I normally don''t give review but felt the need to. I felt my solar system was not producing the amount of electricity that it should. I had 4 companies come out and asked them is there a problem. 2 companies quickly looked it over and said we just need to buy more panels. 1 company said here is the problem but gave me a quote but would not explain what needed to be done. Capital City Solar found the problem and explained it to me. Yes it was expensive to fix but they said they could sell me a new system but that would be wasting my money. Had several phone calls to make sure I understood the problem. They never pushed me to buy. Their installers were professional, polite and seemed to enjoy working for the company. I feel if you like working for the company it says something positive for the company. If I have another solar need I will only contact them. They are honest and did not push me to buy from them. read more

I really don't take any pleasure in leaving less than 5 Star reviews, but I felt it was important to let them know and other customers of my experience. I originally had Capital City Solar install solar panels on my home in August 2023. I was very pleased with the service and installation. Everything is working well and continues to do so. After this experience, I decided to expand my system. So I contacted Capital City Solar in September and signed a contract for an additional 7 panels. Everything was going smoothly, but I then receive a notification from the City of Roseville stating that the solar plan they designed was rejected. Just a coincidence but this also happened to be on the same day I paid them $1,000 that was due upon completion of the design. Just a terrible look. I didn't hear anything from Capital City Solar about this until I reached out to them to inquire about what was going on. Just very disappointing. Capital City Solar incorrectly calculated how much energy my expansion would be able to produce and so they came back with a four panel expansion instead of the original seven. I get it mistakes happen. I was just really disappointed with how I felt I was treated during this whole process. I always paid on time and held up my part of the deal. Unfortunately, I didn't always feel like that was reciprocated. It is what it is. I decided not to go ahead with the 4 panel partly based on how I felt I was treated. I ended up paying $2,000 for nothing Anyways, I would still recommend them to anyone interested in solar panels, and I don't doubt their sincerity. Their solar advisor, Brian, presented us with an initial plan of a system to meet our requirements and answered all of our questions. Capital City Solar's designer, Gene, was tasked with integrating our sixteen 11-year-old solar panels with the additional eleven new panels and two Tesla battery systems to give our 5400 square foot house near total independence from the PG&E power grid. His solution is working perfectly. The installation team (Clayton, Ruben, and Spencer) were experienced and efficiently managed their tasks through some substantial rain storms. Clayton has maintained our initial system since the first panel installations in 2014, and has only grown more expert in team leadership over the years. The coordination of city permits, all of the Capital City technical teams, the PG&E tasks, city inspections, and even PG&E permission to export our extra energy back to the grid for power rebates, was orchestrated by Nicole, who truly is a maestro at her job and a great communicator for her clients. Carrie kept all the paperwork straight and provided us with a complete set of documentation on our system at project completion, All we had to do as customers, was sit back and watch the magic happen. Contacted them on March 1st for solar. They set an appointment for March 7 - that is fine - everybody is so busy. However, as we got closer to the appointment, they asked for plans and other questions - that is fine. However, what came as a shock to me is that when I mentioned that PGE request had to be submitted before the Apr 14 NEM 3.0 deadline, they said that they couldn't do it. While I don't have a problem that they could not submit by NEM3.0 deadline, but that is 1st question that they should be asking a new client instead of setting up appointments, asking for plans etc. It should be common sense for a solar business to understand that anybody asking for solar before the deadline really wants their application to be in the system before NEM3.0 transition deadline. If they don't understand that, they are doing their customers a disservice. read more

I contacted three solar companies looking for one that was a Sunpower installer as sunpower equipment is the best commercially available equipment. Andy was the only rep that personally came to my house and that made all the difference having a great salesman to bounce my nearly unlimited supply of questions off of. When I decided to go with them, the install crew was on time and did end up installing it improperly, but Nicole in the office made sure to send another crew out right away and install it correctly. Highest technical competency!! Removed 10-year old solar panels installed by an out-of-business company to reveal the source of a roof leak under the panels. Other solar companies I called wouldn't touch the job: "...if we didn't install them, we won't remove them...". Ryan and Cesar had the skill and knowledge to remove inset panels they had never seen before. They left everything tidy and accessible to the roofers that will be