Extremely dissatisfied with my pool solar install by Magic Sun. I had an old solar system when I bought my home that worked very well, after I installed a new roof I had pool & electric solar installed. I did not realize Magic Sun sacrificed the quality of my pool solar to sell me more electric solar... not cool. The pool solar is totally useless, does not produce any heat, when I asked for a review I was told I would need to cut down my (4) Birch trees (very delicate branches) in order for pool solar to work. This was not suggested or shared when installing the solar, perhaps they knew that would be a hard no. I will need to have new pool solar installed and repair my new roof. I am floored that Magic Sun could not manage to provide good pool solar and add enough electric solar to satisfy their profit. 1 star is being generous. read more

Specifically, Neil Hurlock, did a great job getting started & pushing the project over the finish line. Magic Solar handled the permitting and approval side of the process. The panels are very high quality & a good price when I compared with other vendors. I got quotes from 3 vendors. Magic Solar had the best solar panels for the best overall price. They installed the panels ahead of schedule The solar panels come with a helpful app that shows how much power I'm producing and exporting into the grid. We recently moved into a home without solar. Before we called Neil again we did talk to 3 other companies and 2 of them tried to BS us. We were very happy when we used Magic Sun 3 years ago and we went with them again this time. When we did the old house we were impressed with their 5 star rating and they still have it. An honest review: Magic Sun Solar has come through twice now for me and has exceeded expectations. On this occasion, I came home to a leaking roof after the recent torrential rains. I called out two roofers, both looked at the solar array over the leaking area and walked away. They were certain it was solar related and would not do anything until the solar panels were removed. Magic Sun Solar sent a team out to our house and rapidly found the leak. It was nothing to do with the solar panels or installation, but related entirely to flashing failure around a nearby vent pipe penetrating the roof. Because the leak was not solar related, their team was not authorized to do a full repair, but effected an emergency repair. Two things strike me: The first is that the obvious cause of a leak - faulty installation - was not the cause. Secondly, Magic Sun were very responsive and helpful. I needed to have some roof repairs done and had a number of solar panels installed from another company removed and reattached to facilitate the work. This type of thing is a small job (my original installers were not responsive/uninterested), and I was not an existing customer of theirs, but Magic Sun took the job and did the work at a reasonable price. The crew was friendly, timely and ensured things were working perfectly after the work was performed. I contracted Magic Sun Solar to install a PV solar system on my house in Nov 2014 (greater than 9years ago). (Magic sun provided a 10 year system warranty) In the beginning of 2024 I noticed that one of the 14 panels they installed dropped it's power production by about 30%. I contacted Magic Sun and provided them the data that I collected. They came to my house and swapped the "bad" panel with a "good" one to see if the issue moved with the panel... which it did. They contacted the manufacturer, obtained a replacement panel and installed it. Less than a month from initial contact to having a replaced panel. I would 100percent recommend Magic Sun Solar for your solar needs!!! read more

Far exceeded expectations. From the first contact, to the system design, to the quote and installation, I could not be happier. As a bonus, they also had the best price on multiple quotes I received. Now the system is up and running, it works exactly as they designed and estimated, based on my PG&E data from last year. Three years ago, we moved to another County in Northern California. We soon learned that our PG&E electric charges we extremely high (in fact, ridiculous) Last year I began exploring solar energy options. After doing some research, I interviewed 5 Solar Companies. As you would expect, I looked at a variety of factors with respect to cost, warranties, energy production, installer experience, panel and microinverter manufacturers and installation details. I was also interested in what information would be available post installation via computer / smart phone with respect to energy production. I ultimately decided to move forward with Magic Sun. I had my solar system installed by Magic Sun Solar in April 2018, and I was beyond thrilled to see my recent True Up Bill! My bill was a total of $78 after a year of usage, whereas my energy bills used to be ~$400/month. I had to write a Yelp review in appreciation of the team that helped me save thousands of dollars over the past year since my solar system was installed. I was referred to Magic Sun solar by a family friend who had them install panels the year before and was very happy with the service and outcome. She put me in contact with Neil Hurlock, whose professionalism I was impressed by right from the start. He was accommodating of my work schedule and agreed to meet with me at 6pm on a Friday evening. He was very knowledgeable and helped me analyze my energy usage to determine the number and type of panels I needed for my house. He took the time to build a system with me, thoroughly answered all my questions (I did have a lot!), and gave me panel options. He took me though the entire process from start to finish. I appreciated his patience and transparency. He understood that I was still receiving quotes from other solar companies, but didn't resort to high pressure sales tactics that I experienced from other solar consultants. He projected extreme confidence in his product without being pushy. When I decided that Magic Sun had the best quality panels for the price, I gave Neil and call and he had a solar proposal drafted and emailed to me that same day! In reading another customer's comment, the word shady came up, so I felt compelled to also add a review. Do not use this company. Sorry to say we had to pursue resolution through the California State License Board for the faulty wiring job they did. Unless you can be on your roof during install, and see what is done under your panels, be warned! Although we would have liked to have had our entire install removed, so we would never have to deal with them again, at least we were compensated for the wiring issues. NOTE: They also have a practice of selling discontinued solar panels to customers, so if/when you need to add more, you may have to additional costs that you did not plan for. read more

