Mainely meats is a must stop every time we come to Mount Desert Island. We've come here numerous times with little wait or parking problems. It's a rustic setting with a cool outside seating space. Next door is an ice cream shop and across the road is mini golf. We make an evening of it! The restaurants sits on the north side of the island about 15 minutes from Bar Harbor. If you like BBQ this is your place on the island. We love it and the fact that you can try a sampling of most of their offerings. Each table usually has a variety of sauces. I really enjoy their mac n cheese and baked bean sides . I love their ribs and enjoy most other offerings. Best of all the price is fairly reasonable, a phrase seldom said on MDI, at around $20-$25 per person. While I love seafood sometimes you need to take a break from the lobstah and add some beef/pork/chicken to your diet. Enjoy!

This was a weird experience. We were one of the last seated and served, since they ran out of some foods and closed an hour early. It didn't affect us, but we were sitting near the door and heard them turning away folks. The food was excellent. Ribs fell off the bone. Chicken was excellent. Spicy sausage was just that: spicy. Pulled pork was delicious. (I got the sampler platter). Potato salad is a bit on the yellow, mustardy side (which I prefer), but it disappointed my wife. Just be aware. The only thing mediocre was the baked beans. They were "meh", but they were also just a small part of an otherwise very fine meal. Prices were fine. Service was as expected: not spectacular, but not bad, either.

What a surprisingly great treat. Next to the amazing ice cream shop, you have amazing BBQ! I can't speak details for what our large party had, but I shared the sampler (pictured) with my wife and we started with guac. I'll say that I wasn't crazy about the sausage, but my son liked it. (I don't think I love BBQ sausage). Everything else in the sampler was *chef's kiss! The guac I would pass on. Maybe too smoky? Just didn't do it for me. Chips were good! Beer selection is good, great atmosphere, and friendly service.

OMG! Arrraaaaaaahhh. Drool. Burp. So good. So full. Must. Take. Nap. Excellent service. We passed by on the way in to Bar Harbor and knew we wanted to come back one of our days. Only 10 minutes away.

When thinking of BBQ, this place has the best ambiance I've seen in Maine yet. The decor matched the same vibe I would expect from getting BBQ and the wait staff were kind, attentive, and overall were the stars in this establishment. The food was good and overall could see myself coming back.

I was "Lobstered Out"! After indulging in lobsters (only 97 calories), for several days, I was craving MEAT! Mainly Meat in mostly BBQ ribs, pork, chicken etc. and I was good with that. I ordered the Pulled pork dinner, it was huggge. A generous helping of shredded pork, beans, Cole slaw, potato salad and a slice of cornbread. My wife opted for the crabcake sandwich. Good friendly service, good drinks and fair prices. All good!

My boyfriend and I went to Maine for Fourth of July weekend, arriving on the holiday itself. I didn't want to go to downtown Bar Harbor because of the fireworks show, so I mentioned trying out Mainely Meat BBQ! What better way to celebrate Independence Day! I ordered the pulled pork plate which came with a huge portion of pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, and cornbread. I thought the amount of food was great for the price! My boyfriend had a pulled pork sandwich with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and onions. His sandwich came with a side of potato salad. They have a spicy BBQ sauce and their house BBQ sauce that they keep on the table. He also ordered a beer from their great beer selection! The service was quick and the staff was friendly! We were able to eat outside because the weather was beautiful. I would definitely recommend Mainely Meat BBQ to anyone visiting. Definitely worth a stop! Also, the Atlantic Brewing Company located on Knox Road has a Mainely Meat BBQ location as well! You can check out two local businesses at once!

After eating lobster for almost every meal in Maine, we decided to take a little break and go to Mainely Meat BBQ. We ordered the Real Wings, The Sampler (with potato salad, coleslaw, and baked beans), and a side of Mac and Cheese. Real Wings ($14.99) are smoked with dry rub and then grilled, serve with ranch or bleu cheese. I found the dry rub to be bland, so the sauce on the side was needed. The Sampler ($20.59) comes with 4oz of pulled pork, 2-3 bones of ribs, 1 hot Italian sausage link, 1 chicken thigh). Pulled pork was flavorful and tender. Ribs and chicken just tasted char. The dry rub was bland. Sausage had an interesting taste that not used to. I enjoyed the sides. Cornbread was good and moist. Beans were from the can with one small slice of ham, but who doesn't like canned beans. Potato salad and cole slaw were good too. Mac and Cheese ($3.99) was just okay. It was not very cheesy and a little dry.

