Had the Lamb Fried Rice again. Portion a bit smaller than the last time but the taste was still good with tender lamb bits and fragrant egg aroma. Mostly people order the Lamb Stews/Soups or Grilled/Boiled Lamb but I was wondering about their other offerings so I tried their General Tso's Chicken this time. Crunchy, sauce was very balanced sweet sour savory with a nice spicy kick to it. But batter was a little too thick. Lamb Shiu Mai had a lot of soupiness inside but I rarely got to taste it as they all dribbled out as the bottoms get torn no matter how delicately you try to peel them off the steamer liner. Fortunately they have a complimentary sauce bar and the Shiu mais go well with your own sauce creation. Also love their complimentary lamb soup. Nice and hot with pieces of radish, dates, goji berries and tender bits of lamb depending on how early or late you get there heh heh. read more

Delicious! The outside appears to be an unassuming spot in Atlantic Plaza but when you steps inside it's actually quite spacious and the decor is very pretty and you can see the wall art of Mongolian steppes. Their dumplings are tasty. The Shao Mai dumplings were my favorite - there's a nice chew and everything was tender and soft. They serve complimentary beef and radish soup with herbs like goji berry and red dates! Sauce bar is also self service. Dishes come out quickly, and the servers also speak mandarin here. read more

We first ordered the 3 pieces cold dish & 2 orders of steamed beef & lamb dumplings. 2 of us actually couldn't finished but I crave for a beef pancake that I ordered to go. The service was super good. The server told us that sauces were self service and there was lamb & turnip soup for free. When check out, I was trying to put tips, the server even told me that a 15% was already added to the bill. That's honesty. I really like that. It finally opened! And the rest of the plaza is much more lively than it's been in years! Everything we got was delicious. The Mongolian home made pie was a juicy delight. The trio of cold dishes were light and refreshing to balance out all the carbs and meat. We also ordered the Mongolian beef, cause weirdly that's a Taiwanese dish and we're curious how they made it. We'll be back to try the lamb dishes. The Mongolian cheese yogurt is more dessert than drink: thick, slightly sweet with cut up cheese, tomatoes?, blueberries and golden raisins/sultanas. Sadly no outdoor seating even though the plaza provides a bunch all over the place. If you dine in, the confusingly translated sign on the window lets you know you get free lamb soup and there's a fixings/sauce bar with like twelve options. Been eyeing this spot for a while and finally gave it a try. The Mongolian focus, especially on lamb, had me curious. Came on a Saturday around 6pm. It was busy but no wait. Service was great. For food we ordered the Mongolian homemade pie, the desert style spiced lamb chops, and the boiled lamb. The pie was really good. I liked the dough, soft and not too heavy, with a solid meat filling. We made the mistake of asking them to cut it in half and all the juices leaked out, so don't do that. The desert style lamb chops were deep fried with fries. Super juicy with a crispy exterior. Probably my favorite dish of the night. The boiled lamb was simple but very tender, and they give you spices to sprinkle on which helps bring out the flavor. They also have a sauce bar where you can mix your own dips, and they give complimentary lamb soup with radish which I actually liked a lot. Clean but still flavorful. Overall everything was good. Portions are big and we had a lot of leftovers. Only thing is the lamb can get pretty fatty and heavy after a while, so it's better to come with a group and share. I enjoyed eating at the Rowland Heights location and was pleasantly surprised that they opened another location in Monterey Park at Atlantic Times Square. Great place to stop before or after a trip to Asayoru Maid Cafe. Since it's part of ATS, there's plenty of parking in the garage underneath, you might have to traverse some different levels when it's a super busy day though. My friend and I went on a Wednesday evening and we were seated immediately. There were a couple other customers seated and dining in as well. When we visited we were able to either get a Mongolian salted milk tea or a Mongolian yogurt as a freebie, and both of us got the Mongolian salted milk tea. Comes in a neat wooden bowl, warmed, and with a spoon. Unique, a bit nutty and subtly chocolatey, yummy. We also got some complimentary edamame and for the dine in customers you can get free unlimited lamb soup. Super warming and light. There's jujubes, radishes, and lamb bits in the soup. There's also toppings and such you can add to the soup for more flavor like cilantro and cumin, or to add to any of your food. For our dinner, we got the: 1) Mongolian Homemade Pie (3 pieces): -It's a house made beef pie seasoned with spices. -Imagine beef soupy dumplings but they're massive flattened pancakes with a flat beef patty inside. Super juicy and moist and flavorful. The name is in the restaurant's title, you gotta get it. -You can use any chili oil with it but I found it perfect the way it is. 2) Shredded Potato Salad: -This is shredded potatoes with vinegar and chili oil. -I thought this was an appetizer but it ended up being this huge plate of at least 3 large potatoes shredded. Super generous portion and easily shareable. -Pretty oily but the sharp taste of the vinegar, slight heat of the chili oil and the crunchiness of the potato makes this dish refreshing and addicting to eat. Along with our edamame, milk tea, and unlimited soup, we were pretty full by the end of our dinner. The workers checked up on us a couple of times and I love their work uniform. It's like Ralph Lauren polo but it's a nomadic Mongolian warrior on a horse with a flag and the collars and edge of the sleeves are Burberry pattern. That's good stuff. I also really liked the painted nomadic Mongolian scenery on the walls. You can tell it's hand painted and not just a wallpaper and definitely not AI slop. The painting goes all the way to the end of the hallway to where their restroom is. Now that takes some effort. Will definitely drop by again! read more

