Full disclosure, after chatting with an employee I was offered a free Ginger beer if I agreed that I would write a review. Ginger beer was great. Very very good food. A disappointingly small vegan selection for a Thai spot though. The fried silken tofu main is a bit... unremarkable. Certainly tasty but a bit of a starch sludge with vegetables. The other main veggie dish, (maybe called Pad Paa? I think so) is shockingly good. Super spiced and spicy, rich, funky, everything you could want from a zingy Thai dish. They are also amenable your make dishes such as Pad Thai which are not vegan / vegetarian on the menus without the meat and egg. So that's nice anyway. read more

I had only eaten takeout/delivery from Mahaniyom during the pandemic and thought it was excellent albeit sometimes a bit inconsistent. Today we went for the first time to dine in, and it was SUPERB. The food was amazing - had the crab curry and the massama curry and both were wonderful. Portions were just right; flavor was deep and layered; the accompaniments were great. The atmosphere/vibe is also noteworthy - it's buzzy, busy, and friendly all at once. Service at the bar was excellent; food came out quickly. To top it all, this excellent dinner (food only, we were not drinking) came to $25 per head, true value for money in these inflationary times. Will be back - often!! read more

Fantastic cozy place in Brookline with fun ambiance. Every dish is packed with flavor. Staff are great. Delicious cocktails are a bonus.

Really impressed with their balance of flavors, especially the shrimp paste pork belly and sautéed morning glory. The morning glory had that wok charred smokiness that so many restaurants outside of Thailand fail to capture. Will be back for takeaway for sure. read more

Went to Mahaniyom for dinner tonight for the first time. What a lovely addition to Brookline Village! This small Thai tapas restaurant prepares food with beautiful attention to detail and Boong and his team are warm, thoughtful and so hospitable! We had the Yum Som-O (Pomelo Salad), the crab fried rice, and the salt and pepper pork cheeks . Their craft cocktails are also stellar, well made, balanced, and not overly complicated, allowing the ingredients to shine through Their thai-tea infused rye Sazerac was my favorite. read more

Had SUCH a great meal delivered from Mahaniyom! The Beef Massaman was out of this world -- do not skip this dish! The flavors were so rich and complex. Came here for dinner on Sunday and enjoyed everything we ate. Unfortunately the lighting was too low so I was unable to capture any of the food but more than happy to tell you what we ordered: - Brussel sprouts ( AMAZING!!! ) you have to order these, not sure why but they reminded me of the taste of lettuce wraps but I was obsessed - Fried Chicken ( Delish! ) not my favorite dish we received but they were tender and the sauce they came with was finger licking goooood - Prawns with curry ( By far my favorite ) it comes with vegetables on the side, slightly spicy if you are unable to handle spicy but my goodness the flavors were to die for! - Pad Thai with shrimp ( fabulous ! ) since we were sharing the plates and they knew that one of us could not handle spicy they put the chili peppers on the side. Very accommodating and it has lots of beans sprouts which I loved! - Pork ribs ( spice galore ! ) I think I finished four glasses of water to get through the pork ribs but they were fantastic they fell off the bone they were tender chef Gordon Ramsay would come back for these. Finally for dessert we tried their pumpkin custard which was one of the bartenders grandmother's recipes and let me tell you it did not disappoint. It wasn't sweet but it wasn't savory it was the perfect amount to finish the night. I will definitely be coming back here with my boyfriend! Our group of 4 somehow managed to squeeze in before the dinner crowd on a Saturday night at 6pm without a wait. The space is very small so there was a lengthy waiting list shortly after we sat down. The place was nicely decorated and dimly lit which gave it a "cool" vibe that you don't get from very many Asian restaurants. We ordered a few dishes including the fried chicken, papaya pad thai, morning glory, crab fried rice, and pork belly. The morning glory came out first and we were floored at how much we enjoyed this dish. I'm not sure which vegetable this was but it was similar to watercress in a garlicky, soy sauce/oyster sauce combo with red chili peppers. We ordered a side of rice to soak up the extra sauce because it was too good to waste. The other favorite was the papaya pad thai. Instead of traditional rice noodles, they subbed it out for thinly sliced papaya. We loved the idea of Asian zoodles and ended up getting seconds and thirds of this dish! Fried chicken and crab fried rice were good but nothing you couldn't get from other Thai places. The pork belly was our least favorite. The sauce was dark and looked decadent but fell flat in flavor and the meat itself was dry. My final verdict is this is a cute dinner spot with friends or date night. However, it is a little pricey. Every dish was over $10 and since it is tapas style, portions were smaller than what you'd get from other Thai places. read more