Magic Sun replaced our electric panel and installed solar. We're pleased with the work but would not recommend them because they are misleading and shady. When choosing a solar installer, we wanted one who could install it in 2022 so we could get the tax rebate in beginning of 2023 because we had a baby on the way and renovating our house. We told Magic sun that was priority #1. They were more expensive than others but we went with them because they assured us they would get it done but they didn't install until January. So no tax rebate until 2024 :( Then, somehow my signature page on my contract with Magic Sun was taken out and put into a more expensive contract they sent to my lender. If I hadn't read through my lender's contract before esigning, I would have paid Magic Sun more than our contract. We just moved to Placer County and were pretty shocked when we saw how high our monthly electricity bills were. Guess that's what you have to expect when you are in PG&E territory (as opposed to SMUD or Roseville Electric). We were running a 2.0 HP pool motor, as well as using A/C to cool down a large 2-story home. When we talked to our neighbors, they said their monthly bills were sometimes around $400-500/month. We decided we needed to look into solar panels STAT. When we looked online, there were a TON of companies that offered solar panels. We'd hear them on radio ads, in Giants game commercials, on TV, in magazine ads, in mailers, walking around Home Depot, everywhere. We wanted to do our research and make sure we chose an experienced company, not a fly-by-night one. We knew from our research that we wanted to OWN the panels, rather than lease them, because you definitely don't save money when you lease. Plus you can get more credits back when you own the solar panels. We knew that we'd have to get solar panels installed before the 30% government tax rebate was up in 2016. We looked here on Yelp and decided to have a few of the top companies come out and give us quotes. It got to be a confusing process because every company would tell us their company was better than others, etc. We talked to: Magic Sun, Solar Revolution, Energy Saving Pros, Hooked on Solar, Skyline Solar and also got info for Sunrun, Solar City, and Sunpower. We learned that a lot of companies use polycrystalline panels, which usually tend to be less expensive than higher-quality monocrystalline panels. If the prices were the same, we definitely wanted to stick with the mono panels (plus I like the little diamond shape they have on the panels!). There was also a difference in the type of inverters that are used for each panel [My husband's review will probably go more in depth with that later]. Apparently there's a difference in micro-inverters versus central inverters. We did some research with Enphase micro-inverters and SolarEdge central inverters and decided that the Enphase product was a better quality than SolarEdge, which seemed to have a bit of a troubled past. We also wanted a company that could help us finance our solar panels. We learned about the mPower program (thru Yelp and thru Magic Sun) and decided it would be our best bet. You basically have to attend an informational meeting and then everything is taken care of thru Magic Sun (who is already an approved mPower contractor). It was actually a very smooth and seamless process. The interest rate for mPower is 6%, which isn't too bad when we compared it with other loans like Enerbank, which had a lot of hidden fees that would add up to closer to 12-13%. After weeks of copious research and meeting different solar companies, we decided that we wanted MAGIC SUN SOLAR to do our panels. They were topnotch and while they weren't the lowest-priced company, they were the most experienced and knew quality. Oscar was amazing--so knowledgable and helpful! He is a genius with numbers! We didn't feel the used-car salesman feel from him that we felt from other solar companies. You'll have to check out the Enphase app/website that Magic Sun uses. This was actually one of the deciding factors for us. Other companies had apps and websites, but they paled in comparison to the Enphase app. You can actually see a playback of how much energy each panel produces from sunrise to sunset. It's pretty fancy and my husband is on the app constantly to see how much energy is being produced. :) Perfect for people who are into tech and numbers. We ended up going with 21 of the MonoX 305 LG panels. The Magic Sun contractors showed up at 8am and were done by 3pm. They took care of getting all the permits from PG&E and the City of Rocklin. We didn't have to worry about anything, other than making sure they had access to the attic during the day of install. The 3 guys that came to our house were all friendly and professional, despite it being a really hot day! The lead guy, Jim, was great. He was able to answer questions and get everything set up in one day. At the end of the day, I was looking at the panels and asked him, "How did you guys happen to find a pipe that matches the color of our house?" He told me that during lunch, the guys had gone to Home Depot to match the color of the paint to our house. To me, that was pretty impressive. It's been about 2 months now and our solar panels look amazing. We've only received one PG&E bill so far and it's substantially lower. We are hoping to get a zero bill next month! Our cousin and uncle have also gotten their solar panels thru Magic Sun Solar and have had nothing but great things to say about this company. We wholeheartedly recommend MAGIC SUN to everyone. I have a spreadsheet of over a dozen companies I talked to. It's confusing at first as there's a lot of different products & technologies. I got educated about panels and inverters from different salespeople. Oscar was fantastic to work with & I looked at other local jobs they did. Magic Sun is clean and tidy where as other's neighbors have pipes and wires in ugly configurations. I'm happy with our clean look. Electric bill has dropped from about $500 in the summer to about $8/month. This year we added a few more panels as we are getting an electric car soon. At the time of this review, Magic Sun Solar has over 95% 5-star ratings on Yelp, and it's very easy for me to see why. I contacted them to get an estimate on installing solar panels for my home, and they were very responsive. Adlai came out and met with us for an initial consultation, explaining the benefits of solar, the installation process, and generally just answering all of the many questions we had. These guys are the real deal - true experts in this arena. Communication with the front office was perfect from beginning to end, and the installers did a fantastic job. On top of that, Magic Sun handles ALL of the paperwork, including permits and the hook-up to PG&E, so we didn't have to do ANYTHING! They also provide the tools necessary for real-time monitoring of our system's performance, and have a very long warranty on their product (I think it's 30 years on the panels themselves and 15 years on installation). If you live in this area, solar is an excellent opportunity to be green and to save money, and these guys are your best bet for getting it done! read more

