Visited this restaurant for the first time with my boyfriend and the food was amazing! Notes on everything we ordered: Potato Croquettes: potato and cilantro filling with a golden crispy coating. Comes with honey mustard dipping sauce and was savory and delicious! Very filling and comes with 6 pieces. Thus, it was pretty heavy for both my boyfriend and me to finish. I'd definitely recommend ordering it if you have a larger party! 10/10 Butter Chicken: strong tomato flavors and creamy. Generous amounts of chicken, and we ordered it mild-medium and it had the perfect kick. I wish it came with rice and we didn't have to order it separately! Nevertheless, cooked perfectly! 10/10 Garlic Naan: very garlicky! You can see the garlic pieces that were brushed on the top of the naan. It was a lot thinner than the other naan I have tried before though. Each order comes with 4 pieces. 8/10! They also serve complimentary chips after you order! The only thing that can be improved would be the wait time for the food. We had to wait about 20 minutes for all the main entrees to come even though we were the only table in the restaurant. We were craving Indian food and somewhere affordable so we came here for lunch AYCE (AYCE is Tuesday through Sunday, 11am to 3pm for $17.95/person). We arrived around 2pm on a weekday and the restaurant had a lot of seating with about 4-6 patrons and some to go orders. Haven't been here in awhile but they still have a self-serve hot buffet station with different curries, chutney's, meats and vegetables, salads, rice/pasta. At your table they'll ask if you want any complimentary naan; we went with garlic naan. The food was decent although some food items were just warm instead of hot, they were still very palatable and enjoyable to me. I loved the chicken tikka masala, the pasta, and the garbanzo bean/chickpea salad. You can very eat healthy here if you want! I tried several other curries including a bean curry, an egg curry, and they were all pretty good. They had this red chicken that was a little tough but adding some mint chutney or white yogurt sauce to it made it decent. Water tasted like filtered water. Excellent service, staff was inviting and friendly. Restaurant was clean and organized. They have small and larger tables for parties 1 to 8 or more. Free parking in rear parking lot; make sure to check parking signs. Additional free parking in parking garages on nearby streets. Overall, for the price and excellent service, can't complain. There's public structure or street parking to get here. There's a nice and casual atmosphere here. Great for meals with larger groups. The staff are nice and really friendly! The food arrived at a good time. I got the chicken tikka masala with mild spicy. It was so good. Just enough flavorful kick, I might be able to go up another level. But the spicy levels go pretty far up! I also got the naan basket with the plain, garlic, and aloo parantha. All were great paired with the tikka masala. Sometimes you want Indian food and when you find yourself in Alhambra for some grocery shopping, you hit up Mahan Indian Restaurant for the first time and drown yourself in food. This is an "all you can eat" style restaurant so when we came in and we sat right down. As soon as we sat down we ordered some naan, they gave us some waters, and we were at the buffet. Now, even though I'm a big fan of Indian food, I don't actually know what I'm eating most of the time. I took a plate right away and filled it with pretty much every chicken dish I could, some rice, and some other random things that looked good. Now, when we started eating the issue was pretty obvious, the food was luke warm and that was a small bit concerning. Don't get me wrong, I continued to gobble down food like a pig at a troughs and soon the staff showed up and started changing what was under the buffet because they were all off, hence the luke warm food. I ended up eating two plates before calling it a day and hitting the road. Overall, I left with a pretty 50/50 experience. I didn't dislike the taste of the food by any means, but it certainly would of been much better had it been hot and fresh. This is our go to Indian restaurant. We came here for the buffet from 11am-3pm. There was a lot of variety that you can try for only $18. It also included your choice of garlic, naan or regular naan. The garlic naan is good with the different curries. The chili fried fish is one of my favorites. They also have tandoori chicken and tiki masala. The tandoori chicken is moist and flavorful. This is a great chance for you to try different kinds of dishes if you've