I should have posted a review for Magic Touch Salon months ago when I had my last appointment here. Also just to clarify, my last experience was a 1 star worthy one, but I gave two stars because I actually liked how my hair was cut. Anywho, please do read on. My last hair stylist here really blew it. Before making an appointment, I described I wanted to have dark hair that shows blue in light. Over the phone, the stylist said yes they have a color for that and can do it, so I book the appointment. I come for my appointment, and my stylist sees me, with my natural black hair and all, and quickly seats me in a chair, asks me "you want midnight blue right?" I asked and clarify, "that will show blue in the light, right?" The stylist says yes and repeatedly says it'll show when light shines on my hair, and keeps pointing outdoors to emphasize the sunlight. Anyways, the stylist gets started on my hair, quickly puts 1 color paste into my hair, then I waited. After my hair got washed and dryed. I noticed how dark my hair is, but didn't say anything because the stylist AGAIN reassured that I would see blue in the light. After my appointment was over, I left and while getting errands done, I kept trying to get a glimpse of blue in my hair while outdoors in the sun. Nothing. I asked other people and they said my hair looks black. The next day, I go back to the salon and I let the stylist know my hair doesn't show blue, and I start asking about the color she used. She says she used what she said she was going to use, BUT then also weirdly says, "it doesn't show because your hair is black. Seriously?!? Then she says if I wanted blue to really show, she would need to bleach my hair and that my next appointment would cost around $200. She says this was all a " miscommunication" and she admits that she should have asked more questions to better understand what I wanted. She really messed up, and didn't even offer a discount to at least fix her mistakes. I am truly disappointed, and I hope this ridiculous mistake doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

Trang did my balayage+ombre and it turned out amazing! My hair has a tendency to get damaged easily and turn orange or ugly red, but she nailed it! She really took her time to make sure to get the color and cut i wanted. Very pleased with their service and the end results. I did have to go back for a quick trim today(2 days after the session) because of the damaged fizzy ends. Ming actually helped me with the trim as Trang was off, free of charge(b/c i went back within the week). My hair looks like a million bucks now! I will definitely be going back! I had a v nice lady but I kinda dislike how my hair was cut. I didnt have the heart to tell her I didnt like it since she seemed so proud. I went home n took a shower and it honestly just looks like i didnt get a haircut lol. Wasnt a horrible haircut bc i am still able to leave my house wout wanting to die. Im giving it a 3 stars bc its not a go-to salon, just average. I would say go to this salon only if you need a quick trim, not if youre trying to get it styled. Let me just say that, "I am so HAPPY I gave this place another try!" I use to come here when Cheri was still there but she moved to a salon which is closer to home for her in Brentwood. I stumbled upon Ming after reading a review about her on yelp and let's just say I am so freaking happy with the results!!! Ming is so attentive and really listens to what look you want to achieve, she will than give you her honest feedback and make suggestions but still trying to achieve the look you were going for. I went in Friday with my hair fried because a dumb salon so called hair stylist who is the owner didn't know what the heck she was doing. Ming saved my hair and used olaplex to protect my hair and bring it back to life. The shop wasn't busy when I went in because it was after the holidays and I'm so glad it wasn't because she really paid attention to me and I appreciate that. The girls there are SUPER sweet. Give them try and ask for Ming, I PROMISE you won't be disappointed. Prices are unbelievable and affordable dispite what everyone else is charging around the area. Magic Touch Salon forever ruined my hair. I came in and saw Lyana a while ago because Cheri wasn't available and she said Lyana was just as good. The process of getting my balayage was super long, but I wouldn't have minded if it turned out nice. When Lyana finished my balayage hours later, my balayage looked decent in curls and in the picture she took for me. However, when I washed my hair, it was so tangled that brushing my hair was hurting me (that's when I had a feeling that the products they used were cheap and ruined my hair). When I straightened it, it looked completely different... it looked like my hair was dipped into bleach... within a matter of only a few days, my hair no longer looked platinum blonde but it was a brassy yellow blonde. It's definitely true when they say that an ombre or balayage is only good if it looks nice when it is straightened. Yes, I understand that bleaching your hair isn't healthy and all, but I've had my hair highlighted and have had an ombre and balayage done before, prior to coming to Magic Touch Salon - with all my experiences, my hair was 1) never this brassy and 2) never this damaged. My friends who have went to other salons, and get their hair done consistently, have not dealt with issues of their hair being so damaged and nasty brassy. Not too long ago, my friend asked me about Magic Touch Salon. I told her my experience and emphasized on how that experience damaged my hair and how my hair turned brassy yellow quickly. However, I told her that I had Lyana do my hair and not Cheri so maybe it would've been different (considering that Cheri posts all these nice pics and calls herself the ombre queen). She decided to give Cheri a try because of all her nice pictures and great reviews on Yelp and Instagram. Sure enough, her experience was no different. She came out with hair dye on her skin and her hair also looked OK in curls but looked uneven and patchy when she straightened it. It basically looked like her hair was dipped in bleach (just like my experience). She also left a review and received a call from Cheri right after through a blocked number. If you're looking for a nice ombre or balayage (curled and straightened), I'd recommend doing your research and searching for a place that uses better products - pay a little more is better than having your hair damaged and brassy yellow. *This is a long, overdue review because I just started to write reviews on Yelp.* read more

