Ambiance is 100% diner, but lots of bigger tables which would be perfect for a brunch after/before church or with a larger group. The prices were excellent and portions were huge. Village Inn was one of our favorite places for breakfast/brunch under the previous owners and were really excited they opened again! While they are under new owners, it is still very similar to the "original". The menu is smaller, more expensive and had some interesting additions. I had the Southwest Hasbrowns made with taco meat and they were delicious. I added 2 over easy eggs to make it more breakfast-y. Jeff had Southwest burrito and it was also really good! I do miss the liquor license and having a delicious Bloody Mary at brunch. Like almost every other restaurant in the area, they were definitely lacking staff. The tables around us were REAL mad about how long their food was taking - one couple walked out before the food was delivered. There were 2 people working the whole dining room, and they were doing every thing they could. This has been a recurring theme in the area. If you have been to a restaurant in the past couple of months, you have experienced this first hand. We'll go back, but not real soon. read more

I decided to go to VI for the breakfast special. It's getting pretty difficult to find an inexpensive place to go for breakfast. It wasn't that long ago, before covid, that I could afford to go out and get breakfast everyday before work. Those days are behind me. Even McD's is like $8 for a fast food breakfast. I got the special at Village Inn, they have a few of them on the dry-erase board. I'm assuming they update them daily or every so often. The servers will not tell you about them and they are not on the menu, so you have to read the board before you order. I got a basic 2 eggs, bacon and toast, with coffee. A little more than $8 plus tip. So you can't complain considering this is a sit down restaurant and not a QSR. Service could of been a bit better as she seemed to hang out in the front dining room most of the time. If you haven't been here, give it a try. read more

This is the only diner in town. There are other places to eat, but this is your best bet for sit-down family meals. Prices are good. They have a $5 early bird breakfast special. I was there on a Friday, so I got the perch dinner. 2 pieces of fish, plus fries. I added cole slaw ($2). Fries were mediocre, but everything else was okay. Only two waitresses in a crowded lunch time restaurant that included two tables of old people. Usually that slows the place down, but not the day I was there. Service was friendly and prompt. I wanted to break the habit of Anna's, Morningstar and others in Grand Haven. Village Inn is superb. The wait wasn't too bad for a weekend so I almost hate to give a good review for fear it will get more crowded. Food was excellent with plenty standard breakfast selections. Service was even better and the entire staff was friendly and helpful. Coffee refills were plentiful and portions were generous. Awesome breakfast! I had their homemade corned beef hash omelette with a side of American fries with onions. They did a good job with the omelette for a flat top grill. The corned beef hash was very good some of the best I have had! I highly recommend this restaurant. I was out with the guys at work. Over the last few months, the food has been disappointing. Earlier this week, I had tomato basil soup which had a very thick consistency along with an order of onion rings which had thick batter and clumped together. Took my mother out to eat on November 18th. I ordered breakfast special and on top of that I ordered 4 banana and strawberry pancakes. The eggs bacon and hash browns were very good but the pancakes which was original reason I came to ihop was horrible. Every bite was like eating a clump of dough which had a bland taste. The toppings were very delicious. In order to choke down the pancakes you had to smother every bite with toppings cause of the clumpy blandness. I don't know if it was just a bad cook day or if that's a regular thing at this restaurant either or I wish I had ordered something different the the pancakes that day. I am hoping it was a bad cook day cause i would like to have a better experience than what I had at this restaurant. The staff were slow at the start even though we were only ones at the restaurant we had expected better service. The waitress was very cheerful. I'd give her a 5 star rating. Very nice lady. If it wasn't for the good service from the waitress bi would've gave this restaurant a 1 star rating. Thank you mam for the positive effect you had on our day. read more
