My husband and I were headed into NYC for an event when we unexpectedly got stuck in deadlock traffic. Rather than continue the stressful drive, we decided to take the next exit and find a nearby restaurant and La Noma Italian Steakhouse stood out as an upscale restaurant option. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance makes an impression. The space is upscale, chic, modern, and sophisticated, with warm neutral tones of crème and brown throughout. The ceilings, artwork, and architectural details all give the restaurant an elegant feel. We started with the seared octopus, which came in second to the grilled octopus from our favorite Mediterranean restaurant (we are particular about grilled octopus, so this is a compliment). We also split the Bone Marrow Bolognese. I personally enjoyed it, though my husband wasn't quite as impressed. For dessert, we ordered the Cremosa, made with passion fruit purée and white chocolate cremosa, and we both loved it. The wine and champagne selection was top notch. As a certified sommelier, I especially appreciated the curated options and variety available. Overall, I gave La Noma 4 stars because while I enjoyed the meal, my husband didn't love the pasta dish as much as I did. That said, we both agreed this is absolutely a must-visit spot before or after a movie at the nearby iPic Theater. To begin with, we had a reservation for 9:30PM, last call at 9:45PM and the restaurant closes at 11 PM. To be considerate of the staff and timing, we looked over the menu on the way there so we would be ready to order immediately upon being seated. However, after being seated and brought water, it took nearly 20 minutes before a server even came to our table to provide the complimentary bread and take our order. It's also important to note that this was one of the last reservation slots of the night, and there were only about 4-5 occupied tables in the restaurant. Two of those tables seemed to just be there for drinks, yet every other table was being attended to and served regularly while our table was overlooked. We were the youngest of all the tables and dressed accordingly and they seemed to pay more attention to the table of men in button ups and suits. According to other reviews, seems like this isn't the first time they pick and choose who they want to provide good service for. We ordered a good amount of food which are shown in the pics below to be shared with 2 of my close friends and myself. Props to the bartender, the Espresso Martini from here has to be one of the best we've tried!! We ordered the steak Medium Rare, and received it back perfectly cooked. It was seasoned well but wish it came with a more generous serving of the veggies, The Oysters tasted very fresh and sweet which we also loved! Pastas were very flavorful but definitely way over priced for a serving enough for just one person unless you're planning to share everything family style. Ambiance of place is very nice and aesthetic and was pleased with the food, the only reason why this place is getting a 3/5 star is because of the service we had received. Note: They also add auto gratuity of 20%... which is another reason. For that I expect better service than what we received... it felt like there was little incentive to provide quality service when the tip was already guaranteed regardless of the overall experience. Have dined here twice in the past few months, which says a lot. Atmosphere is very modern with Miami vibes. Service is very top shelf, as you would expect at a high end restaurant. Food is solid and I'd say lines up with the price point which is high, but not out of reach. Pictures here is the Wood Fired Chicken, which my wife raved about. I had short ribs with mash potatoes which were delicious. I've also had the Spicy Rigaroni Alla Vodka which was amazing with just the right amount of kick. Side note, the location in the heart of Fort Lee is home to a variety restaurants and cafes and a parking garage is validated when you dine here, so very convenient. My time at La Noma was unforgettable. The aesthetic of this place screams luxury from the second we walked in. Everything is very intentional here from the staff to the decor and the set up of the tables. Super clean and bright. The color scheme is beautiful and I highly recommend this place for special occasion's. Unfortunately my date and I did not get photos of our food but I did get a photo of our dessert which I thank god I did cause it was beautifully plated. We had Prosecco, Brussels sprouts, mac and cheese as well as their steak. Everything cooked to perfection no complaints. Our waiter was an angel. Super helpful and friendly the entire time. French 75/Diavola Pizza/ Bone Marrow Bolognese & Tonarelli Neri Con L'Astice (not on current menu but Lobster, Shrimp over Squid Ink Pasta). The drink was a bit too sweet. It's a tough drink; Took me a few tries at home, to get it right. Fresh Bread, that you didn't have to pay for, was a good way to start. The pizza was fantastic, and in the Napoletana style. **Don't pass them by**. Fluffy but light, and cooked in a huge pizza oven built right into the wall by a man they brought over from Napoli. Both pastas were excellent. Fresh pasta, made in house, cooked a little more than al dente...so pretty much perfect. We had some time, and a little room, so we finished with an Espresso and this Pistachio Gelato dessert with a hard coating & creamy center. I was thoroughly impressed with La Noma. I had some mixed reviews on this place having mediocre food... so I did decide to go here because I always wanted to try the vibe when I wasn't very hungry. They have pretty expensive price points and given that my sister and I just wanted a refreshing bite... the salad was most ideal as the rest of the menu is pretty heavy. It wasn't your