This comes as no surprise. This places is always worth it and I come AT LEAST once a week. I genuinely don't believe that you can have better quality ice for this price point. The shave ice is smooth and creamy and doesn't have an "icy" consistency if you know what I mean. They have great flavor options for both syrup and ice cream flavors. The sizes are true to what you order, and it doesn't melt too quickly if you eat at a consistent pace. The employees are always kind and helpful, and always help me make syrup options when I want to try something new. Fair warning. The waiting space inside is limited and they can get BUSY. Another stop on our Shave Ice Expeditions. In fact we went twice again in a short period of time. We went to the Makaha store tho I know I have been to the truck in Waikele probably a decade ago. But this place is great. Again, staff is efficient. The keiki is the best size for all of us because really who needs that much. I always sugar crash after. I have a hard time recommending flavors as we all have our own personal taste buds but I will say I dont see enough difference in the "cream" flavors for the upcharge. The ice texture is nice and soft how we like but again with that you have a bigger chance syrup wont make it all the way to the middle. Again, not a deal breaker for me unless its really bad. The root beer met my daughters approval which means its actually good. I like that they layer the toppings in the middle and on top. So I could get a good ration of mochi and shave ice all the way through my experience. Mountain Magic in Makaha is a pretty great place to get shave ice because they have such unique flavors. I tried the lychee cream and the lava flow flavors and I liked the lychee cream a lot. I'd get that again for sure. It's located in a littel shopping plaza, right on the corner, but the trees are kinda blocking it from the street, so just trust your GPS and go slow. It's hard to miss once you're inside the parking lot. The little shop sells other kinda touristy things to buy, but I think most people are coming here for the shave ice. There was a bit of a line when we went, but it moved quickly. You order and pay and pick up at the register. It looks kinda squishy behind the register and the workers weren't very friendly. The ice is soft and I'd be willing to make the drive to try other flavors. If only the workers were a little nicer, I'd ask for flavor suggestions. read more
