We are very happy with what we got for the price we paid, it was a good value. It looks so much better than it did before and is consistently producing more energy. I feel like they helped us make the right decisions through the whole process, especially for system size to be able to keep our NEM1 status. The new roof looks great and works really well. I waited almost a year to write this review to make sure there wasn't any water intrusion during the winter storms - not a drop anywhere. PG&E electricity charge is amongst the highest in nation and rapidly worsen with time. My stone age solar system from 2009 barely made a dent with our electricity bill and it's time to upgrade. I spoke with 5 solar companies that service my area and quickly narrow down to Volt Modern for their honesty, price, technical proficiency and zero pressure sale tactics. I spend a great deal of time with their system designer Kyle going over various solar and backup batteries options with the goal of not using a drop of electron from PG&E while keeping the total cost reasonable. After we finalized the design on paper, Buck the owner and his crew chief did a walk through of my house and made adjustment of the design to make sure things go smoothly. The work started promptly and I had good communication with the work crew and their manager every step of the way. Technology have come a long way to improve solar panel performance and reduce cost of battery. You want to think of solar panels as the gas pump and batteries as the gas tank of a truck. Without a proper size gas tank you will suffer range anxiety like many EV owners. When I first had my solar installed in 2009, there were no viable "gas tank" options to store the energy generated by solar panels. I still remember the sale person laugh when I ask about batteries. Volt Modern designed my three solar arrays to face three different directions. This way it can maximize sun exposure all four seasons. I chose to go with SIgenergy stackable batteries total 27 Kwh (that's more than two Tesla wall batteries) and my solar was 13 Kwh which was twice the size of my old system. I was happy to see folks from Volt modern took the time to do things right. They first carefully removed my old solar systems. Replace and repair damaged roof tiles from previous solar install. Install and route new solar panels to the batteries. It was no small feat since my house is three stores up from the street with steep driveway. They handled fire department and city inspection swiftly and made necessary adjustment to pass inspection. I was thrilled when we turn the system on and I can monitor solar, batteries and grid (PG&E) power flow on my phone. The Sigenergy system is able to switch back and forth between batteries and grid seamlessly in case of a PG&E power failure. It is a true off grid system. I was able to stress test the system with recent bad weather and heavy fog. The system was able to absorb energy from the sun and power the whole house during the day despite dense fog and recharge the batteries! I couldn't believe I did not use any electricity from PG&E during the week where five out of seven days had dense fog advisory from weather service. After much research, we had the top six companies quote us estimates for solar on our Loomis house. I noticed that each company explained the process differently; some explanations were good, while others left me more confused. When Buck arrived, he stayed until we were satisfied with our understanding, and I learned so much more from his explanations than from all other companies. I think Volt Modern is a good company that does good work. I went through a full solar install with them, and while there were some hiccups, I felt the communication and service were well above average. The reason I'm leaving 4-stars instead of 5 is because their salesman was not completely honest and transparent, or not well informed, about major topics that were used to push the sale. The first was the solar incentives via the net metering program. The second was the solar tax credit. I corrected his information about net metering while we were still closing the sale. I didn't find out about the tax credit info until I filed my taxes recently - though I still contacted him to make sure he was aware of how it actually worked in hopes that he wouldn't mislead future customers. I do take responsibility for not looking deeper into how the tax credit is actually applied, but I shouldn't have been given ambiguous info to begin with. In my case, none of the misleading was even necessary - I was basically a guaranteed sale and I said as much from the beginning. I would have done the install regardless of the true status of the net metering program at the time, and regardless of how the financing worked in conjunction with the tax credit. But I do take issue with bad information being given to people who often won't have the time or resources to fully understand and vet that info. I respect that sales people have to sell, but especially in a family-owned business like this, there should be a higher standard for how that takes place. I do want to give my thanks and appreciation to the install team, who worked hard and went above and beyond with me. I also appreciate that I was able to speak directly with the owner on multiple occasions when clearing up issues (mostly related to SunPower directly, not Volt Modern or their work). I would still highly recommend Volt Modern as a company, and I feel that whatever the job is, they will get it done correctly. UPDATE: They've earned the 5th star - owner personally called and addressed all issues. You just don't find this kind of service and care from other businesses. I have had the solar panels for