This locally owned seafood restaurant has a lot of options and a unique menu for the area. It's welcoming, yet nice and unpretentious. The outdoor portion was recently remodeled and looks awesome! There is plenty of parking surrounding the restaurant and adjacent, as it is nestled into the front end of a shopping area. We had a most enjoyable meal and experience at Madfish Grill. Service and food quality were top notch, not to mention we had a specialty from New England you cannot find most places, fried clam strips. I am picky with fried food and do not get it often and the clam strips we dined on as an appetizer had a light batter and were a real treat. It was a Tuesday and we opted for something off their Taco Tuesday special menu--fresh-made chips and guacamole to start were excellent. I really enjoyed my bowl I got as a meal, the ingredients were fresh and the combination of flavors were on point. My dining partner ordered a fish sandwich that was generously portioned and made out of a fish you traditionally only find in New England. Our server, her name sadly escapes me, was really excellent and on top of our orders, refilling water and drinks, and our requests. She has been there for fifteen years she relayed to us when I asked, which is a testament to what type of place this is. If you're looking for solid seafood in a nice atmosphere check out Madfish Grill. They have lots of specials and features to check out that can give you new options for every visit. We came for dinner and left incredibly frustrated by both the food and the way the situation was handled. We ordered the Mad Thai pasta with blackened chicken. We asked if the fried egg that comes with the dish was sunny-side up and were told no, it would be fully cooked and the kitchen would not accommodate a sunny-side-up egg. That seemed unusually inflexible, but we said fine and ordered it as is. When the food arrived, the chicken was clearly not blackened. It was pale, with virtually no visible seasoning. Our waiter actually tried to tell us that the blackening had "fallen off in the sauce." We've had blackened chicken many times, and this simply wasn't blackened. To make matters worse, the egg that was supposed to come with the dish was missing entirely. We asked for the manager, who looked at the chicken and agreed that the blackening had washed off agreed that it did not appear to be blackened. He took it back, and the kitchen eventually sent out properly blackened chicken. Fair enough. But then the manager returned and tried to insist that the kitchen said the original chicken had been blackened and the seasoning had somehow come off in the sauce, even though he had just agreed with us that there was no seasoning on it. I've order this exact dish before, this chicken was not blackened and it could not have been more obvious. We then asked about the missing egg. After another trip to the kitchen, the manager told us we weren't getting one because the kitchen had already scrambled it. We had never asked for a scrambled egg and the menu called for a fried egg, so that made no sense. Apparently, because they had already cooked the egg incorrectly, the kitchen refused to cook another one. I've never met a more weak manager, totally terrified of the kichen. At that point my husband had had enough and sent his meal back. What surprised us most was the manager's reaction. He didn't apologize, offer another dish, or ask if my husband wanted anything else. He simply said okay and walked away. A customer came in for dinner, ended up with no dinner at all, and the manager seemed completely unconcerned about it, and was happy to lose a customer rather than cook an egg. My tacos weren't much better. They arrived cold, and the pork was extremely dry. Thankfully I had ordered a side of guacamole, because otherwise the pork would have been almost impossible to eat. Even with that, I eventually gave up. Mistakes happen in restaurants, and we understand that. What made this experience so disappointing was the kitchen's complete inflexibility and the manager's unwillingness to resolve what should have been several very simple problems. Unfortunately, instead of enjoying dinner, one of us barely ate and the other ended up with no meal at all. Will they see us again? Highly unlikely. read more

The selling point for Madfish Grill is definitely the atmosphere. It is a nice place for people to get together and enjoy seafood. The service is great. They have a good variety of drinks as well. Calling for a reservation is a good idea because Madfish is popular with locals and snowbirds. The food at Madfish Grill is nice. They use fresh ingredients and they bring complimentary bread that is tasty. My favorite dish to order here is the honey-glazed salmon. However, I don't feel like the food justifies the price. Madfish is more expensive than most restaurants in Sarasota, but the food is not necessarily of a higher quality than what you may buy at a cheaper seafood restaurant in town. read more

