Have ordered a handful of times from this place hoping each time will be better. Their sushi is not bad but every time I have ordered they tell me "25-30 minutes" on the phone. I usually wait about 30 minutes before driving down there, and then I get there and I AM STILL WAITING. Multiple times I have waited over an hour after ordering takeout and being told it will only take 25 minutes. Atleast Ichie go Ichie gives you an accurate wait time. It's ridiculous. I'm really surprised by the bad reviews, and glad I'm finally leaving a review. My husband and I moved to Franklin two years ago, and we started exploring Yelp looking for a new sushi restaurant. We tried all the highly rated ones, and were disappointed by all of them, which led us to Maguro House. The sushi is always really fresh, avocado salmon rolls are always delicious as are the scallop and salmon nigiri. We started ordering takeout almost weekly at one point, and are always happy with everything, including the seaweed salad, pork dumpling soup and the spicy miso soup. If you're looking for fresh sushi, this place is great. If you're looking for teriyaki or noodle dishes, maybe you're better off going to the bland teppenyaki places around Franklin and Medway. read more

She stated we should have ordered it well done if we wanted it cooked more. After going back and forth several times, I informed her I would not be paying for the dangerously undercooked food. We were glad to see a Japanese restaurant in downtown Franklin. Prior to Maguro House, a quick night out for some good sushi just wasn't possible in town. This was our first visit and overall we were happy. My wife and I ordered from the Combination Entrees. I had the Tekka Dinner, which is sliced tuna over a bed of rice. The portion size was generous and the tuna was fresh and served at the correct temperature. My wife had the Maki Combo II, which came with spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll, and yellowtail roll. These were also very good. Both meals came with a bowl of miso (good) and a salad (simple salad, not memorable). Our kids both had children's bento boxes, which they enjoyed. We'll be back to try the Nigiri and explore some other menu options. Glad to see something worth supporting in Franklin's downtown revitalization. read more

I'm not sure what this restaurant was like before a few months ago, but I moved to Franklin in September of 2012, and I've had a positive dining experience (or take-out experience) twice a week ever since. The service is reasonably quick and always friendly. The prices are LOW. The quality, while not top notch, is above average, especially considering the lunch prices. For dinner, there are a lot of options. But to get two tasty rolls and a bowl of miso soup for $8? Good luck finding that elsewhere. They also have some fun specialty rolls. I recommend the Tropical Roll when trying their specialty selection. Their menu leans more toward cooked fished and other new age stuff (cream cheese, spicy mayo), but so has almost every other Japanese restaurant I've visited in the last ten years. I came here for a weekday lunch with my colleague. We were the only ones there, so the service was super quick but I can't speak to how fast the service is when it's busy. The hostess/waitress was very friendly and attentive and always kept our glasses filled and our plates cleared. Some reviewers from a couple years back complained about being charged for green tea; they did not charge us so maybe they have changed this. We got the Shumai and the Creamy Crab Dumplings for appetizers, both of which were delicious. The sauce that comes with the shumai was great and we were dipping the dumplings (which were like crab ragoon but more crab and less cream) into it. I liked that the dumplings were reminiscent of tempura in that they were not greasy at all. We both got the second lunch special, which is miso soup and 2 maki rolls. The miso soup actually came out before the appetizers and was hot and flavorful as you would expect it to be. We both chose the yummy roll and she got the spicy yellowtail roll for her second while I got the Mexican roll. We were both happy with all three types, especially the yummy roll, and for $7.95 it's a great deal with a good sized portion. We spent $34 with tip and were both full, I even took four pieces of sushi home with me. You could easily skip the appetizers, pay $10 with tip for lunch, and be happy. Overall I would recommend this place, especially for a quick and cheap weekday meal. read more

We ordered takeout. This was totally fine. Nothing amazing. The fish was good on the nigiri, but the rice was abysmal. It was overcooked and over seasoned. The fish in the spicy tuna and salmon rolls didn't taste as fresh as the nigiri. The appetizers we got were also fine. Nothing really stood out. Also, the person at the front had no idea that there was an online order. I had ordered like 45 minutes before I showed up. They had some of the kitchen order in a bag and then they did work quickly to get the sushi order out. They forgot the miso soup, but that's not a deal breaker. Pleasantly surprised. I've had sushi from plenty of places and the quality is good enough to earn more of my business. In some parts I agree with other reviews. Not the best sushi I've ever had, but certainly not the worst, by a long shot. The wait was long, but no longer than other places of the same fare. I'll wait for good sushi, and for the most part, it was good. We went off hours, late lunch. The dining area was empty. There was one waitress having lunch at the sushi bar. This is my biggest gripe, I know people have to eat, but don't seat us with a front row view of you finishing your lunch. Beyond that, the wait staff did their job just fine. Though remember, the dining area was empty. Really after that, things got better. The rolls were delicious. The spicy tuna was very flavorful. I was less impressed with the quality of the sashimi. The taste was fine, the consistency was not. But again, not bad enough for me to not give it another try. For me this feels like a new restaurant that needs a little more shake down on some aspects. I hope people are willing to give it more time. I blame the owner or manager for not staffing with at least one other wait person. You need someone who can attend to customers in a timely manner. first time here, got take-out for lunch. we ordered 4 orders of the CAA maki (mk06 @ $3.95 per order) and it was just right! obviously very simple roll (couple of veggies and rice) but it was freshly made (he was finishing up my order as i walked in the door) and it was quite tasty! the other person i ordered with had never had sushi, and was very surprised and delighted. i will return here for dinner at some point and re-review! Me and my boyfriend come here at least twice a month because it is the best sushi with a cheap cost in town. Comparing it to other places around Franklin, I guarantee that Maguro House has the most fresh sushi. We go on Saturdays to be waited on by a very friendly waitress who knows our order by heart. I've only eaten that yaki udon noodle dishes, steak and chicken, so far but found them to be fresh and delicious. After an hour and 10 minutes we got our food and that's when we were informed they were out of one of the ingredients for one if our rolls! Mind you we also had 2 small children with us! Japanese food is my favorite type of food and I was very excited to try Maguro House out for the first time. However the excitement died off soon after we got there. It was a Friday night and they only had one waitress there who was also acting as a host and takeout specialist. It took a very long time to get waited on and we were the only ones in the restaurant. The food came out quickly, I ordered dumpling ramen noodles, by the time I started eating it, it was cold and tasted very eggy. For dessert I ordered mochi, which was store bought mochi. If you ever been to a good Japanese restaurant, they make the mochi in house and it is a very tasty dessert the size of your palm. However Maguro House sent out frozen cold, impossible to cut or bite into mochi the size of two thumbs. I do not plan on going back. read more

