The relationship with this business started out fine, but be warned--Jonathan, the owner/operator, is a two-faced, angry, and bitter old man beneath the surface. He initially came across as kind (though it turned out to be fake), but when I didn't purchase the relentless stream of products he pushed on me every time I checked my mail, his demeanor completely changed. He became very passive-aggressive, rude, and generally an unkind person to communicate with. The situation escalated to an unhinged outburst where he screamed and shouted at me in the most disrespectful way I have ever experienced. I have never been yelled at like that before. His anger was so extreme that one of his staff members, Tino, had to intervene, yelling at him and asking what the hell was wrong with him. The outburst was completely unprovoked--I had simply asked whether there was a more affordable mailing option for a package I was sending to my family. That said, his staff and wife, who also help run the business, are genuinely kind and helpful. Unfortunately, Jonathan himself seems burned out and unfit to run this business. He either needs to step away, entrust it to someone more capable, or shut it down altogether. The area that we are in is dealing with the closure of our post office. So for convenience we use the mailbox stores. Recently I noticed the prices were increased. You can't buy a single stamp anymore, letter size envelopes are being called packages to charge more. The service isn't that great for the prices you pay. It's not worth being overcharged. I had to go here as the local USPS offic is closed for construction and I needed to ship a flat rate package. When it was my turn to ship a guy assume is the owner demanded to see my id. I thought that was weird to be asked for id, especially since the person in front of me was not asked. He then insisted it was the law when shipping FedEx I had to show id. First I tried correcting him that it wasn't FedEx but USPS and shipping nearly weekly they have never once asked for an id. At this point he moves my package off the counter around a wall and out of reach again insisting he needs my id by law. "But don't worry he is not going to do anything with it" I did not feel comfortable handing over my ID to anyone that selectively inforces laws that don't exist even if I did have it on me (I didn't have it with me as I just changed before going out). He tells me I'm not shipping unless he gets it, so I say fine I'll go somewhere else. Instead of giving my package back he continues on about the I'd and how the other place is ignoring the law... The literal post office. I pressed again to return my package as he let me know it was a private business. Eventually I was able to get my package back to leave. I'm not one to jump to racism... But it's usually the case when you are brown and magical LAWs suddenly need to be inforced only on you. If I could give them 0 stars I would. First and last time I will come there, but guess that's exactly what he wants, so we both can be happy. read more

This is THEE place to get your passports renewed!! My family was planning on traveling internationally in less than two months. We were panicking a bit that we might not have enough time, but Wolf helped us get two passports renewed and we received them in a little over a week, which is CRAZY. In addition, we also needed to get a 1st time passport for our kid (I know. So last minute.) and were having trouble getting an appointment, but Wolf phoned someone at Burbank city hall and got us an appt within two days. I had to get my finger scan here. First of all, I've done years of finger scan and this place took do the live scan! I'm not sure if it was a guys first day of what but he a young white blonde guy with glasses doing my finger scan it took 20 mins for him to just check for the information. I should have known this was a red flag but I needed to go the nearest place. After that he did my finger scan he needed assistance from another employee. They do overcharge and they DOJ ended up rejected the live scan and had to re do it! If you are person that needs a live scan for work you need a live scan go elsewhere because this place slowed down my live scan process! this place really needs to train their staff better when dealing with this type of work! read more

An employee (Wolf, that's his name) sneakily up-charges for unnecessary photocopies when you get a Live Scan. He says, "I'll give you 2 copies of the paperwork for you and the employer," as if that's the normal paperwork you get. But then he charges you for the copies. He doesn't ask, "Would you like to buy extra copies of the paperwork?" When I realized I was charged for unnecessary photocopies without my knowledge, I asked about it. He got very aggressive and defensive. He was incapable of acknowledging that he could and should have asked if I wanted copies. He said, "I go by percentages, 99/9% of people we charge the copies for." Uh - that sounds like you regularly don't ask customers if they want extra copies, instead you decide for them. Exactly my point - that's a problem. His ego wouldn't admit or even acknowledge it. I wonder if he sneakily up-charges other services, too. I wonder if all employees do that here. In general this place is very overpriced. Never going back here. read more