about 4 months now. So far our utility bill, which was about $600 a month, is almost 0. We installed 34 solar panels and have two 5 ton seer-16 heat pumps and an induction electric cooktop. We just pay for natural gas for our water heaters and the small connect fee from PGE. They seem like an honest company - I just recommended them to a neighbor and Volt Modern told them their house was not suitable for solar - instead of trying to sell them something. The installation crew knew what they were doing, instead of being a bunch of beginners. You might find a lower bid from another company but a lot of these contractors are nothing but trouble. The Enphase monitoring program is quite useful to keep track of what's going on. On very cloudy days we are only producing about 20% of normal. But 80-90% of the days we are close to full production. This depends upon the time of year of course. Its nice to heat and air condition the house for free - otherwise my wife would have us roasting or freezing - now she doesn't care. We have a concrete tile roof and no leaks have occurred after installation. So we are hoping to be paid back for the solar in 4 to 5 years - and the rest is just free. Granite Bay has very expensive power. One note is that they should leave instructions on how to turn on/off the solar power since a few breakers have to be used. read more

(I just thought our gutter was too short‍ Gave a reasonable estimate and scheduled the work . Volt 1. Clean all tile valleys (remove tile, remove debris, inspect felts, reinstall tile) 2. Remove ridge tile, install molded plastic "verde" flashing. Reinstall ridge tile 3. Cut metal bird stop at bottom of tile to allow greater volume of water to flow out of the valley. My husband and I just had Volt Modern replace our roof and install solar panels. We cannot be more pleased with the results! Volt's bids for both the roof and the solar were extremely competitive. They also are SunPower dealers...we have had these panels on a previous home and were very happy with them. The sales representative did not pressure us or try to upsell us. The designers were able to arrange the solar panels in a way that maximized efficiency, but also did not detract from the aesthetic of our 1950s home. Multiple neighbors have commented on how nice the panels look and how great it is that they cannot be seen from the front of the house. I am going to try and keep what could be a novel about how fantastic Buck and Volt Modern Roofing and Solar are fairly short. From my very first contact with Buck, I knew right away I liked him and that he seemed completely honest and helpful. Unfortunately, with lack of roofers in my area I was trying to pull together quotes and Volt is the farthest quote I went for (a very different market). Because of this, I told Buck that local roofers here came in under his estimate and even though I wanted to go with them I had to pick someone else because this was an unexpected roof replacement on my part and I had to go as cheap as I could. Well, in the best possible way you can imagine, Buck wasn't going to let me go that easily and he worked with me on a price I could be happy with. He was not pushy at all- he just wanted to present something we could both be happy about and that is exactly what happened. From start to finish working with Buck was absolutely incredible. Buck and his crew did an outstanding job on my tile roof where we had water damage, removing dry rot around the rear gutters, replaced damaged wood and paper. One key area that appears to have caused a great deal of damage was the valley area of the roof that was designed in such a way that branches, Leaves, etc. could not effectively flow towards the gutter. They cut a trough in the valley a few inches wide so that any excess foliage could flow easily to our leaf Filter System we recently had installed. They also diverted our solar pool water line, which was installed by another vendor, to avoid any possible conflict with water flow down the valley. Every step of the way, Gaspar oversaw the project in a very professional nature, using quality materials, and technical expertise. Even though the crew spent several hours on the project, I was especially pleased that they discounted the projected fee based up my military background as a Marine veteran. Since you're reading this, I assume you need to find a roofer. Please keep reading. Let me share with you my story. A few weeks ago, I found my husband pouting. I knew it was bad news. He only pouted for two things: no more bran muffins or something needs to be repaired. Since he just finished baking, I knew it was the latter. "The Chico house needs a new roof!" he said and proceeded to pout more. "What?!" I asked. "It is supposed to have a 30 year roof. When we bought it had a new roof." "So?" he asked. "So, it was 23 years ago. Which means, we still have 7 years left, at least!" "Sandy hired a roofer to fix a leak and the roofer said we need a new roof." Ah, Sandy. Sandy is our property manager. We don't dare ignore her. Instead of telling Sandy to go ahead with replacing the roof, we told her we're going to find a roofer ourselves. We began our quest to find a roofer. When I say we, I mean I. Since we live in SouthCal, I went to yelp. Have you seen roofers on Yelp in the Chico area? Good God! Did you see how many of them got 5 stars? Almost none of them! Crazy! I thought people in the Chico area must be hard to please, but boy was I wrong! I contacted four roofers (including Buck). Three gave me an estimate to replace the roof. Two of their prices were within the range. One gave us a price that makes you think we're rebuilding the Taj Mahal! Then, it was Buck's turn. He visited the property. He went up