Despite the fact that others here have complained about slow service, our family of four decided to give Maguro House a try. We arrived at about 6:30 on a Friday night. They were busy, but there were still empty tables. The hostess seated us, and gave us menus. Then we waited. And we waited. And we waited. 5 minutes. 10 minutes. 15 minutes. No one even so much as came up to welcome us or ask us if we wanted water. Nothing. When we first sat down it appeared that the table next to us was just finishing up. However, as we sat and waited it began to be apparent that something was upsetting them, too. Then one of the people at the table got up and called out to the waitress that they couldn't wait any longer - please cancel the rest of their order and bring them the check. That was enough for us. We got up and left. Maguro House may have fantastic food, or they may have lousy food - I couldn't say since we never got any. I REALLY like to support local businesses and see them flourish - but if they can't figure out a way to improve their service I don't see how they're going to make it. read more

Service terrible. All food came at once. We watched sushi sit for about ten minutes. Sushi with tempura doesn't hold up when it sits for too long. Servers were busy laughing together rather than check back. Water glasses empty, had to ask for check. Decent sushi with awful service. I, having severe allergies started the meal by ordering a bubble tea which I was told had dairy in it (one of my allergies) so the ice cream was kindly removed from the drink. Later when I ordered my sushi, a Red Sox roll, I was not informed that it came with a spicy mayo garnish, having known about allergies, the server did not think to check this by with me. When the roll was brought out the mistake was quickly spotted by our party and was sent back and asked to be remade with out the mayo because of a severe allergy. The roll was brought back to the kitchen and came back moments later. Not only had the roll not been remade, the mayo was simply wiped off the plate and was left on the roll. This was not spotted by the server, and if it was, it was ignored. This left the roll untouchable and when the bill arrived, the roll was still on the bill so we had to ask the server to take the roll off the check which she did but in retrospect the entire bill should have been comped. read more

One day while riding my bike I noticed this restaurant and just the other day decided to check it out. My mom, brother, and I went there and the food was FANTASTIC! Now, my experience with sushi is limited to the california rolls at the supermarket but the food really did stand out. So far I have tried their california rolls, cucumber/asparagus/avocado maki, miso soup, Ebi soup, and smoked salmon (not sure what type of roll it is called but it was smoked salmon on white rice, and their strawberry soda and absolutely loved them all. Also, I read a few of the other reviews stating the service is slow and I completely disagree. I think the service is rather fast, but maybe it's the time of day I have been there...I don't know but either way this place is GREAT! :) Definitely go if you have the chance! read more

Awful. Absolutely awful. We placed an order at 7:58pm and we were told the food would take 45 minutes to an hour. 9:22pm comes around, so we call them back and they replied with, "the delivery driver came to your neighbor's door and couldn't find your house so they drove back to the restaurant". We proceeded to explain to them that they should have called when they were at our neighbor's house instead of just driving back to the restaurant. At this point, we ordered our food over an hour and a half ago and still no food. Instead, we told them we would drive to the restaurant to pick up our food. We get to the restaurant and the cashier tells us that the delivery driver is AT OUR HOUSE! He asked us if we would like to wait for the food at the restaurant or drive home to get our food from the driver. Now, at this point, it's been 2 hours since we placed our order. Long story short, after they argued with us, telling us that WE were in the wrong, they compensated with taking FIVE DOLLARS off of our total. We rejected the food and decided to go elsewhere. We were simply thrilled to find this oasis open on Christmas Day! We enjoyed a variety of rolls and the Snow White salad and found all to be very fresh, tasty and well presented. We also noted that the prices were quite reasonable and the place was very clean and tidy. We enjoyed it so much, in fact...that we returned that evening for a late dinner before heading home to the Berkshires! We hope that the local sushi fans will support this restaurant so that it may enjoy the success it deserves in the New Year!!! read more

This place is great. I came here for a late lunch/early dinner the other day. The place is really nice inside. The service was was pretty good. My sushi was awesome. It did seem to fall apart a little bit, but I didn't mind. My friend who was with me doesn't have Japanese food often, but he enjoyed his sushi and noodle plate that he got.