typical wedge salad - and we asked them to cut it in half and chop it since we were sharing one. The portion was great, the bacon and the dressing were yummy and the lettuce was the perfect amount of crisp. I was a little disappointed because I feel like it lacked flavor and depth. It was on the more bland side of a wedge salad, but the fresh herbs really help. Today we went for an early dinner at LaNoma, and the entire experience was memorable. The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning. We were taking a short break from my sister's wake and arrived just before five. At first we were told there would be a wait, but when we explained our situation, the staff immediately and graciously seated us. We started with the house Chardonnay, which was superb. For appetizers, we ordered the Pulpo--beautifully charred, served with spicy sweet potato and a fresh salad--and the Burrata, paired perfectly with thinly sliced prosciutto and a lovely balsamic glaze. For our entrées, I had the Margherita pizza, which was excellent. My girls ordered the filet mignon, cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. One of our friends chose the Chilean sea bass, and it was honestly the best I've had in a long time--perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The service was truly exceptional. Let's talk about La Noma: Walking in the aesthetics are great. The restaurant is built so beautifully. The dim lights make it really intimate! Please don't park on the street. My boyfriend ended up having to move the car because although there's street parking they're really strict when it comes to tickets. There's a parking garage, but it's about a block down. As my boyfriend was moving the car, I stood waiting for him to come back and then take a look at the menu. We definitely felt a little bit, rushed with the waitor, as he kept asking us if we were ready, but just needed some time. There's definitely a lot of things to choose from! The drinks: AMAZING. They are definitely REALLY strong. But they did taste amazing. I ended up having the chicken Parm. It definitely was a good meal, but not worth the price. This is definitely inexpensive and classy Italian steakhouse, and I would suggest branching out and trying out other meals! It looks like the table next to me also had the same concerns. The chicken Parm kind of looked like a pizza. We also had the fettuccine Al tartufo and it was DELICIOUS. When ended the night by taking some pictures at the display they had by the bathroom. Overall, this is a perfect place for special occasions, anniversaries, birthdays group parties, as they do have a separate area for large groups. His usual an Aperol, and I got Orange is the new black. OITNB was perfect not too sweet not too tart and tasted like a creamsicle. We ended with the Raspberry Tart and Chocolate Tart. The service (our server was Ehab) was impeccable and the menu had great items. The polpo, tartare, and Caesar salad were all great to share. I especially liked the octopus and would recommend that. The salad was good but I thought the potion was pretty small for how much you're paying. The pasta was also delicious but again, VERY small portion. Came here for my birthday at lunch so it was empty aside from another table. The whole ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, clean, and does have that "fine dining" feel to it. The waiters were very attentive and helpful making sure we made great choices. The food is what really amazed me, everything tasted good for the price! The steak was amazing Pasta was alright, nothing extremely spectacular Arancini was good but tasted very hmm "greasy" in a way The octopus was mind blowing to me and it was great. I had high hopes for this place but it fell quite short. When we came here with a full appetite, on a Friday night with 5:45 reservations, we were excited to start the night with a rendezvous of different food options, appetizers, entrees, drinks, and dessert. We started with a round of 5 martinis, 3 different appetizers that included Caesar salad, Burrata, and pizza. It was then then everything went completely downhill. Upon placing our appetizers, our server asks us if we're ready to place our entrees. We politely declined and said we need a few minutes since we'd like to enjoy our appetizers first. He then obnoxiously states that it's best if we hurry up and add in our entrees since it's "Friday night" and they will get busy so we need to expedite this order. We were dumbfounded by his rudeness and it was then that we decided to close out. I don't need to be disrespected and feel rushed to hurry up and get dinner just because it's a certain day of the week, and mind you it was 5:45 PM. and the place was 65% empty. To top it off, the pizza was absolutely disgusting, very watery, bland, and so thin that it was falling apart (see pic). The Caesar salad was tasteless and the lettuce was ridiculously large and not even cut up. I almost asked for a steak knife to cut up the lettuce.(also see pic). I would like to add that the food runners (shout out to Johnathan, he was actually amazing) and the hostess were absolutely lovely! In fact, we had to ask for the bill several times, that our server never brought, and we had to resort to asking Jonathan for the bill. It's a shame because the place is absolutely beautiful and if they have the right kind of service, I think it would really be successful. Also good to know that my sister has been here multiple times before, but she has sat at the bar and said the bar service was far better than the actual dining service so maybe the bartenders have better customer service who knows. Hopefully they can take this with a grain of salt and improve their customer service on the dining side so that their customers can enjoy a better experience. read more
