I didn't plan on writing a review of this mainstay cafe in Newport. In fact, I had many pleasurable experiences there years ago (10+ years) and was excited to meet an old friend for lunch who had suggested the eatery. So because this was a meet-up, I did not take any pictures of my food. My experience was so lacking from years ago, that afterwards I felt I needed to share it sans photos. The staff was extremely friendly and the food came out quickly. It was the quality that was lacking. I'm sure there have been many changes in chefs/cooks over the past decade, but these staples: bowl of chili and sweet potato fries were just lacking. Both have been on the menu since I used to go there long ago. The chili was watery- almost like a tomato soup with a bit of beef. Toppings were nice: sour cream, onions, cheddar cheese. The sweat potato fries were overdone and a smaller portion for the price, but I understand the cost issues restaurants face today, so I had no problem with the price. The side pineapple sauce tasted just like it did years ago, so I was happy with that consistency. I'm hoping this was just an off day for the kitchen staff. If you're wanting the best burger in Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky this is the place to come they have specials everyday homemade desserts. I have been coming here for years and will continue to come. If you get bad food or service here it's definitely because somebody does not like you I've never had anything that did not like here. This is a tiny establishment that has been around more than 20 years. It's family owned and they have a huge variety. It's a town favorite with plenty of parking. My turkey Ruben will never be the same without the apple dipping sauce that is so good. The girls are great servers and so kind! It's a super casual family place. read more

My wife and I have attempted twice to dine and we're not happy with the service. First off neither time were we greeted with a hi/hello or even a how are doing.upon our first visit we were told it would be 30 to 40 minutes however this was during the week and there were many tables with no guests.The most recent time we received the same greeting and very rude young lady, took my wife and I to a table and just put the menu on the table and walked away. Appetizers were great and so is the service. We ordered several appetizers before our lunch. The Mac and Cheese was very thick and creamy. The onion rings were crispy, hot, and delicious! The show stealer was the coleslaw though. I am usually not a fan of restaurant coleslaw because it usually is just cabbage in watery mayo. (You know what I'm talking about!) Not this stuff. Actually has flavor! We also ordered a reuben sandwich to split. We got both sauces but personally I thought it tasted better with mustard. Some brown or spicy mustard would have been better. You'll need some kind of sauce for the sandwich though. The bread was nicely toasted. We ended with a piece of the Italian Lemon Cream Cake. Place was not crowded. Service was slow. Was told there was a rush. No rush was visible. Burgers, beers, mozzarella sticks, and kids meals were not worth the price. $98 for three adults and 2 kids before tip. Ordered the black and blue special that included bacon and grilled onions on the burger and chips. Burger came out without the grilled onions. It was the classic that took a while to get corrected because the waitress didn't come back. We usually enjoy The Main Street Cafe however tonight was a strikeout. read more

My Mr has been here three times and raves about Main Street Cafe. I've been here 10 years ago and forget what I got but remembered that I had no complaints. Time to revisit. Went for lunch and they definitely follow the 6 foot rule and social distancing with the seating. Especially at the bar where we ended up sitting. They had very limited seating and didn't want to sit at a small table. Also, they sanitize the counters, tables and all employees are wearing masks. Our bartender was super friendly and very attentive. I started off with a glass of Noble Vines Cabernet Sauvignon and my Mr got a pint of Blue Moon. For lunch I ordered the Boursin Cheeseburger ($8.00) loaded with lettuce, pickles, Mayo and onion. It comes with chips, but subbed it for shoestring fries ($2.75). My Mr ordered a Rueben sandwich (you can choose between thousand island dressing or their house dressing) packed with corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut on Toasted Rye Bread $7.75. Chips also comes with his meal. We got our meals less than 15 minutes. Wow! My burger was juicy and cooked to perfection. The Boursin cheese was amazing. I was going to give a portion of my burger to my Mr but I ended up leaving him two bites. It was that good. The fries was hot and not greasy. I tried my Mr's sandwich and the house dressing went well with the sandwich. A hint of sweetness that complimented well with rueben. Can't go wrong with sweet/salty. Overall the experience and service was awesome. I am glad we had lunch here. Definitely want to come back and actually get a rueben sandwich for myself. read more

