Went there for the first time yesterday after living in the area for 4 years . Ordered the Carolina burger with fries. Ordered burger medium well. It came out burnt and my burger was very thin and had burnt grilled marks. ( Not fresh!!) I go out to eat all the time and I would have to say a frozen burger and frozen fries this is the first at a restaurant!!!!On my plate of fries there were a lot of crumbs. ( crumbs that would be at the bottom of the bag of frozen fries!!) If I wanted a frozen burger I could have made that my self. However I make fresh burgers not frozen. My husband ordered the burrito. It took awhile to come out and they were not busy. I paid over $40.00 with a tip for a frozen burger and fries!! The burrito was not fresh either. The garnish of rice and beans and corn not fresh either. You're a pub. You should have great food!!! The only thing I can think of is people are drunk and then anything tastes good. read more

Slow service had to remind server to get drink and food took an hour, burnt medium rare steak, half the tables food came out while the other half waited another 10m - this was well over an hour to even get the first round of basic food. They were not busy at the time either. We had finished a campus tour of GVSU, and decided to grab a bite to eat. The pub was close, so we e gave it a try. I would call our experience the tale of two eats. The appetizers were very good and definitely set the stage for what we were having for lunch. However, the lunch itself was awful. My wife order the blackened chicken Alfredo pasta and it had to be the most lackluster, flavorless dish on the menu it tasted like they threw butter over some noodles and topped it with chicken. I had the pub dip sandwich, and it had so much fat and gristle that I spit out half of it. One of my daughters had the Margherita flatbread, and the sliced tomatoes were still green!! My other daughter had the pub burger and she said it was ok. Our server never checked on the quality of our meal or asked how things were, which is part of their job! I'm on a bad streak!! All you can eat fish on Sundays! First batch of fish was WAY overdone. Second batch came out. Better but still WAY over cooked! MOD super nice! So, there's a global pandemic. My family and I used to go to this restaurant often till the food started to lack badly. Tonight we ordered from them to help support them during the pandemic. When we got the order home we noticed things were missing from the order. Simple things. Like the chicken from the pecan chicken salad. (The salad was remade and one of my family went. And got it) The chili that was to go with the clam basket and the extra tarter sauce that is clearly on the receipt. The sunrise burger used to be amazing. Tonight it lacked flavor and the hash brown was completely brown/black crunchy. Definitely will not be ordering out from them or going in once restaurants reopen fully. The service was horrible. Waited over 45 minutes to get our food. Others seated 30 minutes after arrival were served well ahead of us. Ordered the special bbq pulled pork with ham and onion straws. It was dry and looked liked it was microwaved way too long. My wife had a chicken salad. The chicken was like hard rubber and the grapes on the salad were rotten. We've been here a few times now. The negative reviews we read on Yelp seem silly. It's a bar and grill and they have all the things you would expect them to have. Burger menu is huge and quality is great. I had a burrito once, it was good and huge (if that matters to you.) They don't have much by the way of wings, if you're looking for that you'll be a little disappointed. They have ample seating so, rarely a wait for a table. We had to wait once on a Friday night for like 15 min, no big deal. As long as you aren't expecting a Michelin Star dining experience this place should satisfy your burger and beer needs just fine. read more

I held my son's wedding rehearsal dinner in their private "falcon" room downstairs for 44 people. Food, drinks, room setup and service were outstanding. Had so many positive comments from everyone there. It is such a fair price, and they gave us great attention before and during the event. They even printed up a special menu for our event. Many people don't realize that they have a private room downstairs, but this is a GREAT option for anyone that needs a private room event. read more

My mother and I were moving my daughter into her new apartment, 48 West. She suggested we try this restaurant. We were greeted by the hostess and seated immediately. Mathew B. was our server he was extremely helpful. We had tons of questions about the food and always asked what his personal preference was. He was on point with everything he suggested! We couldn't have been happier with the food and service! I had been here once, dined in, and the food was good-this was a year ago. I decided to order tonight for family and friends. We ordered 6 meals. Everyone was disappointed. We ordered sides of mayo, bleu cheese, ranch, and honey mustard and didn't get any of them. The bread on sandwich I got wasn't really toasted and didn't taste fresh. The fries weren't good. The Pub is a great place to go in Allendale. What I like about it is that it seems to cater to both the college crowd all the way to Grandma and Grandpa. They really have something for everyone! They have a bar area that can be a bit louder and a regular sit down restaurant area. The food is all great and priced well. You can have anywhere from a soup and sandwich to a burger to prime rib or a burrito. Tuesday nights are karaoke and there is a lot of fun to be had. There is a lot of really talented people in the area! We go there regularly and will continue! Great place to eat! read more

