My husband and I were staying in the area only about a five minute walk away from this neighborhood coffee shop. What a lovely find! Just like in the movies, this coffee shop is tucked away in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. They have a long menu of delicious, sounding crêpes, as well as pastries, and some unique drinks, including multiple types of London Fog, of which we enjoyed the rose fog. I also had a lavender Matcha, which was super tasty with beautiful latte art on top. The tomato confit and cheese crêpe was delicious as was my pain au chocolat which is my benchmark for how good the pastries are everywhere I go! Really flaky, buttery, but not dripping in butter, with melted chocolate because they keep them in the warmer. We came here twice for breakfast within 2 weeks upon hearing about the place from a friend recently. The small café hidden in a residential neighbourhood in Riley Park is a perfect destination for a morning stroll (a 15km walk from Downtown South in our case). My husband had the crêpes with roasted pair & brie on both visits. I had their salted caramel crêpes the first time and a croissant sandwich with ham, Gruyère, and Dijon. We went to Le Marche St George for brunch on a Sunday morning. It's a small corner store with some bar stools and window seating, and a few patio tables outside. They don't have a large menu to choose from but as there aren't many places around that serve French crepes, this place had been on my radar for awhile and so I really wanted to try their crepes. Featured here: Three Cheese & Confit Tomato Crepe Nutella Crepe Quiche Pain Au Raisin Iced Lavender Matcha The crepes were pretty good but nothing spectacular. It was the Quiche that turned out to be the showstopper. A lady who was standing in front of us while we were in line recommended the quiche to us, and it turned out to be an excellent recommendation. The quiche had smoked salmon, capers, red onion & herb boursin in it. It was cooked to perfection and my husband said it was possibly the best quiche he had ever had! Pain Au Raisin and the Iced Lavender Matcha were also very nicely done. The Pain Au Raisin was crisp and flaky, and I could definitely taste the Lavender in the Lavender Matcha. A hidden café just off of Main and King Edward. We were nearby for an appointment so we decided to pop by and check it out! I can tell that majority of their customers were locals - many were walking their dogs or stopping for a quick coffee on their walks. Inside the restaurant was a combination of a grocery shop and a café. We opted to eat at the restaurant since there was some space available. Tables are not all that big. I ordered a matcha latte and a Turkey, Fig, and Brie crepe ($13.95). Matcha latte was pretty diluted when I was there and not a lot of matcha taste. Crepe was a combination of savoury and sweet which was nice. Fig sauce was sweet but also a bit sour as well. The crepe itself was quite thick and I liked that it had a bit of a chew to it. Decent amount of ingredients inside as well. My friend ordered just a london fog which was quite standard. The store is a bit out of the way for me so I wouldn't go often. The crepes were just an okay for me. If I were to come back, I would probably opt to order a sweet crepe to see if those taste better. read more

There's one more table inside and the rest is outside. During winter or fall or spring when weather is unpredictable it's less comfortable to be sitting outside. I was sort of expecting a cozy nook in a corner. It's busy and people come and go so it's a bit noisy in such a small place. There's plenty of food selections from crepes to sandwiches. They look good. I just ordered an espresso and didn't order food because there's really no comfortable place to sit and enjoy the food at that time. People are nice. This is not a place where u bring ur laptop to work or study. Maybe bring a friend to chat for a short time or when the weather is nice in the summer u can spend time sitting outside. read more