never had Indian food I'm not afraid of different spices. There were a lot of vegetarian options as well, and the samosas are to die for. They have fresh fruit and rice pudding for dessert. The waiters are friendly and would constantly refill our water. You can also bring large groups to this restaurant. When we come here for dinner, we would order the cauliflower Manchurian for appetizer. I would also get the fish vindaloo with medium spice and basket of naan. The basket of naan had different types like garlic, regular and naan stuffed with cheese. Had an absolutely horrible experience here. Food came extremely late, like an hour late (we ordered at 8pm and the food didn't come until 9:15pm). Our order was not anything fancy, just your regular chicken tiki masala and butter chicken and some naan. When we checked at the front, the lady simply said "It's coming." When the food finally came, not only were half the order was wrong (none of us ordered spicy and half of the order came spicy), but our drinks were missing too. One of our drinks never came, and when it came time for us to pay the bill and finally leave this place, the staff took another 20 minutes to bring the bill. When the bill came, we noted that one of the drinks never came and that we no longer wanted it. The owner then insisted that it was coming, and we had to quite forcibly say we no longer wanted it. This is the kicker and why I'd tell people to avoid this place at all cost: the owner then put in an item with a super obscure name in and buried it all the way at the bottom of the bill, so when we checked the bill we wouldn't catch it, to claw back the cost of the order we canceled which never came. The food is so so, but the service was absolutely atrocious. Do not come here. read more

I chose the most spice level (Desi loco diablo) and it didn't disappoint-- for true spice heads only... I ordered the nihari via delivery and there was a 2 for 1 naan offer as well. For those who know nihari, the actual gravy part was a touch too lumpy/thick versus being smooth (I reccomend thinning with a little water over the stovetop for better consistency). Taking a point off for texture & the fact they don't include the traditional nihari toppings (ginger, chillis, lemon). Luckily I had limes at home, but any nihari lover knows these elements are essential to the experience! They should at least offer it as a priced add on. I love coming to Mahan, the restaurant is very calming, the employees are attentive and nice. I have been coming here for years and this is the first time I'm writing a review. I love all their food. There's nothing here I haven't eaten that I don't like. If you're not use to spices I definitely recommend you trying the buffet to try a bit of everything to see what you can actually handle and what you can love! They have a variety of proteins, veggies and a very delicious rice pudding. I love their mango lassi drink. It's a bit sweet for me but it has a delicious taste so I recommend asking for extra ice as it turns it a bit more crisp and less dense. Overall stop by! The weekend buffet/brunch is tasty and worth for just about $20. My fav items to get are: - UNLIMITED GARLIC NAAN - The goat curry! (Yes there's lots of bones but I grew up nawing on them so it doesn't bother me at all and the meat is very tender. Plus, I don't often see goat on the menu much less at a buffet.) - fried fish (No bones for this one except maybe outliers. The fish meat is smooth. Seems to be lightly fried beneath a well seasoned batter.) - the sweet rice dessert is pretty good Honorable mentions: dark meat chicken from any dish and samosas. If you don't know where to start, my recommendation is to get a table spoon size of every dish so that you can identify what you like - this is the exclusive beauty and benefit of a buffet! My only complaint is that the rice (a very essential dish) was quite dry this time. Probably due to being left out too long without replenishing? It can be saved via soaking some curry juices. In the past, the weekend buffet brunch here used to include free champagne or lassi (mango/strawberry). The buffet bar had LOTS of choices which was very nice, but if you come here closer to 2p or so, some of the options look like it's been sitting for a little while (but it's all warm so it's not the issue). They will provide you with fresh plain or garlic naan with your buffet. And the STAFF is very attentive at bringing water to refill. I could not wait to order from here again without my chubby fingers making the mistake and ordering the wrong entrée. Today for lunch, I ordered the butter