Short story: Ladies, book with Cheri in advance. She's amazing! Long story: I wanted to get my balayage ombré and cut done by Cheri but my appointment wouldn't be for another month, in September. The September appointment happened to be a cancellation, otherwise she was booked until October. I kept my September appointment but looked for other salons in the meanwhile. I found other potential salons, but was hesitant to come in. I just had to get my hair done by Cheri. I decided to call and check for cancellations. She was waiting on a client to confirm. They never confirmed so I was so happy that I got to see her earlier than I expected. Add yourself to the cancellation list and you may see her sooner than later! I felt comfortable leaving my virgin hair in her hands. I wanted an ombré balayage with a caramel transition, ash blonde and platinum tips. She gave me her honest opinion on what would look best and I knew I could trust her. The whole process took about two hours but it went by quickly. She is so easy and fun to talk to. She exceeded my expectations! I'm glad I didn't go to another salon to get my hair done - her expertise and reasonable prices can't be beat. I did drive around the plaza to find Magic Touch. The salon is located near the dollar store and McDonalds, so it's better to enter the plaza from Washington Avenue. She books up to two month in advance so plan ahead. She does call to confirm and remind you about your appointment, so make sure you confirm or you'll lose your appointment. I got my haircut by Jerek and let me start off by saying he's not only amazing but hilarious as well. Honestly, I've never laughed so much with a hairdresser. Everyone raves about Cheri, though I don't color my hair and have only come here for haircuts. 1st time - Anh - 4 stars: I loved the layers she made! I told her I wanted a lot of layers, and she made them beautifully. I wish it was a little bit longer, and I thought I'd just be more clear next time 2nd time - Lan (old Vietnamese lady) - 2 stars: Do NOT get Lan if you can avoid her. I felt extremely rushed, did not really care about my hair, and I asked for a lot of layers and it looks like to be only about 2 layers. After the cut, she didn't even blow dry! I asked, "Are you not going to blow dry?" Lan, "It's dry hunny." Me, "But normally I would get it blow dried to have it styled.." So she reluctantly blow dried it, but didn't style it. She obviously was just trying to get as many customers and tip as she could get. I will never get her again and she is unfortunately giving Magic Touch a bad name. I've been trying to go blonde for a long time and have been told it's not possible and turned down... Until I came here! I heard about Magic Touch through one of my friends who's ombré is always flawless... She told me that she gets it done at Magic Touch by Cheri, but recommended Liana to me because Cheri's appointments are always booked out so far in advance. I called on a Tuesday and was able to get a saturday appointment with Liana. I couldn't wait! The salon is located in the Greenhouse shopping plaza in San Leandro, a little confusing to get to if you're not too familiar to the area but not too bad at all, just gotta keep your eyes open. I arrived to my appointment about 10 min early and Liana was finishing up another client, I left with my kids (crazy to bring them I know, but babysitter cancellation last minute happened). Anyway, had a little snack at Kasper's next door and when I came back about 15 min later, she was ready for me. I went in wanting blonde. I had no specifics, except pictures of Shakira because that's the kind of shade I wanted. Liana got the idea, recommended some colors to work with my skin tone and off we went on the blonde journey. The 4.5 hour blonde journey lol. My hair was dyed with a wash out black color over a year ago and that posed a bit of a challenge, but Liana worked her magic and it came out amazing! I am extremely happy with the outcome and will gladly recommend anyone to Liana at Magic Touch. The staff is super friendly and understanding... I unfortunately had to bring my kids with me to the salon (which I highly do NOT recommend doing, but hey.. shit happens) and they gave them some lollipops and crackers. I know it doesn't sound like much at all, but they didn't even have to offer my kids anything. That was a big plus in my book. However, I will make sure that on my touch up appointment I will have a more reliable babysitter! read more