This hidden gem is tucked away on an eastern side street just off of SOMA. Recommend by a family member, we stopped by Sunday for coffee and a snack. This is definitely a place that is frequented by locals, you might miss it if you didn't know what you're looking for. Definitely a home spun vibe! There are a good number of places to sit outside (weather permitting) and a couple of spots inside. Obviously seating is hard to come by but I was happy to see they try to limit laptop use. We shared a delicious cinnamon roll and scrumptious gluten free pumpkin muffin- both were excellent. These complimented our flavourful Americanos, which were strong but pleasant. One time, I sat on a planter and held my plate on my lap but the crepe was worth it. The coffee was pretty strong. The croque Monsieur was a bit hard to cut through but the flavour was delicious. I wish it had a bit more sauce to it but the cheese and ham was enough to give it flavour. The brie peach crepe was not bad. The crepe was thin and wasn't too sweet. I had been wanting to visit this cafe for a while after seeing photos of it last spring. And I am so glad I finally made the drive down. The cafe itself has this rustic charm to it. All the exposed wood and shards of goodies makes it feel as if you were walking into a vintage grocery store; it was like time stopped. The atmosphere was really relaxing because the cafe is located on a pretty quiet street corner. I sat outside because my dog was with me, and it was a wonderful way to spend a sunny afternoon. All the flowers in bloom around the outside seating areas really brightened up my mood. The service here was also very good; more than I usually expect at a cafe. I was struggling to decide what I wanted to eat, and the lovely woman who was taking my order at the counter offered to give me my drink first so that I can decide whilst I enjoyed my coffee--without paying first. This was a perfect example of what good hospitality looks like in my opinion. I walked back inside a a few minutes later and decided on their quiche which was the perfect snack. Quiche 8.5/10 I really enjoyed this quiche. It was a smoked salmon and Gruyère quiche that was just perfectly done. The cheese gave the quiche a really rich and creamy texture, and the smoked salmon added a nice hint of meatiness and flavour. My only complaint is that the pastry shell seemed a bit underbaked at the bottom. I ended up finishing the outer edges of the shell, and left the bottom untouched. Overall still the best quiche I've tried if I don't consider the shell. I like hidden spots like this - it's the lone café in an otherwise completely residential area, and it doesn't look at all like a café until you get close and see all the people sitting outside. The interior is also woody and rustic, which is matched by the locally made goodies they sell (things like artisanal chocolate, condiments, soap and lotions - the usual crafts). I was there around noon on a Tuesday and it was very busy - it might seem hidden but it's definitely not a secret. I managed to take the one table left outside, but was directly in the sun and it was HOT, so I ended up moving as soon as a shaded table opened up. They serve French baked goods, light meals, and coffee/tea. Love that they have so many tea lattes. I got a tomato confit, herbed goat cheese and arugula sandwich, a butter tart, and an iced creme brulee fog. I really liked the tart and fresh tomato confit, and the croissant was perfectly flaky. It was a little small but priced appropriately for the size. The butter tart was textbook perfect - I wouldn't say there was anything really notable about it, but they could not have done a better job with the basic butter tart. The creme brulee fog may have actually been my favourite thing I ordered - it wasn't too sweet, and the creamy, custardy flavour of the tea was subtle but really unique. I was surprised to only have spent $18 total, making this one of the cheaper sandwich + dessert + drink meals that I've gotten recently. While the portions were smaller than average, the quality was top tier, so I'd still say it's good value. I will be honest and say that with the way I've heard people talk about this place, I expected to be completely whisked away to Europe or a mythical "simpler time", and I was not - I still felt like I was in Vancouver, and that there was nowhere I could be but Vancouver. And although it's a "neighbourhood cafe" by virtue of the location, I didn't really find the atmosphere any more neighbourly than your average downtown coffee shop, not that it was hostile, but the vibe I got from the staff and the other patrons was indifferent, everybody trying to keep to themselves or their own group. What I loved was that they made a real effort to personalize this place. What I mean by personalize is their attempt to colour, flavour and present the bakery like they've dressed their baby up for some very special people to come and visit. In terms of the look, energy, style and fengshui of the place, I was impressed with the effort and work that's gone into this place that you may walk in and grab your croissant for a few minutes ( see pics). The almond croissant was incredibly fresh. Crispy in all the right places, fluffy in all the right places and the proportions were just perfect with all the ingredients. We also ordered the Smoked Salmon/Goat Cheese Crepe, which I fell in love with instantly....just try it....it was my favourite. I didn't so much like the caramelized poached pear/brie crepe....simply because the crepe had gone very soggy due to the pear juices and I like my crepe light, fluffy and crispy, and the oil from the cheese having been melted and combined with the sweetness of the pear was dancing a bit of an Elaine jig (Seinfeld reference). The coffee