The portion size was inconsistent - the shakshuka was delicious, but only one egg and not much meat in it. We split but could have easily had the entire thing. A very light but flavorful tomato base, plus beans and meat. Served with a few pieces of pita and a crema that makes the dish. Saw a sandwich and the classic breakfast at another table, which were big portions. So it's a bit of a toss up. The blackberry + goat cheese pancake was good, studded with berries but just a small portion of goat cheese on top that was hidden under the butter. Not sure I'd order again but wouldn't tell someone not to. The fresh juice was tasty, only get the beet one if you like beets and ginger as those were the dominate flavors. A little late posting this, but we went to Madi for brunch not too long ago and really enjoyed it. We had to wait for a table since it's a popular spot, but once we were seated the service was great. They have a nice patio outside so if it's not too hot it's a great place to sit. I really liked the Bloody Mary. The Patty Melt was solid, and while the fries were just okay, the overall meal hit the spot. Also, the G.O.A.T. Points are definitely worth checking out. Oh my good lord the white bean shakshuka is one of the best things I've ever eaten. The carnitas on top!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I was local to San Diego so I could try more things on this menu. The service was nice, we had 2 servers and both were friendly! The decor is warm and inviting especially on a rainy day like this one. The food was subpar. My wife said the only thing hot was her eggs, the chicken fried steak was frozen definitely not homemade. The chilaquiles were decent, the chorizo was nice, the creme was flavorful but the discombobulated ingredients made it not a cohesive dish, also lacking warmth the dish was cold. Also, $70 for items not even homemade is definitely steep in my opinion. I would expect to pay that for fresh items not something warmed from a freezer. read more

We had a reservation for this place at 8:30am on a Sunday. It was already pretty full at this time. We were quickly seated to our table and met with our server Grant. HE WAS EXCEPTIONAL. I ordered a vanilla bean latte and the blueberry lemon pancakes to eat and our table ordered the waffle churro sticks. I didn't expect to enjoy the jalapeno blackberry jam that came with the waffle churro but it was phenomenal with the maple cream cheese. We decided to have breakfast at Madi before heading back home to Orange County, and it was absolutely worth the stop. Madi offers a diverse all day brunch menu in a setting that's casual, fun, and stylish. Parking can be tricky so you may need to circle a few times but I promise, it's worth the hassle! When we arrived, there was already a crowd of people waiting outside, clearly on the waitlist. The host told us it would be a 45-minute wait but tipped us off that the bar is first come, first served (only 4 seats total). Since the restaurant is always packed, I recommend making a reservation in advance. We were determined and noticed a couple paying their tab at the bar, so we hovered nearby and scored seats in just 15 minutes! Our server, Octavio, was excellent. Friendly, attentive, he never neglected us despite being super busy. On the bar was a display case with cranberry-orange muffins that looked too good to pass up, so we ordered one to split. It was delicious and a perfect starter. For my main dish, I ordered the White Bean Shakshuka and modified it with soy chorizo. It was hearty, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying, I just wish there was more pita on the side to scoop up all that goodness. My boyfriend ordered their famous Blackberry + Goat Cheese Pancakes. At first, he thought they were odd, expecting the toppings to just be on top. But to his surprise, the blackberries and goat cheese were baked right into the batter. Such a sophisticated twist. I'm not even a pancake fan, but OMG, these were outstanding! Overall, Madi gives classic brunch dishes a creative and elevated spin while keeping the vibe approachable and fun. If you're in the area (or even if you're not), it's worth the extra drive to experience this gem in San Diego's Normal Heights. P.S. I wouldn't say its my favorite brunch spot, but it wasn't bad either. - PARKING - Only street parking around here, so allot extra time to park and walk! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - It gets pretty busy during peak breakfast/brunch hours, so take that into account, especially if you have larger parties! Once we arrived, the hostess took our name down and you get a text confirmation you're on the waitlist. It took our party of 4 about 40 minutes until we were seated on a holiday Monday near 11:30am. The decorations are very cute and colorful inside! It does feel a little cramped everywhere you go inside the restaurant, even outside on the patio where we ended up sitting. We had to move the table out to give ourselves more room to even sit down. Our server was sometimes attentive, and sometimes nowhere to be seen. He and other waiters did come refill our waters several times, but when it was time to get the bill, we were left sitting there for 10-15 minutes. - FOOD - Waffle Churro Sticks ($16): We got this to share for the table, and these were really good! Probably my favorite thing out of the meal. The sticks were nice and crispy on the outside, but fluffy on the inside. The Jalapeno Blackberry sauce was very unique! Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs ($19.50): Pretty hefty portion, but the flavors in the gravy and the steak itself was just OK. The potatoes were crispy on the edges, but too dry on the inside. Coconut Pandan Latte ($7.00): I love Pandan anything, so I was very excited to see this on the menu. Unfortunately it fell short, as all I tasted was coconut milk and coffee. I also tasted my friend's Apple Jack Matcha, and it just tasted like they sprinkled in cinnamon into a Matcha. - OVERALL - Maybe I ordered the wrong things (besides the Waffle Churro Sticks), but I wasn't really blown away from the meal like others have said.