here next week. I'm building my own system and needed some racking to mount the panels. Capital City Solar ordered it up for me and had it within a day. I was able to use my credit card, they helped me load the racks onto my car, were great about phone calls and emails with quotes and "the parts are here" notifications, and generally made buying the parts easy. They didn't try to talk me into letting them install the system, they were more like "You're installing your own system? Great, let know if there are any other parts you need." I got a look at their shop area and installers' vehicles. I was pretty impressed with the neatness and organization of both. If I wasn't installing my own system, I'd look into having them do it. Spent $36k on a SunPower system with them just over a year ago... had monitoring issues within the first 5 month. Then in the summer SunPower pushed a firmware update to the inverters without notifying the customer and did not confirm the firmware update was successful. I didn't realize my system wasn't producing for about 6 weeks, and when I did notice, it took my Capital City and SunPower an additional 6 weeks to resolve the issue. I am left with a rather larger true up bill with PG&E for the approximate 3 months my system wasn't working due to SunPower's unauthorized firmware update and poor customer service. I have asked that Sunpower compensate me for the true up charges associated with loss of production and they are claiming they fixed the system under warranty and they don't compensate for loss of production on warranty issues. This is not a warranty issue.. the loss of production is on them and there update process. Its only about $300, actual loss of production value would be significantly higher. I have spent hours dealing with there negligence, incompetency, and poor customer service. I've been dealing with this issue for 4 months... next stop is small claims court. So done with them. 5 stars for Sharonda and Lance! Whether you are looking for a new solar system or need help with an old one, I highly recommend Capital City Solar. I needed help with a 10 year old solar inverter that had failed. The original solar system installer (Old Country Roofing) used by the home builder (Elliott) was out of business. The original inverter manufacturer, Xantrex, had been bought by Schneider Electric, but they were no longer in this segment of the inverter business and had no local representatives. I called 3 local solar companies looking for help. Sharonda answered my call and was very responsive, helpful, and courteous. She laid out my options and provided a quote in less than 24 hours. Compare this to the other 2 companies: one never got back to me and the other took 4 days and 5 e-mails to basically tell me that I wasn't worth their time. Well I can say that Capital City Solar made me feel like I was worth their time. Sharonda was amazing throughout the process and kept me informed of what was going on. Whenever I had a question, and I ask a lot of questions (just ask my wife!), Sharonda got back to me within a very short time. Customer service like this is unheard of these days. I ended up getting 2 visits from Lance. Once to inspect the old inverter and the second time to install the new one. Lance was also very professional and clearly knew his stuff. Again, he answered all of my pesky questions. He did a great job with the installation. Now I have a fully functioning inverter with monitoring software. I was very happy with Capital City Solar. UPDATE (01-31-18): I met with the Director of Sales that has decided to take over my account. Unfortunately, it took a notification to the business from a bad Yelp review for them to react. Several emails sent with owner and admin assistant copied didn't do anything to prompt a response. In fact, the situation I faced didn't get noticed until the Yelp review. I had my previous questions answered and also assured that internal changes were made so other customers would not face what I faced. It is of little assurance to me as I went through the ordeal and I won't be a benefactor of such changes. I can only comment on my personal experience. I was asked if it were okay for me to change my review, which also doesn't sit well with me. Was the meeting held to convince me to change my review? Was the meeting due to true concerns for me as the customer? From my experience, it is easy to see my skepticism and I cannot all of a sudden give 5 stars. I gave an extra star for the effort, but, I will hold off on improving to more stars until I see that the concern is genuine if/when future issues arise and I need help. The below original review is my experience in detail of everything that happened and I hope it helps future consumers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wanted to give this company a good review and rating. Saw all the positive reviews and experiences from others on here. My experience was middle of the road and probably not any better than if I had gone with the company that sat across the street from me. It's a decision I regret. The sales pitch sounded good and the sales person came to my house. Several other companies did the same. The process was relatively smooth where Capital City took care of any city permits and HOA applications and approvals. They explained finance options well and helped me through that process to. Where they struggled and began to make it not so smooth was on the day of install. I stayed home from work so I can be there for whatever reason they would need