A huge thank you to Jerek at Magic Touch Salon for getting my hair to where I've always wanted it to be. Unwilling to bleach my own hair, I had tried lightening myself at home using blonde dye. And as you can see from my pictures, it did nothing but turn my roots on top an orange brown. Jerek allowed me to text pics of my hair for an over the phone consult (other salons insisted I had to go in person for them in order for them to give me an estimate). Jerek explained the process of color correction and gave me an en estimate of how much and how long it may take. Well, it took much longer than anticipated and not because of him, but because my hair was uncooperative as hell. Jerek was patient and determined to deliver what I had asked for, and in the end deliver he did! After weeks looking at Pinterest photos of girls with ash brown hair, I am so happy that Jerek made it a reality for me. I went here from a recommendation of a friend. I booked an appointment with Jerek for a balyage at 3:30. Jerek was very friendly and really easy to talk to. He knew exactly how I wanted my hair done and it came out great. I ended up paying $165 for the hair service (without tip). That is a very good price for a balayage. I was there for 5.5 hours, but time went by so quick. I do appreciate that Jerek stayed past closing to finish my hair. I will be back for touch ups. read more

If you plan to get the same service, plan to stay for at least 2.5-3 hours. Make sure to call and book an appointment 2-3 weeks in advance. She tends to get really busy. My money is no good there, never again with this place. I didn't understand the bad reviews with a simple women's haircut and I had found out the hard way. I feel very upset since I'll be looking horendous at my interviews. The woman stationed on the left, never introduced herself, cut my hair. I told her a few inches off and a "v" shaped at the back. Low behold, she gave me layers and the layers looked like a cut a child would. After she sloppy straighten out my hair, she cuts at my layers again. She also had burned me with the hair straightener and tired to pull out a strand of my grey hair. I know my hair is difficult to manage so, with my understanding I gave her a generous tip. I'm a paying customer. Why do this? I don't want to be treated poorly so, I'll not want to take another chance with them ever. read more

I came in wanting the red ombre with caramel highlights and she kept mentioning i would not like....initially, i thought well that's what I WANT but she advised it would not last long and fade, etc and recommended something else and after much discussion i told her that i would go with what she thinks would look best....she based it on my skin tone and it came out lighter than what i wouldve asked but i received so many compliments that i guess Lyanna was right afterall! whew! She was booked thru June and I wanted something a lot sooner than that. The lady on the phone said Lyana would be available and that was totally fine with me. Honestly, I didn't have any ideas or expectations of how it would turn out going in, so she showed me several pictures of balayage highlights she has done before and knew exactly what I would feel comfortable with -- something that is pretty natural but still stands out. Cheri is really an amazing woman and is an expert when it comes to hair. I love her honest and straight-forward personality -- her prices are affordable and she doesn't push any services or products she doesn't feel necessary. Cheri has a true gift!!! Out of all the salons & stylists that I have gone to over my lifetime, this salon (and Cheri) shines the brightest. And this was only my first visit. I have to thank my sister for referring me to Cheri, because I no longer have to keep searching far and wide for someone that I can trust to take care of my hair needs. I came here trying to correct and lift my existing ombre with a new but subtle (yet noticeable) balayage color. Cheri did exactly that and much more! She listened to what I wanted to achieve, gave suggestions and advice when I felt doubtful and made me feel confident about the whole process. At the end of the appointment, I came out truly loving my hair! It's not that "love" that you say to your stylist for the sake of sparing her feelings and masking how you truly feel about it. Even at other salons She started spraying water on my hair so many times to the point where it's damped. Then she kept saying it's so tangled. No duh?!! My hair has been dyed blonde. You should know that wet blonde hair is always going to be tangled and what not. Then she though spraying some type of oil spray thinking it will help but no it didn't.. In the end I left the salon with uneven choppy short and wet hair.. she barely bother to dry my hair completely.. she dried it for 5 min and stopped. This was not worth $18!! Jerek, my hair stylist, was very diligent and worked overtime to make sure my hair color was what I was looking for (a warm, caramel balayage) even after an initial hair dye mishap while he was helping me. I believe this was one of the few times he helped someone with dark, thick Asian hair, because when he initially rinsed out the toner he used, I had straw-colored yellow hair color (aka the color of a bleach job gone bad.) I was very alarmed when I first saw the results. He recognized that he use the wrong toner for my hair type, apologized profusely, and worked hard to adjust the color to a shade that I wanted. I was very impressed by his humility and his professionalism. He has a good sense of what quality customer service is about, which is so so so important in a service oriented business.
