Hands down the best Caesar salad I have ever had. I don't know what kind of sorcery is happening in that dressing, but it had to be made from scratch because it was absolutely divine. I don't think I'll ever look at another Caesar salad the same way again. We sat outside, and there was plenty of outdoor seating while still getting some of the cool AC drifting out from the restaurant, which was deeply appreciated on a hot New York day. From the time we were seated till we left, it was a great experience. I was concerned with getting a table, however, we were there before 5pm and didn't need a reservation. The space is really nice amd intimate with the ability to accommodate a group with a reservation. Even though it's right on the corner you had no street noise. Our waiter Papa Samba was great and attentive. Their mocktail and old fashion were amazing. Shrimp cocktail was an over the top presentation and tasted good with a new twist . Our entrees again were great: roasted chicken that melted in your mouth and mushroom risotto that was very good also. The added show stopper was the banana split. Never got the concept, however, theirs made me a believer. It was great and tasted like two desserts in one (creme brulee and banana split). If all banana splits were like this, I'd be a fan. Visited for our annual family Thanksgiving trip to NYC and picked this restaurant for lunch based on positive reviews. The atmosphere was quiet and comfortable, and service was excellent. We tried the special Thanksgiving menu, which was thoughtfully curated, but one could order from the regular menu. Appetizers included a creamy squash soup, fresh baby beet salads, and another crisp salad--each one a hit. Everyone in our group went for the turkey entrée, which turned out to be one of the best Thanksgiving restaurant meals we've had. We also shared the lobster macaroni, which was a standout. Dessert featured generous portions of pecan and pumpkin pie topped with vanilla ice cream. The entrée paired nicely with a well-priced Oregon pinot. We came here after work to grab dinner and drinks - we were able to get seated right away without reservations around 7 on a Wed. It was pretty crowded inside the restaurant. Staff was very attentive and friendly! We shared the meatballs and calamari - this was average. All of us got burgers as well - the burger was kind of the drier side (I got a side of mayo to help out with that). Burger was about average as well. Maybe the other entrees were better? Food came out quickly. It is located very close to Grand Central and had a mature ambiance. Prices are on a higher end as it's a nice sit down restaurant. read more

Nothing is as it seems... I came here from the soccer game parched and famished. Per usual, I came in and sat at the bar. I was immediately given menus but then had to wait (longer than what would be deemed appropriate) for some water. The bartender was super slow and def. took his time giving me service. Being annoyed, hungry and thirsty is not the best way to start. I got the fizz royale to start while still waiting on some water. It wasn't until I finally got his attention and asked for some that he realized he probably should have given me some. I got the steak frites and asked to swap them out for the seasoned fries well done and a side of crispy Brussel sprouts. The drink came out first and was refreshing. It made up for the less than stellar start. After an unusually long wait (it was late and there weren't that many people there) I got my food. Here's where it went downhill. While the fries were well cooked, they weren't seasoned. I mean bare as bones. I asked if these were seasoned and he said yes and I said, "yeah, they're not." He offered to take them back but I said forget it. If was going to be done right, it would have been done the first time, not after the fact. The "frites" were non-existent. In fact, they gave me a huge strip of I don't even know what to call it but the fattiest meat they could find. After cutting through all the fat, I had about 7 good pieces tops. It def. Didn't look like the other pics I had seen and they overcooked it. The worst of the worst was the brussell sprouts, which disappointed me greatly. While they were cooked perfectly, there was no balsamic!!! For the record, the menu doesn't say it comes with it, but I have yet to have crispy sprouts that aren't accompanied with some type of sauce. I quickly asked for the check. He comped my drink (although it was a nice gesture, I didn't ask and just wanted to leave) at that point. This place tries too hard and reminds me of a restaurant with champagne taste on a beer budget. Very cool New York spot at 41st and Madison. Nice because some of the other spots in this area are not open on Sunday nights. They open area lots of room, some seats on the street I believe. George our waiter was terrific. He was there when we needed him. I guess the reason for the four was the price of the food even though it's New York. I thought it was a little over-the-top. My old fashioned had about a half an ounce of bourbon in it so not a great start. Not a place to go if you're anywhere near a budget. Crabcakes were not cakes. They were one crab cake. Tasty but small. Calamari good not great. Meatballs were delicious. I think it's the best thing I had all night. My friends ribeye was ordered. Madison and Vine is an attractive cafe located very close to Grand Central. There is a bar area and outside dining. Staff were pleasant enough although it was an effort to get noticed. I did not have to wait very long for the food to arrive. I ordered the chicken au jus which is popular here in NYC. The food was average. The chicken did not appear to have just come out of the oven and the fingerling potatoes were ok, not delicate. I stayed a week at The Library Hotel and had breakfast every morning at Madison & Vine. The French Toast was superb--not too heavy, no whipped cream & had lots of fresh berries with it. I also loved the scrambled eggs, pancakes, omelet, bacon, orange juice and coffee. Loved everything I ordered--the service was really personal and top-notch every day as well. I've come to this place a few times now because it's close to my physical therapy place. Usually I have about an hour to kill before my appointment and this place fits the bill for a nice meal in a short amount of time. I haven't needed a reservation yet I usually show up around 6 pm, the place is relatively empty. The service has been great so far. I've gotten the French onion soup which has been filling, the sirloin minus the peppercorn sauce on the side, and the Brussels sprouts, which are sautéed nice and crispy just like I like them. The steak is a good size for dinner. I usually substitute the fries for mixed veggies or salad, sometimes asparagus. Nice, quiet ambiance. Prices are a little expensive but the food has been good. They have a good wine list as well as some interesting drink concoctions. A definite must visit if you're in the area. read more

I had high hopes for this place, as I pass by it all the time and the enclosed outdoor seating seems great for people watching, which it was and probably the best part of my experience. I arrived around 445pm so the place was pretty empty. I was seated right away but then it took quite a long time for my waiter or anyone for that matter to greet me. It took so long I went looking for someone and that's when they finally came to my table. I ordered the steak & frites (parm truffle ones) and when the waiter brought my steak knife, which he looked at as he presented it to me, and placed it on the table you can clearly see it's dirty with food stuck on it. Of course he left so quickly I had to wait for a different person to come by to address the issue. When I got my meal I had to return the fries as they didn't make them parm truffle like I requested. It was not a great experience from beginning to end. I don't like leaving bad reviews but there were too many mistakes that shouldn't have happened at a restaurant that was pretty much empty at the time. The seating was well distanced so I did not feel uncomfortable. The staff was attentive and safely attired with masks and gloves. The food was okay. MCasual and entree dining options. There was a decent wine list with several options for by the glass ordering. I loved the fries. They added herbs to give extra flavor. The turkey sandwich was okay. I liked that it was fresh roasted turkey, no deli meat and was served with pickled veggies. This would be a good place for casual lunch.