Main Street Café knows what it is and doesn't shy away from that. The menu is small, a little predictable, but done well. If you're in the mood for a bowl of chili, a burger, or my personal favorite the buffalo chicken sandwich, you can't go wrong here. Because I only ever end up here at lunch time, though, I do wish there were one or two more vegetable-forward or just lighter things on the menu. A burger and fries in the middle of the day is not necessarily conducive to my afternoon productivity! I hadn't been here in years after I got honked-off for paying $5.75 for five onion rings they (then) had on "Special". Probably 5+ years later, now, onion rings are apparently on their normal menu. I decided to give them another shot, and they were at least a dollar cheaper. Upon walking into the restaurant tonight I was immediately smacked in the face with a very sour smell. This smell was the smell of a dish towel that has gone sour, but all throughout the place. Whew!! I was surprised there were people sitting in that stink. I just hoped my nose got used to it before I ate anything. They have 12 taps, I'd say about 50% locals, and no special/seasonal locals (unless you count Sam Adams). Bottle/can selection was pretty bad, existing in a land prior to craft brewers, most exotic being Stella Artois or Yuengling Light. Food was akin to their "sister restaurant," Zip's. Menu was fairly similar, burgers, metts, sandwiches, chili, fries, simple salads, Onion Rings, etc. Boursin burger is not something you'll find at Zip's, and it was pretty good! (Though the Boursin wasn't melted in, just kind-of scooped on top). Ambiance here is pretty simple/country style. This building used to be someone's home, I assume, as it looks like a house, and the rooms are about the size that you'd fine in one's home. Not my most gleaming review, but it wasn't necessarily bad, it wasn't necessarily good either. Though the service was good and attentive, putting them over the 50% hill for a 3 stars rating. I'd be back, but if I walked in and smelled that sour stink again, I'd turn right back around, not to return. Hopefully that was an anomaly! read more

I've been hearing about Main Street Cafe for months from a co-worker and I was finally able to go to MSC during a work trip yesterday afternoon - and the hype was real! My co-worker (and others) have sworn by the chocolate cake at MSC and I was worried with all of the hype that it wouldn't live up to expectations. Wrong. It was totally worth it. The cake is very thick and is also topped AND filled with a thick, delicious chocolate frosting that is out of this world. I devoured the large piece of cake despite being full from my lunch. My eyes won the battle over my stomach. :) For my actual lunch, I got the Texas Onion burger - which was good. The onion ring had great flavor, as did the southwest sauce. I just feel like it was still missing something. I added a side of fries, which were standard shoestring fries. Perhaps, I will get a different side next time to add to my meal. Our service was great and we were seated immediately. As a funny side note, I was definitely the youngest patron here this day by about 50 years. :) read more

A classic all-American diner done RIGHT is how I'd begin to describe Main Street Cafe in Newtown, OH. Great spot for lunch, dinner with the family, or a date night with that special someone. That place itself isn't big at all, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in character and flavor. Anyone could feel right at home with the cozy seating and super friendly staff. They have an excellent beer selection if you wanna start out with a good craft brew. Their menu isn't large but features great selections that anyone can enjoy. Sandwiches, salads, burgers, pasta, chili, and more. I stopped by here for a quick lunch and was definitely impressed from the start. I took a seat at the bar, where the bartender quickly greeted me with a smile, asking if it was my first time. I said yes, and he told me the specials of the day, as well as a few recommendations from the menu. I opted for a reuben with fries. Their reuben comes with either traditional thousand island dressing or their house dressing. I went with the house dressing for a change of pace, and I'm glad I did. It kinda resembled preserves, and had a sweet, fruity flavor, but when added to the reuben, it turned it into the absolute BEST reuben I've had in a LONG time. The sweetness of the dressing combined with the savoriness of the cheese, the saltiness of the corned beef, and helped contrast the brininess of the sauerkraut. Just perfect! Everything about Main Street Cafe makes it a place I'll certainly visit again. I'm thinking lunch with my lady next time or even dinner. read more

Charming place. Table for 3 for lunch on Saturday. Good crowd of very nice people. Food was very good. Reuben, Blue cheese burger, fries, chili and salad. Coppola wine is way too nice for a basic house wine at $8.75/glass. House wines should be around $6.50 and be anything but Barefoot wine. Also, server was very slow in delivering our 2nd glass of wine. Surprised to hear from our server that this place does not offer an N/A Beer option as one in our party does not drink and would have liked a beer. This place smells good. When I walk in the door, I am suddenly hungry! We sat out in the outer room in a corner so we had a private space. Our waitress Grace was attentive without hovering. THEIR SOUPS! I've yet to have a soup here that I didn't fall in love with. I believe they only serve one soup a day, but always have their chili, which is so delicious. Make sure to try their chili as well. You will find something on here. I always get the 1/2 club sandwich and whatever soup they have that day. They make the sandwich to your liking, it's a generous portion and it's delicious. They also have delicious burgers and I LOVE their fries. I'm a booth girl, but Main Street only has tables. But get a table in the back room so you have a view. I'm also a Diet Mountain Dew girl and Main Street serves Coke. But they do have Mello Yello. Yay!! read more

Obviously there has been a change in Management since I no longer see Karen the old manager working there. I believe Karen was responsible for the wide variety of homemade desserts made from scratch that were irresistible after my meal.
