Although Maggies is a 20-minute drive for me, it has remained a go-to place for breakfast since it opened in 1979. Maggies is to restaurants, as "Cheers" is to bars. I am sure that will over 90% of people in the restaurant, at any given time, are regulars. Often, you see groups of men at a table, who one can imagine have been going there weekly since Ronald Regan was president. If you like old-fashioned family diners, you will like Maggies. It's also the kind of nondescript place that is easily overlooked. It's in the middle of a strip mall on East Lake Street in Wayzata. It hasn't ever been updated as far as I can tell and their staff turnover is very low. Maggies is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but I've only been there for breakfast. They have all the usual stuff, but everything is well prepared, even though their kitchen is the size of a kitchen in a New York City studio apartment and the grill top is proportionately tiny. Everything is made to order because I don't think there would be any other way to do it. I alternate between the traditional fried eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast breakfast and the French Toast. Although all of the egg dishes are well prepared, the French Toast is special because it's made with Challah bread (or so it seems). The three or five (your choice) soft chewy bread is fried to a perfect golden brown. It has a soft, eggy interior and a crispy exterior that begs for maple syrup and/or butter. You can get it with or without a choice of meat (3 slices for $11 and $3 more for a side of bacon, sausage or ham). Go during the week, and it's only $8 for three slices AND a side of meat. My wife prefers the Cinnamon French Toast, but rarely finishes even the three slices. Overall, prices are reasonable, quantities are large, quality is excellent, and service is consistently good. If fact, currently there are two waitresses (at breakfast time), that seem to be in all places at all times, taking orders, refilling coffee, delivering food, and somehow smiling all the time. These days, that pretty remarkable. So although there are a million breakfast places closer for me than Wayzata, when you hit the superfecta of price, quality, quantity, and service, it's worth driving for. read more

To say I was disappointed is an understatement...maggies is located in a very posh small town on lake Minnetonka . Has a small local diner feel . A bit out of place in Wayzata but been a local legend for years all homemade mid western comfort food with a great breakfast menu . So I was in town and thought let's get some local flare . So off we went it was busy but not full . We sat down and were greeted promptly and we ordered I had the "biscuits and gravy with sausage smothered in sausage gravy " with hash browns so when the order came the biscuits were premade freezer biscuits "rock hard" the sausage patties were premade frozen and the "smothered in gravy " barely covered the biscuit . The hash browns were from a sysco bag but were ok the two eggs over easy were the only thing made there and not just reheated. I will not be going back read more

Back at Maggie's with a few friends and was impressed yet again! I ordered the Cake Combo and was very pleased. The pancakes were not lacking in the taste department, but rather boasting a sweet-and-fluffy flavor I won't soon forget. Bacon and sausage were both pretty darn good, and the eggs were done how I requested. All that for less than $8, so certainly a good deal for a classic breakfast! I did not get to try the other two dishes, but my friends said they enjoyed their food too! Atmosphere was quiet and clean. A good, traditional family style restaurant. They have a full menu and serve breakfast all the time. The food was good/satisfactory. It's wasn't wowing or over the top good but your typical diner type. I was impressed with their wide variety of menu options (full range breakfast items, pizza from a pizza oven, etc. Prices were modest and in line with a smaller town, not like a fancy restaurant in Wayzata. The service was adequate/so-so. Part of that was we came during a busy time (Saturday morning). We were a group of ten, we called ahead for reservations and the table was waiting for us, so this was great and spot on. I'd have no issue coming back, knowing I'm going to have many food choices, satisfactory taste and service and the price to match. read more

One of my favorite breakfast place. I would much rather eat here versus Denny's or IHOP. I get to mingle with the local people.

I give the waitress a 10, she was the only waitress working tonight and I think she had been working since the opened this morning. Even though you could see she was over worked, she was pleasant and professional. I feel we left her a generous tip and hope others did too. I had the calazone, and it was very good, the crust was light and plenty of fillings. I just hope ownership recognizes what a great employee they have. read more