was honestly not as good as expected. I mean, if you're going to serve Lamborghini pastries and crepes, you can't be serving Kia coffee (no offence to Kia). There was also a lipstick stain on my mug and that happens, but making sure that all dish-ware is sparkling before reaching your guests' tables would knock it out of the ball park. What I love about Le Marche St. George is the sense of community and relaxing atmosphere. Perhaps this is because they are situated in a residential neighbourhood a few blocks away from the bustling Main St. area. If you're wanting to stay awhile and enjoy the rustic charm of the Parisian ambience, I suggest visiting on a weekday as they have limited seating outside and on weekends there are lineups that stretch down the side of the building. I saw a picture of the rose fog on Instagram, which intrigued me. They had lots of other interesting drinks that I haven't tried yet (see attached picture of their menu!) but I decided to stick with my first choice. I was not disappointed! The rose fog was sweet, with subtle floral notes, and it warmed me up inside. Aside from coffee and tea, they sell pastries and other food items (the bestsellers are definitely their crepes). Le Marche St. George also serves as a boutique general store. I live a ways away, so the fact that they stock the Canadian-made, all-natural toner that I use gives me the perfect reason to make a trip here at least twice a year. Le Marche St. George cafe is one of the chillest corner cafes that I've ever been to! Super close to my neighborhood so it makes it convenient to pay them a visit! This homey cafe is incredibly beautiful inside. I love the way they have styled everything down to the furniture, decor. I really love in love with the overall look and feel, especially how rustic everything felt! We came here on a Friday for brunch and they were honestly packed. We did have to wait quite some time to order as the line moves quite slowly but it's quite worth the wait. Service may be a little bit slower but I honestly don't mind - I quite enjoyed how everything was at a slower pace because it reminded me to chill out and not be so antsy all the time for my food. My friend and I were able to score a seat at the window. Seating is hard to come by because the cafe itself is small. Although limited, they do have outdoor seating as well. We enjoyed everything we ate/drank here! I really would love to come back to try their other items on the menu! A little pricey but definitely worth it for the yummy crepes and the entire cafe experience:) BRIE AND PEAR CREPE Brie cheese and pear will always remain such a superior combo and I'm so glad I picked this. It was incredibly rich but well balanced from the sweetness and tartness of the pear. It actually is a lot more filling than it looks and I ended up getting so full after finishing this. HAM AND GRUYERE CREPE This one ended up being my favourite - so simple yet so delicious. I loved how homey it tasted and I literally scarfed this one down so fast! I would 110% order this one again. I've pass ed by this cozy coffee shop a number of times over the years while en route elsewhere, and have always thought "I want to try this place", so when my mum proposed grabbing coffee here before our lunch date, it was a no brainer! The café is housed in a quaint green heritage building; think rustic-chic farmhouse, distressed wood and eclectic touches within (like the huge disco ball atop their pastry display!). There are a few seats outside the coffee shop which are perfect for a dry day, and about 3 window-front stools available. If you want to enjoy your treats there, you'll want to plan accordingly since it's a favourite amongst locals and the go-to in this residential neighbourhood. Once you come in to Le Marché, you'll see a large chalkboard drinks menu above the cashier and a small display of their assorted pastries - multiple types of croissants (butter, ham and cheese, chocolate, almond), pain aux raisins, cinnamon buns (which seem oddly out of place, but tremendously popular), canelé, and so on. You'll also see a procured selection of local goods for sale, artisanal baking goods, cookbooks, kitchenware, coffees and syrups, teas, Jams and honeys, as well as a refrigerated and frozen section including cold beverages, soups, and pre-made meals for folks on the go. While I wasn't tempted by anything, I love looking around. I ordered a chai tea latte with skim milk, my mum ordered a coffee, and somehow we ended up sharing a pain aux raisin (pre-gaming for lunch). We were lucky to score the window seating while we sipped and savoured. The chai latte was disappointing as about half of the small mug was foam (!!!) and the drink should have been hotter. With that said, the flavour of the little latte I had was tasty - I just wish there had been more of it. Oh well. My mum enjoyed her coffee, which was a rich medium roast. The pastry we shared, however, was EXCELLENT! It was so buttery, rich, moist, and simultaneously fluffy with cinnamon raisin goodness. It was exceptional, and had we not already made reservations for lunch, we would have shared another of their pastries. My mum is an incredible baker, and so I've been spoiled with the best homemade treats - we were both wowed by how good this was. It was a pleasant spot to kill about a half hour, and you can tell it's well-loved by local residents who come by with their kids, strollers, pups, laptops, and seem to be on a first-name basis with the staff. It's nice to see. Final verdict - I would recommend this spot for their baked goods and a coffee if you're in the neighbourhood. As I live out at UBC, it's out of the way for me and it wouldn't be a destination (for me), but would definitely be happy to stop here to grab a treat on the way. read more

