Mary's Taco fans, I finally found Good Mexican food in Boerne. I had the 3 combo- enchiladas, taco and chili relleno- served with rice and beans. Not a fan of the relleno but the taco and enchilada was the bomb! The chips were fresh and the green salsa served in a ketchup bottle were awesome. The tortillas are a little better at Mary's,(but they only do breakfast tacos) and the relleno's breading was weird but I will be back for everything else! I don't know about the other review that mention service, but mine was excellent! read more

Boerne Mexican Food! Free chips and salsa! This place is a small Mexican diner, located right on Main Street, right next door to the BBQ place. The menu is quite extensive! They've got a long list of Tex-Mex and more authentic Mexican plates, with a Tex-Mex flair. I got the carne in colorado sauce- pork cubes, in a deep red spicy and earthy chile sauce. It was served with piping hot fresh tortillas, and beans that were on the pretty runny side. They have a quaint interior, with a homey feel to it. Dig the George Strait portrait in the corner! They've got all kinds of weird stuff hanging on the wall, Vicente Fernandez portraits, sombreros, stuff from a barn. The place was quite clean, and had really original decor that just screamed Tex-Mex, with a heavy focus on the "Tex." The service was amazing! They were really on the ball, checking on customers with over the top service that was fantastic- the level of service that I'd expect at some 5 star restaurant. It was really great service! If there was a half star I would give them that because the only thing that was good was the homemade tortillas. We ordered queso ranchero (velveta and rotel) waited 30 minutes for it and it came out room temperature. We had the beef fajitas which had absolutely no flavor. They charge extra for sour cream, cheese and Re fried beans. The meal came with barracho beans but my daughter wanted refried. It was super busy and I'm not sure why! We asked our waiter what the best thing on the menu was he said cheese enchiladas. If that is the most exciting item on the menu, that's bad! Wow so many bad reviews. I have been going to this cafe when I'm in Boerne with my daughter and it's one of the best in Boerne for Mexican food. Not everyone can cook good Mexican food especially in Boerne. I will continue to come back everyone has always been nice and courteous to us. Loved their tripas by the way. read more

Honestly some of the best food and service in the area. They treat you great at every point of the day and all do them are hard workers. Food tastes great and it's a price you cannot beat. Best Mexican food I have found in Texas. I'm from Colorado and this is the closest thing to the Mexican food I grew up. Enchiladas are covered in red chili instead of queso. The beans and rice are delicious. The Mexican plate is my favorite because I can never decide what to order. Tacos are so good. Just wish they were open 7 days a week because I seem to always crave it when they are closed. It's also great for ordering to go since it can get busy sometimes and you have to wait for a table. read more

Best breakfast tacos in town! Definitely a must when we're in Boerne. Parking is a little tight, but you can make it work. It's not a dirty place. It's an older, country town restaurant with charm. It is, however, almost always crowded for taco reasons. read more

first of all this place is filthy dirty. the bathroom looked like the worst gas station bathroom. My husband said the men's bathroom sink was black with filth. One of the waiters has a big bushy beard which was uncovered and i was glad he didn't wait on our table. The food was average. The ground beef in my chile rellenos had no flavor and was swimming in grease. The chips they brought us when we arrived were stale. No salsa with the chips, only 2 squeeze bottles of red and green runny sauces. For God's sake, Boerne, get some decent restaurants!! read more

I only go to Mague's every three years or so, because that's how long it takes me to forget the last experience. Note seventeen one star reviews below that are "not recommended." Tonight, we ordered take out, five items. They said 10 minutes, I gave them 20. Then proceeded to wait. 45 minutes later, they finally rang up my take out and charged me a very large sum, which I questioned. Turns out, of the five items ordered, four of them were the wrong item, or the wrong number. They said "our phone isn't very good." Musical chairs ensued. I never got my green chicken enchiladas with sour cream, but I finally just capitulated and said "please, just put something in my bag!" The food was mediocre, the enchiladas had eight or nine sharp bone parts that had to be sorted. All in all, a typical Mague's experience. See you again in 2020. read more

