Me and the best friend went here on a sunny day around 1pm, it was a hot weekend so we wanted to cool down and support more local businesses. Since we live on the west side, we are much closer to Kalo Bombs than everyone else that lives in town hehe. Its located in this brown building where Country side cafe is located and right next to Deluxe nail and spa, you will find a tiny window on the left side of the building and you will see butterfly wings painted on the wall where the shop is located. The line wasn't too bad, we waited only 10minutes but I was observing and I only see one guy working there. I give him props because its very hard to run the whole operation by yourself especially dealing with possible impatient haoles and locals lol. Anyway, you just wait in line, order, then you stand there and wait for your order to made for you on spot. I've been wanting to try this place for so long but I've been hesitant to make the drive. Luckily, I finally got to try them at the Oahu Foodies Feastival this past Friday. The service was friendly and quick. Their ube bomb was the BOMB! It has Pa'i'ai with ube ice cream and ubae cookie crumbs topped with ube drizzle and niu flakes. We arrived about 5 minutes after they were scheduled to open (11:00) and noticed a long line. When we got closer other customers were on their phone attempting to get in contact as their window was closed. Around 11:20 two girls arrived and shared they would be opening in 5-10 minutes. We continued to wait for 10 minutes as they set up their open sign and open flag which seemed a little ironic as they did not open their window until 5 minutes after that. Once they opened they set out their tip jar which was annoying as we had already been waiting 30 minutes past their posted open time. We ordered and shared the Fruit Bomb which was pa'i 'Ai, coconut flakes, haupia ice cream and bananas. The bowl is a little pricey at $11.50, but the quality of the pa'i 'Ai is outstanding. The first bite was heavenly. So earthy, sweet, delicious. The bananas really set the whole thing off, too! I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it considering I don't care for poi, and kulolo is hit or miss for me. But this pa'i 'Ai was delicious! They have different specials on a board, including what sounded interesting to me: Oreo Bomb and a bomb that even had smoked meat! I would be curious to try the savory variation. I checked their instagram to see if they sold out and they didn't. I waited at the front window for about 8-10 minutes. I seen people around the back hanging out and it smelt like people were smoking. I decided to call and someone finally answers and I ask if they're open and I can hear a girl in the background saying something along the lines of "oh is that the one in the front." So one you guys CAN see me, two you guys just decide not to open the window and check if I'm gonna order? They say they're open and I order but as the girl opens the window theres another girl and she's spraying something in the shop which furthers my assumption they were probably smoking out the back. Still, I ventured on. For sweets, I will. So, to say it was a journey would be pretty accurate IMO. I'm not very familiar with spots this far West, but with maps it was easy. Its on the main road so nothing confusing at all. Parking is a plenty so no probs there. I went early so maybe that could help. Only because of my appointment I was there before opening. By 11am, the line was already well established. Don't sleep on it, especially if you have to travel far. You don't wanna get there and they've sold out! The regular size is easily shared. Might be a good idea instead of trying to bring it home. I ate what I could when I got to the car but I still had 75% left and tried to rush home so my fam could have a taste too. It wasn't the best idea because when I threw it in the freezer, the pa'i'ai became hard so I had to leave it out til that thawed enough... It was still good, just harder to enjoy. Lesson learned. If you go after lunch...unless you have a large appetite...you will bomb your stomach and quite possibly the toilet. The Pa'i'ai is as reviewers on Yelp mentioned, a cross between Poi and Kulolo. And as someone wrote; the Pa'i'ai cuts some of the sweetness from the ice cream - a choice amongst Haupia ( my afternoon selection), Kulolo, or Ube. Coconut cream and flakes top off this dessert. Delicious! I saw this place on my friend's IG story a few days ago, and we happened to be driving on the west side and I noticed the store, so we made it a point to visit when they opened at 12pm. They opened a little bit earlier, but by the time it was 12, there was already a line - a great sign of a good business! We got the Keiki Bomb ($7- 6oz) which comes with Haupia or Kulolo ice cream pa'i'ai, coconut cream, and coconut shavings, along with a 1/2 pound of pa'i'ai ($10) to take home for my sister. The Keiki Bomb was delicious - the ice cream wasn't too sweet but was still extremely rich and refreshing, and the pa'i'ai (which I've never had before) helped to cut some of the sweetness of the ice cream and coconut cream, and had an interesting texture - thicker and chunkier than poi, and not sour like poi. read more
