Please read this to the end. I am an Uber driver. I picked up a passenger. Let's call him Clifton, to drive to the McGruder eye Institute for eye surgery. Cliff told me that the original driver - not Uber - sent to pick him up never showed. Then an Uber driver showed up but drove off. I was the third driver. All were arranged by his insurance carrier Wellcare. When I took him to the eye Institute, he was very concerned that he needed someone to stay with him. I agreed to do so even though I am an Uber driver. I assumed that once he was checked in, I would be finished. We waited between 30 and 45 minutes to be called to be checked in. It took so long that after 15 or 20 minutes I left re-park my car in an actual parking place. Because I was convinced they did not really need me to stay I started to leave but Clifton became upset; pulled out a lot of bills and offered to pay me to stay with him. I told him to put the money away and that I would stay as long as I was required. I again assumed that once he was finally checked in my duties would be over. When we were finally checked in the lady made clear that he would not be operated on unless I stayed with him during the surgery and indeed required me to sign a document agreeing to do so. Despite being a retired attorney, I knew how upset Clifton would be if the surgery did not go forward. He was a nervous wreck during the entire car ride, although he was trying to be friendly, polite, and talkative. My question is: how did the McGruder eye Institute and or his insurance carrier - Wellcare - allow a situation to develop where he was scheduled for and went to surgery without a person to sit with him and drive him back home after the surgery? I was so amazed about this situation that I briefly texted my three daughters to tell them about it. I expected my lawyer daughter to be upset with me for signing something agreeing to be this Uber passengers caretaker, and get him home safely. I am sitting in the waiting room as I dictate this waiting for Clifton to come out of surgery so that I can drive him home. Whether I will even do that as an Uber driver, or simply as his friend and signed caretaker, remains to be seen. When I left to go to the waiting room, he was third in line for surgery so that I'm expected to be here for another hour and a half minimum and then need to drive him home. Doing this required me to cancel a reservation with an Uber passenger I had for 3:15 PM. I have no idea whether I'll be available at 3:15 PM. I am happy to assist Clifton. I am outraged at the situation He and I were placed in by the McGruder eye Institute, Dr. Beneke, and Wellcare. Something needs to be done about this. This is unacceptable; ridiculous; outrageous; and every other negative word you can use to describe it. This cannot be a unique situation. Hopefully someone will bring a class action so that patients (and Uber/Lyft drivers) are not placed in this position again. read more

Time for my annual eye exam (yay me). This location was a pain to find. The signage was hard to find. This location is tucked away on the side of the shopping center near the Sprouts. I checked in and was greeted with a 45 minute wait with two people ahead of me. The wait room is spacious at least, so the other two people waiting weren't crowded around me. The doctor was nice, and everything went smooth. Besides the longer wait, everything was good. The receptionist was very nice and kept me updated on my spot in queue. I would come back. read more

I live in an area where phone service, at times, is poor. Voices fade in and out and is impossible to understand a conversation. I've attempted calling when there is good signal, but am placed on hold forever or they want to call back. Therefore, I have attempted several times to schedule appointments for myself and my husband using their website. I have NEVER received an email, phone call, message. I can receive calls, it's just I never know when it's going to cut out. Don't offer online appointments if you're not going to follow through. read more

I have an eye Infection so made an appointment for 2 o'clock 3/25. I live a hour away. Traffic was horrible . I was running a few minutes late so I tried to call the office, was on hold for 15 minutes, no one ever answered. I arrived 15 minutes late. The girl at the desk said my appointment was cancelled due to being 15 minutes late, and they tried calling me several times. I showed her my phone where no one tried to call me. She said that was not her fault. she Did not try to help the situation at all. That's the rules and that's it. Well needles to say I will not be back nor recommend them. I have nothing against the Drs because I never met them. But the staff needs help in customer relations. read more

I have requested a statement form them for an bill they keep sending by mail and text messages which started nine months after my last appointment. I called billing twice, they continue to say a statement with explanation of the charges was emailed or will be emailed, I never received a statement or an email. I called the number in the last text they sent, was put on hold for 30 minutes before the line disconnected. Agent called today and said they can't provide a statement explaining what the charges are for. They are very unprofessional in my opinion. read more

I took my uncle here several times and always had a sub-par experience. Always had very long wait times, doctors and staff with seemingly no bedside manner and the last straw was when they did a surgery on my uncle and he had complications so he had a follow up appointment to address his problems and they wouldn't see him saying they didn't have insurance approval from the Va. while we were there we called the Va and they said it was authorized but the office wouldn't see him even though they had seen him several times before and this was a follow up due to complications from the surgery he just had there. So he had red swollen itchy painful eyes directly due to an allergy to the post surgical meds they prescribed but would not see him to address it. He ended up in the er twice for this issue Dr planchard and Dr beneke both were not pleasant. And the front desk lady with the giant eyelashes could not think outside the box to help us. Getting a hold of them is ridiculous, they never pick up the phone so if you need to make/change an appointment or have any questions, you might as well drive up and make it in person cause they'll never pick up the phone. Their phones are just decorative. read more

No one picking up the phone to set an appointment. Waiting an entire hour. This seems very strange to me for such a small office.