I have always been partial to of Mague's food, but just their food. The service has always been horrendous and the family that owns it has never been known to be anything other than rude. After our last trip to Boerne over the holidays, this family will never get another dime of my money. We had a large group with several babies and small children. My husband went inside to see how long the wait would be and one of the sisters who is usually at the counter told him to just grab some tables and put them together. He started doing that, we unloaded all of the kids and just as we were sitting down the oldest sister in the family (the rudest and most impolite of them all) came over and told us we couldn't sit there. We asked why and she said that the table was for someone else. After we explained that we were told to take this table she basically implied that we were lying and said that the miscommunication between herself and her sister was not her problem, pointed to the door and told us to have a good day. We were all amazed at her complete lack of professionalism and courtesy. My family has been dining here for over 10 years and while their service has always been pathetic, they've never been blatantly ugly. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area with much better service and equivalent food that we will be taking our business to in the future. Quite frankly, I would rather load of my kids and make the drive to San Antonio for good food than ever eat here again. read more

First time today as recommended by some friends. Food was good. Ordered tacos and machacado with menudo to go.. Service not so good. One waitress super rude with attitude.. my husband asked her where was our order to go but apparently she was not the one that took our order . With masks is hard to see who is who.. so instead of politely saying it's not me but let me find out.. she went off .. so of course my husband was upset.. Let's put it this way: whenever I'm in SA for the weekend, I drive the 20-30 min. to Boerne on Sunday to eat breakfast here. Hands down the best pico I've encountered and their tortillas are hard to beat. They're thick unlike most places, and usually very soft. Great for their breakfast tacos or for cleaning up your plate of huevos rancheros :) Honestly, one of my most difficult decisions is picking what I want for breakfast. Prices are pretty darn reasonable ($4 - $6 will fill you up right) too. Best things to get are huevos rancheros (can order with a corn tortilla under them, which is awesome), chorizo con huevos (not greasy like other chorizo dishes I've had elsewhere), chilaquiles, and breakfast tacos. In case you missed it in the above paragraph: get the pico! Beware though, it can be hot (varies each time). Bacon and a side of potatoes (order them crispy) can help if you're really hungry. As others have stated, you don't go here for an amazing waitstaff or for a fine dining experience. Service can be slow (usually because it's super busy) and it can be very packed. Any wait is completely worth it. The restaurant is a completely family owned and operated establishment. If you go there regularly like I do, you'll notice a lot of regulars there too :) FYI, I only go here for breakfast, so that's what my rating is for. UPDATE (11/15/09): I've been informed that prices have risen, but by how much I am not sure. It's to be expected these days, but it won't deter me :) Just wanted to note that my $4-$6 may now be more like $5-$7. read more

