Our friend Kay recommended the place so we tried it an loved it, we each had a pork egg roll with sauce an they were Amazing best l have ever had. then Mona had a soup with beef, shrimp, sausage, basil, Brussell sprouts an some other stuff an she said that was good as well, l had the shrimp fried rice and that again was some of the best l have ever had, the parking lot is very small but there is also parking in the business lot next door too as they got a big parking lot at hobby town. this place is worth the trip to eat there.. then they also have stuffed chicken wings l have heard many good things about them so will try them next time we are there... read more

I've been here numerous times. I'm surprised I have not posted a review of this unassuming establishment, that seems to be run by a tight knit family. I usually order the Combination platter which has the best fried rice and stuffed chicken wing in NE Wisconsin. For less than 10 dollars, it includes 2 egg rolls and a soda. If this is not what you crave for, I suggest the Pad Thai. When the temperature drops to below freezing, try the Pho combination or the yellow curry. Parking may be difficult at certain hours in this small building, but the food is well worth the inconvenience. read more

The outside of the building seemed renovated. Parking is very limited. You may have to park in the back alley. When you enter the restaurant, you're greeted by a menu wall with a person behind the cashier and a hot food display that's filled with egg rolls and stuffed chicken wings. Seating is also limited. I would say no more than 12 people at a time. My group was 6. The person behind the cashier told us to order and pay before we could sit. The menu ranges from egg rolls to crab Rangoon to start, pho, several other noodle dishes, with rice platters, and drinks. Quickly I ordered an egg roll (since people raved about it), spring rolls, and a Pho regular. My husband got the Pho Combo. I must say, all the food tasted homemade. Not in a good way. In a way that I could make better home cooked meals but I'm just too lazy to. The egg roll was crispy. The filling was full of bean thread glass noodles more than anything. Typical Hmong egg roll. I'm a Vietnamese egg roll fan which consists of more meat and flavor. My husband's Pho combo ($7.50) had 2-3 medium shrimps, nothing else. I don't understand why it's a combo. Note: Pho regular is $6.75, if you don't want to pay 75 cents for 2-3 shrimps, pass on the combo. Pho broth was oily and bland. Again, something I could of made at home. The spring rolls filling had vermicelli noodles, basil, cilantro, lettuce, shrimp, and what looked like carved meat. It wasn't bad. The dipping sauce was peanut-y hoison sauce. Overall, it was fresh and delicious. I gave it a star for the cleanliness, a star that they shifted their tables to accommodate 6 people on a busy Saturday afternoon, and a star for their prices. I was very pleased with Mai's. The parking is limited but the lot next door is available (though not theirs). It's a smaller set up with about 7-8 small tables. I was skeptical at first but hopeful. I ended up getting one of the currys that wasn't listed as hot. I also got a Pho dish and stuffed chicken wing. Everything I had was very good. The staff was very friendly and you could tell they have a solid clientele base from their familiarity with customers coming in. I really look forwards to going back! read more

Classic "hole in the wall" type place with $ on its expense! Just about every review mentioned the stuffed chicken wing. We went about 740 pm. The wing was not very hot when it was brought to my table. The chicken was extremely tender. Inside was sort of a spring roll. Wing was served with some spicy sauce that was about right for me. It was good and I would recommend. I also ordered the Pho Combo. It is what I would expect for about $8 bowl of pho. I suppose putting one shrimp in the bowl satisfies the combo status of including shrimp. I could have used a bit more tripe in it. Broth was good. It definitely wasn't my best bowl of Pho or the worst. It definitely left something to be desired. My daughters ordered the Beef Pad Thai. They loved it and devoured it. Back to the "hole in the wall" joint. It was hard to find on this corner. Parking was limited but I didn't have a problem. The staff was very attentive and refilled our waters. Tables were adequate. Overall, it was about what I would expect for spending $20 to feed three people. If the Pho was a bit better, the wing a little warmer then I am 5 staring it. Part I - I was with a friend who raves about Mai's Deli and she really talked up their stuffed chicken wings. She had the idea to call ahead to order those ahead of time as they take a while to cook. We ordered four of them (2 for each of us) and showed up 20 minutes later. Part II - We got to the restaurant and my friend said she called earlier about the wings and we're each paying for two and she wanted to order some more food. The kid at the register must have been in high school but he had a hard time understanding what we're asking. He must have been new, because he hard time figuring out how to ring up the order. We went in circles for a bit but got it figured out and eventually got our food to go. Part III - The food smelled so good that I ate my chicken wings in the car and they were the bomb! I absolutely love Mai's. It was my favorite place to grab food in Appleton. I moved away recently and still think about the stuffed chicken wings nearly every other day. I have tried just about everything on the menu and haven't been disappointed. The Pho is a little bland but with some sriracha and soy mixed in I can't stop eating it. I usually get the Pad See Ew (asking for medium spice mmmm) and multiple stuffed wings. Bottom line...get how ever many stuffed chicken wings you think your stomach can hold... and then get one more. I really don't know what is going on here lately...but our last 5 orders have been a mess and it has deterred us from visiting this establishment for a really long time. #1-About 3 months ago-Ordered chicken pad thai-received shrimp pad thai (NOTE: They did only charge for chicken pad thai price. Asked for medium spicy and it was blazing hot, all you could taste was sambal) #2-About 2.5 months ago-The sauce for the spring rolls has changed, looser, less peanuts, less flavor (has not changed back since this visit) and the spring rolls are much smaller than what they used to be #3-About 2 months ago-Ordered the curry noodle dish with no shrimp, received shrimp. The bell peppers were way undercooked and the noodles were overcooked. #4-3 weeks ago-Only 3 pieces of chicken in the chicken pad thai and 2 of the 3 crab rangoons had about a teaspoon of filling and were almost burnt on the edges, and they forgot the sauce. #5-1.5 weeks ago-Ordered the drunken noodles to try something different since our last few orders had been so messed up....the noodles were so overcooked they were in a congealed mess and could not break them apart and the sauce had no flavor. Threw the whole dish away. I'm honestly sad that I am having to write this, but the fact that both my fiance and I agreed not to visit here for awhile really says something....this used to be our favorite spot for to-go orders, but our business will be going elsewhere. I'm wondering if this has to do with the amount of orders/business they get so quality is slipping? With the amount of volume, I feel like the building is just too small to meet demand....hopefully this review helps address some of the problems. read more

I lived in the Appleton area for 5 years and had no idea this place existed... I'm so sad! On a return visit, I was yelping around for some Thai food and stumbled on this place. I decided to stop in and I'm very happy that I did! I had the spring rolls and drunken noodles and they were both very good. Would definitely order again. The peanut sauce for the spring rolls was perfect, and the smoky, basil-y flavor of the drunken noodles was exactly what I had a hankering for. I didn't expect much, coming from a city filled with lots of delicious Thai options, but this definitely competes with what I'm used to. Parking is a little odd, but we figured it out. I love coming here for quick bite on our visit to Appleton to visit my family in town. The food here is always tasty and fresh. One thing they offer here that I don't see anywhere else in the bigger city Vietnamese restaurants are the giant stuffed chicken wings. It's kinda like a dumpling/chicken wing hybrid which is just absolutely brilliant!! They offer two different flavors and two kinds of dipping sauce that compliments the wings well. If you ever get a chance to stop at the Appleton farmer's market which is great in itself, don't forget to stop at their food stand that offers chicken wings and spring rolls.