I spent a lot of time at the Main Street Pub during my college years. It's the place to go on a Friday or Saturday night for drinks with friends late at night when you don't feel like heading downtown. It's also a place where you can bring your parents and sit down for a nice dinner. I always enjoyed the portabella sandwich or the BLT. I did try some of their entrees, and was never impressed. Stick with the pub food. The fried pickles are also delicious. They have pool tables and darts in the bar, and karaoke on a weeknight. It's a great place to gather a group, and we spent a lot of birthdays here. After moving away to DC, I'm shocked by the value for the food. $6 for a dinner is nearly impossible to find here in DC unless you're eating fast food. It's make me homesick for the Pub some days. Even when we come back into town, we still usually wrangle a group together to meet at the pub to reunite for food, drinks and fun. read more

Ever wish you could go back and re-live a little bit of that college excitement in a somewhat lively atmosphere with a young wait staff? Like moderately priced food with decent portions? Then have I ever got the place for you. Main St Pub located right in Allendale by GVSU. It's basically a cookie cutter with all the good qualities of the above mentioned restaurants and an environment all its own. The interior is something like a toned down version of Applebees with about 8,000% less junk on the walls and a little bit more class. For those who are looking for a bit more busy place to get their grub on, you can walk past the dining area and go seat yourself in the bar... complete with big screen televisions, a digital jukebox, pool table, darts, and a fully stocked bar. The food is pretty standard fare, but it's all done incredibly well. Burgers are burgers like anywhere else, but the Blackened Chicken Pasta Bake and the wraps they offer seem to be a few steps ahead of the game to some of their competition. Everything on the menu is clearly spelled out as far as its ingredients goes, so if it sounds like it's good... then chances are you'll be satisfied with it. Everything I've had here is pretty good with a few exceptions that weren't so bad I actually remembered what they were (sorry!). But why does it get four stars? The "late night" specials that start at 9pm on most nights. Each night of the week one menu item is given a price cut and served up like royalty. Tuesday nights you can score a half pound burger for only $2.99! Adding fries is only $0.50 more! Try that at any other "real" restaurant. Tremendous values like this will easily raise this place's value in my eyes any day. The service here is usually spot on as well. If you're a regular, you can count on that extra special attention, so long as the hostess at least recognizes you - apparently they pass the word along. Of course, if you're an average Joe walking in the service is nothing spectacular, but it's pretty good for being run by a bunch of college students. You can't ask for too much more, honestly. Reasonable prices, slightly above average food, and your pick between a slightly noisy bar or a more relaxed dining area make this place worth multiple visits. The late night specials are the ultimate cherry on top of this brownie sundae to me, as I know it gave me some great memories with some good friends through my college career. As one of the original bars around for the ever expanding Allendale area, it may not be the best, but it gets props for starting things off on an extremely good foot. read more

My favorite thing about The Pub is how close it is to GVSU. This makes it an easy place to go after moving your little sister into college or when parents come to visit you at college and take you out to dinner, especially because it isn't too expensive (it is possible to get out under 10$ a person if you don't get soda). The atmosphere is nice enough and the food is equally proportionate in its tastiness/size to price ratio. The waitresses are nice and usually do a good job. We have spent 1000-1500 minimum there, theses kids are just trying to make it on what little bit they have by car pooling. Keep in mind these kids are there 2-3 times a week plus we come in and buy dinner for them at least once a week. Well I may have to spend 250, for having her car towed from your parking lot, but nothing compared to how much you are going to loose from all of our family and friends plus all of there friends!!! Certainly one of the few places to eat in the Allendale area. Lots of TV screens and Keno to enjoy. As far as the food goes it is pub food. The entrees are terrible. I ordered fajitas and they were still swimming in oil. On another occasion I ordered a burger that came out to me raw. The manager then proceeded to tell me that we have different ideas of what "medium" is. The burger came out two minutes later scorching hot with my bite still taken out of it. Service is usually terrible expect a few minutes after getting seated for you to order your drinks. Friendly staff but they are not good at what they are supposed to do.