The food was good, the service was weirdly poor. Party of two for lunch, 12 noon, the first to arrive in the small dining room. Our entrees came out almost 15 minutes apart. The (handful of) tables filled up; thereafter, our server visited the parties on either side of us regularly, but apparently didn't notice we had finished - until finally we caught his eye to say "all set." Did he start the process of clearing the table? No. Instead, he moved around to other tables, checking in here or there. 15 minutes went by like this, the server milling about, serving others, not clearing, not presenting a check. Finally, I flagged the other server and asked for the check. It was bizarre being in the middle of a row of frequently visited tables and apparently forgotten about (as I suspect our second entree was...). The place wasn't *that* crowded and the food wasn't *that* amazing. Won't be going back. read more

We got takeout recently after seeing the restaurant on Eater. This is the best Thai food that I've had in Boston and I really hope this place survives Covid ( we will be making this our regular take out place). We got the pad Thai (both versions), crab curry, roti app, fried rice, jungle curry and rambutan salad. The rice dish and jungle curry were our least favorite, but we're still good. The crab curry and roti beef curry app were amazing. Those are going to be staples in every order. The pad Thai was also great. Very flavorful and smoky. The food had depth of flavor, unlike typical Thai takeout. Please support this place if you can. You won't regret it! read more

Food was so good the first time, I brought my friends back for a second time. Had their beef curry, spicy chicken, ribs, and crab fried rice. Our first time for dinner here I wasn't expecting the experience we had. I'm not Thai, but I can say this is the best Thai food I've had in the US, certainly in Massachusetts. The idea of Thai tapas paired with excellent cocktails gave our party of 4 an unforgettable experience. Boong is also an excellent host and bartender which brought the experience up a notch. Both times the food was consistently good and we just asked them to bring food without looking at the menu which was a great way to taste everything. New to the area, and decided to treat myself to take-out after a very long work day. As I scoured reviews of the restaurants around Brookline, the bar was set very high - I saw Mahaniyom's 5 start rating and went with it. I was not disappointed! Got the chicken pad thai because it seemed to be a fan favorite, and it was honestly the best pad thai I've ever had, even as takeout and needing to be re-heated (and I've tried a good number of thai restaurants). I usually hesitate to order pad thai because it tends to be less flavorful than other menu options, but this one was packed full of flavor with added chives, crispy pork skin, and shrimp flakes. Chili powder gave the dish a lovely medium warmth that isn't always present in pad thai. The serving size was fairly generous for the reasonable price (About $15 with tip) and I definitely had enough to save some for lunch, but ate it all because it was so good! Bonus: there's a decent amount of metered street parking in Brookline Village. Will definitely be interested in visiting again for sit down dining, but for now totally recommend take out from here! read more

Walked in late on a Sunday night. They were very busy. As I was solo, I sat at the bar as was immediately engaged by both a server and a bartender. They offered suggestions beyond my usual Pad Thai tastes and delivered a great Kang Pu (Crab Curry) which was delicious. Also gave me a complimentary taste of a liquor about which I inquired. OMG when I say this is best Thai food I have eaten .... Not even an exaggeration .. it's probably an under statement. Absolutely AMAZING food! We are a mixed couple - one vegetarian one carnivore and an picky 8 year old. This place made all of our diverse pallets very very VERTy happy. My carnivore absolutely loves the roti beef curry, crab fried rice (he was nearly in tears). They are very accommodative of my restrictions - I don't care what you eat please try the rambutan salad; I promise you won't regret it! Don't pass up the special drinks - it's a full experience on its own! We had ordered take out (including the amazing cocktails esp Daeng Bailey soooooo delicious) like multiple time and we were not sure in restaurant dining would be as great (small place) but it exceeded expectations. I called for a booking in the morning and when I arrived at the restaurant with my entire family, and he turned us away saying that we never made the reservation and accused us of lying!!
