Didn't plan to write this review. I fell compelled to share my poor experience with Maison La Fork cake. No one who is invited to my grandson's birthday was happy with the cake. After being told how much the cake was purchased for I was just speechless. The quality of the cake was so bad, so dry and have no test. Please do not order from this bakery as they shouldn't be in this business.

I just received my the pastries I ordered for the Persian New Year, and they are absolutely STUNNING!!! I ordered the Diba Collection, Nokhodchi, and Toot. First as I opened the package, the pastel colored boxes immediately transported me into spring and fond memories of celebrating Norooz. As I opened the boxes, the smell of rose water and cardamom were intoxicating! I was then greeted by the details- the wax embossed "M" and the stunning artwork. The detailing in the packaging far exceed my expectations.  Just when I thought it couldn't get better,  I had a bite of the Nokhodchi, never have I ever tasted a more tender and flavorful Nokhodchi! To be honest, I only ordered it initially out of tradition of having it, but WOW, it was absolutely delicious.  For those who are familiar with this pastry, this can be a dry pastry and not flavorful- BUT NOT MAISON! This Nokhodchi was perfection! The toot also was so perfect in texture also, almost creamy it melted in my mouth so beautifully. Everything we tasted far exceed what we could have imagined to say the least.. Also I wanted to add, the customer service was very thorough and kind. I had several questions and Paris responded to everyone question in a timely and thoughtful manner. We will definitely be ordering again, they have a customer for life.

I love everything else about…read moreCream Pan, but honestly, the line to select your pastry and the checkout is so UN-USER-FRIENDLY. The self service, pre-made lunch bentos, sandos and sushi area is fine, but once you need assistance from a worker, it starts getting ridic. How so? You speak to whomever is attempting to assist you OVER and UNDER a twenty-four year old counter area that holds the pastries and/or through a tiny hole in the cabinets. You can hardly make eye contact with the person, because all the pastry is in between where you are standing and where they are standing. Some people are tall, some short, but regardless, there is NO WAY to have a conversation with them. They are trying to see what exactly you are possibly pointing to in the case, but as noted, you're talking thru a case of pastry. This is also true at the Fountain Valley location, where they only have a very small counter to check out with many people standing in line trying to have someone collect their order from the back. HAS ANYONE HERE SEEN THE SELF SERVICE process at 85 degrees? All their pastry is individually wrapped and you calmly walk through the SELF SERVICE pastry area with a tray and tongs to help yourself. If you'd like to pass the person in front of you, it's easy and doable because there is plenty of room and it doesn't make anyone feel like you are taking "cuts". Once you get to the end, the cashier totals up your tray and puts it in a bag or box for you. Done & Done. Let me reiterate that your pastry and food are all above par and I know you've been in business since 2002 and let me commend you for 24 years of service, but it's time to CHANGE IT UP to a more user friendly process. It's not appealing to anyone in this busy day and age that there is a line out the door, ONLY BECAUSE THE PROCESS INSIDE NEEDS HELP! It's also more sanitary that the pastry and breads are wrapped ahead of time as I saw a fly inside the case today. Ugh.

Scratch Bakery Cafe is located in a big plaza with Trader Joe. There are many people outside sitting and eating. You order up front and pay before getting a table. Right when you walk in, there are tons of bags filled with English Muffins, however, they are called Manna buns for trademark reasons. The Manna buns come in plain, sesame, and everything seasonings. I ended up going with plain. The bun is super yummy. I made eggs and avocado sandwich with the bun and couldn't wait to eat them every day. They are pretty big, so I only eat half. They also sell bakery items. I got an oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that was delicious and a Banana's Foster Knock Knock. I absolutely love this and so happy the lady suggested it. It was like an upgraded ding dong but like a banana nut cake and chocolate. Overall, if you're looking for English muffins or some sweet this is definitely your place to try.

Of the $100 dollars I spent getting a variety of goodies, here's my breakdown: The ding dong things- way too chocolatey rich with minimal cream filling, never again The Chicago bran muffin delicious, sticky with nuts and raisins I think The cinnamon rolls, meh, never again, dry not expected The buns, made hamburgers at home they were actually better than expected! Soft light The cream puffs they tasted decent but left an afterfilm of the full fat cream in the center so never again The strawberry custard croissants were my favorite, this outshined them all! If am ever in the area I would get those for sure. But for the prices being so much, not sure why people frequent this place.

Food: 2/5 There was a case filled with pastries and I decided to try the beef and potato as it looked popular based on its limited supply. There were no prices available so I assumed, the size it was, that the total would be around $7. However, this pastry was almost $14! I was disappointed by the price and lack of flavor inside. The pastry was buttery but not as flaky as I'd hoped for. Service: 3/5 Walking into the bakery I was glad to be welcomed inside and asked if I had any questions by a young lady. After deciding what I wanted to order I waited in line. The older gentleman at the register was not as friendly. I felt rushed when I was ordering and it felt as if he didn't want to be there. Ambiance: 3/5 The interior is very limited in space, especially when trying to line up to order. There were no tables available or space to wait for your take out order. Overall: 3/5 Overall the prices and service were disappointing to say the least.
