Stopped in to grab a coffee for the next leg of our road trip to GA. It's a cute spot on a nice stretch of what I think is considered downtown Knoxville? They had a decent amount of seating and the space was open and didn't feel cramped like some coffee shops can be. My husband went with a latte (which they did some very cute seasonal latte art on) and I went with a cold brew. The cold brew was SO good! It was excellent. Kind of chocolately and a little bourbony maybe? It reminded me of a discontinued barrel aged roast we used to get from our favorite Michigan roaster. I regret not asking what beans they used so I could order some later online to make some at home! Alas, I missed my window. But it made a huge impression on me. Not being a college football follower I didn't realize that Tennessee has a big rivalry with UGA (where we were headed next!). So the barista schooled us on the history and informed us that they had their big rivalry game in town the next day (luckily we were going in the opposite direction of everyone coming in for the game!) which explained a bit of the liveliness we saw on the streets and in our hotel. So thanks to the staff here for filling us in so we could be in the loop!

Mahalo Coffee Roasters was a sweet surprise on a quick trip to Knoxville. After a long day of air travel and a filling lunch, I needed a punchy afternoon pick-me-up to prep me for a 3-hour road trip at night, through the great Appalachian mountains. Enter these heroes: Mahalo Coffee Roasters! The customer service was beyond amicable. The barista patiently explained what drinks were most popular and made recommendations. While she prepared our coffee, she struck up small talk, which I thought would distract her from making a great cup of coffee. Joke was on me. She concocted a bold cup of Joe that was just the power boost I needed! It was delicious and prepared with lots of warm southern hospitality. The coffee beans (which are imported from Hawaii) smelled heavenly and tasted even better! I ordered a lavender latte, which was the perfect, soothing pick-me-up. Sadly, I wasn't able to try this coffee shop again, but anytime I'm in Downtown Knoxville, I won't think twice to return. Great coffee + great service = win/win!

I got an iced vanilla latte with oat milk ($7) and it was made in about 5 minutes. The latte had a lot of milk in it, so it definitely diluted the coffee flavor by a lot. The vanilla flavor was spot on however , and i did enjoy the drink. I wish it had another shot in it. The inside was very chill and I loved the surfing/wave theme. Overall a little overpriced for the small amount of coffee you get, but the vibes made up for it. Drink(50%): 6.5 Staff/service(25%): 7.5 Value(25%): 5.0 Overall: 6.4/10

Very cute place in downtown Knoxville. Wait staff was very nice and accommodating. Tried a seasonal latte and it was very good. Highly recommend & will be going back soon. Cute beach style decor as well.

Best latte in Knoxville! This is such a cute coffee shop, I love the Hawaii theme. The prices are good especially for how good their lattes are. The baristas were friendly and the drinks came out fast. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and it was absolutely delicious!

Stopped in for a mid-afternoon pick me up and wow! So good! I grabbed a rose and pistachio oat milk latte and the flavors were absolutely perfect together. We also had a blueberry muffin which was a perfect addition to our coffees. The workers were so kind and friendly an the inside was a great spot to chill in. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality coffee and some great vibes.

Wandered upon this gem during our time in Knoxville, and so happy we did! Got here around 3:00 and it was still busy on a Saturday. Not familiar to the area so didn't park, had someone drive around while I got our orders to go. Cute interior with some single bar seats by the windows and some small group seats in the area near the counter. The guy who took my order was patient and helped me with recommendations. I got the matcha latte, dirty chai, and a version of a caramel macchiato (they didn't have it on the menu but said they can make something close to it). All drinks we got were iced! We also got the gluten free coffee cakes and apple muffin. The pastries/ baked goods were delicious and I would definitely get again! The version of the caramel macchiato and the matcha latte were also very refreshing and tasty. I didn't care much for the dirty chai though- but I think that's just my personal preference. TLDR; good vibe coffee shop, good coffee and good eats. Would recommend!

We stopped in for an afternoon pick-me-up and the large windows and ample lighting add an inviting vibe. I would not describe this as a cozy coffee shop, more in line with a typical urban vibe: white walls, hard seating, good wifi. Not a spot that I, personally, would want to sit and chat with a friend or work, but I would grab a quick to-go drink if in the area and enjoy it in Market Square. This is a smaller coffee shop with a small menu (some unique syrups), and very friendly service with helpful with suggestions. We ordered: Sugar free vanilla iced latte Iced latte with caramel Honestly, neither one of us loved our coffees. We specifically ordered lattes to at least have a hint of espresso, but you couldn't taste the coffee itself. I would not order vanilla again (it was incredibly sweet) and would probably try the cold brew next time, which I hear good things about. I ended up tossing most of this coffee but perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing?

