I wanted the Strawberry Fields cocktail, but they didn't have so I settled on The Fuzzy. It is very alcohol forward, which most people will enjoy. Not for me personally, as I would have liked more flavor from the infusions, but that's definitely a personal preference. The Blackened Fish Sandwich with a Small Caesar Salad had very flakey fish. I loved the meld of flavors, and ended up devouring my sandwich! The bun held together well. The caesar salad was a decent size and well dressed. I was also expecting more Irish plate options in the menu but anything that was not a burger was much pricier than usual and thus unappealing. Reviewed the menu and decided this is where I wanted to come after a long day hiking in the park and starving after skipping lunch. This spot is cozy and quaint and full of friendly local staff members. It was Kentucky Derby day and a lot of folks we were watching it as we walked in, ambiance was jovial and loud. Greeted immediately by the hostess and bartender and waited a short while for a table to open up. I ordered the chicken sandwich and my husband ordered the Reuben. He is Jewish and loves Reubens, gets them all the time. He said this one was really, really good. Great texture to the meat. Now, my Chicken Sandwich - was the best I've ever had in my life. I told my husband, I will be holding any and all future chicken sandwiches up to this one as the benchmark. The breaded chicken breast was huge and delicious quality white meat. It was dipped in buffalo sauce, and had fresh slaw, pickles, tomato and blue cheese sauce. It was DECADENT and it really hit the spot for me after a long day. I could not stop eating it. YUMMMM. Oh, we also ordered the pub fries - loaded with aioli and cheese and greens. Fries were delish but a bit too much aioli for our taste. Still, wonderful! Huge portion. I ordered an Old Fashioned with chocolate bitters -- an unexpectedly delicious twist on the classic. My Shepherd's Pie was hearty and flavorful, especially paired with Leary's salad for a lighter balance. After a day spent road tripping from Portland to Bar Harbor to see Acadia National Park, we ended up in downtown BH and were pretty hungry after a day of adventuring, We fell for the vibe of this cool pub when we looked through the door and down the staircase into cool people territory. The menu had lots of hearty options as well as salad selections and craft cocktails. We put our names on the waiting list and found it very pleasant to peruse the nearby shops while we waited. Our server was great and we each enjoyed a couple of funky cocktails. Having not had lobster yet on our trip (we would have been absolutely roasted back home for NOT getting lobster at least once on our girl weekend), we learned that lobster is an add-on protein option. My friend with celiac was accommodated and we all had a smashing meal. The buzz of the pub crowd and the autumn tizzy of wearing jackets in September and being in such a beautiful state really just ended our day perfectly. The 3+ hour drive back to Portland was killer though, so I will be staying IN Bar Harbor when I take my kids back to complete our continental US road trip tour. As we finished our day of Acadia National Park touring, we headed back into crowded and touristy downtown Bar Harbor to find a place for a simple dinner. We settled on Leary's Landing, based on Yelp reviews. As we entered the restaurant we were greeted by a host who was unfortunately lacking in the key skills of a host - to greet, welcome, and serve the customer. This guy was all about getting you out of the way and into a table as quickly as possible. He pointed us to a table right by the host stand and said "I can seat you here." I asked if they had anything not so close to the busy and crowded entrance. He said it would be 15 minutes at best before anything opened up. We decided to accept the table and within two minutes two tables further interior opened up. We asked him to seat us at one of those and he did politely agree. We ordered a local IPA draft and another ale and our server was quick to attend to us. We both ordered the Fish & Chips and I added a Seafood Chowder. The chowder was excellent. Creamy, seasoned well, and beautifully presented in a wide, low soup bowl, topped with bacon bits and chopped scallions. The fish was beer battered in a Smithwicks Ale and too heavy on the batter for my liking. I prefer a more tempura type of batter on fish and chips. So I'd rate these as a three-star. However, the hand-cut fries were five-star! Expertly done, which is saying something as so many places can't get hand-cut fries correct. Leary's fries are worth a trip. Overall, it's a three-star rating. I'd call Leary's average for tourist fare in a crowded tourist town. If they upped their game on service, customer care, and simple Maine friendly, they'd score a four-star in my book. read more

He said the fish was good but the fries were soggy, barely warm, and didn't taste fresh. I had the chicken sandwich with fries ($17) and my fries were the same, lukewarm and fairly soggy. I wish they tasted as good as they looked! The chicken sandwich was good. A nice, meaty piece of chicken with a crispy breading, covered in buffalo sauce, blue cheese and cabbage. The beer selection was good, though there were a ton of IPA options (which neither of us like). I ended up with a cider ($7) and my partner a Guinness ($8). This place had great potential but we left somewhat disappointed. We walked in and were warmly welcomed. The hostess told us there was an hour wait, unless we sat at the small bar-like seating at the front window. This wasn't a huge deal, however the window up top was open when it was 45° and they said they couldn't close it due to the kitchen in the back of the restaurant. We also had to get up multiple times throughout our dinner to close the door as we were right next to it and it didn't close on its own. Almost as soon as we had sat down, another group of 2 sat down at a table with no reservation. I got the blueberry mojito which was good, but nothing extraordinary. We got two burgers, which were pretty good, but mine came with the blueberry BBQ sauce and the blueberry wasn't supper noticeable, but still good. I upgraded my meal +$4 for fries instead of chips and the fries tasted stale. This was disappointing considering they were an up charge for $4.
