My favorite is the grilled lamb chops, which are really flavorful and tender. And the price is very decent for this cut of meat too! I also got to try their mango lassi too, it was very refreshing! If I have a chance to travel back...

I have never been treated so poorly by a business establishment in my life. The level of resistance, lack of accountability, and outright accusation from the staff member--especially the man at the pick-up counter--was appalling. I spent my money and all I asked for was the complete and correct order. When I arrived, I clearly identified my bag on the pick-up shelf with my name and a list of items ordered. The male employee at the counter initially told me the order was not mine, stating it was a different order. It was only after I repeated my full name and confirmed the contents that he

...grudgingly admitted, "Oh yeah, it's yours." After beginning to eat, I realized my order of three chicken and lamb kabob meals contained only one white sauce and one green sauce. I immediately returned to ask for two additional sets...

of sauces (one of each per meal, for a total of three of each). The same employee insisted he had packed the bag and that I was incorrect, claiming I already had three sauces. He eventually provided the requested sauces, but again insisted he knew what he put in the bag and that I was wrong. The final, and most infuriating, issue was with the bread. I found my bag contained only the standard naan bread that comes with each meal, not the Garlic Naan I had paid extra for. I returned to the store a third time, showed the employee the three pieces of naan that clearly had no garlic, and requested the correct item. At this point, the employee's behavior became completely unacceptable. He stated he knew what he put in the bag and accused me of lying about the bread. He then escalated the situation by claiming I had also lied about the sauce and even about the number of meals I had purchased. All I was asking for was the correct food I had paid for. To be repeatedly called a "liar" by an employee in front of other customers was an incredibly humiliating and utterly unprofessional experience. This was the most degrading experience I have ever had from an establishment. Due to the staff's complete disregard for customer service and their willingness to accuse a paying customer, I will not be patronizing this business again, nor will my family.

Food was excellent. First time having Afghani food - it reminds me of a Mediterranean and Indian fusion cuisine. Ordered the chicken kebab entrée. Chicken was very tender. Rice is very flavorful salad also was flavorful and refreshing with acidic accents from the onions. Red was also warm, crispy, and delicious to pair with the meal. Would come again. Happened to come out a very busy night where there was a show at the theater close by. The tables were not bussed as quickly. Also, all meals required a 18% gratuity fee, which is not ideal. Ambience can arrange from casual to low fancy. Perfect for a meal before a show, date night, or gathering with family and friends. Area is slightly challenging for parking, most likely would have to pay. Would recommend to use the public transport system.

Another fabulous meal here before a Sunday matinee at Hippodrome. The meats are so moist and flavorful. The pita are rice are good. Even the fresh, crisp side salad. Definitely our go-to place when in the area.

Very good quality food, exceptional service, pleasant atmosphere, and extremely good bang for your buck. Service is seat yourself, and you order from a desk at the front. In the picture each entree was $14 each (Tandoori Chicken and Lamb Gyro Platter) and the Hummus was $7. Hummus was some of the best I've ever had, gyro was fantastic. And for the price the serving size was far larger than I expected- especially for being in downtown Baltimore. Strongly recommend coming! Especially recommend if seeing a show at the CFG Bank Arena and want to eat beforehand!

One of the best restaurants ever. It is very conveniently next to Hippodrome and they do a great job keeping the place clean when busy. The service is quick and friendly. We actually tried most of their menu and got tbe lamb and chicken tikka kabobs before our show and somehow I ended up leaving a cell phone there that they graciously found the next day so I ordered most of the rest of the menu to go home. Looking forward to returning.

I come here frequently! The food is always fresh and delicious -- you can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. The service is consistently polite; they greet you warmly and are always kind. My favorite meals are the salmon platter, which comes with Afghan rice, salad, and naan, and the chowpan (lamb chops) -- both are absolutely amazing! 1000% recommend!

Afghani Casual , but the food was beyond my expectations! Was going to the Everyman theater with friends and we needed dinner before- there is not much in the immediate area but this was a solid pre-show grub (without the cocktails though). Ambience : Not really any - similar to the interior of a simple Cava or Cava inside. You pick your table and order at the counter. The Food: It was the star of the night! Everyone at the table loved their dish (lamb and chicken). Even the presentation was beautiful! They also give big portions at a reasonable price. Very tender and flavorful and fresh - all around

Beef Gyro was on the money!!! It was a bit saucy so it got a little messy but was very flavorful. Service was quick and would definitely order again.

