Love Blaze! We make our way here every Bar Harbor visit and recommend it to others nearby. When it gets cold and rainy, they do shield the restaurant. It's nice but smaller, so you may encounter a wait but they clear tables quickly to get folks in and out. They also have 2 large bars available, and we've found it easier to find open seats there. The servers are always friendly with good recommendations. Large selection of beer available on tap with a full bar selection; you will find something you like here! The food? It is terrific and everything comes out with that smoky, wood fired flavor. Yum! Yesterday, we started with the bacon wrapped scallops (with blueberry sauce). OMG so good! I got the wood grilled lobster, which was so delightful and somehow manages to be completely different from all the other lobster options around town due to the grilling. Terrifically delicious! I came here really quickly while driving through Bar Harbor to get some 4-packs of beer to drink during my wife's an my 15th-wedding-anniversary trip to Acadia. The beer was great, the parking situation was a disaster. We tried to park nearby and pretty much failed, but found a 15-minute loading zone in front of the police station where we were able to dash over here and buy some four-packs before dashing back to the car. The server could have been a bit more attentive given he knew were racing in and out, but it also all worked out. Atmosphere - Just OK. To be honest, I would ding the restaurant for this category if the food and service was not so great. We sat outside on a very narrow patio that runs along side of the building. The tables were crammed in so much that it made the dining experience less than enjoyable. Service - Excellent. I can't say enough good things about him. He was friendly and very attentive. Food - Excellent. I ordered a cup of the lobster bisque and the fish n chips. The soup was absolutely delicious. The broth tasted amazing and there was so many pieces of lobster that if there were any more it would have been considered stew. The fish was a lightly breaded haddock that was deep fried but not greasy. The piece was huge. I had told myself that I was not going to be able to eat the entire piece, but it was so delicious I nearly finished it off. The beer selection is huge. I had a hazy IPA that was very good. We were lucky to get a nice seat outside and enjoyed looking through the beer menu. There are so many choices I had trouble deciding. In the end, I chose an amber ale and it was very good. Our server was great and provided input and suggestions. The menu has a variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees. I settled on the 1.5 lb. grilled lobster, which came with fingerling potatoes and broccoli. The food came timely and was nice and hot. Blaze is one of I think two restaurants open during off season. We had pretty high hopes for this place. I ordered the wagyu burger with a house salad. The burger was great, a little too thick for me but it was a 1/4 lb of meat. The salad had some type of home made dressing but I wasn't a fan. My boyfriend ordered the duck fat fried haddock. He ended up getting really sick, but I think it was a combination of things. The fish was cooked prefect, however I think having duck fat fries, duck fat fish, and a local beer he wasn't used to resulted in an unhappy ending lol. Back home, we don't use duck fat at all so it was definitely an acquired taste type of thing. All in all, the bar tenders were nice, the service was quick and the food for the most part was good. read more

The pizza $25 was the best, very good. Bar Harbor Blaze Burger $22 fell apart it had too much stuff on it, I could not taste the meat. I do not recommend the burgers. Lobster bisque was too sweet so you do not taste the lobster bits. Less sweet would be good soup. Blaze bay view IPA did not taste fresh, no foam. Not good. Pilsner was okay. We are really glad we came here, despite mixed reviews. Staff were friendly and although it was off season the restaurant quickly filled up. We ordered the pork chops, fish tacos, and a side of Brussel sprouts. The portions were generous, both meals tasted great, and the prices were reasonable--a great combo after a long day of hiking and exploring Acadia! Other spots we tried earlier in the trip served much smaller portions that left us still hungry, so this place was a refreshing change. The pizza came packed with toppings (chunks of ham, pineapple, red onion slices, and pickled jalapeños), which I thought made the pizza a little more wet on the bottom than I would have liked. However, the kids pepperoni was the same. Nonetheless, the pizza was still good and came slightly charred. The wood-grilled wings were also quite good, but I couldn't tell it had brown butter in it. Tasted like straight Buffalo. The wings were pretty meaty and had decent heat to them. Service was a little on the slow side. I also noticed that the workers here don't like to smile. I had the veggie skillet and there was a lot of the eggs weren't cooked through and there wasn't very much cheese on it. My husband had the biscuits and gravy. Pizza was just ok (we didn't feel the quality of the cheese was good and the pizza was very salty). Price they charged was way over. We only ordered a soda, an appetizer and one pizza and it cost us $60. The waiter was very bad. He ignored us for the most of the night. We had to ask for another waitress for a refill on the soda and only got one refill on a $6 soda. We also waited 30min for the waiter to just come for the bill even after another waitress noticed and said something to him. A lady next to our table asked for a taste of a beer and they charged 75 cents. We visited other bars in Bar Harbor and they all offered a taste for free. As a self-admitted NYC pizza snob, I was pleasantly surprised by Blaze's most popular offering, the pan pizzas. They have some cool combinations, including a local meats version that looked promising. We settled on the fig and ricotta. I loved the cornmeal crust and the flecks of seasoning and cornmeal studding the bottom. Hands down, the best thing we ordered. The deep fried Brussels sprouts, while tasty, were too salty and doused in some sort of soy sauce/teriyaki sauce that, for me, made more than a few bites impossible but my husband really liked them. The salads we ordered were meh, veggies a little on the wilted or mushy side (the roasted tomatoes just did not taste good), dressing also too salty or sour. The Maine lobster cake came as a fried, nuclear-orange puck. I think the pizza here is a pretty safe option and would come back to try the other combinations, and just skip the salads. read more
