My husband and I stopped here for lunch on the way out of Bar Harbor. We have eaten here before and liked it. I was looking forward to the pulled pork on Texas Toast sandwich. Unfortunately, the bread was barely toasted and soggy. There was little flavor to the pork; it was just greasy. The bbq sauce was tasty but did not help the sandwich much. Super laid back place on the outskirts of Bar Harbor that honestly makes you feel like you're in a cookout out in Texas or some other place south/southwest. Staff is lovely and even they embody some of that southern charm. We got the full rack of ribs and the Mixed Platter to really sample everything they have. Mainely meats is a must stop every time we come to Mount Desert Island. We've come here numerous times with little wait or parking problems. It's a rustic setting with a cool outside seating space. Next door is an ice cream shop and across the road is mini golf. We make an evening of it! The restaurants sits on the north side of the island about 15 minutes from Bar Harbor. If you like BBQ this is your place on the island. We love it and the fact that you can try a sampling of most of their offerings. Each table usually has a variety of sauces. I really enjoy their mac n cheese and baked bean sides . I love their ribs and enjoy most other offerings. Best of all the price is fairly reasonable, a phrase seldom said on MDI, at around $20-$25 per person. It didn't affect us, but we were sitting near the door and heard them turning away folks. The food was excellent. Ribs fell off the bone. Chicken was excellent. Spicy sausage was just that: spicy. Pulled pork was delicious. (I got the sampler platter). Potato salad is a bit on the yellow, mustardy side (which I prefer), but it disappointed my wife. Just be aware. What a surprisingly great treat. Next to the amazing ice cream shop, you have amazing BBQ! I can't speak details for what our large party had, but I shared the sampler (pictured) with my wife and we started with guac. I'll say that I wasn't crazy about the sausage, but my son liked it. Mainely Meat describes their two barbecue sauce as sweet or spicy. We only used the sweet sauce which was like a typical, reliable barbecue sauce that will satisfy many different pallets. The French fries were rather thick compared to most french fries but they were cooked properly and were tasty. The mac and cheese was average. We could not have asked for friendlier service! Who knew Maine would have delicious barbecue??? After our meal, we were talking about how this restaurant beat out the bbq we had in Tennessee last year. I appreciate that it's a family owned business too. Please note that this place gets busy fast (there's a lot of indoor and outdoor dining available though), and the parking lot also gets full easily since the restaurant is in the same plaza as a bomb ice cream shop. We didn't make reservations; we came around 5:55pm on a Monday night and were seated right away. Our server was very nice, and she took meticulous drink orders (some people wanted water with no ice and lemon). I ordered the Turkey Melt Sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onion, and a side of baked beans. I also ordered an extra side of macaroni and cheese. Let me tell you--all the sides were delicious. From the cornbread to the potato salad (which I stole from someone else). We also ordered a shrimp appetizer with cocktail sauce and wings, and both of those were so yummy. To be honest, I didn't love my sandwich. I thought the turkey was on the dry side, but it did taste better once I added in the barbecue sauce (I couldn't taste the white barbecue sauce the sandwich came with). I ordered a couple of local craft beers with my meal and got the pulled pork plate with some coleslaw, beans and potato salad with a side Caesar salad. The lady behind the counter was super nice and the pork and sides were just perfect with every bite. I would recommend getting the hot BBQ sauce, which I think was Frank's Red Hot with added butter, but their house sauce was too sweet in my opinion, which I ran into more than once in Maine. Nice tables inside and they had lobster if you wanted it as well. This place is a must visit if you want some good Maine BBQ. It is only about a 10 minute ride out of main Bar Harbor. When you go to Bar Harbor you think of seafood, lobstah and such. Don't drive by this place and think it is a tourist trap due to the mini golf across the street. Happily sat our party of 11 and food came faster than expected. The kids portions were very nice. My nephew got the sampler and was super happy, but watch out as the sausage is spicy (knew it was spicy ahead of time). I had the 1/2 rack with box 1 (slaw, potato salad,cornbread and beans). The bones fell out and the flavor was great. No need for any sauce but tried it and was very good as well. Had a very filling, very satisfying breakfast here the other day. We wanted something to fill us up for a day of hiking in Acadia, and this place seemed popular. And it was very close to where we were staying. Mainely Meat serves breakfast til 11 am, then serves lunch which includes lobster and all their BBQ options, then they also have an ice cream business attached (Udder Heaven), though it never seemed open the whole week we were in the area. We got in just under the 11 am cut off and witnessed other diners be disappointed they could not get breakfast items after 11. Their breakfast menu has all the standards - pancakes (their blueberry pancakes with real maple - OMG), french toast, omelettes, eggs, sides like grits, bacon, hash browns, etc. We ordered a 3-egg lobster omelette with cheddar cheese and a side of hash browns and 2 blueberry pancakes (you can order a single, stack of 2 or stack of 3) with a side of a blueberry muffin. Maine blueberries feature heavily in all the local breakfast places, so we had to get both pancakes and muffin! Everything was really delicious. The place has a large interior dining space plus large outdoor dining space, and on the day we visited there was a 10-15 min wait for socially distanced table. All staff were wearing masks and all patrons were asked to also wear masks while navigating the dining areas or to use the restrooms, but when seated could have masks off. Service was good though the restaurant was very busy and after we ordered we waited a solid 30 min for our food.
