I called and spoke with Thomas told him the issue with my son's vehicle and he said bring it right in. When I arrived, he was very nice and had one of his mechanics, take a test drive with us to hear the problem. When we returned, they took the car in and said they would call us. We received a phone call less than a half an hour and to come pick up the car. There was something loose and Thomas and his mechanic fixed it and didn't charge us for it. I have had two experiences with Goleta transmission. Don't let the name fool you....they do transmissions but they do way more. Experience 1. Broke my transfer case in my 86 Bronco....without upwelling me, they replaced a $8 bushing and I was good to go. I was prepared to spend thousands of $$$$ on a transfer case and got away with spending under $75. That is a win Experience 2. Took bronco back with several issues that were not at all transmission related. All fixed and under budget. From the steering column to the rebuilt front suspension to the non functioning rear window....this shop hooked it up. Highly recommend. read more

Avoid at all costs. Transmission job came in completed a week later than proposed, and $600 over the estimate. When we tried to ensure the warranty by having the work reinspected they said they were too busy and would call us in a few days to fit it in. Never called. Then a short while later we began having issues with our starter. The other mechanic we use noticed damage in the gears due to the housing missing a bolt when they reinstalled the starter at the transmission shop. They stripped the housing so no bolt would fit and just left it- so every time we would start the engine the part would shake violently and cause damage to the starter and the flywheel they had just replaced. He did his best to remedy the situation, but within a week it all failed and now we need a new starter and transmission flywheel due to their shoddy work. Sad to see them take advantage of their own local neighbors. Planning to report them to various consumer review and mechanic's boards. read more

Efficient, professional, honest... I felt they did everything they could to make the repair both as good and as inexpensive as possible. Re-surfaced the rotors instead of replacing, tried valiently to save our relatively new battery, which we drained dead a few times. I fret a fair amount about a new mehcanic; will they do a good job? will they bill for unnecessary work? Asked around a bit, everyone said these guys were great. Had our car towed there on a Sunday; talked Monday am, they took care of it. We felt we were in good hands. read more

Took my 2005 Ford Escape in after having it seen by auto repair mechanic just down the street called Casey's Garage. Our family has used his services for generations. Casey indicated it was leaking transmission fluid. The vehicle was still under ATRA warranty so I took it to this establishment called Goleta Transmission on 74 Aero Camino. They raised it up and after both mechanics looked at it, mind you I am in a transmission specialist garage, told me it was not a transmission issue. They referred me to another garage to isolate the non-transmission issue. Krebs automotive as the case may be. They were kind and complete in their inspection.(09-11-16) I returned to Goleta Transmission with the documents from Krebs that same day and was told to call back on Monday.(09-15-16) This is a good point to mention that I have had repeated throat surgery for cancer and it is hard to understand me at times, especially in the morning. The owner, who's name I never got or am sure is the owner, misunderstood me on the phone regarding reimbursement, which was another 60.00 dollars on top of what I paid for in the first place at Casey's, for sending me to ask someone else if it was a transmission issue. Immediately began to rant and yell at me calling me "crazy and nuts". "Take my f*%king business somewhere else." Clearly his attitude is as loud as his tattoo's. Not ragging on tattoos. They were vibrant and look like good work but you get the point. Santa Barbara and Goleta are very big about word of mouth and believe you and me as a multi generational local I will be telling everyone I know about the experience I was given. Finding it hard to see how this guy has an honest to God 5 star status. Very disappointed doesn't begin to describe this. Took my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee for its 50000 mile service. Transmission was a bit growly in reverse and not very smooth. Got charged for regular service only, but transmission is smoother and quieter than new. Fast service, friendly staff. Got the car back the same day. I'm happy and will be back. read more

Absolutely terrible. Gave me a quote the day before for a small part and labor. I brought it the next day to have it done and he charge me 3x what he told me the day before. Then when I asked about the discrepancy, he lost it at me threatening to take the part out and put the old one back in. And begin to scream like an idiot. Acted like a moron and was unable to discuss it. Just a terrible place- unprofessional, rude, liars, and left with zero peace about my vehicle being good to go. I recently purchased a high mileage SUV and wanted the transmission checked out and serviced. After looking at online reviews, I chose Goleta Transmission and was not disappointed. I met the owner, Steve Presta, when I dropped the car off, and in our conversation, it was apparent that Steve was very knowledgeable about automobiles in general and transmissions, specifically. The first thing the shop did was do a test drive to check out the overall function of the transmission. During the test drive, the technician noted a sound coming from what appeared to be a front wheel bearing. Upon return to the shop, it was confirmed that a wheel bearing needed replacement and the transmission was working fine and a routine service was all that was required. The shop called me and I authorized the bearing work, and both the transmission service and bearing replacement was completed with 2.5 hours. I never got a chance to write a review for these guys until now but I brought my wife's 2004 Mazda 3 about a year a ago with a intermittent gear light blinking. At first we took it to Mazda and had there Master Tech check it out, probably about 3 times since it only comes and go. There tech could not figure it out each time!
