I know I'm in Maine and I'm supposed to just eat seafood, but I had a hankering for bbq and this is the closest I saw to bar harbor. It was moderately busy on this Wednesday evening and we were seated pretty quickly. We ate inside. The servers were all friendly and helpful. The parking outside looks like a lot, but it fills in quickly. We ordered the Max Plate for $75 and it more than fed four of us. It would probably feed 5-6 people amply. Great value and all of the food was top notch. Except the Mac-n-cheese. That needs some work. If you want a break for one meal from lobster, check this place out.

This is a place that knows BBQ -- and their staff has a great sense of humor! We each had a different meat and side. I will say that though the pulled pork and ribs were very good, the pulled turkey was something to write home about. The baked beans were also incredible! We compared this place to a BBQ joint back home and we all agreed that we'd be happy to swap to have this one!

Friendly service, we chose to eat inside. No skeeters :) hubs had the pulled pork platter- looked great! I had the Dino salad and saved the steak. Kinda needed a break from protein. It was very fresh. Had a cup of chowda which was good! No complaints, good eats, great vibe. Have the blueberry lemonade!!

We keep coming back to this place! The staff is incredibly kind and attentive, the portions are huge, and the bbq is out of this world. The outdoor seating is a great option, too. Put this on your list!

Super laid back place on the outskirts of Bar Harbor that honestly makes you feel like you're in a cookout out in Texas or some other place south/southwest. Staff is lovely and even they embody some of that southern charm. We got the full rack of ribs and the Mixed Platter to really sample everything they have. All delicious - wonderfully seasoned, perfectly grilled, my ribs literally fell off the bone, sides are all 100%, what more can I say? Having never been to Bar Harbor before this was a really pleasant surprise from the general seafood / American-cuisine vibe from the rest of the area.

Mainely meats is a must stop every time we come to Mount Desert Island. We've come here numerous times with little wait or parking problems. It's a rustic setting with a cool outside seating space. Next door is an ice cream shop and across the road is mini golf. We make an evening of it! The restaurants sits on the north side of the island about 15 minutes from Bar Harbor. If you like BBQ this is your place on the island. We love it and the fact that you can try a sampling of most of their offerings. Each table usually has a variety of sauces. I really enjoy their mac n cheese and baked bean sides . I love their ribs and enjoy most other offerings. Best of all the price is fairly reasonable, a phrase seldom said on MDI, at around $20-$25 per person. While I love seafood sometimes you need to take a break from the lobstah and add some beef/pork/chicken to your diet. Enjoy!

This was a weird experience. We were one of the last seated and served, since they ran out of some foods and closed an hour early. It didn't affect us, but we were sitting near the door and heard them turning away folks. The food was excellent. Ribs fell off the bone. Chicken was excellent. Spicy sausage was just that: spicy. Pulled pork was delicious. (I got the sampler platter). Potato salad is a bit on the yellow, mustardy side (which I prefer), but it disappointed my wife. Just be aware. The only thing mediocre was the baked beans. They were "meh", but they were also just a small part of an otherwise very fine meal. Prices were fine. Service was as expected: not spectacular, but not bad, either.

What a surprisingly great treat. Next to the amazing ice cream shop, you have amazing BBQ! I can't speak details for what our large party had, but I shared the sampler (pictured) with my wife and we started with guac. I'll say that I wasn't crazy about the sausage, but my son liked it. (I don't think I love BBQ sausage). Everything else in the sampler was *chef's kiss! The guac I would pass on. Maybe too smoky? Just didn't do it for me. Chips were good! Beer selection is good, great atmosphere, and friendly service.

OMG! Arrraaaaaaahhh. Drool. Burp. So good. So full. Must. Take. Nap. Excellent service. We passed by on the way in to Bar Harbor and knew we wanted to come back one of our days. Only 10 minutes away.

When thinking of BBQ, this place has the best ambiance I've seen in Maine yet. The decor matched the same vibe I would expect from getting BBQ and the wait staff were kind, attentive, and overall were the stars in this establishment. The food was good and overall could see myself coming back.

