Had dinner with a friend at Mai Thai this past Friday. It was the first time either of us had ever been to Mai Thai. I've tried several other Thai places in Lexington, and Mai Thai is my new favorite. The service was incredible. The outdoor seating was a nice bonus, and the food was great. I LOVE spicy Thai food, and I find most places in Lexington to be a little bland even when you as for extra spicy. I ordered my Pad Krapow "American hot," and it was perfect! Maybe, I expected too much of the small "Mai Thai," given the great reviews I've seen on Yelp and other places. The staff (the manager and cook were one and the same, which, I suppose, should be a "good" thing) were polite and friendly, though, one, apparently, new, waitress couldn't figure out how to use the register, and she got a few plates and customers confused (there were two tables with people plus my take-out order). After only ten minutes, my order was ready. When I got home, a few minutes later, I found the food edible, but, there was nothing remarkable about it; at all Thai restaurants, I ask for no or zero spices/heat, because, usually, there's more than enough for my taste, but, in retrospect, perhaps, even one level of heat might have been the way to go. This is my favorite Thai restaurant in town. If you are looking for authentic Thai food here is the place for you. I love to come to Mai Thai every time I am back in town. Last time I had chicken basil and asked them for Thai style. OMG!! They got it right!! Just like ka-praw-kai in Thailand. Service was great but a little bit slow I guess because they were so busy. Beware of friendly attitude til you get the bill. I asked for cabbage instead of bean sprouts in my Pad Thai. Server said 50 cents extra which is crazy since how cheap cabbage is. I agreed to pay the extra and when I got the bill the cabbage was 1.50 extra and on top of that they charged an extra 5 percent for using debit card. I told them they need to state on the door when you arrive that there is a 5 percent up charge for that. Should have walked out and let them eat my pad thai. I was hungry but will never return. I do not care how hungry I am. The best part is they really did not seem to care. There attitude was take it or leave it. Next time there will not be a next time. read more

First time trying this place. Highly let down. Vegetable spring rolls were more like a cucumber and carrot wrapped in a soft street taco. VERY small portions with very little meat and vegetables (we got the panang curry and massaman curry). No deep flavors that I usually get from a good Thai restaurant. Chicken pad Thai was ok at best. Satay chicken was good. Crispy won tons were ok. But they are fried, so it is hard to mess them up. I have had Thai in Washington, DC, Chicago, and Louisville, and this by far was lacking is many many aspects. The staff was very nice. Oh and it was my chosen dinner for my 50th birthday. read more

Mai Thai can produce masterpieces, but not every time. I don't know, but surely they have different chefs because I've had incredible pad Thai one day, and then so-so the next. But if you get it on the right day, it's just as good as the magic pad Thai produced by the amazing Promlarp Chantarwitoon who ran that little hole-in-the-wall Pad Thai on Tates Creek Centre years ago. I could be wrong but I believe this is the same owner or family as the restaurant Pad Thai, formerly in Tates Creek Shopping Center. Which is the best news I had heard in a time. Decor is simple and amazing, food is even better than when I first started going to the old restaurant closing in on twenty years ago. For our first foray we went with the old favorite of chicken pad thai, and was happily rewarded. I've been to so many other Thai restaurants since, trying to recapture this place... And none have matched up. My wife spent so many dates in the old one and very excited to spend even more here. Very happy we chose this one. Great decor and friendly family service. I ordered the green curry with scallops, Thai Hot, and it was really good, although it could have been a bit hotter, but I'm weird that way. Very rich and flavorful curry. This was my co-workers first time having thai and convinced him to get the red curry, just normal spice. He said it was really good and would get it again. My only complaint is that I wanted my green curry with fish but that was not an option. I'll come here whenever I'm back in Lexington! read more

We love Thai food and had wanted to try Mai Thai since it moved. We met friends on a Saturday night there and luckily were not on a hurry. There are kids as wait staff who seem really out of place. I think our dinners were delivered by a 10-year old (Not kidding). Finally the more knowledgeable waitress took over and at least we weren't ignored. But, we all really loved our food. We had some appetizers and different entrees and we were all happy with our dinners. Food took a long time, luckily we didn't care. We will go back but never when We're in a hurry. read more

I was so excited about the restaurant moving closer to me and my workplace, but I was highly disappointed by my recent visits. The first time I went for take out and was told it would be at least 30 minutes for takeout. The staff seemed overwhelmed. Got the chicken Thai basil. Very good. Ordered Thai different beers which were fine. It would be nice if they had a couple of local craft beers too. Service was good with the exception that it took a long time for my husband to get a 2nd beer. It came after we had almost finished eating. First time here, and I came for dinner. It was very enjoyable, and if you enjoy Thai food, I would definitely recommend it. The interior is very nice and clean. The waitress was very attentive. The spiciness level of my pad Thai was good but could have been a bit more for myself. I wasn't disappointed in anyway. I finally tried Mai Thai for take out after driving past it many times on Southland drive. The outside is pretty obscure but inside it is surprisingly nice. Nice seating arrangements, with tables adequately separated so you wouldn't have to shout or whisper, which a turn off for me in those places that think its cool to line up tables next to each other in a long univiting row. There are also booths around the perimeter and some tables on a patio. I would def come to eat-in some other time. Mostly glad to find a new take out place close to my house - not a lot of choices for non-fast food that's healthy and quick in the area and Bradford's barbeque is gone (sad!). I used to go to this place when it was on Limestone and didn't realize it was the same place. The food is still very good. Basil chicken and tofu pad thai were a great combination. Both really fresh, good portions, restaurant was clean and inviting. I didn't notice the smell other people had mentioned so hopefully that's gone. Easy to miss if you don't know where it is - I drove past twice even though I had looked it up on the map and had driven by it many times. I recommend here for both take out and dining in.
