I really like this little restaurant. It's tucked into a not very busy shopping plaza, and many people probably don't even know it's there though they've driven by it hundreds of times. It's a standard Thai menu (unfortunately, Thai restaurants don't have a flair for originality), but it's executed consistently well here. Dishes taste flavorful, things are cooked properly, and the food is delivered hot to the table, which I can't say for some of the other Thai places in the area. I've never had a problem with service, and have always found it friendly and attentive. The decor is a little kitschy, but in a good way - a lot of art pieces evoking Thailand. I really wish more people would discover this place. They've been putting out good food and service for years, but I'm always worried about its survival because it's never that busy. If you like Thai or Asian food, Mai Thai is definitely worth a visit. read more

I used to love going to Mai Thai. Today I went for the first time in a few years. I was told the restaurant closes at 3 pm. It was 2:20 pm, I did not see a problem. I was rushed to order. When I said I needed a moment with the menu, the server stood with his pad and pen waiting for me. As a server myself, maybe not seat people if you are going to close soon? Food was okay. The check was dropped a few minutes after receiving my meal and the server came to the table a couple of times seeking payment. I didn't finish my meal (time was 2:45-2:50 pm-ish) as I felt the restaurant wanted the remaining customers to leave so they could close. read more

We tried the special combination dinners, they come with a little of everything. I had the coconut soup and it was flavourful and very good. I had high hopes for the dinner after that and I was not disappointed. I tried the paradise pineapple curry and it was delicious. It was the right amount of spice and the sweetness of the pineapple balanced it well. The appetizer selection was good and the fresh fruit was a nice touch. The service was good. The waiter was able to answer our questions and was able to provide us with some good recommendations. Really great food and very reasonable prices! The service was quick and friendly (probably helped that we were just about the only 2 people in there, but still). The portions were large as well! I think reading through the reviews of this place would leave many confused. Either folks love it or hate it. We've had our fair share of Thai food, and can say it was just OK. Our group tried the pad Thai, drunken noodles and hot basil chicken, along with the sampler appetizer. The service was good, and the place was clean. Overall, nothing to rave over, just your middle-of-the-road Thai food. A note to the owners... it was a little disappointing to find you don't offer a full bar. I had assumed that with a name like "Mai Thai" that I'd be able to order a Mai Thai cocktail. I believe if you offered your patrons the option of a full bar, it would only benefit your establishment. Also, I know it's not normal for a Thai restaurant to offer, but creating a menu for kids would be a welcome addition as well. As parents, we are always hoping for a decent kids menu when dining out, especially when it comes to portion sizes (I certainly DON'T mean adding hamburgers or chicken nuggets!!!). I've been to Mai Thai a dozen times and ALWAYS get one of the same two things: drunken noodles or pad thai. They are simply the best in Milford. Some people prefer Taste of Thai in the green, but based on the couple of times I've been there, I'm not sold. That said, I am surprised Mai Thai is able to stay in business since whenever I go, my partner and I are the only patrons in the place. Maybe they do great take out business, I don't know... The inside is very nice and homey, and the staff are always nothing but friendly and attentive. I dropped a few stars because of the lack of ambiance (it is so quiet with no one else there!). One other thing, they need to seriously get rid of that awful bird chime in the front waiting area. Freaks me out every time. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

SLOW, SLOPPY, SWEET This has to be one of the WORST Thai restaurants in the Milford. Here is my rating: Environment - There is plenty of parking. Mai Thai is a medium size place, has about 20 tables/booths. The chairs looked old, tables bleak (dusty) Meals: 1. Rainbow Veggies -( I expected blanched veggies, with large cubes of tofu, in a light sauce.) Seriously, this should have been called soup. We had 6 pieces of dried out fried tofu in over boiled sauce, running off the plate. Soupy, Sweet, and overwhelming BAD. It was really bad. This was the worst Rainbow dish I have encountered ever! 2. Thai Sum Tum (papaya salad) - I expected fresh papaya, carrots, tomatoes, bean sprouts, string beans, dried shrimp, Thai Chilies, light fish sauce, a hint of lime juice, and a few peanuts) Mai Thai's version had plenty of fish sauce with over saturate veggies, in a very sweet sauce, no lime juice, no peanuts, and no shrimp. 3. Drunken Noodles -I expected broad rice noodles, fish sauce, garlic, tofu, bean sprouts, broccoli, peppers and onion with chicken. This dish had most of these ingredients but, by far, this dish killed my meal. The noodles were overcooked, in a very sweet sauce, very bad quality veggies, totally over cooked, tough chicken. This dish was totally ruined. No flavor. We complained to the manager all the dishes we ate, the slow service. he practically ignored my comments, except for saying he'll talk to his chef. Service: Very very bad. VERY SLOW, one waiter for the entire place. Not once did the server come back to refill our water, without being asked to. Overall experience. I hated there Thai food. Bad service, bad environment, and horrible food. I would never recommend this place to anyone! read more

Ordered take out on 3/25/20 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. I placed and paid for my order online through Yelp/GrubHub and everything was perfect. My food was ready early. I walked into the restaurant with a table barricade in the front. The man working was wearing gloves and a mask and placed my order on the table in front of me. I also noticed there was a cup for clean pens and used pens for those who may need to sign for their orders. There was also Purell available on the table. During this scary time I am thankful for people and businesses that do their part to keep everyone safe. I'm thankful I got to enjoy one of my favorite dishes from the comfort of my own home. My chicken Pad Thai was delicious as always. Thank you, Mai Thai for being open and doing what you can to make sure we're all safe during this time. I had the combination bento? Pineapple green curry chicken ,spicy and mouth wateringly amazing...And a side order of Crab Rangoon. meal also came w a salad, a big serving of 3 fresh fruits , spring roll and delicious spiced potato appetizer, and Rangoon. The best thai food within 30miles at least. I recently moved to the East coast from the Portland area and I have been put off by most Thai food places here. They are so good in Portland, I worked at one as well so I was always spoiled by the chefs. I felt like giving up on finding good Thai food in Connecticut. This place is so delicious. The atmosphere is relaxing, it always smells and looks clean, and there is enough parking. I believe the owners are the hosts/servers. The man whose name I believe is Neo, is pleasant all the time. We will really miss Mai Thai. The service and food are excellent! We've been to various parts of the US and I must say this is where I would want to go back for Thai food. We always get the green curry and Pad Thai, their sticky rice desserts are also delicious. The food is always fresh tasting, very well seasoned and visually appealing. We like the crab rangoon and spring rolls for appetizers and of course the aromatic and flavorful coconut soup. They always greet and provide service with a smile, always prompt and courteous. This place is called Mai Thai but don't be fooled, there's no Mai Tai's ;) haha they do have a small selection of beer and wine. My husband got a bottle of beer for $3!! Can't really beat that. The food is decent priced and a fairly good portion. The service was excellent. Everyone was super nice and we got our food within 10 minutes!!! The Pad See Ew was good but it lacked veggies! This was a nice enough restaurant and the server was nice, albeit slow given that there weren't a lot of people dining. I ordered the hot basil extra spicy (level 5) and it was very oily tasting without a lot of flavor. The Thai spring rolls were good, but were small bites instead of one or two rolls.