I'm new to town, and wasn't sure what pizza options were nearby. I'm glad I didn't only rely on Yelp, and also used my Map App to search for pizza, because when I first searched for "Pizza" in my area on Yelp, Maggie's didn't appear in the search results. Despite being a family restaurant, it would be great to get this place reclassified as a pizza place because the pizza was incredible. Thin crust, great sauce (not too sweet), and perfect amount of toppings. The whole family loved it. Covid: masks required, and all employees had them on. I just do not get the draw of this place. Several friends, who dine out a fair amount, swear by Maggie's breakfast. On the one hand, I can respect a small mom-and-pop type operation slinging unpretentious food at reasonable prices, especially given the neck of the woods they find themselves located. On the other hand, every town in America has five or six places just like it. I like a good greasy spoon as much as the next person. I had no issue with the service whatsoever; the quality of the food was what was so underwhelming. I think most people could make something equivalent or better in their own kitchen. Cinnamon roll, eggs, country fried steak all so-so. The one thing we got that we thought was really good were the hash browns. Never had the pizza, which I am told is quite good. read more

I ordered the crab cake benedict for breakfast. The crab cakes themselves tasted spoiled, the poached eggs were under done. The first time the cook made it, they put sausage gravy on it instead of hollandaise. My partner ordered the country fried steak breakfast, he said it was just okay, the toast was very burnt. Had a buffalo chicken wrap. It was very good. Staff was really friendly even during a busy time.

Took my father-in-law there for dinner. (He's a WWII veteran.) He had a platter of spaghetti, devoured the entire entrée. My wife and I split a medium sausage & mushroom pizza (thin crust). This is the best pizza in town! The three of us shared a bottle of malbec wine. Our waitress was a wonderful gal, great service. Really like this place. So disappointed in a once-favorite restaurant. Saturday mid-morning breakfast. First, menu is printed so small I had to use my cell phone camera to read it. Next, waitress was very impatient with us, did not like answering questions or special requests. Then our orders were not made accurately-strawberry instead of blueberry on pancakes, forgot several items (bacon, toast), hash browns cooked to a crisp, to the point of inedible, and my Mexican egg dish came cold. Each time we pointed out something was not right the waitress acted irritated. Silverware was dirty and nobody ever offered to refill waters. Place was busy but not "crazy busy" so not sure why, but she didn't seem very happy be working. Hopefully just a bad day. Anyway, too many other options available to return there again. read more

IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR, AVOID THIS RESTAURANT. I took my Mom there because it had good reviews, but from the minute we walked in we were made to feel unwelcome. From the unfriendly look & dismissive response of the thin man handling the register at the time to the unparalleled rudeness of the lone server for the night Libby, it was an experience I would wish on no one. When we indicated that we would stay in spite of the fact that we didn't have a reservation, they offered us a choice of three filthy & dinky tables closest to the kitchen (one was also right next to the restrooms). When I declined and asked Libby how long the wait would be, she rudely responded, " I don't know, people are eating." Although I was shocked at that level of pugnacity, I told her right off that she was rude and that was unnecessary. She responded right back with another incredibly rude and nonchalant response, and we went back & forth for a couple of mins. We eventually left because, even though I was determined to stay in spite of their open hostility, it got down right ugly and other customers got involved. I will definitely not be back there and don't recommend it to anyone, no matter how purportedly good the food is supposed to be. No amount of good food is sufficient to warrant that level of repugnant behavior. read more

Maggie's was so good we went there for breakfast twice while visiting Wayzata. French toast is a recommended favorite. Don't order the 5 piece unless you are really hungry. It's a huge serving. Visited Maggie's for breakfast for the first time on a Diner's Club Card coupon. Food was good. I had eggs, homefries, sausage and the pancake upgrade. The sausage was good, homefries were awesome and the pancakes were ok - could have used some warm syrup! Boyfriend had the Mexican omelet that was delicious and pretty big - about the size of a burrito! The only downfall was that they didn't seem to have refills on soda (I only glanced at the bill and saw $1.95x2 which I assumed was my soda.) Rip off!!! Next time I'll make a note and nurse it a bit longer! Definitely check it out. Seating might be hard to come by if you're in a big group or if you show up during the rush, but worth it for tasty diner breakfast. read more

Are here for a brief lunch with one other person and had chicken and wild rice soup was not the best and lacked flavour. The walleye fingers were fairly hard and unfortunately greasy and bland. Nice little mom and pop breakfast diner in downtown Wayzata. It's seat yourself which can be a little confusing when you walk in. Most tables are for 4 people so not great for groups. I had the sausage and mushroom scramble and my fiancé had the corn beef hash. My scramble hit the spot. The diced link sausage with tons of veggies were delicious. Side of toast and potatoes helped the cause. Portion sizes are enough to feed two or take home leftovers. Great prices for being in Wayzata.