This is such a refreshing change of pace to find in Knoxville!! I just moved from Miami and it's been hard finding spots with great ambience and a unique menu (seasonal varieties inckuded rose pistachio latte, lavender latte (my kryptonite). Great walking location to all nice downtown hotels used for conventions and the sun sphere, etc, completely recommend!

A hidden gem while walking around downtown. My husband wanted a cold brew and I was pleasantly surprised that they offered matcha lattes and plant milks. After experiencing some very weird "interpretations" of matcha lattes lately, I've learned to ask if a business's matcha latte is just matcha powder and plant milk, which is really the only thing a matcha latte ever should be! Mahalo assured me that's what they served: an actual matcha latte, and they were spot on! The employees were really helpful and friendly. The cold brew came out quicker than we could find a seat! My matcha came out quickly, too. The matcha latte itself was a little "green". Green as in, kind of heavy and a bit bitter in flavor. It's not easy making the perfect matcha latte, I get it. They asked each of us how we liked our drinks, when we were done, that is a nice touch I don't think I've gotten at any coffee shop before. I told them mine was good, but a little "green" for my taste. They said they use "two scoops" of matcha powder, so next time I'll ask them to make it with 1 1/2 to see how that goes. It's a fine line between "too green" and "tastes like matcha flavored milk", but with their willingness to make adjustments I'm hoping to hit the perfect "matcha latte sweet spot". My husband loved his cold brew, and I'm sure he'll be trying his standard Americano in the future!

What a cute coffee shop off of Market Square! After browsing the bookstore next door, I stopped by for a drink and a place to read for a bit. Upon walking in, I was immediately greeted and, when I couldn't make up my mind, the barista recommended one of their seasonal iced lattes - which I ended up getting. It had coconut and cinnamon in it. The drink was delicious, refreshing and I was allowed to sit there for a good hour to savor it and finish my current read. It is a bit chilly inside - but they do offer outdoor seating. I would definitely visit again if I'm ever in town.

Ask the Community - Mahalo Coffee Roasters

Is there free parking?

Nope. Just the standard downtown parking options, which are pretty cheap in Knoxville. Street parking with meters. And the close by Locust Street Garage has low hourly rates.

We started with the Summer Brussels, which were packed with flavor and perfectly tender. We also ordered the Burrata and Tomato Salad, Blackened Redfish, and Farmstand Rigatoni. The freshness of the ingredients really stood out throughout the meal. The tomatoes were sliced thick and tasted like they had just come off the vine. The fresh pasta paired beautifully with the seasonal vegetables, and the blackened redfish was cooked perfectly. Combined with the étouffée sauce, peppers, and vegetables, every bite of the fish was balanced and full of flavor. We enjoyed sitting on the patio overlooking Market Square, which made for a perfect evening of people-watching. Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Both upscale yet inviting. Note that it does feel a bit like European dining where the tables and fellow diners are very close to you and the tables are small and cozy. You hear all of their convos as well, for better or worse. :-) We ordered the scallop appetizer and for our meal, we both got the short rib pappardelle pasta and a side of the brussel sprouts to share. Our server was very kind but our orders took a very long time to come out, from drinks to the food itself. In fact, our brussels came out at the same time as the check. I will say that she recognized this issue without us saying anything and even removed the brussels from the bill preemptively. The food was delicious-especially the main course. The bolognese sauce was creamy and had a slight kick and the short rib was tender and tasty. Another odd thing is that we ordered the same exact dish but one plate visibly had almost twice the amount of food than the other, which is an odd choice if you know they are going to the same table. Other than the few service quirks, it was a wonderful experience and the food and drinks were delicious. We will be back at some point.

I wanted to sample a variety- so I got an apple fritter, a snickerdoodle donut, a buttermilk old fashioned, and a blueberry Pączki. The apple fritter was the best of those 4. The snickerdoodle was just a traditional cinnamon sugar donut. The base was a bit dry yet also tasted oily. The buttermilk old fashioned had a similar greasy flavor and not the tang I'd expect from this type of donut. The Pączki was just a minimally filled jelly donut...and the dough was very greasy. Normally, the dough is more bready and has a more rich flavor. The ones I've always eaten in the past are heavily filled. This place seems like it has potential but it just lacks the quality or personality I'm looking for in a local gem. Nothing was awful but nothing was great either.