I have been coming here for YEARS and Jonathan has always been quite aggressive about pushing his vocal remedies on me but very nice. Today I walked in and had to practically beg him to come over to assist me. When I asked him about a couple of products, he just gave me grunts as answers, and when I finished paying, he handed me the receipt without looking up at me, already turning his body away to walk towards the back. I hadn't been here in about a year, but even if he didn't remember that I was a good customer in the past, he was EXTREMELY nasty to me. I have sent people to him and have brought people in with me to see the "Vocal Dr" so, there is no mistake that I have brought business to him over the years! Before I left, I said "nice doing business with you again", just to see what his response would be. He LITERALLY grunted at me without even looking in my direction! Honestly, I don't know what's going on with him, (I know everyone has bad days). I don't know why it seemed like such an effort for him to sell me one of his products, but I am extremely put off to the point where I don't know if I will ever give him my business again. Part of the reason why I come to see him is because I like to support small local businesses, even if they do charge more, (and he certainly does charge a LOT more), but if he is going to treat his customers like THIS, I'll just get my vocal remedies from Amazon (where they are cheaper) from now on. FYI... there is a USPS, a UPS, and a FedEx very close by, right in the neighborhood. You could easily get your business done at those places instead, without the nasty attitude. I've dropped off a lot of packages through the years and I can say with great certainty that I have never once been charged to seal a box with a little tape. When I went into Mailbox Toluca Lake to drop off a package, I asked a guy for one slice of tape to go over the top of the box to seal it. He said "it's going to cost about a buck or two". When I questioned it he said, I said, "yeah tape isn't free." A buck or two? What the hell is that! I pulled out one dollar bill and he took it. This tape charge wasn't on my receipt. I needed to drop off already labeled packages (UPS & USPS). I was out of my area, so I googled this place, and called them to be sure that they would take the packages. They told me yes. When I arrived there, they said they didn't take USPS packages and they were going to charge me a couple of dollars per UPS package just for me to drop them there. Crazy. read more

Jonathan and his team are fantastic. They couldn't have been more accommodating (and patient) in helping me. I needed to have a document (15 pages) notarized in several places; then I needed to make a copy of said document; then I needed to mail the entire document to Canada. Several hours later, I learned that I had addressed the envelope to the wrong address. In a panic, I called Jonathan if the documents I left with them had been mailed yet - they had not, and he held it for me until I could return and put the correct mailing address on it. Instead of charging me a whole new envelope, postage, etc. he "worked around it" by covering up my mistake with a new label for me to fill in. In short, they went above and beyond to help me. I agree completely with Leo G's review. Very similar scenario. I've been to this place a few times to get a Notary. I came by last week to get another document notarized (a photocopy of my passport made on the premises and then notarized.) Notary's take less than 2-3 minutes. Stamp the document, write in a book /fingerprint, and sign the document. I came in at 6:02pm. Their door was opened. Jonathan (the owner) claimed they just closed. Now, I had no problem with this. Typically when a retailer is done for the day they lock their doors and let out the customers in the store out one by one. In this case, no one was in the store. I did not need to be shamed for coming in right when they closed. Less shaming and more efficiency would have been the solution. Then Jonathan continued that he couldn't because he's been awake since 4am... blah blah lbah, has to take his daughter to college the following day and going on and on about his personal life. Then he told me that he would ask another the other guy who may want to make money. Other guy comes to the front. It goes back and forth with how he will do it etc.. I offered to show him the scan I had on my phone how Jonathan did the prior one 2 months ago.). However, I guess the minute for me to retrieve that was too overwhelming. It went back and forth like this for about 6 minute to the point they finally changed their minds again and couldn't do it. I find this behavior inappropriate and disrespectful. In case they forgot, they may want to look up the word business and adjust their behavior accordingly. Also, I believe the more effective way of handling a repeat client would have been with more consideration. I will not go back to this place. Furthermore, the bank up the block that recommends this store will be hearing about this when I go back to as no business deserves a referral when they treat clients like this. read more

Terrible. This place is way overpriced with painfully slow service and employees who seem weirdly angry at all the customers. I wanted to make a simple purchase and it seemed to be a huge burden for the employees, as if they'd never had to work before. Really negative attitudes all around. Also, several of the employees were not wearing masks in the middle of a pandemic so I left as quickly as possible. Yes, I paid for this place to tape my box. I first thought it's odd but didn't say anything. I ran to my car and grabbed my wallet; so I didn't question it and agreed to pay right away. After coming back from my car, the lady helping me proceeded to say they have minimum for credit card and that I needed to buy something from their store to be able to pay AFTER she had already taped my box which let me with no option but to buy something. Mistakenly came here to get a document notarized vs going to the ups store right up the road. The sales associate was rude with lack of customer service. The sales associate started saying inappropriate statements about individuals not working who are receiving stimulus checks from the government. I am an AA female and was completely unsure why he felt the need to have that conversation with me. As an individual who is happily employed with a doctorate degree with two parents who are retired physicians the statements were offensive. The owner needs to train his current associates who lacks etiquette and professionalism. The ups store right up the street provides much better service. read more
