Takeout late on Saturday: The lettuce leftovers

Post COVID, Carlos has returned to its glory. The menu features a mix of traditional French and Italian standards, done very very well. The French onion soup, the steak frittes, chicken parm, etc are all top drawer. Wines and desserts. A nicely elegant spot that's a fave of Palm Beach's elites. Has excellent pizza too. Shhhhh.

My husband and I went in for a Valentine's Day dinner and it did not disappoint! It's a cozy little romantic dining room that is so cute! They start you off with complementary fried zucchini which was lovely. For entrees, He had the duck, and I had the Branzino which were both delicious. All the while the service was incredible. My glass was never empty, and my table never got dirty. The host/ owner was terrific at anticipating the needs of the guests. He recommended crème brûlée for dessert and that was an awesome choice! We will be back!

Full disclosure, we have been coming to this restaurant for years. Carlos and team never lets us down! It's a small family owned restaurant consisting of 10-15 tables. The zucchini chips are like lays...you can't have just one! They have a great fall menu app, dinner desert for 46 bucks! Where can you go in 2022 and they use crumb cleaners on the white linen? We always have a great meal and the team always makes us feel special.

It truly shows the care, passion, and quality behind this restaurant. The restaurant has a great number of staff members, and throughout the entire meal, the service was attentive and thoughtful. It's these little touches that show their professionalism and dedication. Every dish was delicious, with fresh ingredients and excellent flavors. The atmosphere is elegant, clean, and comfortable, and the entire team is professional and welcoming. The food, the ambiance, and the service are all outstanding. As the night progressed, it did get busier. James was our server. He was exceptional. He provided us with purse hooks the minute we sat down at our table which I found to be a nice touch. He took my friend and I on a unique culinary journey that neither of us will ever forget! His hard work throughout the evening was beyond apparent. He was patient, kind, accommodating and comical! He helped my friend and I make decisions regarding the menu and I love when servers give raw honesty about the dishes on the menu. We started off with the Le Souffle Au Fromage which is the award winning signature dish since the year 1972 believe it or not! It was a doughy, light consistency made of Gruyère cheese, Parmesan, white truffle oil and it came with a small side garden salad. This dish is an absolute must if you're visiting La Goulue for the first time. We also ordered a cheese board which came with about 5 different cheeses, nuts, apples, purple grapes, and crunchy warm bread. We opted for version without salami. James recommended us to order a steak item that was NOT included on the normal menu. He told us it's recommended to order as medium rare. It came with string beans, grilled onions on top and potatoes au gratin. The food was so fresh and delicious!!! We ordered the chocolate mousse for dessert which was perfect as it was pretty light. When I left I didn't feel extremely full or uncomfortable. I will DEFINITELY be back soon!

We sat indoors and arrived a bit early, so it wasn't too busy at first, but the room filled in nicely as the evening went on. Beautiful space, and our server Juan was terrific -- personable, knowledgeable, attentive... clearly a seasoned pro who knows the menu inside and out. Started with a Kronenbourg 1664 from France to set the tone. My Pork Chop, served with an absolutely incredible morel mushroom sauce, was a standout -- a real "thing of beauty." Highly recommended. My guest enjoyed the Beef Carpaccio and Moules Marinière with frites -- both excellent choices. Was hoping the Crème Brûlée would complete the Parisian transformation, but while good, it didn't quite reach the level of the best versions in France. Valet parking is very close and complimentary (be sure to get your ticket validated), though navigating the one-way streets to get there can be a bit tricky. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I ordered the lobster ravioli (which I love, so I had high hopes... how do you mess that up?) and it just was not good. I only finished it because I was hungry. It was bland, and the flavor it did have wasn't enjoyable. The pasta itself was well made, but everything else fell flat. My friend was also underwhelmed (to say the least) by her lobster salad. They didn't have the wine we originally wanted, and the one recommended to us was honestly terrible... I should've sent it back. Overall, about $70 down the drain. Definitely not worth it for me, and I will not be going back.

Everything was going so well until the bill arrived - glad I actually review my bills. A quick note: the Wagyu burger comes with three sides, and the side portions are enormous, definitely enough to share. I personally prefer my burger well done, which can sometimes come across as overcooked, so that's something to keep in mind depending on your preference. For entrées, we also tried the filet mignon au poivre and the scallops with asparagus (the special of the day), both of which were well prepared and enjoyable. Her recommendations were spot on, and she made the entire experience feel celebratory without ever being intrusive. We started with the mussels, served with outstanding crusty bread. The white wine shallot sauce was, without question, the best I've ever had--rich, balanced, and absolutely crave-worthy.
