We have been on a bit of an ice cream and shaved ice expedition lately. Since we are often on the west side, this was next on our list. They building, at the beginning of a residential street, is covered in beautiful artwork can be a little misleading as the name does not match what on yelp but we could still tell we were in the correct place. It is a small superette that also offers shave ice and ice cream and other treats. The auntie that took our order was adorable and took our whole order at one time (6 of us) but still in standard shave ice order (size, ice cream, flavor, toppings) and then made our entire order before serving the next guest. She did have a young man helping her. The shave ice itself is nothing extraordinary but the artwork on the cups is beautiful and the shave ice still serves its purpose after a beach day. read more

Stopped here after a fun beach day at Makaha. I got a halo halo and my wife got a shave ice with ice cream. Both were delicious. The ice was shaved fine like snow. The ube ice cream was good and they were generous with the condensed milk. Mmmm. Mike and his wife were super friendly and gave us a good dinner recommendation. OMG, finally got to try Maile Shave Ice (it's Maile, NOT Maili)!! Called them to make sure they were open before venturing over and, yes, I was assured they were there!! Took us about 15 minutes to drive there, but for delicious shave ice, that's no problem! The older gent at the store was welcoming and friendly. Asked us if we were visiting or if we were local. Told us about his time in Southern California for school years ago. Really nice and friendly guy. As always, I ordered my shave ice with vanilla ice cream. When he started scooping up the ice cream, I was floored by the amount he put in the cups! It was a full scoop and a half! Where's the shave ice going to go? Well, he carefully mounded the powder snowlike shave ice on top of all that ice cream and poured on the syrup. I had passionfruit, pineapple, and strawberry. My husband had cherry, pineapple, and strawberry. Wow, it was fantastic! One of the best shave ices we've had on this trip. Well worth the time, effort, and gas!! read more

There's a large variety of flavors to choose from for shaved ice. I got a medium ($3.50) with watermelon, pog, and lemon lime. My favorite was the lemon lime, but the other flavors were good as well. My only complaint was that there didn't seem to be enough syrup. When I was about halfway through, I started seeing some ice that wasn't colored (i.e. it was unflavored). This is a great spot for a post-hike snack after doing the Maili Pillbox hike nearby! My friends and I also tried their butter mochi. However, the shaved ice not only is it pretty easy on the wallet but damn it's a great shaved ice. It's like base is snow cone-ish but that snow cap adds a nice smooth, snow ice type texture as well. Best local shaved ice spot I've ever tried. With a heavy hand the auntie scooped fresh vanilla ice cream that was super creamy on top I got bubble gum, banana and cotton candy syrup. We were on the west side looking for some shaved ice and the only one that came up on Yelp This place is definitely off the beaten path. If it wasn't for yelp and the app with directions I am pretty sure it would be very difficult finding this place because you can't see it from Farrington Highway. If you are driving towards Waianae it's right before the 76 station in Maili. Building is painted with vibrant colorful paint... cool touch... the outside has a few run down tables and chairs. The inside is a shave ice stand and a small convenience store with very limited selections of frozen food and drinks. The staff wasnt exactly warm and friendly. I almost got the impression we was disturbing him... His wife? seemed a bit forthcoming. Shave ice was mediocre at best (lacked syrup throughout) but still hit the spot. A cool little hole in the wall and just about the only place to get shaved ice on this side. read more

Local shave ice spot that's attached to a market. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to try it but if you're in the area it's worth dropping by. I ordered a passion fruit and guava shaved ice with the snow cap. Must get a snow cap otherwise it's pretty plain tasting. After doing Pink Pillbox and Kalo Bombs was sold out we found this place a block away from where we were parked for the pink pillbox hike. You can't miss it with the mural on the wall and there is parking right in front of the mural. They only allow 4 people inside the store due to COVID. They also have regular food items to purchase and they ask that you pay before consuming the food. The older gentlemen is super sweet and was talking to my friend about Alaska because she was wearing her UAA mask. I ended up getting li hing and passion fruit. The li hing didn't have a strong li hing taste but it was still good. The ice was soft and melted in our mouth. If we're ever on that side of the island we'll be back! read more

Off the main drag, but worth finding. This place is definitely on of my top 3 shave ice places. The ice is super soft and fluffy. The flavor syrups have intense flavor and are kept cold so they don't melt the ice as much when put over ice. This seems to make a big difference in flavor and texture of the ice. The cold syrup resulted in very little melted ice in the cup as you eat the shave ice. I had a 3 flavor shave ice and my wife had a snowcap with ice cream. Both were superb. read more

Seems to be somewhat off the beaten path. We just completed the Pillbox hike and wanted to treat ourselves to a shaved ice. This place has a lot of character as well as an Instagram-able mural and entry. There are grandma vibes today. That is, a sweet grandma is welcoming you into her home and making you shaved ice and has home made Rice Krispie treats wrapped in Saran Wrap waiting for you. The prices are very reasonable. While my friend was staying w us in nanakuli I suggested we stop here one day for shave ice, she prefers Matsumoto in Haleiwa but there was a few days we couldn't make that drive so we came here and she loved it, she's the shave ice expert. It's now on her list to come back to during future visits back home. Same owners as 76 gas station just keep driving in2 the neighborhood pass 76 gas station (Hookele st). Yes it's off the main road (Farrington Hwy). Look for the bright yellow house and you arrived. It's an ole mom n pop shop. I havnt been here in yrs since b4 it was painted bright yellow. Few benches outside to sit and enjoy those cool treats b4 getting back on the road. Inside has changed its pretty dark now. They have a lil market area, cold drinks, snacks and a few baked goods at the register. The shave ice, halo halo and ice cream is our go to tho. Havnt tried their halo halo yet hopefully oneday. The young boys working that day was very nice and patient there was four of us and 2 of us are indecisive lol.
