Dress was perfectly altered for my wedding and they did it super quick as I was late getting my dress!

Mai's did an amazing job with the alterations of my wedding dress after I lost 50+lbs prior to my wedding. However, on my wedding day, I had to miss a lot of cocktail hour because there was a needle left in the seem of my dress that stabbed me and left me bleeding. Luckily we had tweezers in the emergency kit. Not only did it cause my to bleed in my wedding dress but it also caused major discomfort. After the amount I spent on alterations, I'm very disappointed that leaving a needle in the dress caused me pain on my wedding day. read more

I'm long overdue writing this review, but a friend just asked where I went--she remembered how upset I was at the time. My first fitting went fine. But when I came back for my second fitting, just two weeks before my wedding, the bust wasn't fitted correctly and the fabric was visibly rippled. Thankfully, my mom was with me and calmly pointed out the issue. The staff tried to tell me it was just the fabric--despite the fact that it hadn't rippled when I originally tried on the gown. My mom noticed they were only adjusting one seam on the bust and completely ignoring the other, which was distorting the shape. When we asked why they hadn't altered both seams evenly, they told us it was "too difficult." Mind you, we were paying close to $1,000 for these alterations--"too difficult" shouldn't mean "we won't do it." It wasn't until I broke down crying--right as another bride was walking in--that they finally agreed to fix the right side of the bust (which looked the worst). And surprise--they were able to fix it completely. I said, "That looks amazing! Can you do the other side now?" They responded, "No, we fixed this side." At that point, I was furious. They clearly could fix the issue but were trying to do the bare minimum. In the end, my mom and I stayed there for hours, pushing them to finish the job as they squeezed us in between other appointments--because by then, we didn't trust them to do it right on their own. read more

Unfortunately, getting my wedding dress altered at Mai's was a very stressful experience. While the initial fitting went well, my second appointment was scheduled just two weeks before the wedding--a timeline I was uneasy about but didn't question, which I acknowledge was on me. When I arrived for my second appointment it was clear to me that I was expected to just to accept my dress. However, I found my dress now had two noticeable ripples in the bodice that hadn't been there before. When I pointed them out, I was told they must have always been present and that I had simply missed them. I found this unlikely, given how obvious they were at a glance. I also noticed a seam coming undone and was again met with a very defensive, dismissive, and honestly rude attitude. Ultimately, I was not looking to place blame or point fingers, I just needed reassurance that the issues could be fixed. A wedding dress is often the most meaningful piece of clothing a person will wear, and it's natural to expect it to look and feel right. Unfortunately, the aspects I really did love about the dress were completely overshadowed by the negative attitude toward me. Additionally, the hem was too long on my wedding day, which caused me to trip repeatedly until the dress was bustled. This may have been something I would have noticed if the final fitting had gone differently. Please keep in mind that if you choose this seamstress and something goes wrong, you may not be met with the level of care or flexibility you would expect during such an important process. read more

Mai is incredible. She is an expert with all kinds of dresses and does phenomenal work. I had a dress issue elsewhere and came to Mai with a very difficult alteration on a very short timeline. This shop did a beautiful job altering my wedding dress in such a short time frame. She sewed all of the buttons down the back after the designer failed to add them to the final dress. She created a cute bustle, worked with me when I told her I was going barefoot in the sand, and listened to my direction and concern when I wanted one part of the top to be taken in more for more symmetry. I purchased my dress from Savy Bride Boutique and was sent to Mai's for alterations. At our first fitting everything was going great - the shop is super clean, nice, and everyone is friendly During the alterations, my straps were super long and the cups were to big for my chest size. They adjusted the straps which made it tighter but I could tell I needed to go down a size in cups. I pointed this out and was told "no, it won't fit. This is the right size" so we left it alone. During my 2nd fitting, I again pointed out the cup size and was told they wouldn't adjust because it was the right size. Once my wedding came, I had to hold & cover my chest while sitting for dinner because the cups were way to big. I was very uncomfortable and ended up changing very early in the night. I was not able to take my dress anywhere else to get altered due to the timing of my 2nd alteration coming back. read more

