I was getting ready for the Chris Brown concert and decided I needed bandana-themed nails. I've had a hard time lately with salons not being able to replicate designs I show them. But while scrolling through Instagram and searching hashtags, I came across Magazine Nails and was immediately impressed by their work! I DM'd them with photos of the nail design I wanted and asked if anyone could do it. Not only did they reply quickly, but they confirmed they could do the design and booked my appointment right then and there. The entire interaction felt warm, professional, and welcoming, it really gave me a good feeling about choosing them. When I showed up for my appointment, the front desk greeted me kindly and told me exactly where to sit. Tommie was my nail tech, and when he asked me which of the two reference photos I wanted, I was so impressed...it showed he had really paid attention to our DM conversation. That kind of customer service means a lot! The nails turned out so freaking cute, I absolutely loved them! He nailed the design perfectly. What stood out even more was how friendly the entire staff was. Two other women who worked there stopped by just to compliment my nails. You could tell the vibe in this salon is supportive, artistic, and genuinely fun. For this to be my first visit, it was an incredible experience, and I'm definitely coming back. They offer a complimentary drink when you arrive, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. I love the nail polish display and the salon's overall ambiance. I don't usually care for massage chairs, but I actually like theirs. They have a wide variety of nail polishes to choose from as well. I've been going to Celina for at least a year now. Her work is clean, precise, and consistent when she does my manicures. I rarely get designs but I know I can count on Celina to bring any nail design to life, and that's hard to find in a nail tech! She's always friendly and wants to hear an update on how I'm doing and what I've been up to lol. She gives relaxing and thorough massages during pedicures too. I started going here last summer when this place underwent new ownership. Upon arriving the place was new with a contemporary appeal. I requested Robby who is an expert at designs judging from his IG on instagram. I have an obsession with my nails so they have to be done right. I love designs on them when I manage to keep them long. I usually get hard gel over my real nails. I love playing with chrome, cats eye, or multiple designs. Robby manages to create the designs I want & my nails last 4-6 weeks. I am very active so that is worth the money. I still hand wash dishes & bathe my dog & do my own cleaning. I don't have to worry about my nails chipping or breaking. He takes his time & he gives you the full experience! I get my pedicures done here too. My feet look good for a whole month. I encourage you to get the gel pedicure. It's additional in price but so worth it. I believe that all of the nail techs are trustworthy/great here. The rest of their clients are returning clients like myself. This is my favorite nail place in the city and trust me when I say that I've been to almost all of them. Magazine Nails is under new management and I fully enjoyed my experience. The guy at the receptionist's desk was warm and welcoming. I was a little early for my 1:15pm appointment, and he offered me a drink. There were also sandwiches, deviled eggs, and sweet treats available for customers. My classic pedicure was serviced by one of the salon owner's Celina (she's a twin). Celina was sweet and precise with her service. She also offered me a drink as soon as I sat in the chair. It was pretty easy to find a parking spot considering the location, and it was a Saturday. I paid the meter $4 for 2 hours. I was given 20% off of my service, which was a part of the grand opening special. I believe they're offering 20% off of all services for one more week. read more

This used to be my spot but the manicure I got was so bad I'm going to have to redo it myself, the polish is lumpy and thin in spI have an event that I was getting them done for specially and they look worse now than before they were painted, I have so much regret waisting my time. The gal tried but she didn't speak English and frankly just wasn't good, she rushed. You say walk ins welcome. And they are not. I have come a couple of times now and the service has been above and beyond, but I think you should take down on your site on the yelp and on your door that walk-ins are NOT welcome. about a week ago. I came in asking for a Mani Pedi and they told me to essentially go away because they were booked but also they didn't take walk-ins and I was really disappointed (because it says they do take in walk ins). I was willing to stay and wait, but they told me to essentially leave because they only took online appointments. They said if my name wasn't on the books then they couldn't take me. I had to wait less than 5 mins because the shop was so busy, especially after them being closed for 5 days. I enjoyed looking at the immense selection of nail colors. Visited for a relaxing SPA pedicure post morning workout, in this COVID era, MASK UP y'all!!! We called ahead to see if appointments were necessary as this was a spur of the moment event; none needed, so we made haste & got to moving. 