I tryed out a new salon and stylist on April 25 2022. Magic hair and nails The owner Mai did a AMAZING JOB! It was a bit more then I usually pay to get my hair done , but so worth it . My hair was dry and dull and when I left there it was so healthy and shiney. I will definitely be back. I got so many compliments on how good my hair looked from friends and family. She was fantastic my hair is very long so it takes a long time to do. The color is beauitful and my hair is so soft. Five dollars for a bang trim? Sure why not. Although slightly uneven... definitely better than the shaggy look I came in with. I did notice that there were toe nail clippings around their pedicure stations that had not been cleaned so you have been warned!!! As for the parking.... the spaces in front of the store are painted and clearly state they are for Magic Hair and Nails only... there are similar ones for the carpet company next door. read more

This place might be good for getting your hair cut or colored, but for your pedicure best to go elsewhere. They had a very poor selection of polish colors. The massage chairs which I'm a big fan of were either broken or not plugged in. They also lacked the friendliness that I'm used to getting in most places. I selected the best choice of pedicure $35-40.00 and was kind of confused when she asked me "which one, 35 or 40?" I didn't understand what the difference was, as it only had one description listed. Oh well, probably the length of foot massage? Also forget about those hot rocks that some places offer, none came out for my deluxe pedicure. One nice thing was that when I told her I was ticklish, she gladly didn't scrub my foot. :-/ I'm not one to give a bad review, this is my first. Magic Hair & Nails has been my go to salon/barber shop for the past 11 years. My Dad originally took me to their first location in Campbell when I was 10 and I have been coming ever since. Unfortunately the salon was relocated due to new construction, making the trip a little farther for many of the local families that once came to the salon and thus hurting business. May, the owner, has become a close friend of my family and has always been quite personable. She and my mother always used to gossip or chat about life whilst snipping away at my hair. So it saddens me that the salon doesn't receive as many patrons as it once did. Now that I attend a university outside of the area, I make it a point to visit the salon whenever I'm home. I have never been disappointed with the quality of my haircut, though some of the women cut better than others. I am not guaranteeing a SF Salon grade haircut but for Magic Hair & Nail's price, nothing else quite compares. It's great for college students. Recently I've decided to try new hairstyles out, something different from my hair in high school. The barbers were more than happy to join and we've made it into a kind of game. They consistently accommodate me as long as I bring in some reference photos to get a good feel for what they are getting into. It's been a success so far, at least my friends at school seem to like my hair! To address Allison H.'s review, the parking in front of the salon has been clearly marked for a good amount of time now. The lot is very competitive, I know, so I just park farther away and walk since I don't mind. I can't really defend against the threatening behavior claim, since I was not there but that seems strangely uncharacteristic of the ladies that I know there. Thanks for reading my review! I was desperate to get my nails done before going out to celebrate my birthday. This shop is close to where I live, so I thought I would give it a try. Big - no, HUGE mistake. The two ladies told me they would be right with me. When I told them I would come back another time (after waiting 20 minutes), the woman with the page boy haircut told me she would only be another 2 minutes, so I should stay. Ten minutes later, she finally sat down to do my nails. I inquired as to the pricing (because the price list was confusing - acrylic full set was listed as $19.99 & Up. And up? Wtf does that mean? Ooookay. After consulting with her partner, they decided that for me, a full set would be $25. Whatever, fine. Just let's get on with it. Oh. My. God. I have been getting my nails done consistently for about 15 years. This was by far the crappiest - and slowest - set I have ever gotten. It took her 10 minutes just to figure out which size nails to put on. It took her another FORTY FIVE minutes just to put the acrylic on the nails. The trick with fake nails is you can't put the acrylic on too thick, otherwise they will look like colored corn puffs on your fingertips. I watched as this woman painstakingly formed each nail into sloppy, uneven, bulbous...blobs. Then I noticed a little quarter-inch sized hair on one of the nails. And the acrylic on one nail looked like it had a gouge on one side. Another nail stopped short right before the cuticle bed. I pointed all of these out to her, and she argued with me, telling me that it was actually something wrong with my nail! I told her I didn't like it and she had to fix it. She did, grudgingly. All the while, she and her partner speaking to each other and cutting their eyes at me. When I pointed out the hair, she said she couldn't see it. She had to peer really closely at my finger, and even still, I had to point it out before she could discern it. Afterwards, she told me, "oh you saw it because you wear glasses" and in my head, I thought - "uh yeah, maybe you should too!" After AN HOUR AND A HALF, she was only done with one hand (no polish yet), and I finally told her I would have to leave in 10 min. She had to get the other lady to help her! Then I saw it - another hair! It had been embedded into the acrylic IN the nail, and the only way to get it out would be to remove the whole nail. I felt so disgusted. I will have to walk around with some person's hair fragment embedded in my nail for the next few weeks! Blech. At that point, I just wanted to run screaming out of the salon. When I reminded her that I had to go, she offered to just put nail polish on tomorrow. WTH? "I can't go out with my nails like this," I told her. So she (sloppily) slathered on a couple of coats of nail polish. I paid my bill and literally ran away from that place, vowing to go to my regular salon tomorrow to have the disgusting corn puff nails with embedded DNA removed post haste. I love this place. Mae, the owner is one of the sweetest, most generous ladies I know and I always leave satisfied. You can tell she really knows hair and beauty. I've gotten my hair colored there twice, my first time being the very first time I EVER colored my hair, and I was very nervous and had no idea what to do.... I left it up to her to pick the best color for my highlights and I was really pleased with the results (subtle highlights throughout) and it grew out really nicely. The second time I just got a conditioning gloss (matched perfectly to my natural hair color) and trim and my hair looked so clean, shiny, and cute afterwards. I got a beautiful gel mani from Mae right before the holidays and was also very pleased with it. Overall very pleasant experience & nice ambiance. read more