TLDR: As a bride you want to feel supported and put at ease when going to your first wedding dress fitting. This was not the experience I had when visiting Mai's. I felt like my concerns were not heard, and was treated like I was an inconvenience, not a valued customer. The owner rolled her eyes at me when asking questions about alternative options for my dress. The experience felt transactional and so disheartening. On top of that she used a blue pen to mark up my dress. Making it hard for the next seamstress and impacting my alterations. I don't wish this on any bride. ________________________________________ They came recommended from the bridal shop I purchased my dress, Savvy. I showed up to my appointment 8 weeks before my wedding date. I put my dress on and as soon as I stepped out in front of the mirror the first thing the seamstress says to me is "you'll need straps to make sure your dress stays up". I was caught off guard as my dress is strapless with sleeves that hang off the side, and I did not want to add straps. The dress should in my mind be designed to stay up strapless. The issue we ran into is that my dress fit perfectly, except for the cup size was too big along with the sides near my armpits. She pinned the sides of the top, along with the sides of my dress in an attempt to make it tighter and hold everything up. In doing this the shape of the cups were compromised and felt like I was showing too much skin. I was told this was the only option. She continued to the bustle, which I had no say in. She said "this is the only way we can do with this type of dress". I left the appointment feeling uneasy, and like I didn't have a say in any of the alterations. I called back the next day and asked if I could come in to discuss the dress further as I was having second thoughts on the top and needed reassurance. She offered a 10 minute consultation and took it. I came in and I could tell immediately she was not happy. I raised my concerns and asked if there were any other options, I felt the dress was too revealing with the way she pinned it. She said I had no options, except adding the straps. I asked if we could use any of the fabric she was cutting to add to the v neck of the dress to help, "sure we can do it, but we won't have time to fix it if you don't like it or lose anymore weight". I asked I we could add any additional boning to the front of the dress and she said she didn't have any.This was followed by an eye roll. it was in that moment I calmly said "I think I'm going to take my dress else where". I asked for my deposit back, which she thankfully returned. Brides if you have any concerns about going here, felt uneasy after your appointment, trust your intuition and go somewhere else. I made the decision to go elsewhere and I am so happy I did. The new seamstress helping me made me feel comfortable, provided her recommendations on alterations (that DIDNT include a strap) and is adding more boning for additional support! The absolute unfortunate thing is that Mai marked up my hem with a NON water soluble pen. My seamstress is having to cut the the hem to ensure there are no blue marks on my dress. I am absolutely devastated and bummed about it. I hope no bride has to deal with this on top of the already stressful process it is to plan a wedding. read more

Mai came recommended by the bridal shop I purchased my dresses from, Savvy. I purchased two gowns (one for ceremony and one for reception) and took both of them to Mai for alterations. Y'all, I'm so glad I did. Between purchasing my gowns and receiving them from the designer I lost 65 pounds due to complex medical issues. I was terrified my dresses wouldn't fit me and I'd have to start my search all over. I set an appointment for my first fitting months in advance of my wedding. Then my medical issues reared their ugly head again and I had to reschedule my first fitting. Instead of trying on my dresses I was headed to the ER. I was heartbroken. I reached out to Mai and she was so kind and understanding. She rescheduled my appointment no problem and wished me well. She even checked up on my to make sure I was ok! Finally the first fitting arrived. The moment of truth of the dresses could be salvaged. I dressed in my ceremony dress and Mai did a quick assessment. Thankfully small alterations could save it! She suggested adjusting the shoulders, swapped the cups for larger ones, and hemmed my bottom layer. Because the dress is corseted it didn't require as much as I thought. Now on to the reception dress. For alterations she recommended swapping cups for larger ones and taking in the shoulders by 1.5 inches each. This ensured a tighter more structured look and provided the needed support for the girls. Y'all my previously lackluster cleavage now shown. She also recommended hemming the lining and lace since this would be my dancing look. We left the overlay to decide on later. Fast forward a month. I arrive for my second fitting and the dresses fit like gloves. She took pictures galore for me and inquired about my health. Mai gave me options for the reception dress train - I could bustle or I could hem. I didn't like how the bustle looked so she marked where to hem and took it straight back after her measurements. All this so I wouldn't have to come in again! She nailed the shoulder adjustments even with all the lace and beading work that had to line up. I can't recommend Mai enough. She is true professional at her craft. She is also kind and sweet. She gave me options and helped make me feel beautiful when I was afraid I'd have to start my dress search over after my medical issues. read more
