I used to come here often when I was working at a firm down the street - that was almost 15 years ago. I don't recall the food being as good as it is now, so I was pleasantly surprised with how much better everything tasted. We went for a business dinner of 9 people. The only thing I'd say sucked was how loud it was. We couldn't hear each other at all. We were seated all the way in the back, so I'm not sure that made a big difference but the echos were unreal. Service was okay. Everyone raved about their dish. I'm trying to not eat too much carbs so I got the chicken - it was pretty good. Not dry and seasoned well. It was OK. A 3.75 A nice place inside, nicely decorated for the holidays and a wide and varied menu. The ricotta and spinach ravioli was wonderful, the sage sauce tasty and delicate. A winner. The veal, pounded so thin the meat was dry and edges crispy. The mushroom sauce had basically one mushroom and the spinach side was a huge mound in the middle. The seafood risotto was good, but the water said it was spicy, and it was not (to the disappointment of one the guests). Bruschetta was too salty and bread toasted was burnt (not charred) but we added some oil and pepper and ate with the foccacia bread ( which was delicious as were the breadsticks!) and enjoyed this very much. We enjoyed the creme brulee. Simple, nice. Coffee was good and espresso was a full shot. We were curious why, in an empty restaurant we were seated by the kitchen door and waiters ordering terminal, many nice tables were available, and still so when we left. Service was efficient, but we always look for a connection or conversation to to enjoy what the restaurant has to offer. That did not happen. Attended a work dinner here my last night of a 4 night work trip to Grand Central. They had plenty of gluten free options and amazing specials. I settled for a wonderful special of branzino that had a wonderful crispy finish but also shared some of my colleagues fish dish also. Now dessert is where my stars are from as being gluten free this has been a point of discontent for me especially in NYC. I was served gluten free bagels each morning and they were disgusting, they were gritty and dry think sandpaper. I then welt to Baked by Melissa's another staple and ordered a dozen gluten free cupcakes and had to throw them out as they too were overly dry and the almond flour had not been grinded and broken down enough. Buttttt the flourless chocolate molten cake here was to die for. it was moist, succulent, gooey and oh so sweet. I licked my spoon clean. Way to go!!! read more

Interesting restaurant that could be so much more. We were seating promptly, water came by and basket of bread. The bread was not warm nor fresh. A small plate of olives was buried in the basket. I ordered lentil soup for an appetizer, again it was prompt Tasted good but nothing special. And then the wait came. We waited well over 15 minutes in a non crowded restaurant for pasta and a pizza. Our waiter disappeared. Finally we got our entrees. The pasta was good but not great. Now the pizza was burned on the bottom and the taste at best was bland. Pretty boring. We had the best dinner here tonight. I had the cod special, my husband the cut beef ragu pasta special and our friend had the lasagna. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. We hadn't seen our friend for a couple years and it was so nice to be in a restaurant where we could actually converse easily. Quiet and large restaurant and lots of seating for the restaurant but nothing to rave about. Food was average. Small portions, Cold olives and hard bread sticks, they can keep them. They used to do a brunch menu on the weekends and have meals for 15-20$ with a drink they do not offer that anymore. They only have lunch and dinner on weekend. Most of their pasta are high 20s-Low 40$ and nothing extraordinary. Even their pizzas for small personal pies are 25$+ They did tell us they were going to tell us the specials and no one ever came back, I finally flagged down the waiter to just take our order. I ordered a coffee, and they double charged me on my bill. I questioned it and they told me because they filled my coffee cup up for a 2nd time. I was the only one who drank coffee at the table. At $4.50 a cup of 6oz I think that allows a 2nd cup but apparently I had to pay for 2 cups. It's ok cause I just deducted that from their tip. They have a lot of staff standing around doing nothing. This use to be a great place. It convenient and right on 42nd street near grand central but away from the hustle bustle. But between the high prices pasta that's not worth it and yes the $4.50 double charge for a coffee. I suggest going somewhere else. This place use to be great but not with the stop. It's a good spot because near hotels so I'm sure tourist stop and take a look but if you go up into 40s or up 2nd avenue so many better, friendlier and quality of food is better. read more

i've been to this restaurant a few times for dinner and every time I come the meal is always delicious, the service fast and the vibes are great. This restaurant is centrally located to Grand Central terminal and the UN if you're looking for a place to stop in for lunch or dinner. it has a large back seating and fun bar seating as well and even during the summer they have nice outdoor area. Staple coming here is the lasagna which comes out on a sizzling hot skillet and is one of the best dishes offered. the steak is extremely tender. They do offer a lot of gluten-free dishes, which is great for those allergies and are very accommodating to any sort of food restriction you may have. read more

