Been coming to this place since I was a child. It still hits every time, especially in the middle of a rough work day. True comfort food. The carne asada 4-way burrito I got on my most recent visit was fat and scrumptious. The service was great and I got my order super fast.

Burrito Mexicano. Gotta be in the top 3 best burritos I've ever had. Red and green salsa. Unbelievable flavor. Perfect heat. Why has this secret eluded me for so long.

This place is a hidden gem! Their breakfast burritos are so good and so filling. You get a lot of bang for your buck. They really don't skimp out on the meat, beans, cheese, eggs, and rice. The burrito itself was really heavy and I had half a burrito leftover at the end. I really like how it was steaming hot when we got it and salsa is to die for. It just adds the proper amount of acidity and freshness to the burrito. This was the first time trying this place and I'm glad that I did cause it's one of my favorite places to get burritos now. Can't wait to come back to try other delicious foods on the menu!

I've got fourteen hundred sixty three bookmarks. Yeah, I am really good at bookmarking. I bookmark like a champ. But do I actually ever go to any of the places I have bookmarked? This year my New Year's resolution was to get busy visiting some of these places. So last week I looked over my collection and picked Maggie's On the Avenue. I'm so glad I did! If you live in Ventura, you automatically know "The Avenue" means Ventura Avenue, over on the west side of town. I worked for like ten or eleven years on the Avenue and have eaten at many of the Avenue's wonderful little restaurants, but I had never tried Maggie's before. I had no idea where it was. See, the Avenue is long. I mean, really long. It starts in downtown Ventura. I'm not sure exactly where it ends, it goes on for miles and miles. I think you can actually take the Avenue all the way up California, Oregon, and Washington, straight through Canada, and into Alaska. My guess is it probably goes all the way to Pt. Barrow. That's 2,899 miles. Maggie's is only like 15 minutes from Downtown, but to get there you have to drive by a lot of other great lunch places, like Johnny's, Taqueria Tepatilan and Taqueria Cuernavaca. With so many other places so much closer, you have to be dead set on eating at Maggie's to withstand the temptation to pull over and eat at one of those spots. And I was. I was on a mission. Nothing was going to stop me. The reason I picked Maggie's was because I wanted a burrito. Specifically a good Bean, Rice and Cheese burrito. I rarely eat meat burritos because I am very particular. Ridiculously so. I can not deal with mediocre burritos, and I think they suck at most places. I've been burned way too many times. I finally just gave up on meat burritos. These days the only burritos I ever order are Beans, Rice and Cheese. You might think it's easy to find a good BRC burrito, but it isn't. Not at all. So many places serve up bland, uninspired beans and rice. No flava. Not Maggie's! The beans and rice here are good. Real good. They made a fine BRC burrito. So happy I found a new place to score a good burrito when I'm in the mood for one. I particularly like that they offer two sizes: Medium and Large. I don't need a burrito the size of my forearm, so I went with a Medium. It was the perfect size for me. I liked that there was nothing else added to the burrito, too. I wouldn't have minded a little cilantro, but I was happy enough with just the beans rice and cheese. Now that I know where Maggie's is, I will definitely be back. There are actually a few other things I'm eager to try, like the huevos rancheros and the corn burritos. I saw some photos of their hamburgers and I'm definitely going to try one of those, they look so good. Oh, and those Munchers, what are Munchers? I don't know, but I'm gonna find out. Mikey C says: 1 bookmark down, 1,462 to go.

We eat at Maggies for lunch at least 3 times per week. We work nearby. They have the process down over there...from ordering, to picking up, the quickness, and of course the grub! Enjoy the this group very much :)

My marker of a good place to eat is usually on how busy they are. :) This recent visit I had a torta (my first, didn't catch the name) and it was outstanding! The meat was fresh and hot and the bun was flavorful! I did note that on my next visit here I want to try the Hawaiian (?) torta! Can't wait to be back! The service is always great each time. I've thought about returning several times over the course of the last year, but never did until tonight. Turns out nothing has changed, still good food, still loud AF. This time I had a Taco al Pastor. It was excellent, with soft, flavorful meat topped with onions, cilantro and a slice of pina. My wife had a Fish taco, which was impressively large. I suspect that fish taco was every bit as excellent as my pastor taco because my wife didn't offer me a bite, as she usually does. We had been talking nonstop since we sat down, but when the tacos arrived the conversation ended. All I could think was, damn, I gotta finish this taco before she asks me for a bite. I imagine she was thinking the same thing. What I didn't have to worry about was sharing the guacamole and tortilla chips. The serving size of the guacamole is easily enough for two people. And the tortilla chips, same generous serving size. The chips are good too, not the boring chips one encounters all too frequently at other places. I was also impressed by the Horchata here. Way above average. Creamy and rich AF. If you aren't having a beer, you definitely should check out the Horchata. And dog, they've got all kinds of beers up in here! I mean, yeah, cold local beers and even happy hour discounts! Gaw! So, yeah, I love this place. I just wish it wasn't so freaking loud. Maybe next time I visit I'll wear my noise cancelling headphones. Mikey C says: if it's too loud, you're too old. True dat.

First off, the parking here is a nightmare. I literally got boxed in and had to ask someone to move their car so I could back out. Secondly, me and my coworker stop here at 11:30am for an early lunch. There is literally 1 other person there who had already ordered and got their meal just as me and my coworker sit down after ordering. We ordered 7 tacos in total... 30 minutes later the food still hadn't arrived. I finally go up to the counter to see if something was wrong and the guy had no idea about our order and said he was sorry that they had a big catering order. As a former business owner I do understand that stuff happens and a large catering order is good for business but ultimately that isn't the customers problem. Especially the customer that is sitting there at your establishment. Rather than tell us while we were ordering that it might take longer than normal, they don't communicate anything and then don't even address the issue until I go up there to complain. Once that happened the tacos came out in less than 5 minutes which is even more upsetting since this is how fast they should have come out to begin with. The gentleman who I think was an owner did apologize and try to offer some free drinks which I politely declined as I knew I'd never be back again. I hope that this business learns to service the customers properly that are actually dining there and if there is an issue at least takes some initiative to address it on the front side. Most working class people only get a 30-45 minute lunch to begin with so it wasn't cool that we literally wasted 30 minutes just sitting there with no explanation. There are plenty of other good places around Ventura for lunch - especially for tacos. Won't be going back here ever.