chicken, which was a two for one special, score!! I got my go to garlic naan and I made a comment -extra garlic if possible, and it seems to me that it's more garlic than last time so I really appreciate that. I also ordered the vegetarian soup. So my feedback this time is this place to me is still going to be a go to. The butter chicken was good, and I'll be honest with you, while good, it lacked that depth of flavor that I'm use to when it comes to butter chicken, I thought the cream sauce could've been a little thicker. Like I said, the garlic naan all day every day. Now the poor little soup? I'm not sure what happened to you, but bless your little heart, you just didn't have enough flavor in you and it leaned a little toward watery. To me knowing what I know about soups, I think it could've cooked a little longer. Maybe I'm right -maybe I'm wrong. I don't know. Server comes by to take your drink order and brings you naan, they have regular or garlic. They have 10 options includes chicken, goat, fish, vegetarian along with a sauce bar, Indian salad with chickpeas or cucumber by itself. Mango Lassi- was great. Yogurt was tart and mango flavor was prominent, wasn't too sweet. Was a bit on the thicker side and I paired it with my meal as my dessert almost. Naan was hot and fresh. Perfect texture, chewy but soft and fluffy. Rice has hard dried up grains as it was sitting in warmer for buffet. Surprisingly have not ever been here before tho I go to Alhambra a lot and have eaten at a lot of restaurants and I love Indian food. A friend wanted to try this place for her bday so we placed an order online for takeout which was supposed to be ready in about 30 minutes. Yes it was a Saturday around dinner time so not surprisingly it did take a little longer than expected but not an extra 30 min longer so already not off to a good start. And the dining room was not exactly packed (maybe 4 tables dining). It was a group of 6 so it was a big order. We got chicken tikka masala, samosas, butter chicken, chicken tandoori, daal makhani, aloo gobi, pakora, rice (basmati, brown, and pilaf), malai kofta and a bunch of different naan (garlic, butter, chicken and paratha). The main entrees were hit and miss. The chicken tikka masala and butter chicken were both very skimpy on the meat. The aloo gobi also had more onions than it did cauliflower or potato. The samosa and pakora were decent but nothing standout. But most disappointing of all were the naan. I don't know if it's cuz it was takeout but they were all super thin, not fluffy at all, and so soggy. I could barely stomach any of them which is sad cuz I generally love naan. They were not puffy at all and the paratha did not have any flaky layers. They tasted like sad soggy flatbreads. The long wait for food on top of the terrible naan and kind of mediocre main dishes, I would definitely not come back. read more

We came to try the buffet on a Saturday around noon. I really enjoyed the choices they had that day including: -goat curry (bone in and lots of meat) -chicken curry -chicken tikka masala -vegetable korma (very flavorful and creamy) -spinach paneer (usually love this dish but it was saltier than I remembered) -tandoor chicken (not as flavorful) I'm on a low carb diet so I did not eat any of the naan or rice or samosas or the carb options such as lentils or potatoes. I ate all the curries over a big pile of crunchy cucumbers and cucumber tomato salad. I was very happy it was still sooo delicious. I didn't feel like I missed out at all being keto - YAY I also really appreciated how clean the restaurant is with tablecloth, comfy seats, and very nice servers that made sure we had water refilled. Probably one of my favorite Indian restaurants (I'm biased though because this is the only one I know and keep coming back to). All the food is soo delicious and tastes fresh! Highly recommend the butter chicken and the tandoori chicken! Super tender and soo good with naan! Drinks are unique and yummy too! I probably would skip the dinner combo plate as it was $25 (the king one) but I didn't like a whole lot of that selection. As complimentary appetizer, they give little crackers and two side sauces which I have no idea what it is made of but it's so good I can eat EVERYTHING with those sauces. The food was delicious. We got my personal favorite and go-to at any Indian restaurant- Chicken Korma. It had great flavor and paired well with the naan. We ordered the bread basket and got half garlic and have cheese stuffed naan and they were both amazing, especially the cheese stuffed one. The rice had good texture and flavor too.