me. The foreman of the group told me that the city inspector was scheduled to arrive at 10am on the day of my install. He gave me some papers and said I had the option to sign or not sign. I was never told by the foreman that signing the papers would allow me to not be present when the inspector arrived. He said it gave the option for my smoke detectors to be inspected. I didn't sign cause hey, I guess it's nice to have my smoke detectors inspected by the city inspector. I had an errand to run early in the morning and asked the foreman if I could leave. I told him I'd be back before 10am to meet with inspector. I ran my errand and returned home at 9:45am. Should've been plenty of time, but, the inspector showed, saw I wasn't home, and left. I now had to wait until my system was signed off by the city and connected to the grid. I wasted a day of taking off for work cause the rest of the time, there was no need to be home. I was annoyed. To be fair, the owner did come out to meet the inspector later and had the inspection passed, but, it would've been nice to know 1) What would happen if the paper was not signed and 2) That the inspector would leave if I were not present, so the foreman should've warned me before I decided to leave. I didn't have to leave and could've done my errand afterward. The other misstep is happening right now. The sales person who said he would be with the project from "beginning to end". Those were his words. Unfortunately, it was just another sales person making a sales pitch and not a customer centric focused statement. After the initial visit, he all but disappeared. I was supposed to have a last meeting with him in order to explain my new bill. I believe they call this the "Commissioning Meeting". I was told at the beginning that PG&E would bill me yearly for the electricity portion of my bill. I started getting billed monthly. I have been through 2 cycles and am close to a third cycle of bills and I am yet to be met with from my Capital City Solar sales rep. Obviously, the most important aspect was the sale and not the customer for these guys. I regret that the commission goes to the my sales rep. I am part of a new community with houses still being built. Some of my neighbors have asked about where I got my solar. I will be happy to tell them to NOT go with Capital City Solar. I will be truthful about my experience with them and advise them and any other new neighbor to go with someone else. Our builders didn't give us an option for them to install solar. We do this through third party after our houses are built. I guess that's a lot of lost business opportunities for them. read more

My wife and I contracted with Capital City Solar to provide and install 23 SunPower panels onto our roof. The project was completed in December and we could not be happier or more satisfied with the outcome. We researched solar panel manufacturers and came to the conclusion that we wanted SunPower panels. We liked that both the panels and inverters were SunPower, thus any future issues fall under one company and one warranty. We also liked that SunPower's warranty will pay for materials AND labor, even if our install company is no longer around. Finally, we found that the SunPower panels output more energy per square foot, which meant more of our energy needs would be provided by our installation of solar using the space available on our roof. We met with and received proposals from 3 solar dealers, including Capital City Solar. We put Capitol City Solar on our list because of their positive reviews, and we liked that they had a full electrical contractor license, and not just the scaled back solar license. Our salesperson, Andy, was fantastic. Very professional. On time. Knowledgeable. And if he did not know an answer to a question (we had lots of questions!) he would acknowledge it, and would make a phone call to quickly get the answer. There was a bonus. At our first meeting, Andy looked over our property, including our main electrical panel, which was installed in the 1970's. He warned that our particular panel was known to be of a faulty design that had caused many issues, including fires. He recommended we replace it. Nobody else mentioned any issues about the panel and, at first, I figured he was trying to "upsell" us. But I did some checking online and, sure enough, there was a great deal of information out there detailing the faulty design of our panel, including photos showing panels that had failed and were scorched black. None of the other companies that came to our home spotted this issue, but clearly is was an issue, and I didn't know about it until Andy pointed it out. Andy with Capital City Solar got back to us with a proposal in just a few days. One of the other companies got back to us a couple weeks later and the third company took about a month to get us a proposal. We signed with Capitol City Solar and moved forward. Their planning and installation teams were fantastic. They inspected our roof in more detail and an installation plan was put together. A couple weeks later our panels were delivered and installation started. Like everyone else that we interfaced with at Capital City Solar, the install team was very professional. They knew what they were doing, communicated well with us and completed the job as planned. It passed county inspection with zero issues. Back at the home office, Erin was our go-to person if we had a question and didn't know who to reach out to. She always responded quickly and followed up to any request we had.
