Three years after I first visited this place & it just keeps getting better & better. Truly, a family-owned & operated business hidden among big box brand name retailers. I took a family member there for their birthday lunch since it is one the only places a person can get Indian food from business open to close. Most Indian food restaurants I looked at were closed between lunch & dinner which is great for them but does not work for someone who has a limited schedule & time they can eat. This place filled that gap by offering us a place to eat. The employee on duty was very friendly the whole time we were there. In fact, I saw a regular customer who had mistakenly ordered a "large" version of a dish. That person did not have the money to pay for the larger version so the friendly employee just told that person that they could pay next time they come in or basically whenever. Who is that kind these days? Not many people. The food was delicious & the value was on par with other local Indian restaurants. Because the food is fresh made, it takes up to a half hour or so to make. Also, seating inside the store is limited to a single table in the back of the store. The BEST place to get fresh garlic naan in Clovis!! Seriously so good! I usually call ahead of time to order, or you can go in to order but will be about 10-15 min wait time if you do. Disappointed. The chicken tikka masala had cubed shaped chicken instead of chunky pieces that you usually get at quality Indian restaurants. And the saag paneer was horrid. Like spinach out of a can or baby food jar. No seasoning, no flavor and the cheese cubes were oddly cooked. Ordered spicy but little heat and even less flavor. This little market and Ararat Market are both holding down the no-frills ethnic grocery and deli corner at Clovis & Herndon. Love to support the independent guys, especially when they're doing a good job. This little market carries all kinds of basmati rice, spices, and (I assume) other basic groceries for an Indian kitchen, but I mainly come here for the prepared foods whenever I get a craving for Indian food. Samosas, chicken tikka masala, and saag paneer are my go-to items, but there are other choices. Very generous portions for the price -- I ordered the above items plus garlic naan and had enough food for a dinner for 4. The owner is also very friendly and helpful every time. I just picked up an order of Samosas from this interesting. I'd never heard of it even though it has been on my drive home for 4 years. It's hidden, and your nose will find it before your eyes do. I ordered online through Google and it was easy as well as cheap. So simple!!! Great Samosa that really pleased everyone at my party. All said how tasty and perfect spice was. Very nice folks run this spice and sweets shop, which is right by Jimmy John's and Gluten Free Please. I picked up some Shan spice packets to zoose up some kebabs. Additonally, there are bags of spices that are harder to find in conventional supermarkets and Trade Joe's. Plenty of tea and cookie selections. We couldn't resist picking up a box of freshly made samosas. Next time, I might try the freshly made sweets, too. read more

I was looking for local Indian food places and I've been wanting to try butter chicken and garlic naan. so I looked up places here on Yelp and saw this place had a higher rating the reviews were mixed so I just decided to give it a try, I got here and the man was nice but kept asking me if I was doordash and I said no I want to place an order right now and he kept asking me if I was doordash and I kept responding to him with the same answer. After we understood each other i placed my order and got butter chicken with garlic naan and rice he brought me the food right away which was way too fast but I didn't say anything it smelled really good and I touched the garlic naan it was ice cold so I asked him if he can give me a fresh one and he brought me another one and that one was warm so I was fine with that. I got home starting eating and the butter chicken had no flavor so I added some salt which made it taste somewhat enjoyable I went to take a bite of my rice and there was a white medium sized hair in my rice and on top of my garlic naan. Overall this place has potential and the garlic naan smelled really good I wish I tried it but I was just so grossed out about the hairs. Maybe start wearing hair nets and add some more seasonings. read more

This place was great. The person helping us at the front counter was really friendly and chatted with us. The food was delicious and fresh. The only thing we would have done differently was called ahead so that he had time to make the food and we would then pick it up maybe 30 min later. I have been meaning to leave this review for a very long time! In fact, I have promised the owner on two separate occasions after purchasing their fabulous food. So....owners, if you are reading this...this is Leonard, the long-haired blonde guy with the beard who used to work at North India Bar and Grill! I'm making good on my promise to leave you a detailed review...finally!!! Haha Seeing as how you put so much effort and detail into your food, I would think it only fair! 1. ~Ambiance and Decor~ So, first of all this is a "Grocery Store/To-Go Restaurant" ( I believe they do have a table that you can sit on in the very back and if that is what you choose to do but I think it is only 1 table and you should not come here expecting to bring a large party and to be able to sit down and eat. This is definitely a To-Go Restaurant! Which, what it lacks in seating, they make up for in affordability. Many Indian Restaurants in this town are expensive, this one is certainly one of the cheapest!) Anywho, to get back from my all-to-common-run-on-sentences. Decor and Ambiance! This is a grocery store and a restaurant so there is not a huge amount of detail when it comes to the decor. However, it is definitely indian and does have nice pictures/art and music going! (Side-Note..."Tunak Tunak Tun" YOUTUBE that, you will thank me later greatest song/video ever!!! Haha) Whatever room has been available in the building has been put to functional use. It is a bit cramped but that is because they carry just about anything you could possibly need to make an Indian meal for a family of 4-400 haha!!! The very back corner is where you can go and order your food and sit down at the one table if that is what you want to do of course if you're going to order food most of the time the owner will greet you at the front and you can just order right at the cash register in fact 99% of the time that is what's going to happen. 2. ~Customer Service~ This is what, IMHO totally makes/breaks the indian dining exoerience. All too often will you run into a business owner, server, cook, whoever. That is extremely rude and completely unwilling to explain anything to you, especially if you're asking about the details of the cuisine: spices, cooking methods, Etc. However, This owner is an extremely nice person very thorough with his customer service and will take all the time in the world to make sure that you are happy and that you are getting exactly what you want! First timers do not be scared, Indian food can be slightly intimidating and very different for a person who comes from a western culture and especially a place like Clovis/Fresno. If you have never had a Cuisine like this, you are in for a treat! Just ask the owner to walk you through everything and you will not need to worry about the language barrier on the menu because he will be able to lead you exactly where you need to be! This is the part that really separates the different businesses, in my opinion. For westerners and people that are completely unfamiliar with Indian cuisine you really need somebody who is willing...scratch that...not only willing...this guy is actually excited to walk you through his Cuisine and to explain every detail that you might want to know about the entire process! Which I LOVE about this place! Ok, that covers the customer service portion...and then some...haha..... just come here!!! The family that runs this place is awesome and you couldn't ask for more, in a well-run customer service forward kind of business! 3. ~The Food~....oh man....the food...! This is it.....this is what does it.....this is the thing man.....this is what you're looking for.....having been a former employee of an Indian restaurant and having been a cook myself. This place has the goods and it gives em' where ya need em'. I could go on all day and all night about the food but there's really just a couple things I want to say this place taste like somebody's grandmother is back there cooking the food for you and placing a small pinch of love in every single dish that is served to you the food is absolutely fabulous you will not be disappointed anyways Yelp is not letting me write anymore so I've got to cut this thing short! What a secret gem ! I am so glad to have discovered this place bc I used to go to S. Fresno to get samosas.....but there is one in Clovis and it is actually much better than the "go to" place people always suggest to go in Fresno. The samosas have a nice kick to them... In my opinion, I actually think they're the best samosas I have had in town....I also got the TikkaChana and it was delicous and perfect amount of spice for me. I haven't ordered any other food platters from here.....but really want to try.....this would be a great to order take out! I definitely want to return ! read more

Best indian food I ever ate either back home in St. Louis or my new home in Cali. Very nice guy running it. This is a take out place and it takes about 30 minutes or more for your food to be ready so time yourself accordingly, but this could be top quality dine-in Indian food easily.