2 workers, 3 clients. The older lady said, pick your polish & have a seat in the spa chairs. She ran our water, nice & hot might I add; and we were off to the races. The older lady started & finished my feet. I was a month outside of a pedicure, so her work was lite. The YELLOW polish popped on my tiny toes, my heels were super smooth & the foot massage she gave was nice. With me all done, she moves on to my friend's feet. In walks 2 more potential clients... ratio is now 2 employees to 5 clients... these two ladies quickly retreated with promises to return, I can only imagine the reason for their abrupt departure. Back to 2 employees to 3 clients. My friend had gel polish that needed to be removed, but instead of removing it the "normal way" with foil & some liquid magic, she opted to use the drill to remove it. When questioned about it, she said, the other way takes too long. Our concern was for the nail bed of my friend, the drilling process can be stressful on your nail bed & this would unnecessarily remove healthy nail layers. She continued, we remained quiet. In walks a client that is apparently a frequent flier of the salon. The greeted by the older lady from the rear of the salon, they exchange a few words across the salon floor, and it's back to business on my friend's feet. Now, it's, 2 employees to 4 customers. The younger lady, who was otherwise occupied by the first client, also greets the frequent flier customer. The younger lady was having difficulty with her client, as I overheard the client complaining. The frequent flier is seated, has picked her polish & is waiting. Thennnnnnnn the younger lady comes to the rear of the salon, speaks to the older lady in their native tongue; to which the older lady STOPS working on my friend's feet & the younger woman takes her place, leaving her original client alone & undone. The older woman NOW goes to the frequent flier & begins her manicure. Well I'll be a monkey's uncle or aunt as it is in this case. Thennnnnnnn, the younger woman stops working on my friend's feet & returns to her original client. No explanation, no apology, she JUST WALKED AWAY. (Fast forwarding because no1 wants to hear my thoughts during this uncustomer friendly wait we had to endure). So now, the original client is gone and the younger employee returns to finish my friend's pedicure, lukewarm water and all. With both our pedicures completed, I showed the older lady my Yelp check in badge, to receive my 10% off; to which she had to call someone to gain understanding of how to process it. We paid the bill and were outtie 5000. Losing major cool point event #1: This visit was 2 employees shy of relaxing. They could've used 2 more employees to handle the flow. Losing major cool point event #2: The older lady NEVER SHOULD'VE stopped doing my friend's pedicure to then only do a client that came AFTER US. ********* CUSTOMER SERVICE IS KEY!!!! ********* Losing major cool point event #3: The quality of the work, was subpar. Celine has been my nail tech for a few years and I always look forward to my appointments. She is very nice and sweet. She always executes my vision with my nails. I love that she helps me pick out the best design, color, and shape. Sometimes I may need to alter my appointment date or time and she always try to accommodate me in some way. Since I moved out of town, I sometimes fly in only to get my nails done. My nails usually lasts a month. I recommend Celine as a nail tech! The salon is very welcoming. I want to leave 0 stars but I can't. I went into Magazine Nail Spa on Tuesday of this week. during my gel pedicure, the nail tech over drilled my nail bed down to the skin on my pinky toe. When I notified her of the negligence she tried to blow it off and continue the pedicure. I then told three other techs of the injury sustained, no once showed any care or concern. I was not rude to anyone, not once. I could lose my damn toe. Not one apology was offered, nothing. I then denied my refill service for reasons unknown. I was simply sent on my way with a 10% off discount for the nail Techs negligence of proper use of nail tools. Sigh. So my go to spot isn't any longer. After my last couple of trips, I've decide to downgrade them a star. On my last visit, my tech was on her phone a lot...she was checking her work email at her other job and then commenting and cursing the entire time. When I tried to engage her in conversation, y'know to draw her focus back on me, the paying customer, she either ignored me or made a couple of disparaging comments. While some of the same people are there from the beginning, I think the owners have changed and the manner of the space has become much more abrupt and less welcoming. The brochure of services is heavily marked up with strikeouts for all the items they no longer offer. Despite fewer services and more utilitarian atmosphere, the prices are still premium. read more
