The food was amazing. The food was absolutely amazing and easily the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. When I requested my check, the waitress came over with the handheld payment device without ever giving me an opportunity to actually see or review the bill. She quickly scrolled through the charges herself, which made it nearly impossible for me to verify what I was being charged. What bothered me most was the tipping screen. The suggested tip started at 50%, and I actually had to scroll through the options just to get down to 20%. Considering the level of service we received--and the fact that the restaurant wasn't even busy--that felt incredibly presumptuous and uncomfortable. The food truly was excellent, and I would have loved to leave a glowing review based on that alone. Unfortunately, the checkout experience really took away from an otherwise great meal. Guests should always be given the opportunity to review their bill before being asked to pay, and a 50% starting tip suggestion is excessive. read more

What a great spot! We went for the chicken wings and took advantage of the bone marrow special. Both were so good! And the bartender, Marina, was so nice and helpful! If you're looking for bourbon, this is also the place with over 180 different selections. We stopped here for lunch. The food was great, service was good and the craft beers in tap were excellent. I had the scallop street corn dish with seared scallops in a dish of homemade creamed corn which I recommend. I came here with a group of 5 adults and 2 dogs. We were happy to find a spot that was dog friendly! We picked a spot on the patio that was under a tree to keep out of the sun. The waiter was very friendly and answered all of the questions that we had about the menu. He even put up with my dad's very bad "dad jokes" the entire time. The beer menu was overwhelmingly large. Came here for dinner on a Saturday in November. We were able to be seated at the bar when we came in. Inside has good seating and outside is covered and had heating which was nice. Go for the birria duck tacos alone. They were in the top five of our favorite food items on this trip. Drinks were okay. I got the local whisky flight that I really enjoyed, but the wife got a sour drink with a wine float. The egg white foam needed drops of Angostura because it smelled like wet dog. read more

Four stars only because the service was not super friendly. 2/3 of the waitresses we saw seemed like they were having a bad day. Our waitress was nice enough, thankfully. Oysters - phenomenal. Kinda pricy at 22/half dozen, but they were local and really good. Mussels - if you like spicy Thai food (I do!!!) then this is a fantastic dish. I only wish it came with more than 2 paper thin slices of bread, because the broth was really amazing. Kids menu - some standard fare, grilled cheese, burgers, but definitely done right. My oldest ordered the Amber grilled cheese with caramelized onions and blackberries - not something you normally find on the kids menu. We asked to sub fries on one of the orders and she charged us for a full order of fries. I would've liked to have known that in advance. I knew there would be an upcharge, but I didn't anticipate it being $5. Duck birria tacos - two in an order, no sides. Overall, the atmosphere was so cute and inviting on the patio. My friend was salivating over the thought of Tap and Barrell the whole time we were planning our trip, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in, Joshua was on point! There is a good selection of draft beers, and each one we ordered his the spot. Joshua made sure we knew there was limited soup available, so I snagged one of the last bowls of the deliciously amazing soup of the day - tomato basil - and that hit the spot on a cool afternoon. I also ordered the crabcakes, to which all the employees said "Yaaaassss" so I knew it was the right choice! They were very flavorful. As our group grew, we moved from the bar to a table with no problem. The space was super cute, and while I do wish we could have sat outside (we were a tad chilly after our morning ride), the inside was great. They do slow down and it sounds like they close for part of the season, so we were happy to hit it before this happened. On our last night in Bar Harbor we decided to stop here for dinner because it got such great reviews. We were not disappointed. It was a beautiful fall night and we sat on the patio near a cozy heater. Service was excellent with suggestions from the menu, checking in often l, but never rushing us. We started with the chicken wings which were delicious. Nice spice to them and they were nice and hot. Great start. I wanted something lighter and chose the peach panzenella salad. It was so good. This place is a solid 4 stars on food quality. However service is beyond any expectation. This is what you'd get when visiting your grandma and her sister: they just jump on you and won't let go until you finish everything on your plate. Restaurant allows bringing dogs in, but does not allows them on those small couches. We did managed to get few weird looks when coming in with 2 large huskies, but virtually everyone wanted to pet them and figure why they behave so good. Big selection of tap beer, and even bigger selection of cans and bottles. One of those serving grandmas does not drinks, so you have to give detailed explanation why you need to order, but this is even more fun. Huge selection of bourbon and scotch. I loved 4oz of local whiskey flight. Maybe pricey but 2 good and 2 oks - I don't mind. For the food, you really have to think of this as a small plate place rather than a bar with food. Everything should be looked at as drink supplement than food by itself. I especially loved amber grilled cheese. Perhaps the best one outside of NJ. On the other hand duck tacos came so spicy that I would not recommend unless you know about this. My girl had scallops and insists that I recommend them to anyone. Finally I loved humus plate, don't be shy asking for extra pita. On a final thought price is very competitive for the area. Not sure when I'll get another chance, but I sure will come back for few beers or another amber cheese. read more
