Fuyu has been around for many years. I've walked by numerous times but somehow, this was my very first visit! This is a very busy neighborhood restaurant, so don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table! Ambiance, decor and service was great! Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Prices were very reasonable and affordable! Service was quick. Fuyu uses the freshest ingredients and you can tell they take great care in preparing their dishes! These are the dishes we tried tonight: - Karage Chicken 5pcs/$9 - Fuyu Chicken Wings 5pcs/$9 - Tantanmen Ramen w.added Chashu ($16.50+$3.50) - Tonkotsu Ramen $15 - Chashu Dupbap $10 Overall, everything was very good; especially the Ramen and Dupbap dishes. I found the Tantanmen a little overly salty but still pretty good. There are many other great items on their menu. Next time, I'd like to try their various buns, which looked terrific! For most Sunnysiders, ramen wasn't a thing until Fuyu came along. 7 years and many bowls later, it has become a fixture in the neighborhood for Asian eats in a casual setting and remains a dependable lunch and dinner option in the area. In terms of aesthetics, Fuyu does it best work at night. The intimate vibe is captured well, through their soft evening lighting with date night vibes and ample seating. It's a tight squeeze with big groups, so keep it in mind since everyone will likely sit on a stool. To no one's surprise, the food remains the star. When they first started, the tonkotsu was the usual choice, but they've since graduated to other types of ramen from tsukemen to tantan mien. Their hiyashi chuka is a seasonal noodle dish and worth inquiring upon arrival. Despite it all, I'd probably end up ordering the original tonkotsu at the end of the day. Ramen is really only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their extensive menu, which now serves katsu burgers in addition to their sushi burrito, fried squid, and classic selections takoyaki and gyoza. The slew of Korean dishes (such as the dupbab) still gives me a double take. Prices for a bowl of ramen are in the $16-19 range. It might feel pricey, because it is. The service makes for a big part of the experience and they have been solid. This is no destination per se, but a solid neighborhood worthy spot that deserves a look when craving slurp worthy ramen. read more