to the roof, he called me and we did FaceTime. He told me we didn't need a new roof. "The roof still has at least 7 years of its life," he said. What?! Yeah. I don't like to hire anyone for anything who looks like they haven't taken a shower in months. In my experience, if they look sloppy, their work will be sloppy, therefore, a sloppy looking roofer will have a much higher chance of doing a sloppy job. And we're talking about a roof here! A roof costs tons of money and a brand new leaky roof is something I would never want to discuss with my husband even when he has enough bran muffins to last him a lifetime! "Hey Maria, roofing is a dirty job," you might say. Yes! I agree, but a roofer shouldn't look dirty all the time! They need to take a shower and put on clean clothes and yes, having a nice haircut wouldn't hurt, because well, they don't work on the roof all the time. Plus, as I said before, how they spend their time when they are not on the roof will tell you how they will spend their time when they are on it! Last year my wife and I decided to put Solar Panels on our house. I looked at several major players. SunPower and Sunrun and decided to go with SunPower. We decided to go with SunPower and are happy with our choice. My neighbor had Solar put on their home about a year earlier and recommended Volt Modern. I did some research and found that Volt Modern has both a Solar and a Roofers License! From the moment I began working with Buck and the Volt Modern Team I was very impressed. I got all of the information I needed on how many panels I would need and the cost for the entire project. I was also informed on the NEM Plan I would be in and how PG&E would be interfacing. I was told about the Federal Tax Rebate and how that would work with the Lender I was put me in touch. Most impressive was the day of installation. It was like watching a well tuned factory with staff working on all facets of the installation at once. The entire installation was completed by 3 PM. Additionally I asked Buck to look over my roof as I had some concerns. He was able to take care of a few minor issues while on site for a reasonable cost! A few weeks later the local city inspector came out and approved the installation. We are coming up to our True Up period with PGE and it looks like the system is evenly balanced and we will either not owe any additional $$ or have a credit! I highly recommend Buck and Volt Modern! We wanted solar and also needed a new roof so it was an obvious choice to work with a company that does both services. These guys were absolutely fantastic to work with. They went above and beyond to be responsive and give good advice. Gave us good advice planning around SMUD's rules, city inspection, and maximizing the tax rebates. Did fast, clean, and precise work. Everything is running great as far as I can tell (need panel-level data to really know, which Sunpower will start providing any day now). I called Buck at Volt Modern Roofing in a panic yesterday because it was pouring rain and I had a leak coming in off my kitchen window. He was swamped of course with customer requests but he made sure his team found time to come over to help me. They were thorough in checking my entire roof and giving suggestions of things to check to prevent the leak. It was not a roof issue thankfully but I greatly appreciated them coming out to rule out my roof as we have another storm coming in this evening. Buck the owner even called the next day to ask me if my leak was fixed, even though it wasnt the roof! And he gave me useful suggestions of what do to prevent the stucco/window from leaking. After shopping around for a roofing company I spoke with Buck from Volt Modern. He got back to me right away, and was generous with his time discussing my project. My house is an historic craftsman on the main street of town, and the roof is complex. Theirs was not the cheapest quote, but you get what you pay for! This team is highly skilled and professional, and you can tell they really care about the quality of their work. They showed up on time, communicated well, and were responsive in solving special problems. For example, they provided a bat-proof screening around the ridge vent, and replaced an ugly downspout with a rain chain after I changed my mind. This project is truly a work of art! While we were discussing the roof project, Buck mentioned that Volt was getting certified to install solar systems. He got me on the schedule for a Summer installation, and provided attractive options for financing. The solar design is aesthetically appropriate and was installed with care. Volt Modern get's my recommendation for roofing. Volt installed my roof in 2019. In 2020, i had a new HVAC, installed by Kenyan and Son. In December 13, 2021, when Sacramento had a week of rain, there was a leak. I thought it was caused by Volt. I quickly reached out to Buck, the owner, and he had two of his guys come out that day and quickly fixed the leak. The leak was not caused by Volt; however, it was caused by Kenyon and Sons Inc. Volt explained to me what happened. I quickly called Chuck at Kenyan and Son. He never returned my phone call. Buck, was very nice over the phone and very understanding. Found out I had a leak in my roof as the rainy season started to hit. I was rather desperate to get someone out there, but everyone else was booked - in some cases until March. I talked to the guys at Volt and they managed to get Gaspar out the next day (on a Saturday, no less!). He quickly identified and fixed the problem with no fuss. They also recommended a maintenance sweep of the roof to clear out clogs and identify additional problems. That was done within short order and all the broken tiles are repaired.