I have used this location in the past with ok results however for the last few years it is almost impossible to get them to answer their phone to make an appointment. Optical Eyeland answers right away. Good luck! read more

I don't have time to leave reviews, so when I do, I've ether been made extremely happy or the opposite. In this case it's the opposite. I've had the same prescription for a while now and I've used dailies for YEARS. So when I got my last batch and the packaging was different, I didn't think anything of it because the company and name were the same. I had my appointment in September 2022 but had to go to another location because the optometrist by my house was on maternity leave. Not a problem, except for the inconvenient 45 minute drive as opposed to the 5 minute one. Since I wanted to order and pick them up at the location close to my house, I went in a week later and ordered my contacts. No one ever called. I had enough stocked up that it didn't bother me so when I was getting low, I finally went over to pick them up. The first lady could not find them. so I had to wait till the other lady came back from lunch so she could find them. The next day we were set to go out of town. I put a contact in and realized I couldn't see to drive. I put another contact in. It, too, was extremely blurry. I thought to myself, must be a bad batch? Here's where it goes badly.... I called and the receptionist said I would have to do a re-check since it was September and I would have to drive all the way back to the other doctor. I said that's not very convenient if they both work for the same company can I just have a recheck here? On top of that I don't think I need a recheck. It's the same prescription. I think I need a different box. Her reply was they don't refund boxes that have been opened. How in the world would we know that it's a bad box unless we open it and use them and they don't work? Extremely terrible customer service. I let her know. I will have to find another eye doctor and company to spend my money with. She politely said OK, I understand. Looks like the company doesn't intend on trying to keep customers as patients if they don't like defective hardware. read more

This front desk is well organized on running there traffic through easily , the timing on the test that are needed are being done runs so smoothly. If I could leave zero stars I would. This is going to be a very long review. My mother had cataract surgery in October, surgeon completely botched the surgery. My mother has been without glasses for over three months. My father is disabled and it's been very hard for her to take care of him when she can't see. Not only was she not able to get a custom lens, her vision is worse than when she started. To top it off, their entire staff is rude, rude, rude! From the front desk to the techs and especially the doctor. No consideration for a botched surgery that left my mother with very poor vision not to mention the months of pain she was in. Had to see the retinal specialist, which she had to pay for. Run, run for your life, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. If I thought suing them would do any good, we would. read more

My mother had an appointment at the Apopka location today. I went to the front desk and one of the receptionist asked if I had an appointment, and to sign in on the sheet provided. I did that and patiently waited for about twenty minutes, at which time I asked how much longer before my mother would be called. At that point, one of the receptionists informed me that my mother's appointment had been canceled, and that they had notified me by text. I challenged her as to date and phone number, and sure enough they had not texted my number which I clearly gave at the time of making appointment. Instead they sent the text to an old number on file from five or so years ago! To make matters worse, one of the two had crossed my mother's name off the sign in sheet, and of course, neither could give an explanation as to why! My comment was " so should we have just sat in the lobby until the office closed before someone would tell us anything. When I asked why was the appointment canceled, her response was the doctor is scaling back and would I like to reschedule? Really!!. I asked to speak to the office manager, there is none!. I know this review is long, but I was very disappointed and mad at the indifference of the front desk staff. I will NEVER return to that place!! read more

Trying to contact this place by phone is practically impossible. I've been trying for 2 days to contact them and all I get is endless music and the lady with a British accent telling me how special and important I am. I have given up and made an appointment at another place. I wanted to stay here since they have my reccords but it's not worth the aggravation. Overall it's probably a good decision. Their office is like a cattle ranch. Full waiting room, herding you from room to room then out the door. I had no problem making an appointment at essential eye Care and optical which is practically across the street. I will leave a review for them after my visit. read more

