Today, I had a very bad experience when I went for an oil change. The guy at the counter initially told me it would cost $100 or so (I don't exactly remember the amount). I told him that I wasn't willing to pay that much and needed to find a better price elsewhere. However, he then called Bill, who told me it would be $74, so I decided to go ahead with it. When I received a call to pick up my car around 5 pm, I went to the shop, but they were closed. However, they had left the invoice with the guy at the gas station, and it was for $94. I asked the person at the gas station to call Bill, and he said he would call once he was free. After waiting for about 5 minutes, I got upset and asked him again to call Bill now, please. After connecting with Bill, I reminded him that he had initially quoted $74. At first, he agreed, saying that was the price he had told me. However, when I pointed out that the invoice showed $94, he said he told me it would be $94. I felt cheated at this point and told him that I wouldn't pay $94. He responded by saying that I couldn't take the car unless I paid the full amount. Eventually, he returned to the shop and started using offensive language. Stay away!!! Was quoted $1200 for brakes and rotors for all four wheels. Went to pick up my car and the bill was $1518.00. I was given the story about OEM parts are more money, then quote it right and honor your quote. He played a game that he did an oil change for free and took off $200 off the bill and it was still $1518.00. On top of that, he would not honor a 20% off coupon for four brake pads and rotors, his own coupon. Buyer Beware Here!!! Filing a complaint with the BBB. read more

They tell you one price and charge another totally not right and they think they will get away with it not this time

I went in for a state inspection and they refused me service. I had my state issued paper interim driver's license and it was refused since it's not a photo ID. DMV took my out of state license away during my out of state transfer and if you're offering state inspections, aren't you supposed to be at least somewhat aware they do this, or at least be familiar with what their documents look like? I also had the registration, insurance, and other forms of ID but they wouldn't bend far enough to do their job. And then they had the nerve to tell me it wasn't a "big deal to not do inspection within the 14 day period". Do not trust these people. I'll be going to your competitors for everything else just like I had to do today. Thanks for nothing! read more

My check oil light came on in my car and it was a freezing cold Saturday morning I was heading to Connecticut when the light came on I stopped and checked the oil ant the level was ok. I pulled into the Mahwah Sunoco they took my car in right away. Turns out it was the battery they had me on my way in no time. Friendly service. You don't find many of these shops anymore. Went to Sunoco for several repairs when I was a broke college student with no knowledge of cars. The owner of this place oozes dishonest and overcharged me for simple repairs. He didn't give me a quote before he performed the repairs. Othertimes, he charged me hundreds of dollars more than the quote he gave me. The owner must be used to robbing wealthy residents from Mahwah who don't know any better. The actual mechanics had bad attitudes. I've since found Wilson Autobody in Mahwah and those guys will treat you like family - they're honest. See for yourself. read more

I wasn't going to write this review but I felt I had the responsibility to share my experience. My check engine light went on so I brought the car in. It was determined quickly that the battery was at its end. I picked the car up and received a bill for over $700. When I questioned the charge, I was told that "a special battery" was needed that cost $300. The rest was the labor to reset the engine light. A $300 battery for a Ford Focus? I was assured that this was the charge. After I got home, I showed the bill to my boyfriend who also thought it was high. I immediately called the Sunoco station and he admitted that he overcharged me by $200 using the excuse he made "a mistake". I was skeptical since I had already questioned the charge before I paid it and he made no attempt to call me to correct the mistake.Buyer beware at this place! I won't be going back and I'm thinking of calling the better business bureau. read more

A few years ago I live in Mahwah and used these people for a few years while I lived in town. I had several bad experiences with the dealers on route 17, and finally gave up on the high cost and lack of personal touch. Well, Mahwah Sunoco does offer a more personal touch, they also keep the place looking very nice. However, the cost of their work is outrageous! Now that I have moved out of the area and taken my cars to other places I am amazed at how much they charged me for work they did for me. I was told by Bill I had to buy certain expensive tires for my car which I have since learned wasn't true. Just as an example. I don't think they are dishonest. I just think he really believed it, but I have used several other cheaper tires on the same car since and had no issue. Quality work, friendly personal touch, but you will pay for it. Although I have never written a negative or positive review before, I feel it is my duty to write this review about Mahwah Sunoco and it's owner Bill Laforet with the hope that others will not be ripped off by this dishonest repair shop. I brought my car in for a fairly simple job of replacing some lights on the dashboard. At this time Mr. Laforet quoted me a price of $320.00. When i went to pick up the car, the bill was $693.97, more than double the amount quoted. To make matters worse, I was told that the battery had died. This was a battery that had just been replaced 3 months earlier. Mr. Laforet charged me the outrageous amount of $73.00 just to install this new battery. This was the biggest ripoff of all time. In addition to the dead battery, Mr. Laforet said that the entire audio system had blown up and would cost $2000.00 to replace the amplifier. Mr. Laforet became extremely agitated and arrogant when I asked if he was going to replace it. On March 27,2017 I took Mr. Laforet to small claims court where the court ordered a judgement against him. This repair shop is the most dishonest business I ever encountered. A word to the wise......STAY AWAY FROM MAHWAH SUNOCO.....or bring lots of $$$$ with you. read more

I was driving from Philadelphia to New Palz, NY and passing through Mahwah when my car began to shudder and make loud noises. I was sure something was horribly wrong and pulled off the road. Using my cell phone, I found Mahwah Sunoco and saw that it is a service station in business for a long time. I called them and told them my situation and asked if I could bring in my car. They said yes and as soon as I got there they took it out for a drive. I thought it would be a while, so I walked to a deli to get a sandwich and when I returned, the car was fixed and ready to go! The problem was that one of the rear wheels had come loose and was working its way to coming off! The service man told me he tightened it properly and tightened the other wheels, too. Of course I was greatly relieved because I thought it must have been a much bigger problem and instead I could be on my way. When I asked to settle up, he refused, saying it was no trouble and too small an effort to charge for. Well, it was a small thing for him, but it was a big deal to me and a real kindness. So I give this business a big thumbs up. read more