We frequently visit this ramen shop if we are taking the 7 train into Manhattan. It's the perfect ending to a busy day shopping and sightseeing. It's our second favorite ramen after Slurp in Port Jeff, Long Island. I usually get the tonkotsu and it is super flavorful and rich. This time I had the chicken chashu and it was fabulous, too. We've had shrimp shumai, ribs, and a few other appetizers in the past. Everything is always very nicely done and the service is top notch, fast and friendly. This unassuming little noodle shop right near the Bliss St station is worth the trip - whether you are coming from Manhattan, eastern Long Island or are a local! If you live near the 7 line, it's a quick trip! The restaurant is big enough that there's not usually a huge wait but still cozy. We love the corner table in the back. The decor is simple and elegant. What really sets Fu Yu apart is the service, quality and selection. My friend went so far as to say it was the best ramen he's ever tasted. The karaage is tender and crispy, not rubbery. And the servings are huge. I just wish they had wooden chopsticks. We typically go to Susuru Ramen in LIC as our go to authentic Japanese ramen restaurant, but instead today we wanted to try a different joint. So came across this place and stepping in, it is quite a huge place with large table side table in the front and several 4 top and 2 top in the rear. We ordered Kurobuta sausage and smashed cucumbers for starters. The cucumber had this delicious spicy feel but definitely not spicy at all and quite scrumptious. The sausage came in 4 pieces with mustard on the side. It is slightly a tad on the salty side but nonetheless worth trying. For entree, I got the classic Tonkotsu ramen $15 and my wife got the half half poke bowl of tuna and salmon for $15 and paid $2.50 extra for marinated egg. Both these dishes were amazing. The ramen broth was rich and the ramen was cooked el dente and the pork chashu was marinated well. The poke bowl was filling and the wasabi aioli complimented the bowl. Ate here today by myself on a cold Thursday afternoon that I had brought, ordered and ate the takoyaki as an appetizer, then the pork tonkatsu ramen and mango mochi ice cream for dessert. As an overall, it had tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive and extremely friendly, patient and pleasant and many thanks to server named Angela who kept smiling at me while I'm enjoying my meal. So I came back! While I didn't get the Ramen this time, I noticed that the menu in the restaurant definitely had more options than the menu for online ordering. This time, I opted for a rice dish and veggie bun. Both were very flavorful. If you like mushrooms you will like the veggie rice dish. However, if you're like me and doing exposure therapy to mushrooms - I highly recommend the veggie bun! The veggie rice dish has really yummy fried tofu. Additionally. I really enjoyed the gochujang aioli and would recommend you ask for extra sauce with whatever you try. Cute ramen spot in Sunny side, was pleasantly surprised with the quality. Came here on a winter night craving some ramen to warm us up. We ordered takoyaki and karage to start, ramens, and concluded our meal with some mochi. Pretty standard takoyaki, unremarkable. But the karage was cooked and seasoned to perfection. We loved the sauce it came with, not your usual spicy mayo. Even came with a refreshing side of greens to balance out the fried chicken. Ramen was good, glad I was able to customize the noodle type (I like the wavy thick noods). If you love tsukamen like I do, and can't go another day commuting from queens, I have good news. Fuyu ramen has tsukamen! Inside is such a cozy shop with calm music, and it's bright as well, perfect for this cold winter! We were served right away and the food was definitely high quality. The server was also very polite! We started off with apps like ... Tako Wasabi -- we loved how the wasabi wasn't overbearing and the balance of flavors with the citrus was so present Ebi Potato -- we loved how it was thin and crispy but still had a good chunk of shrimp To only lead to our holy grail ... Tsukamen -- we were nervous about this because we can't find good tsukamen anywhere. However, this place exceeded my expectations. The broth wasn't too salty, the noodles were extremely bouncy, the charsui was charred well, and I loved how the noodles sucked in the juices. Overall, good service and good flavor broth. I wished the ramen was more traditional using sliced pork instead of grounded pork. That cheapens out the bowl. Then charging for chasiu pork. Traditional miso ramen should be sliced pork bellies. Soup is good but very small bowl, the bottom is shrunken while rhr top looks wide. Since this place is called Fuyu Ramen it is obvious Ramen is the main focus here, but seeing how the menu of Fuyu Ramen has expanded over the years to include a larger number of appetizers and smaller dishes and they offer a solid selection of beer, sake, and soju you wouldn't be wrong to consider this place an Izakaya - especially when I compare it to the American interpretations I have been to in NYC. To me this is a good thing. For me this place is a bit of destination spot since I don't live nearby, but damn if I did I would find myself stopping in to have an after work beer at the small bar, or counter table along with a couple of snacks. The buns I tried are all top notch - fluffy pillowy buns, filled with quality lightly fried shrimp or chicken, or melt in your mouth pork along with generous dressing are very satisfying. Tako Wasabi is tasty, but perhaps a bit more slimy then other versions I've had. Every dish I've tried and seen comes out beautifully presented and delicious. Don't get me wrong - this is also a solid ramen spot and despite my frequency in going to ramen places I am not a tremendous ramen fan. I also don't know if I am the best judge since when I read reviews and hear others talk they have ethereal nearly orgasmic experiences with ramen where I am usually like... this is a satisfying bowl of soup. So I may not be the best judge, but this is one of my top spots in Queens for sure. I generally stick with Tonkotsu, but I also enjoyed the Hiyashi Chuka I had over the summer. Really everything about the place I enjoy - the modern decor, the friendly and efficient service, the delicious food and large selection, solid beer and sake choices. The place is also busy each time I have been in here so its a good sign that many are fans of this place as well. If you find yourself in this part of Queens, or even if you want to make it a destination like I do I think you will find the experience worthwhile. read more

Many friends recommended my Fuyu Ramen so I had to come check it out. I started with TAKOYAKI, which was quite good and fresh, you could taste the little bites of octopus and the moving dried bonito on top! Then I went for the CLASSIC TONKOTSU RAMEN which is the perfect combination of pork broth with pork, veggies and egg. A little out of the way for me, but worth the trip. There is a lot of street parking. The restaurant is on the smaller side but tables are spaced comfortably. Funnily, I've been here a few times and I swear I've sat at the same table each time. It is well lit with music playing softly in the background. For any accidentally messes or just messy eating, you can wash your hands outside of the bathroom! Usually there's one person working at the bar (and takeout - they seem to get a lot of takeout), and another for the tables. The Tako Wasabi could use more wasabi, but tasted fresh and had a good bite to it. Good appetizer if you don't want a clear your sinuses amount of wasabi. I would love if this dish came with some nori to eat with (such a good combo!) The Spicy Miso Ramen with Chicken Broth (can get it with Chicken or Tonkotsu) is flavorful, with snappy thin noodles. It's not too spicy but has a nice kick. They give a decent portion. I am full when I finish eating. A Kaedama (Extra Noodles) can be ordered if you're still feeling hungry. The Matcha Cheesecake is a has a more doughy crust than a graham cracker crust. Good matcha flavor and an airy texture. read more

