Service was quick and super friendly/chill. Our server helped us figure out the best drinks and food options. The food was delicious and hearty.

The beer was delicious, the bartender friendly. The cornbeef "rolls" were good so was the cornbeef and mashed potatoes, the cabbage lacked any flavor it was just boiled. The biggest disappointment was the stew, which was just mashed potatoes, one piece of carrot and one piece of stew beef that was less than an inch of cubed beef.

My wife and I visited this established based upon the recommendations of a number of associates. The restaurant has a limited exposure to the main road so if it's your initial visit, you may drive right by it (we did). Upon entering , the facility is well appointed, clean and a classic Irish Pub/Restaurant. We sat at the bar and surprisingly, we were the only people in the place (3:45). Being the only people at the bar, it was surprising to us was that the bartender was quite aloof and unfriendly. After getting us a drink, she would leave the bar area for an extended time and could be heard, not seen, chatting and laughing with the staff while out of our site. When she did return to check on our woeful existence, she did't know the prices or specials or have a handle on the menu. Fortunately, it was the end of her shift and a gentleman took over for this unidentified bartender for the remainder of happy hour. Much to our dismay, the new bartender, who also remained nameless, was polite, but was just as aloof as the first. He also did the same disappearing act, laughing and talking it up in the back room while we waited and waited. When you dine at a bar or restaurant, like the theme song from that iconic television show Cheers, Sometimes you wanna go Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You wanna be where you can see (ah-ah) Our troubles are all the same (ah-ah) You wanna be where everybody knows your name This was not the situation here. No one wanted to know our name or provide a modicum of service. Not good. Now to the meal. For an appetizer we had the Irish Nachos, which are covered with Shepherds Pie. This was an uneven experience as the "nachos" were actually potato chips and there was a paucity of Shepherds Pie in the mix. For our entree I ordered the Black and Blue burger with a side of fries. I was told the blue cheese would be melted on the burger and it wasn't, so I just had to scrape the cheese off my burger. The fries were soggy and tasteless and it looked like they haven't changed their frying oil in weeks. #NotGood I exchanged the fries and got their mashed potatoes, which were good. My wife ordered the Monday special of three tacos. She enjoyed the tacos but was disappointed with the service as it took forever to get our food. Service and feeling like a welcome guest are a huge factor in enjoying a restaurant. Unfortunately, this was not the case with the Madra Rua Irish Pub. So we left, not knowing the bartender's name, a feeling of not belonging and spending a lot of time for zero enjoyment. We expected more and are very disappointed. Nuff said.

Buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese

Husband had raved about the wings while there for a business meeting so we went back to share them and have some drinks. The wings were good but we felt like an inconvenience during our visit. We had heard about happy hour and asked about it but wasn't given any clear details. Carbonation was out so we ordered two seltzers instead of draft beer. Wings came out and we asked for napkins and then finally asked for plates. Wings were decent but won't be back, it was way too uncomfortable.

Reminiscent of Victorian times in many European cities this side street happens to pass by a little cozy pub named O'lacy's. The outside is unassuming with the aqua blue painted brick façade with wood and green (for the Irish!) accents. Open up the doors and one is hit with decades of ground in beer smell, that's a good thing and elevates the authenticity in my book! Inside the worn wooden floor holds up a weathered bar that runs almost the entirety of the pub while the other side has most of the mismatched sofas, love seats and wooden chairs. The aqua walls have various pub staples like neon lights, beer mirrors and pictures. It's a very comfy atmosphere, laid back with notes of a partially underground pub in Ireland. Be warned now, the website said there would be live music and there wasn't and the bartender admitted no one was scheduled. Moreover, I read somewhere they had food and they do not. I'm just letting everyone know they should call first to ensure whatever website info is confirmed. The one time I stopped by, there was one bartender trying to support the regular patrons as well as an impromptu bachelorette party pop-in. She did the best she could but she was really behind, throw in the fact I had drunk ladies cutting in line for their shots irritated me but I digress. The drinks were a little slow as expected but they were priced fairly. I only stayed one round which was at roughly 7:30 and left to find some live music. I'm not sure why but besides one bar in Summerville, the nightlife is dead. That said O'lacys is a cool place to hang out and unwind after a long day. I'm not sure about the late, late night life as I left but when I was there it was ok. The prices are fair and the drinks are standard but don't expect a huge list of creative cocktails. I'm not sure if I'll be back as I have other priorities but don't let that stop you from stopping by, it's a slower vibe which many can appreciate.

My husband and I came here on the first night we moved to SC from out of state. I ordered the smoked wings w/signature dry rub and a side salad. The shrimp had a very strong, fishy smell that was honestly off-putting, and the flavor matched. It almost seemed like the addition of wine was an attempt to mask the issue rather than enhance the dish. The grits were also disappointing--lumpy and lacking the smooth, creamy texture you'd expect. That said, not everything missed the mark. My coworkers ordered the chicken salad, chicken wrap with sweet potato fries , blackened chicken pasta, and bruschetta, and all of those dishes were absolutely delicious and well prepared. They definitely helped redeem the overall experience and show the kitchen is still capable of putting out great food. Adri was our server, and she was an absolute delight--a total gem. She never missed a beat and was completely on top of everything. I also appreciated the convenience of the location. I parked across the street in the garage, which was well lit, safe, and very close. There's plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, which adds to the appeal. I'm hoping this was just an off day, because Montreux has been a favorite in the past. I'd love to see the shrimp and grits return to the quality they were once known for. This time we climbed to the second floor to find a table at what I would describe as the most inviting bar in the South due to the eclectic decor and the appearance of the bar itself with dozens of upside down bottles hanging from the ceiling that at first I thought they were there just to decorate the place but nooo! they actually poured the specialty bourbon we ordered which BTW was very good and was only 90 proof which was a very nice match to my Yingling, we spent about two hours there and not because the service was slow but because we were having a good time, at times was a little loud but my out of town friends truly enjoyed the kind of place, they said that next time they come to town they would like to come back to the very same table. The conversation and good times is what kept me from taking a picture of the dishes I ordered the Cajun Pasta, was absolutely delicious and will order again the next time I go back, wife ordered the Pecan pork chops and said it was made with her cravings in mind I won't be waiting for out of towners to come in order to go back, this has become my most trusted and preferred Southern restaurant in Chucktown/Summerville area, no questions and way better than any distant second best that we have been, make it 8 stars!