Highly recommend this place! When you walk in it is very clean, walk-ins are welcome and prices are reasonable. It's high-end while still feeling cozy--large leather massage chairs for pedicures make your stay very comfortable :) Shop is located just across from the Pruneyard---- Look for the teal Carpet One sign just past Apricot Ave. I went to Regis Salon in Valley Fair for years and found this place to have just as good quality hairdressers but for half the price, and they'll get you out in half the time! Mae is the woman who owns the shop, and she really is the best!! She can do any style of hair! I have very thick, curly, coarse hair and I trust her fully to give me the style I'm looking for. I get nervous sometimes b/c people with straight hair may not realize how much curly hair rises but she always keeps that in mind and gives me beautiful layers that aren't too short. May owns the shop and the people who work here are friendly and professional. I go here for an occasional mani-pedi and frequently for waxing. The prices are incredibly reasonable and the service is excellent. I do recommend calling ahead for an appointment as a courtesy although walk-ins are welcome. read more

I really can't understand why this place has such high ratings. They are very slow and when you call and make an appointment for 2 then you should both be at the same time. We had to wait for one of us to be halfway done for the other to get started! They also aren't very skilled so your money is definitely better spent elsewhere. read more

Went in here for a shellac manicure. The place is very small and tucked away which really doesn't bother me. It took her an hour and half for shellac! She took a good 20 minutes just on my cuticles. After she did the first layer of polish someone else came and took over which I found odd. The colors were not at all what I asked and my nails were a mess! The ends of the polish are wrinkled and the polish doesn't go to the edges or cuticle of my nails. The ends were filed and left jagged and they are all crooked. All in all, they are about 5 Dollars cheaper but NOT worth it, I recommend going to Sakura in japantown for a good shellac manicure! Waste of money. read more

I've been here a few times, and my only slight negative is the price in comparison to other mani/pedi spots (even then it's reasonable, just slightly higher than other places). Relaxing massage chairs to top it off. They can squeeze you in pretty quickly, but I actually recommend reservations on weekends (they can tell you it will be 10 min as a walk-in, but that time quickly increases while you're there). read more

I called for a manicure appointment, which the owner gave me for 45 minutes later. I arrived a few minutes early, and was taken on time. Terrible. I went as a walk-in, and they took me right away. Nice! I needed a new set of acrylics, because I'm a nail biter and trying to break the habit. Long story short, I'm bleeding from 8 out of 10 fingers. My nails look like a beauty school student did them, not a professional. And, before I realized what had happened she was putting gel on my acrylics. I didn't want that, but had to pay for it anyways, which is made worse because she did a terrible job! The gel doesn't cover all of the acrylic - it doesn't go all the way to my cuticles, which is probably just as well since I'm bleeding from half of them. I wish I wasn't such a chicken. I'm currently 40 weeks pregnant, and forsure overdue pedicure. I decided to give this place a try, called in advanced to make sure they did what I was looking for. Over the fone lady was nice and explained what they were going to do. When I walked in, I said " I called for the pedicure" , the lady was very rude. Sat in the chair she just sprinkled my toes and started to cut every other toenail. I told her it hurt if she can please wet them a little bit more and make sure to cut ALL toes. She told me "You're pregnant, I can't make you be in pain". I told her if she had let my feet soak in for at least 5 minutes I wouldn't be in pain. She didn't even cut the toenail correctly, nor did she take out my fattoe nails either. When she was done (The process was over in 4 1/2 minites by the way) she was going to charge me $16, I was told over the fone it would be $10. I wouldn't have mind paying $16 if she would have actually done what I wanted. Most horrible experience and most horrible attitude i have experienced from any other shops. This one forsure was the most rude, unprofessional and I am FORSURE not going back there ever again. I could have done a better job myself if I wasn't 40 weeks pregnant ! I advice if you are going to come here, be prepared to not have what you want to be done ! read more

I've been coming here for almost 23 years dating back to the previous location. My hair is extremely difficult to cut and requires expertise that is hard to find in the profession. I've had to go elsewhere a few times in the past couple of decades due to being out of town and regretted doing so every time. The owner May is extremely knowledgeable and friendly.