My pasta was perfect, full, dense, and very firm but not hard or chewy. Unique texture for a pasta noodle that was thicker than spaghetti, round, not flat. Delicious. This was our first dinner after a long travel day to the city. The vibe is warm and cozy, more casual than I expected but that was great because we were still in jeans and sweaters from traveling. I had the marinated grilled seafood mix that came with salad. The presentation was lovely. My husband had pizza with sausage and broccoli rabe. We shared the octopus to start. I had a negroni and wine, hubby had two drinks as well. Drinks were good and strong enough but small. Food: octopus was perfect, have had with potatoes before but had lots of celery in it too which was really nice! My seafood mix was amazing. They were able to update the seating so we could still fit appropriately. The inside is larger than you would anticipate. The service was great as well. We did not receive the best greeting upon entering the restaurant, it was more like a staring contest before I broke the ice by saying, there are three of us here for dinner. The response I received was, do you have a reservation, and my reply was no do we need one? The answer from the host was sometimes you do, then we were seated by a man that was rude, as he briskly walked us to our table and left. Our waiter was the nicest gentleman and helped us with the menu. We ordered and the food and drinks were fine. The dessert was amazing but I will not be coming here again. I always come here when I'm staying at Westin Grand Central or Times Square. Bread service is included and I ask for garlic and the always accommodate with a smile. For food, I've had carpaccio, pizza and branzino, all good, but IMHO, if there's one thing you have to order, it's the lasagna. It's a spinach Pasta and meat sauce is perfect to cheese ratio. Another Holiday dinner with friends. Osteria has become our "go to" location in NYC. Close to Grand Central Terminal (which some of us use to get here). Well stocked bar (this requires no explanation). Excellent service and good food seals the deal. This time I had the seafood risotto. Flavorful, well prepared and generously portioned. Decided to walk in last-minute on a weekday for dinner and we were seated right away! At first glance, the ambiance and lighting are nice; not too dark that you can't see what's going on, but still has a romantic vibe complete with a nice interior. A variety of complimentary breadsticks were served as starters; I was super excited for them, but disappointed to quickly find that they were almost hard as rocks! I was internally conflicted because they tasted great, but it almost hurt to bite into them. We ordered the lasagna and mushroom risotto; the lasagna tasted good, but was a lot more oily than we'd liked. The mushroom risotto was yummy, but we noticed that the dish wasn't warm and the rice was a bit hard and clearly undercooked; we even googled "how to tell if risotto is cooked" to make sure we weren't mistaken. We flagged down a waiter who mentioned that Italians cook purposely undercook their risotto(?) but he was happy to bring it back and cook it for us a bit further. I had the pleasure of visiting NYC during the wildfire issues. On my last night, the evening was thick with smoke so I decided to walk across the street from my hotel to Osteria. Yelp reviews and more importantly the barkeep at my hotel said it was really good and they make their pasta in-house. I was able to secure a seat at the bar and even though the bartender was very busy he provided stellar service. Their wine by the glass and for that matter the entire menu is very reasonably priced even for NYC. I ordered their grilled calamari salad as an appetizer. The calamari was served whole and grilled to perfection. Those who know know that overcooking squid by even an extra minute equals rubber. My fruit of the sea pasta was bountiful with plenty of fish and shellfish including more squid (oh yea). The paccheri pasta was lite as a feather and I was able to finish the entire entree' and use their bread to sop up the remaining sauce. I always make this dish with linguine so I was skeptical of using a tube pasta like paccheri, but it works. A combination of being made fresh and being much wider than linguine allowed the sauce to better adhere and absorb the seafood and sauce flavors. If you are in the area this is a great Italian food option. read more