We showed up on a Saturday at 5 o'clock end of August and got right in at Annex which is the same menu and attached. Waiters were helpful and kind, amazing people! Live music was going on at 7 but we left right before, awesome vibes doors to the outside open so it was basically an open air concept since it was a beautiful day. Clam chowder: super delicious and passed the spoon test! (I like my chowders thick so a spoon should float on top) Bangin Shrimp: seasoning and sauce were bangin! Great stuff and the buttery grilled flamed pita added a beautiful touch Cadillac fries: crispy fries with melty cheese, hot sauce, bbq sauce, chipotle mayo and toooed with bacon. We inhaled these. Mac + rac: fall off the bone rips and the Mac was killer. Mixed in with street corn added a great change up and all went so well together. Larger shells cooked perfectly and super cheesy, this was a great dish. Highly recommend, wish I could have tried the Blueberry Pie because that looks insane, was way too full after crushing the other dishes and washed down with a blueberry beer and an extra dirty martini!

However, we weren't too tired to eat it, so we had the food delivered from Side Street Cafe. So glad we did it that way cuz it was terrific... and easy to arrange ! My hubby ordered their Cubano sandwich while I ordered a cheeseburger. He loved his Cubano, which came with a side of mac 'n cheese. The mac 'n cheese was light in flavor, I think because of the kind of cheese used. I prefer more flavor, but it wasn't bad either. My( burger was quite large, and it was really tasty... very nicely seasoned beef patty, and it had all the things I like... cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle.... and catsup. I was very happy. It came with fries, but I had my fill of fries with all the lobster rolls I had ordered along the way, so I didn't eat them. Plus, there was a slice of blueberry pie calling out to me, so I wanted to blow my calories with the pie... and so glad I did cuz it was another spectacular piece of blueberry pie. Against my will, I split it with my hubby. Lol. It was a great way to end our meal. (Turns out we never got dinner that night cuz we were so full from such a nice lunch.) Side Street Cafe is definitely going on my radar if we're ever fortunate enough to return to Bar Harbor.

We had been on our Maine trip for almost a week and had been waiting for a while lobster. We both ordered the 1.5-2 lb lobsters. You can pick the out of the tank if you would like. As always not enough meat if you're only eating lobster. Corn was tasty. I have mine to my husband, he was still hungry. The clam chowder was ok. I feel like it had been sitting in the pot for a day or so. Really thick and kind of concealed. Not the rich-creamy flavor I was hoping for. Kind of bland. Needed to add hot sauce. I tried a couple bites of the Blueberry pie. Very thick pie filling. Sweet and tasty. Felt like the crust was store bought. Not really flaky or buttery. Overall, good lobster. Touristy. We waited over an hour for a large half-pepperoni, half-cheese pizza. The burger and fries we ordered came out in about 30 minutes, but the waitress bringing out the burger said the pizza was coming. Twenty minutes later we inquired again, only to be told they were backed up. We got that message from the 50-minute wait, but when people who ordered pizza after us, received their pizza before we did, we knew this place had issues. When the lady finally brought out the pizza, she was like, "sorry," but big deal, by then the damage was already done. They made no efforts to make it up to us, especially considering we had waited so long. Very disappointing. They really didn't care about our two han-gry (hungry and angry) kids who really wanted to eat that pizza. The restaurant had a fairly steady flow of customers ordering, but it was not crowded or overwhelming. People enjoyed food and drinks around their tables and watching the big screen televisions with trivia and sports updates. Nobody was at the pool table. After waiting so long, my son was trying to be optimistic and said we should play some pool, since no one was playing. Then he saw the big sign that said only 18-year-olds and older, no exceptions! Needless to say, we were sorely disappointed with this experience. For a Monday night, where the pace was not very busy or unmanageable, this should not have been that hard to make a pizza in less than an hour. This was ridiculous. As a result, I do not recommend this place, especially if you have kids.