We were really excited to try this highly rated BBQ outside of Bar Harbor but we're incredibly disappointed. Service and wait time was great but the food was left to be desired. Meat was only good smothered in BBQ sauce, I found my chicken skin very tough. The coleslaw and potato salad were unseasoned. Mac n cheese was barely warm and just horrible. Cornbread, fries, and beans were fine but nothing special. Hopefully they were just having an off day because we do not agree with the other reviews

Bottom Line: Friendly service and tasty barbecue and sides. My husband and I were ready for a break from lobster (gasp!) so we decided to check out Mainely Meat BBQ on a cold, rainy June day. We shared 1/2 rack of dry rubbed ribs, 1/2 whole chicken (yeah, I know that's a little confusing), fries and macaroni and cheese. We enjoyed the tender ribs and found that they were better with sauce. As for the chicken, it was super moist and didn't really need any sauce. Mainely Meat describes their two barbecue sauce as sweet or spicy. We only used the sweet sauce which was like a typical, reliable barbecue sauce that will satisfy many different pallets. The French fries were rather thick compared to most french fries but they were cooked properly and were tasty. The mac and cheese was average. We could not have asked for friendlier service! We enjoyed being cozy inside on such a cold, wet day. If the weather had been cooperating it looks like Mainely Meat has lots of outdoor seating as well. Overall, this was a great experience and we enjoyed having a hearty Sunday lunch here.

Decent BBQ at fair prices. The BBQ could be better with a few tweaks. The ribs are dry rubbed, which is fine but tend to dry out by the end of service. Pulled pork could use some seasoning and definitely needed sauce. My chicken was plump but rubbery. Not exactly what I was looking for. The sides are interesting and a bit off the run. The potato salad has pickles in it. The beans are a little spicy and have some Italian sausage bits. The coleslaw tends toward vinegary. There's definitely value in the BBQ sampler which has everything for only $19. Overall, not bad, but could be very good with a few improvements.

Who knew Maine would have delicious barbecue??? After our meal, we were talking about how this restaurant beat out the bbq we had in Tennessee last year. I appreciate that it's a family owned business too. Please note that this place gets busy fast (there's a lot of indoor and outdoor dining available though), and the parking lot also gets full easily since the restaurant is in the same plaza as a bomb ice cream shop. We didn't make reservations; we came around 5:55pm on a Monday night and were seated right away. Our server was very nice, and she took meticulous drink orders (some people wanted water with no ice and lemon). I ordered the Turkey Melt Sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onion, and a side of baked beans. I also ordered an extra side of macaroni and cheese. Let me tell you--all the sides were delicious. From the cornbread to the potato salad (which I stole from someone else). We also ordered a shrimp appetizer with cocktail sauce and wings, and both of those were so yummy. To be honest, I didn't love my sandwich. I thought the turkey was on the dry side, but it did taste better once I added in the barbecue sauce (I couldn't taste the white barbecue sauce the sandwich came with). And again, I loved allllll the sides. Would recommend!

Pulled pork plate with corn bread, beans, potato salad and coleslaw. A side Caesar and a local IPA. Get the hot bbq sauce!

I would have liked to sit outside on their cute patio, but it was full and the hostess said it would be a long wait, so we decided to eat inside. At first she directed us to a table in the bar but realized it was very loud (music and patrons) so offered to seat us in the other inside section. We had a view of a bocce match and the patio--definitely better than the bar, but not as nice as the patio. They were playing classic rock and the people at the table next to us asked to turn it down, and they were accommodated, which made for a nicer experience for us as well. The falafel wrap and Banh Mi (v) were very good and the chips can be substituted for a house salad or fries, which we did. The dressing was light and I enjoyed it. The highlight of the experience at Lompoc was dessert. Although there was nothing vegan on the dessert menu, our server suggested an "off the menu" rhubarb raspberry sorbet, which was excellent! And doesn't it enhance the experience when you feel like they're letting you in on something special?! I'd definitely return and try to get there early (4:30) to be able to sit outside.

The staff is always exceptionally kind and forthcoming with their opinions on the food which makes it known they genuinely enjoy it too. The last time I was here I got the bang bang chicken and was able to even get the spicy sauce in the side so I could control my spice level. The true winner for the night was a chocolate carrot cake from a local bakery in town. It was decadent yet well balanced and a hefty portion that I would have regretted if I finished entirely. This place has a unique vibe compared to all the other spots in Bar Harbor and has something for everyone. Do not miss this place when in town.