Just want to give a shout out for this restaurant off I 75 at Bee Ridge on Cattlemen going south about a 1/2 mile down on the left. Mostly a fish place but they have other stuff. I love the fish tacos with the black bean/rice with sour cream. It's under $20 which in this economy is great and it's good. Good service and a low key place. You need to check it out. read more

This was definitely a pleasant find in our travels. Polite staff, very attentive. Love the food choices. Many things on the menu that I really wish to try. We ended up each getting a cup of soup the lobster bisque quite thick very tasty, the corn crab chowder again delicious. We then shared the coconut grouper fingers. They were cooked to perfection and really good. We also split a Caesar salad, which was very good. They do a very reasonable cork fee, which allowed us to bring our own wine. We're in Sarasota again and this time we're staying in a Home To suites right off of the Ridge tonight. It was getting late and we felt like we hadn't had enough to eat today so we looked for a place for dinner and I found this place six minutes away I like the name but I like the food even better. My wife and I shared the house salad with mango dressing and some kind of crunchy wasn't quite croutons. I don't know what it was. They were strips very good and then we shared bourbon, salmon with spinach that had garlic mixed in and also broccoli. The waitress was a sweet girl and the proprietor when I called to see if the seating was also very nice so I can't say anything bad about this place it's an easy five star. read more

SLAPPED IN THE FACE, That's how I felt when we left Madfish on Saturday afternoon. I have been there before, with my sister, my friends, and other family members. We've celebrated birthdays and other special occasions there. Saturday the 11th, my sister and I went in for a late lunch after shopping. I ask for the rest of my meal to go. When we got in the car, I realized I had forgotten it. I did not expect the way I was treated. The female manager told me I never ask for it to go, and I had two choices. One, dig through the trash or wait however ever long until they could make another one. (Which she said twice) Dig through the trash??? No, I'm sorry about the inconvenience, what can we do to make this right. She was literally yelling at me so loudly, the people behind me could hear her. We will never be back, not my family, not my friends and not two couples who heard he and left, gave me their name and phone numbers, they couldn't believe it either. My receipt for 103.09(without the tip) shows we cashed out at 3;52PM. I didn't get the female managers name, but I have never been so embarrassed and truly felt like she slapped me in the face. If she is that angry about someone saying they didn't have the food, they ordered and paid for, and ask to take it home, and basically calling me a liar, I can dig through the trash. I have never been talked to or treated like this in a restaurant and never will be again. The good: The service was excellent! The hostess and person who took our order was so quick and efficient at seating us and tending to our needs and questions. I tried the fish and chips as well as a variety of tacos (we came on a Tuesday so we were in the mood for them). Fish and chips come in two varieties: cod and haddock. I had haddock based on the server's personal preference and it was yummy and freshly fried. I was able to replace the fries with asparagus which was cooked and seasoned nicely. The tartar sauce was the perfect accompaniment to the fish. The restaurant was spacious and had indoor and outdoor seating options. There were plenty of spots available when we came. It was clean as well. The tacos were tasty and well seasoned. They take reservations online, have a happy hour and have Mother's Day specials. They offer gift cards too. our Wednesday night date night this past week took us to Mad Fish Grill, where we had two of their special Wednesday night dinners. I had chicken piccata, and my wife had chicken marsala. Both servings were generous and excellent to taste, and the grilled chicken was tender, and together with the sauce was delicious. Our waiter was Kevin and he was exceptional, attentive efficient, and very pleasant. The ambience is a little noisy because of the Wednesday night specials so most every seat was being occupied many cashing in on the pasta specials. My opinion of MadFish varies from time to time. There are things I Love about MadFish and things I'm slightly disappointed about. Their Taco Tuesday specials are very good. The tacos, the margaritas, the apps are very good and quite reasonable. Most of the seafood I've had has been very good. I've never had anything bad but a few things have been just average. I'd have a lot more to say if I'd actually got some food and some service. 