Very interesting spot that I passed by a couple times - each time the restaurant was always full so we decided to try it. We got one of the rack of lamb dishes. It was very spicy and came with french fries but no ketchup. The lamb itself was pretty dry on the outside and the inside was very fatty. We also got one of the lamb soups but it's made with the free soup stock that you can walk up and get yourself. Overall I was not very impressed with the meal. Yogurt and milk tea are free, but the milk tea is not very flavorful, while the yogurt is very sugary. When you leave, they will give you a bag of their beef jerky as a gift. The jerky isn't really my cup of tea but it looks like the ingredients are pretty good/clean. read more

Went on a date night with a friend and decided to try something local and new to the scene. Came across this Mongolian restaurant while walking the plaza and I have to say it's was visually appealing. The restaurant had beautiful art work and decorations which made the ambiance feel like I was not in the United States anymore. The hosts were so nice and accommodating to us right when we walked in. They had lots of suggestions and told us how to get a good bang for our buck! They even told us there was free soup right next to the sauce bar which was magnificent The food portions were huge and the food was delicious. I got to try this place after watching a movie with my husband at the AMC theatre and wow, I was so pleasantly surprised! I came to Mongolian Pie during a promotion when they were offering 20 percent off everything which was such a great deal but keep in mind they do have a 15 percent automatic gratuity fee. From the moment we walked in I was so impressed by how beautiful the interior was. The space felt thoughtfully designed with a cohesive theme and the chairs were surprisingly spacious and comfortable which made the dining experience even better. Unfortunately a lot of the lamb was already sold out by the time we arrived for dinner which was a little sad but honestly it did not ruin the experience at all because everything else was so good. They offer a free soup bar in the back for dine in guests and it tasted amazing while also feeling light and healthy. The lamb that we were able to try was incredibly tender and flavorful and you could really tell the quality of the meat. The meat pies were clearly homemade and absolutely delicious with rich filling and a perfect crust. We had the beef pie and the beef and cheese pie (the perfect hand pie; if you like pupusas, you will love these; if you like potstickers, you will love these; imagine a cross between the two), lamb dumplings (shao mai--delicate, gorgeously ruffled dough, almost like a soup dumpling in juiciness), Mongolian style grilled lamb ribs (amazing; if you are unfamiliar with this Mongolian dish, imagine the lamb version of lechon: crispy, fatty, rich), shredded potato with vinegar (the potatoes noodle-like with just the right amount of vinegar zing to balance richer fattier flavors in other dishes), and stir fried beef (sumptuous chili oil in the sauce, tender meat). The service was warm, helpful, generous. The decor is bright, open, with tables well spaced, and the painted mural that wraps around the dining room--picturing cattle and horses, mountainous Mongolian terrain in brilliant greens, blues, and browns--is entertaining and joyful. Happy to find this place! Very friendly staff and spotless table and floor surface. The painting on the wall is so lovely and relaxing, making me want to go visit Mongolia! The meat pie tastes very good and soft though some people may like the skin more crispy. The beef tendon tastes as good as I expected and I love the cute pot a lot. Mongolian Pie is a new restaurant inside of the Atlantic Times Square. Offering authentic Mongolian-style cuisine with matching decor/ambiance, Mongolian Pie is a unique fixture inside of the San Gabriel Valley (SGV), which is predominantly focused on more traditional Chinese cuisine. My party came in during their soft opening phase. As they were only open during dinner starting at 5 PM, we have missed them a few times trying to find out their hours as it isn't posted. Luckily, we saw that they open after going to the gym and bypassing the store! Once seated, we were offered free edamame, sweet or salty milk tea, and a milk candy. The offerings them were good, but the milk candy wasn't my preference. As for food, we got the Mongolian Pie, lamb ribs, and the lamb shao mai. By itself, the lamb shao mai wasn't that great; however, when paired with some vinegar and garlic at the self-serve condiment bar, the dish suddenly has a lot more flavor. I think the closest thing that I can relate the dish to would be Xiao Long Bao without the soup. For the Mongolian Pie, it has more flavor than the lamb shao mai and reminds me of the crispy scallion pancakes with meat in the middle, but without the scallion. I would recommend pairing it with some chili oil or vinegar to give it a little bit more depth, but it is still good by itself. The star of the show was definitely the lamb rib! When it arrived, we were amazed by the presentation. With a crispy lamb rib on a wooden tray, it also had some fresh pickled vegetables and some spice. It was flavorful, crispy, and juicy. It has two different types of textures based on the layer of lamb. The exterior is as crispy as Filipino lechon or Chinese Peking duck, but the middle layer is succulent and well seasoned. Overall, I would love to come back! The variety of food, the taste, and the free offerings all had me reeling - though they were kinda oily. I would recommend coming with friends so you can get a lot of different dishes. As a side note, they do have a 15% service fee that is mandatory for dine-in, but they don't require tip. If I could give half stars, I would do 4.5; however, it is closer to 4 than 5. read more