This cafe is located in a very residential neighbourhood, just on a corner surrounded by residential houses. As a result, there were plenty of parking spaces (although I'm not sure if nearby residents appreciate that...) The cafe was super busy when we went but perhaps it was because of the nice weather. We waited in line for quite awhile before making it inside (only 1 group can go inside to order at a time). However, when it was our turn, we walked in to the register to look at the menu (there is no menu outside) and the staff just looked right past us. We were very confused and then she asked us to go back outside because the person before still needed to pay? Still not sure what happened but it felt a little bit ridiculous that she didn't explain what was going on to us and just asked us to go back outside (felt like we did something wrong). When we did eventually order, we asked to sit inside. They have very limited seating as well. We ordered a latte and a pumpkin spice latte and it took awhile to arrive. And they arrived in bowls. It seemed very odd and I'm still not sure if that's what they always do or if they ran out of cups?? Also odd because the volume of the coffee seems to vary significantly depending on which mug you happen to receive it in. I'm still not sure if we received the correct drinks because one tasted like pumpkin spice but was unsweetened and the other did not taste like pumpkin spice but was very very sweet. Not sure what happened there or if those are just what their drinks are? While we were waiting for our food, we noticed another group ask for their drink to be replaced because it didn't taste like what they had ordered so maybe they were just making a lot of mistakes that day. The coffees took around 5 minutes to arrive but the food we ordered took another 20 minutes!! Which I did not expect from a cafe! It tasted very delicious though. I have only been once so I can't really say if it's representative of the norm. However, the dark side of me kinda hopes it is! I like this place for two reasons: the coffee is pretty good as you would expect for a cute little coffee shop off the beaten track. But, the true delight of the place is the disdain with which the server dispatched her duties almost reminiscent of the soup nazi in that classic Seinfeld episode. There is a wait line outside the cafe, in which we waited eagerly for our opportunity to present our request. Our chance was signaled with a wave of the hand beckoning our entrance. We started making our request and then we were told to wait as some minor kitchen incident required immediate attention. After finally taking our order we were told to wait outside. COVID rules with which I am totally fine. On our way outside, we noticed it had started raining and a table had opened up so we asked if we could sit inside instead. We were left hanging in limbo for what seemed like an eternity before another server politely checked our COVID passports and we were finally allowed to sit at the table. Ok, I could ramble on about how our order was totally forgotten and had to be specified again, or that it took forever to make the coffee despite having more staff than a typical busy Starbucks. However, the experience was perfectly summed up with the delivery of the latte. This was roughly placed down on the table with half the beautiful froth pattern being spilt on the table. The server promptly dealt with the situation by grabbing some napkins and handing them to us to clear up the spillage as she walked away. Don't get me wrong, this level of service is not to everyone's taste and probably did not warrant the pre-tip I dutifully gave. This place is the definition of a NEIGHBOURHOOD GEM seeing so much development happening on the arterial streets, so much appreciation goes out to these dainty + kitschy smaller businesses that cater to the local crowd. NOTE: during covid times, their menu is currently very limited, only serving drinks & sweet takeaway crepes. No savory items or indoor seating available at this time, though outdoor seating is available. 2pm on a sunny weekend, this place is BUSY. I was maybe 10th in line around the block, wait time to order was only 10 minutes (at most) + a reasonable 10 minute wait to pickup. I walked a further distance to come here for brunch to find out about the limited sweets menu, slightly disappointed but understandable with covid in mind. I opted for a butter & sugar crepe and a cortado, with the intent to grab another quick lunch nearby. The crepe batter I believe is whole wheat, I personally was not a fan of the texture because of the grittiness coming through, though I did think the texture was so obvious because of the blander flavour I opted for - don't think it'd be notable at all if used with a more flavourful crepe! The cortado I enjoyed the most - the espresso was very smooth not sour at all & was piping hot made to order, would order this item again. Actually, curious what beans they use! Glad this small business is surviving well during these unprecedented times. went with friends for brunch on a rainy weekeday and i must admit, i was really impressed by this place. it really gives meaning to the term neighbourhood coffee house , as it is located smack right in the middle of a neighbourhood full of residential houses. i wont be surprised if this place used to be someone's house. from the exterior the place looks old and beaten, but inside, your eyes open up to a world of coffee and pastry goodness. ordered drip coffee and americano. drip coffee could be better but the americano is above average. also tried the spicy hot chocolate and it was smooth, decadent, and soothing to the soul on a rainy day. next, we ordered the ham and cheese(gruyere) crossaint and the croque monsieur. all i can say is wow! these 2 savory sandwiches are simply amazing. the gruyere cheese bursting with flavour and the bechamel sauce of the croque simply took the sandiwch to new heights. we also tried the banana bread pudding ( moist and tender and packed full of quality ingredients. the almond croissant topped with shaved almonds. yum! the quality of the croissants made here can easily rival those being baked in Paris. super flaky, soft, and tender. you can taste the skill of the pastry chef behind the scenes. seating can be a huge challenge on a sunny day..the washrooms and its location could also use sine upgrading and extra cleaning. there is literally no space to move around here, even when going to the can. you walk into the prep and kitchen area which is piled with dirty dishes and utensils. i think care or more attention should be given in at least being discreet, as you never know what the customers might think. overall, i would go back again and try the other entrees and sweet things. this neighbourhood is truly blessed to have such a fine establishment. majority of the people who come here simply arrive by foot and are clearly from the area. the servers tho could use a bit more customer service skills...they are very mechanical and appear to be snobbish. cheers! happy eating! cheers! happy eating! read more