2:50PM Thursday. Went in to get lunch. Sat at a high top in the bar next to a table with two women finishing lunch. No other customers. The server was busy chatting with them. She did not look at me, say hello or anything, and carried on chatting. She then walked right past to me get something from the kitchen and then walked past me again without any eye contact. Carried on chatting with her friends. She was 2 feet away from me. I waited...am I invisible? Yup, must be. Next thing her friend called someone on her cell and then handed the server the phone where she proceeded to talk loudly about her upcoming bridal shower plans. She paid zero attention to me or a guy who came in and sat at the bar while this was going on. Oh, he did get a hello and knew her name, but that was all he got she did not go over to serve him either....Seemed like there was nobody else around actually 'working'. Meanwhile I had no menu no water no nothing, perhaps because I was invisible. So after 6 or 8 minutes of this treatment I ran out of patience. I got up to leave and as I stepped past her (still yapping to her friends) I said very loudly, 'well I guess I'll get lunch somewhere else then!!' Jeez!' That's the first time the server had looked at me the whole visit. Not a word tho, just a 'shocked' look. She deliberately ignored me so that she could chat with her pals and wondered why I walked out? So rude. I was in the biz for many years and management would not have put up with this nonsense for one minute. I had a similar encounter here a few months ago when I was very ungraciously refused service because it was slow and they wanted to close early. It was 7:15. Chain restaurants are usually pretty strict about keeping to their business hours so as not to piss off the customers who go there to spend money during their posted hours. We do not see how their business will NOT suffer from the poor service and management. The ethics and standards that we witness are not desirable. I read an article today about deceptive tipping practices have become more common. reminded me of a time I went to Mad Fish Grill. They added a tip of 20% automatically, and I did not know that and left another tip. Beware of their practices and they may be acknowledging it now. Also have had unfortunately, a short, older woman bartender continued to be very rude, every time we have gone in to have a relaxing dinner. The services provided by Joe was worse than discovering hair in the appetizer's sauce and a long strand of hair under the plate. When we mentioned it, he said "okay". There was no sorry that happened or I'll let the kitchen staff or mgr know. We asked for new silverware and his body language suggested it bothered him. After watching his nonverbal behavior, I decided against eating anything else. We asked for the check and he brought it right away but disappeared with my card for over 9-10 minutes. I then walked near the registers to film out of fear that he was doing more than processing the bill with it. Thankfully, 1-2 servers found him in back with the card already run. They asked how was everything and I informed them that there was hair in the appetizer and he never apologized. As we prepared to leave, he "thanked us for coming" and said "take care". Perhaps it's why his karma resulted in him spilling a beverage on other guests at a table. If we were dine again, there's no way I'd allow him to serve me. To be fair, I think he prefers certain customers over others. I wasn't his type. Another example is, we didn't receive appetizer plates. I asked for them after we dropped off the app, and he brought one "1" when there were two of us. However, he brought 3 to a table of 3, without being asked and before their apps arrived. My wife and I were staying on Anna Maria Island and a hurricane came through, so we were evacuated. We went to Sarasota off of I-75 for a few days. Madfish was a one mile walk and we decided to chance it. Bad idea. We got poured on during the walk back. What are you going to do? It's life. Our server was super nice and I ordered the grouper sandwich and a cubano to take home for dinner. The grouper was super flakey and nice and they had a nice selection on local IPAs. Score. They even brought my wife a pitcher of Diet Coke for refills and gave her a refill as a take-away. I would definitely come back here again. I met up to two friends for a girls' lunch. Our server was Kevin~he was so nice and attentive! One of my friends had never been in before and plans on going back soon! We all did the Pick 2 lunch special. Two of us had the chicken taco (I chose mine grilled), another had chicken salad. We all three did three different salads. We all agreed they were great.