This July we were going to experience our first true-up and I was nervous because we didn't limit our use of AC or other electricity. To my surprise, we actually received a credit on our true-up. I highly recommend Magic Sun Solar, I would give them more than 5 stars if I could! I met with 3 companies about adding a solar system and decided to go with Magic Sun, and i'm so glad I did. Their price came in lower than the other two companies I met with, and Magic Sun is local (just 10 minutes from my home) which was nice too. I ended up getting more panels at a lower cost than what the other solar companies quoted me, and got some misinformation regarding adding a 2nd solar system from one of the other top solar companies i met with. I was really wanting to get the new solar installed before end of year to take advantage of federal tax credit, and Magic Sun got it done 2 weeks earlier than promised. Their install crew was fantastic and respectful of my property. Oscar has been great, I learned so much from him about solar, taking advantage of the right PG&E rate plan to maximize our savings, and everything else i needed to know about the new system. Like all of you, who are reading reviews because you are tired of PG&E or SMUD and ready to switch to solar, we started looking at reviews for the most highly recommended and reputable solar companies are in the area. We called and made appointments with 4 of the highest rated solar companies in the area. Oscar at Magic Sun provided not only the best price per kilowatt, but clearly had a higher understanding of how net metering worked and was able to answer all of my questions. The design Magic Sun put together and the panels, inverter system and monitoring set up they recommended was the most thoughtful. The quote was easy to understand. In addition, Oscar was able to find financing for us at a super competitive rate. The other companies just fell short. Their reps were not as well equipped to answer all of my questions. Their recommended rooftop design were not as efficient, their panels and labor cost more, and they did not have a financing recommendation that was competitive at all. A lot of times you pay they most for the best product. In this case, we paid the least for the best product. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't cheap for 37 panels. But the other quotes were either several thousand dollars more or the same price for less panels. And we needed to finance and going with Magic's lending partner vs. the competition saved us an additional $4k in interest. It took a few weeks to get the panels installed, but that is normal when everyone is trying to take advantage of the tax break and you are working with a company that everyone wants to work with. We signed in August and were installed in October. We had ordered a whole house fan from them as well (highly recommend!) and they arranged to have that installed right away to help with our energy savings (which it did). Magic sun had the panels installed on the roof and making energy in one day. We were connected to the grid a few days later. We have had our system now for 5 months and are very pleased. We love tracking our energy production and are grateful that we own our system instead of leasing it or continuing to pay PG&E crazy rates. It's a smart investment for our home. If you want the best people in the business, go with Magic Sun. They know what they are doing better than anyone else and provide the most cost effective solution. Outstanding! I was replacing a shake roof with tile and asked the Bartile rep who was certified to install on their roof without invalidating warranty - Magic Sun. I had already met with several solar companies but was immediately impressed with their knowledge and use of technology to get exact measurements. We had solar panels installed on our roof last spring. We got a couple of quotes from different installers in the Sacramento and Davis area. In all honesty for the most part they all offered fairly comparable prices given the slight variation in the panels and products they were offering. Magic Sun Solar was on the lower end for sure, but they weren't dollar for dollar the lowest. What sold us was the value and consistent quality throughout. We got great panels installed by excellent installers all shepherded through by the consistent oversight and guidance of Oscar who was a pleasure to work with the entire time. About 6 months later no complaints, a dramatically reduced electrical bill, and we just purchased a new plug-in hybrid vehicle so are looking to use their services once more. Although my first install with Magic Sun went perfectly, when I went to add 6 more panels the blame game began! My panels were installed correctly, the gal in the office had noted on the contract to call me with CC authorization for payment. She never did so and at the end of June, almost 2 months later (perhaps due to an end of quarter analysis) she never did her job. I can only assume she then blamed me the customer to cover her error. She claims she sent numerous emails of which Id received none . On June 30, while I was at the airport she called me in a panic . I informed her I would handle it in July on the 15.th when I returned from vacation. She agreed to contact me. Never happened. Not sure what transpired up to today but I received a call from some manager, hell bent on me ditching the payment. They shut off all panels including the 23 I have paid for. No warning just poor customer service. His tone was perhaps set by what he was told by the group that did not do their job! I made the CC payment as promised today. This company's disorganization could become your problem. Btw, the manger threatened to put a lien on My house. I cannot recommend them to anyone, even as great as the salesman and install team was. read more
