Cafe Flora was a nice change of pace from our usual spots in northern Palm Beach County. It's outdoor only so most likely only works as a seasonal spot, but in late February, it was perfect! We were able to get reservations on a Friday night on the day of, every other spot we checked on the island was fully booked, but we had a good time. Anywhere you go on the island, you expect an elevated service experience. Our server was good, but disappeared for quite some time. As for the food, I got the salmon, which I found enjoyable but it carried a relatively small portion with only asparagus as a side. Other sides were à la carte, we didn't opt to add more. My husband got the filet, which he added a small side of scalloped potatoes to (included with meal). My mother in-law also ordered the salmon, but it was a bit undercooked for her liking. We also ordered the shrimp cocktail, which had a lovely cocktail sauce, but the shrimp were a little squishy. The highlight of the night was definitely the dessert selection. However, my wife and I were VERY TURNED OFF by the restaurant's written notation on the menu that it does not allow diners to share entrees or request half orders of pastas. It was beautiful, in a little court yard tucked away from Worthy Dr. it reminded my husband and I of the little restaurants we had gone to in Amalfi! We hadn't made dinner reservations and were having trouble getting a table somewhere, but stumbled across Cafe Via Flora and were seated immediately. To start, we ordered a selection of mocktails, which I thought were just okay. We were served complimentary bread which was very good, but the sauce it was served with was excellent. For appetizers, we shared the Beef Carpaccio and Tuna Poke Crips. Both were quite tasty. For our entrees, we ordered the Linguini Vongole Alla Positano, the Bone-in Veal Milanese, and the Tagliatelle Bolognese "Old School." The latter was my favorite, but everything was great. Soft music playing in the background of the prettiest private courtyard settings mirroring the side streets of Capri Italy . I cannot believe the service me and my family received walking into this place. Our reservation was for 5:15pm, we arrived a little early and had no problem sitting and waiting for our table while enjoying a cocktail. We are now ordering drinks and I said to the waitor "do you have any jui-" he cuts me off saying "we do not have a kids menu" I said "you don't have any juice you mix with cocktails?" I guess he realized a restaurant ALWAYS has something for a child and offers a Shirley temple, I said perfect!......THENNNNN when we were done eating, I asked him kindly to take a picture, he replies "well hurry up because I have a lot of tables".. I've stopped by Café Flora a couple of times and have found their food to be very good and top of the line in quality. I've found their gazpacho soup to be one of the best. And, one dish they have which is not common to most restaurants is a tenderloin of veal. The one I had came with a side of potato and vegetables, was perfectly seasoned and done exactly as order. At $44.00 I thought most reasonable for what I had, especially considering the location on Worth Avenue to be one of the most exclusive and fashionable in the world. What I particularly like is the atmosphere of their patio seating which, instead of being right on the avenue, is in the walkway behind the storefronts. I also stop here on a Sunday afternoon just to enjoy a few cocktails, but was rather rudely told that Café Flora was a restaurant, not a bar, and unless I had something to eat, no cocktails. I was rather taken back by that since we were the only people there, and the waiter could have been a little more professional and polite about it. Like I probably would have had something to eat with my second drink, but after that surly lecture about the differences between a restaurant and a bar, no way. As a frequent traveler due to the demands of my profession, I often find myself journeying across South America, Europe, and within my home country. While locating a restaurant is a relatively straightforward task, discovering an exceptional one proves to be a challenge. Recently, I encountered Cafe Flora in West Palm Beach. Given my status as a Floridian residing in close proximity, I opted to visit this establishment for a Valentine's Day dining experience. I secured an 18:45 reservation, albeit with the unexpected requirement to prepay for the booking online, totaling an exact sum of $317.50 at the insistence of my wife. This amount covered a three-course meal, excluding cocktails, spirits, or wine, and notably encompassed a mandatory 20% gratuity. Upon our arrival, we were captivated by the remarkable ambiance of the outdoor seating area, evoking a distinctly European atmosphere. Regrettably, the culinary offerings did not measure up to the setting. In comparison to the service and cuisine provided by Chops, Kalutz, Okeechobee Steakhouse, and Aglio Italian Restaurant, Cafe Flora fell short in terms of quality. I strongly advise against investing time and money in this exorbitantly priced establishment. I sampled the lamb, which left me with a lukewarm impression, while my wife opted for the chicken. For appetizers, I selected the spicy tuna, and she chose a type of salad. As for dessert, we both indulged in an Italian doughnut, the name of which escapes me. In hindsight, I estimate that our meal should have amounted to approximately $200, exclusive of gratuity. Regrettably, we overpaid for an experience that ultimately delivered only mediocre service and cuisine, lacking the anticipated "wow" factor. It appears that the requirement to prepay for reservations may have been implemented to ensure guest attendance. However, I have resolved never to repeat this experience, and I would have adjusted the tip to 10% to reflect the level of service received. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the items listed on the online menu at the time of our reservation were not available at the restaurant. It appeared that certain menu items had been omitted. Specifically, I had intended to order the 10-ounce filet, which, to my disappointment, was not an option according to the server. When I pointed out that it was listed on the online menu, he simply apologized. Additionally, the key lime pie, which had been advertised on the online Valentine's Day menu, was also absent upon our arrival. In light of these discrepancies, it seems that my initial expectations were not met. As the saying goes, "fool me once, shame on you." FYI parking is a mess including valet (we did valet and waited 35 minutes before our car was brought to us) find parking and walk it. read more
