Left San Diego at 4:00am to blow past LA and the crowded part of SB early... only for the coolant reservoir to crack right as were in the home stretch. David and his crew are incredible! We took our car into Westcoast knowing was going to be a "fixer upper" situation. We had to have it towed to the shop over the weekend and they were very understanding despite being super busy that week and let us dump a non-running car on them. They took their time looking into the situation and even called to ask a few questions before they gave us the worst case scenario assessment. Totally and old car that had been neglected but none the less the guys were really frank with me and gave us some advice about what to do and some potential options. We decided to just get rid of the car considering how much work needed to be done. This all sounds awful, I know, but David was great and was so flexible as we made arrangements to move the car. Additionally, since they knew we were getting rid of it and taking a loss, David didn't even charge us for the assessment!!! It's difficult finding a good mechanic. I'm always cautious. Noticed a couple of good reviews, it was near by and open, so I decided to call. Unfortunately, I received their "out of office hours" voicemail but decided to stop by anyway. I'm glad I did. David was friendly, informative, honest and the price was very fair. I originally went in for just a oil change for a F250 7.3L, as that is my trial run service, before I commit to any other services. David, did a good job, knew about the engine and what it was going to take. You'd be surprised how many mechanics fail to realize how many quarts go into that oil change and the procedure and quoted me the best price in and near SB. He offered to put his lunch off and get it done, as I came in at 12:30 but I came back a couple hours instead. When I returned to pick up the truck, he informed me of two other services that needed done, which I knew, did indeed need to be addressed ASAP, but had been putting it off. He quoted me the best price, not only for labor but also parts, against all of the other places I had called before. Then said he could get it done in 20 mins. 20 minutes later, he rang me up and talked shop with me for 5 more. He gets my repeat service and a good review, both of which I don't give easily. read more

I was here in Goleta for a business trip when my own car suddenly stopped on the corner of Hollister and Aero Camino. First time my car has ever broke down. However, I was very lucky to have stopped near a yellow sign with Westcoast Automotive on it. The staff is fantastic, informative, and pleasant to work with. They were so kind to drop me off at work after I dropped off my car. An hour later, I get a call getting an update on what they're doing and what they're going to do next. Another hour later, a solution was made and was ready to get picked up. I'm always wary of car repair shops, but I felt confident in leaving my car there. Definitely two thumbs up! Worst repair shop ever!! They don't know what there doing and don't even know how to repair what I took my car in for. This place is a joke and obviously not doing well since they made false charges and didn't even fix what I took it in for. It still had the same issue when I got home called the shop to let them know they didn't do it right. Guess what there answer was we didn't know what it was exactly but we charged you anyway. And we will charge you again when you bring it in to fix it!!! They have no warranty with thererwpaira which means they don't trust there own work to warranty it. I paid over $1400 to them to have nothing fixed. Not honest and don't know what there doing.. Don't take your car here If you care about it and want it to be diagnosed and fixed right. Horrible and to not even make it right after paying all that money is even a worse feeling. Took it to a real mechanic and found out the issues I had paid for weren't even done!!! I'm reporting them to BBB and the city. So much for supporting local businesses I took my car to Ventura to have a real mechanic fix the same problem I took it to this mechanic for to have nothing done. They are Not busy at all and I can see why now! And now know they just make up stuff to pay the shop rent. I should have took notice to them not being busy that says a lot about the business. My car's engine was misfiring so I brought in my car to Westcoast a little before closing and they had it ready for me by 3PM today! They also did maintenance and let me know which parts need to be repaired/replaced soon and which parts need to be replaced in a few months. When I told them I will be getting a new car in a few months, they told me which parts will last until then. I appreciated how honest they were with me, rathering than trying to bill more hours in labor. They have very reasonable pricing and great customer service. Don't take your car here for routine maintenance. We made an appointment for 8:30AM-9:00AM. It was 10:00AM before they even looked at the car. Car was ready at about 11:55AM. The price on oil change + tire rotation seemed on the high side. I politely let David know that I was disappointed, and that I expected it to take less time when we went to the trouble to make an appointment. He was polite but unsympathetic, and said "this shop isn't for everyone." That didn't stop him from taking our business though... it would have been nice to know that before we made the appointment, hence this review. read more

My car was making a horrible noise in the right front tire and I knew something was wrong. I had called a few other well rated places and they were booked for the day, but I needed the issue resolved fast. So I called west coast auto and they told me to bring it in right away. I had it towed there and within an hour or so the owner, David, had diagnosed the issue: a bolt in my breaks had ruined the pads. He replaced the break pads and had my car good as new within the next 2 hours. I couldn't have been more happy with the quality and speediness of the work, the reasonable price, and the great customer service. I'm relatively new to the area and I think I've found my favorite area mechanic. Even though they only worked on the breaks, I swear the whole car seems to be running better. read more

This man said he would fix my car that had a broken coolant line and oil mix got into the radiator and transmission. He had the car for a week and he could not completely clean out the oil mix that got into the engine. However, he still charged me $1000+ for something he did not know how to do. I took the car from him and a few days later my transmission gave out. This happened because the oil mix he did not properly clean got into the transmission through the coolant lines. What a waste of my time and my hard earned money. This is not a mechanic he's a clown. Please don't give this man your money he is not worth it. This review deserves ZERO stars. read more

Our sons truck broke down while visiting a friend at UC Santa Barbara. We are not from the area and we weren't with our son. What to do? The tow truck driver gave our son a few options and he chose Westcoast Automotive since it was the closest. Unfortunately his truck had several problems that needed to be fixed. We put our trust in David's hands. He did not let us down. He kept us informed as the repairs progressed. They did a fabulous job! My mom and I were from out of town and we were driving home from LA, when our car started having problems. We had no idea what was wrong and our "Check engine" light came on. We desperately looked for a mechanic and were really pleased to find the Westcoast guys. It was really close to closing time, but they didn't push us out the door they kindly helped us and really analyzed the car to see what the problem was. (apparently 2 of our 6 cylinders weren't working properly). And in about an hour they got our car fixed and running. My mom and I were so thankful and appreciative.