This is the place where the locals come for breakfast and lunch. If you are not local you'll probably drive right past it and never look back. After 9 years I consider myself a local and like to drop for lunch now and then. The best feature is their flour tortillas. I never had better. Naturally, tacos become a popular choice of mine. The rest of the food is just regular good cheap Mexican stuff: enchiladas, fajitas, etc. But it's all authentic. You won't find tex-mex innovations such as chicken tortilla soup here. Yet another disappointing "Mexican" restaurant. Geez. Place was packed with nary a parking spot outside on a steamy hot Saturday. It's an odd hodge-podge of décor with dusty items on shelves, tacky posters, and empty beer bottle stacked precariously on a cooler. Smack dab in the middle of the place sitting on a table are Mexican baked goods and do-it-yourself iced tea. That's odd, doncha think? Hostess/server was disinterested, discourteous, and not helpful in any way. Chips tasted stale and oily, with little flavor. Salsa was quite tasty (that was the highlight, folks). This is my first time here. I was looking for a place that served menudo and this place came up. I am not disappointed at all. The tortillas both corn and flour are homemade. I ordered a potatoes and chorizo taco, a barbacoa taco, and menudo. I did ask for more hominy than men I do and as usual got more menu do than hominy. But the food was all oh so delicious. i just wanted to inform for those who enjoy magues restaurant the service is horrible bad attitudes from the two women that work there my experience this evening was horrible we were rushed When ordering our food took long to come out we were spoken and Treated like we were 5yr olds. when it came time to pay the lady with the short hair was the one at the register I simply asked "was there a reason why we were treated so rudely by the staff" immediately she started raising her voice and to the point as I'm walking Out with my daughter and niece they follow us outside taunting us wanting to fight with my children present and said we are no longer welcome back. as customers we should have not been treated this way, just wanted to let everyone know how they treat customers. Mague's is my favorite breakfast place in Boerne. For less than $4.00, you can get a great huevos ranchero breakfast served with potatoes and your choice of bacon or sausage. Their beans are divine, creamy and perfectly seasoned. AND the handmade tortillas served with the meal are brought to the table right off the griddle and would bring in 4 stars alone. The food far makes up for the small over crowded restaurant and slow service. Or I should say, the service is slow because the place is always packed. There have been times when you cannot even get a parking spot. But if you are persistent, you will be rewarded with a great Mexican breakfast. BTW, their dinners are equally as good but since I just come to Texas for visits now, I still have to go to Mi Terra or El Rio for dinner. Updated May 25 (because I can change my mind): I was blinded by the price and did not fairly review Mague's. Therefore, I have taken one star away as the husband reminded of several things. The most important being that the huevos rancheros are really eggs over medium (requested) and a side of beans. A great prices at $2.95; you then add your sides of potatoes and meat choices for another $1.00 or so more. A good meal, still my favorite breakfast spot in Boerne but not the same caliber as other places I have reviewed in the same category. read more

as a local, i LOVE magues! i've grown up on it, going every week with the family and then in high school meeting up with friends there. when i go back home, ive got to go to magues for the breakfast tacos atleast one morning. however, if you arent a local, dont be surprised if you hate it. the service is definitely not to par, and the food from what i hear from my friends from out of town ive taken there, isnt anything special. if you go at any normal eating time, expect to wait (small area and only a couple tables able to seat more than 4 people) and id suggest knowing what you want the first time they come by, because it might be a good 30 minutes before you have to go grab a server to come and take your order. or better yet, call in your order and just pick it up! dont have to worry about the crowded-ness, noise, not so great service, etc! oh and the sweet tea -- definitely the best. We were visiting Boerne for the weekend and thought we would try this place out since it had 4 stars and we were thoroughly pleased. Pleased enough we ate there twice. It is somewhat dirty, the "linen" tablecloths are not often washed as there is red/green sauce spilt down them and the decor is dusty and the floors full of broken chips, etc. Seat yourself service can get awkward and the service was sporadic. One evening it was great but on Sunday afternoon it was messy. The chips & salsa situation is not your typical, basket of chips, bowl of salsa type deal. They have two sauces (red & green) in squirt bottles and half baskets of poor quality chips - I guess you're supposed to squirt as you go - or that's what we did. The food was great - after reading recommendations we tried the following dishes - huevos rancheros, quesadilla, beef fajita taco, chorizo and egg taco, sausage and egg taco. Huevos rancheros were some of the best I've ever had, the quesadilla (which is a single tortilla with white cheese, grilled) was out of this world. Prices are cheap. Coming from Houston we were quite shocked to have 3 beers each and a full meal we couldn't finish for $33. On one of our visits the Barbacoa taco was ordered by two different people and the verdict was not good on those. Give it a whirl if you make it to Borne, the locals seem to love this place and I would go back given the chance. read more

Came here a few weeks ago, i felt like writing what happened here because it still bothers me that this restaurants servers are allowed to treat customers horribly. Our server was great, but a guy named Moses dropped off our food, my grandma asked for a milder hot sauce, he didn't answer right away so my fiancé assumed he didn't hear us, so he repeats what she said, this Moses guy goes "give me a fucking minute, my hands are full", walks off and never returns. Took everything in me not to go off on that dude. Been coming here for a while, I've always ignored the rude service but this tops it.