I'm here for the crepes! I'd seen other yelp reviews, and I love a good crepe, so my husband and I came to visit on a relaxing day when we didn't have anything in particular to do. I'm glad we did! Le Marché St. George is a cute little cafe located in a heritage house on St George Street. It is pretty perfect for a light breakfast if you arrive early. We came just before 9:30am on Sunday, and it got a little crazy after we had ordered. I am not sure I'd come back at the weekend (as I'm not a big fan of queues) but I will definitely pop back for croissants or crepes if I have a day off during the week. read more

Update four years later... Nothing has changed except I think they deserve five stars. Gosh I love this place!!!! I'm so glad they didn't close. Coffee, pastry, serves is always great!!!! I will come back over and over again!!! xoxo read more

So disappointing. Went to the area specifically to try this place. Waited outside for 15mins for a table to free up. As soon as we got a table I went inside to order and found out that they are closing the kitchen due to the heat. No signage had been put up letting people know and I was the first order impacted. Had I ordered while we were waiting for a table it would have been fine. Tried to make the best of it and ordered a couple drinks and items from their bakery case. Drinks were small and not worth the money. Bread pudding was meh. Fritta was good and the only thing worth a star. read more

tiktok got me headed to Le Marche, and to my surprise, it did not disappoint! Of course there was a lineup of about 5-6 parties ahead, it gave us time to decide what drinks we wanted. I was intrigued by the Rose Fog hot drink and my partner was interested in the matcha. The matcha came in a smaller cup and whoa, it was very concentrated. It wasn't what we were used to, watered down I guess, so it was different and if you like drinks less sweet (or more bitter), this would be a good choice. As for my Rose Fog, it was perfect. Just perfect. I am craving more as I am writing this review. Creamy and sweet. Needless to say, their bakery is just as excellent. We got the almond croissant to share and yes, yes, it was flaky and we finished it very quickly indeed. read more

I had the pork tourtière today for lunch along with their french onion soup (not with beef broth). I really enjoy my lunch. It was perfect for a light snow day in March in Vancouver. The pork tourtiere was delicious, the crust is perfection and the filling is nicely spiced with clove and overall well seasoned. I had their green chai tea to go with my lunch. It is a small space but some people do eat and leave quickly however some are there to chat with old friends. We lucked out with a small round table by the window. It was way too cold to sit outside. On sunnier days, there are always heaps of blanket for outdoor seating. A cozy setting! Didn't have room for their pastries. I also greedily considered ordering their crepes but I know I won't be able to eat it all, ha! read more

I am gladdened that my 100th review is for a place that is truly a treasure. As I browsed this store I wondered if my thinking was unbalanced. I started to wonder 'how' and 'when' I could move so that this could become my local neighbourhood store. Families filtered in to buy artisan sausages, Earnest ice cream and fresh root vegetables. I perused bitters and mustard in a metal tube as my friend decided which ceramic plate made by the owner she should choose (she got 3 of them). A box of toys and books sat patiently waiting for children to play with them. I picked up a Woodlot candle and looked longingly at the menu (we had reservations somewhere else). I will be back to eat here another day. I would consider it worth the trip just to step back through that door into the atmosphere that feels magical & both foreign and inherently local. read more