The worst customer service ever. Whatever this institute is using for scheduling is the worst. 1st - You are not a human being, they don't care about your name, your issue, your DOB, or anything. They are only concerned about your insurance. Though you may have a referral approval, which I had in my hand, they still won't help you and insist on you sending information to them that communication you've received clearly states has been received by them. I don't care how successful a company becomes, they should realize they didn't do it and can't continue it without the customer. This company cares nothing about the customer. It took me 3 days and countless hours on the phone to get someone to assist me. And they transfer from one voicemail to another, to another, to another, to another. I had to go lay down after working with Magruder. An employee Christine had the nerve to tell me they were very busy It was the beginning of the week...When asked about what about the previous week she told me we have a lot of customers. This clearly represents that none of us are important. Never an apology for inconvenience, no options to assist just telling me over, and over how unimportant I am to Magruder. Exceptionally thorough eye exam, personable service by tech, outstanding service and selection of frames in optical. Dr. Glass O.D.'s professionalism and care was greatly appreciated by me and my family yesterday. Annual eye exam for three of us, and for me, also treated for Dry Eye Disease with a BlephEx+Expression procedure (eyelid cleaning and extraction of glands). Dr. Glass took her time with each of us; we did not feel rushed to be passed on to a tech, and demonstrated care (explained procedure, discussed health of eyes) throughout the moments we were there. Exited the exam and worked with a very helpful Optician (Bria) to select frames and lenses (great selection of each). Highly recommend both the practice and the optical- best visit for our eyes in a very long time. read more

A few days ago I popped in without an appointment and Wydalis was quick to say no problem. She took the sunglasses back, found the right screw and cleaned them. Seems simple but Wydalis doesn't know how much it meant to me but I want her to know now. They were sunglasses that belonged to my baby brother who recently passed away. I hate getting my eyes checked but I was way over due. Macgruder Eye Institute is among the providers listed on my insurance & is located close to me so I made an appointment for an exam. It was pretty quick getting an appointment & the receptionist was able to set me with something that worked with my schedule. I was the first appointment after their office lunch break so there was no waiting. The receptionist asked me a few questions about insurance, etc. & then the technician took me back immediately. She did some basics tests on my eyes & asked me all the necessary health question Dr. Glass came in to do the eye exam sharply after that. I have to say it was the best exam I've ever had! I hate eye exams because by the time I've finished looking at all the different views my eyes are so irritated. But Dr. Glass made quick work of examining my eyes & getting my prescription corrected. After that I was taken out to chose my frames. They have a nice selection of designer frames as well as economically priced frames. I found a couple of nice looking frames that were bit priced under $150 each. The technician available was very helpful in assisting me in choosing frames that looked good on me. I haven't picked up my glasses yet but the quality of customer service is a definite plus & the doctor is great! Definitely will use them in the future for my eyeglass needs. read more

I had an appointment for this yellow bubble and redness on my eye that's been there 3 months. I took off work (which I don't have days off left now) to go to the eye doc and I showed up And they said the appointment was canceled. They tried calling me but it went to voicemail. They said they weren't allowed to leave a voicemail to cancel an appointment. But no one tried to call back again. So I show up today to a canceled appointment. The lady basically told me to go f myself when I was upset that they didn't try and contact me again after the first time. She said she had better things to do then call me multiple times. read more

My fiancé has had a horrible eye infection that was ongoing before moving to Florida. She made an appointment with this facility 2 months in advance. She is only provided a limited amount of sick days at her job, and today was one of her selected sick days. She arrives and was told the provider decided to step out and would have to wait another month. No offerings to fit her in or anything. Piss poor service. Do not come here! read more

I had waited 6 mos for my appt. I showed up on time checked in Dr. was a no show of course the receptionist said they called me on Nov 26th to cancel which is far from the truth. My appt was for dec 4th and I received a conformation call on the Dec 3rd for my appt. I would not recommend this place as a lot of other reviews state the same problem with their ability to keep appts. read more

Hours of operation are not convenient only open Mon - Fri until 5 pm closed on weekends. Hours posted are not accurate for optical store. I went to pick up my glasses at 3pm today and although it says they close at 5 pm it was already closed. ( they had a half day scheduled but didnt leave that little tidbit on the pick up message for me) Now I have to wait another week for a day off to get them. Won't use them again. I would give them 0 starts if possible. I had an appointment I took off work for, showed up just to be told it was canceled. They apparently tried calling me but no message was left. So they tried once and figured that was their best shot. The lady at the front office rolled her eyes and shrugged her shoulders the entire conversation. I have never met such a rude person in my entire life. No apologies or anything. It was an urgent medical appointment as well not just a routine check up - which you would think more of a reason to get ahold of me to tell me it was canceled. Horrible service. My daughter waited a month for her appointment for a serious eye condition that needed to be checked out by a specialist. Fast forward a month and she shows up on her only day off and they told her the doctor was out and that she would need to wait another month. Don't waste your time. read more

Wow let me just start and say this place is a blessing. their enthusiasm is great. They have a nice place and the people are all nice there. right when I walked in i was greeted with such kindness. I felt so welcome. Its better than most practices.