I really enjoyed the ambience of this place and loved that there were so many sole eaters since I've been working on getting better at eating out alone. It was super cozy inside despite the rain that was going on and the service was pretty quick. I ordered quite a bit of food since I was starving. I got the Croquette, Takoyaki (my absolute favorite), and the Chicken Ramen. Everything was the right temperature, right amount of flavor and seasoning, and made with absolute care. I can still taste everything days later. I have been coming to Fuyu ever since I had a friend move to Sunnyside and I've become a regular there. It's become "our spot" and it hasn't let us down. If you look at my reviews I am a ramen connoisseur, and I have to say I just love this spot. This particular time I snagged the lunch special, which got me Tonkotsu Ramen and Chashu Pork rice bowl for $17. It was pretty filling and very savory, which I love, especially the pork in the rice bowl. One thing I don't particularly love is how oily the ramen sometimes is but it's nothing unbearable. I am a BIG fan of the noodle type they use, which is a very big plus for me. In the past I've had chicken Shio Ramen and Karaage chicken bao, all of which I love. If you ever hop off the 7 train on 46th and Bliss, this is the place to go! Also, I am a HUGE fan of the aesthetic and how clean it always smells in there. I sometimes can smell the cleaning product when it's a little emptier, and it makes my cleanliness heart so happy. read more

I'd rate Fuyu four and a half stars. I had a pint of Asahi with the spicy miso pork broth ramen. The pint was perfect! Crispy and creamy head. Ramen was savory and mildly spicy. OK, so credit goes to my teenage sister, who recommended this place to me. The ramen was delicious. If you only eat halal like me, authentic Japanese ramen places can get tricky as there are usually very limited options for those with such dietary restrictions. They definitely had vegetable ramen, but it looked boring (judging from the ingredients listed, which included vegetable broth, I knew it wouldn't taste good). They did have another option called spicy vegetable miso, which is what I went for. I highly recommend going for this option. I generally don't like miso soup, such as the ones that come with sushi takeout. However, this miso soup was on a whole new level. I knew beforehand that this would be too big to finish. Naturally, only half was finished by the time I was full. Order when you are really hungry! My other favorite item was the soft shell crab bao bun! The crab was fresh and crispy. My only complaint is that each bun is about $7; kind of expensive for what it is. Makes a great snack/appetizer though! I will definitely come back again . The staff was very nice and it wasn't very crowded for a weekend evening. I want to come back and try the Matcha cheesecake, which was all run out when I asked. read more

Service was good. It was getting busy on a Friday night but the staff managed the tables well even though it's not a large space. The fried chicken wings were...different. The coating tasted like candy rather than crispy. It was unusual and not to my liking but it others may think otherwise. The fried oysters were great. However, I would not spend $12 for 4 oysters. I got the spicy miso and I rate it 2/5. It lacked the spicy taste. The bamboo was the biggest turn off. It tasted incredibly fishy. I've had bamboo before but I never had bamboo change the entire taste of the ramen. Quite a disappointment. My husband got the classic tonkatsu ramen. It was good but the soup lacked depth. The noodles were different from both of these dishes. The spicy miso had thicker and chewy noodles. The classic resembled Angel hair noodles. They have a lot of variety for their ramen. This place has been bookmarked for awhile now and I finally got a chance to try it out. Not many places are opened for lunch in the vicinity during the weekdays so glad that this was as I had really enjoyed eating the ramen. The service was great and the ambiance. They played kpop music throughout and the decor was cute. The food was very presentable and it makes you want to take pictures of it all. I liked how we stayed for awhile longer just chatting and they didn't try to kick us out like other places would just bring you the check as a reminder to leave. We ordered the gyoza - dumpling which were alright and each ordered our own ramen. I got the champong one which has seafood in it and it was very tasty. I should've shown an after picture of the damage done. My friend who came with us said the menu has changed since she's last been there so the rice bowls are fairly new. Asahi beer: not as hoppy as Blue Moon and Samuel Adam's. Great for people who usually don't like beer. Matcha Cheesecake: You get two slices! This done in Japanese style making them airy and creamy. I ordered the Spicy Miso and substituted the ground pork with char siu (which was at no additional charge!) Wow, the char siu was incredibly tender, perfectly fatty, and smokey at the same time. The half soft boiled egg had a lovely pre-marinated taste. The touch of saffron did not go unnoticed! The broth itself was a smidge on the salty side and not very spicy at all.