Maiwand Grill is conveniently located across the street from the Hippodrome. Wanting to grab a bite before a show, we opted for a sit down warm meal and the first time visit here was just ok. The dining space is open and plenty of seating throughout. True casual dining where you self seat and grab a table first, then order, and staff will bring your food to you. I like to enjoy and feel the warmth of my meal and the metal seat was cold and translates "eat and go". I am not a fan of metal chairs but that's just me. For this visit, we chose the chicken shawarma and the chicken and shrimp kabob platter. After two bites, the chicken shawarma fell apart and quickly became sloppy. Disappointing as these were not sliced but more like chopped chicken and didn't taste fresh, pre-made feel to it. It was missing the snap from the vegetables and the bread itself was soggy. The chicken and shrimp kabob were reported delicious. We also ordered a mango lassi and was sad to learn it was pre-made and stored in the nearby fridge with the rest of the grab and go drinks. The taste barely hit the mark, otherwise if it were made fresh would've tasted different. While the service was quick and transactional, the food left much to be desired. I'm not sure I'll return to this location, will find alternatives for dinner before heading to the Hippodrome.

Food here is good. I usually come here for lunch. They have a different daily lunch special for about $10.99, which is a good deal. The only issue I have is the consistency of their food. I got a chicken gyro platter and this past time they barely put any fries. I literally got 7 fries thrown on top of my platter. In the past, I have gotten a whole side of fries. The same goes with the Afghan Tea ($5.99 for a pot). Sometimes I get a black tea, sometimes it is a green tea. In terms of the service, you have to bus your own table, which sometimes is an issue because they have trash receptacles with a swing door. It gets messy sometimes. They have a decent sized dining area, but there is limited street parking available.

I ordered from here on Uber Eats on a sick day at home and the food came both quickly and very fresh. Mango Lassi 4.5/5, this was just a bit thicker than I liked my lassis to be, but otherwise sweet and delightful to pair with my meal Tandoori Garlic Naan 3/5, this was a basic garlic naan, I was super full from my meal so if I placed a repeat order, I would omit this Lamb and Chicken Kabob Combo 4.5/5, the lamb is soft and melts in your mouth and is seasoned a traditional way. The chicken is unique, the seasoning reminded me of a barbecue smokey seasoning? Regardless, I did also enjoy the chicken. The rice that comes with this has sweet raisins in it that I loved, though I didn't like the side salad that came with this. Baklava 4/5, okay so this was good! But the portion sizing of the baklava was small, about 3 small pieces that you could eat within a single bite each and for this, I've given it the 4/5.

What a pleasant surprise! I came here before a concert at CFG Bank Arena with some friends on a Thursday night. I had heard about this restaurant when I still lived in Baltimore, but had never visited. When we first walked in, we saw the signs to pick a table first before ordering, so that's what we did. We perused the menu online and made our selections. I ordered the Lamb & Chicken Platter, Mango Lassi, and the Aushak to share. Both were SOOO good. Honestly, I had wished I wore stretchier pants because the portions were super generous too. We also shared the beef samosas and the Garlic Cheese Nan. Both were good, but I don't necessarily order again. Everyone kept saying how good their food was all night, so it truly was a hit. Bellies and hearts were full. The place itself has a fast-casual feel and an open concept. There's lots of Afghani decorations all around and adds a homey vibe. Everyone was super kind and nice. The food came out quickly.

Maiwand grill is one of my most visited restaurants in Baltimore! The meat is halal and usually grilled well with tasty vegetable sides as well. The prices are slightly too high, but still competitive with this genre of food. If you're looking for a solid halal spot, definitely recommend. PS, the bread is fresh made and delicious! read more

I stumbled up this place while visiting from California and WOW it was good! Super generous serving of food on the veggie platter and an awesome variety. Yelpers do it again! Leading me to yet another great find! Food is fresh, large portions, and pretty inexpensive. The Ashuak appetizer (Afghan ravioli w/ yogurt, spice, and chickpea?) was a fabulous start and the beef kabob well flavored and cooked to a good temperature. Add a nice side salad, grilled onion and tomato, pita and delicious nutmeg rice and you've got yourself a great meal. The chicken kabob wasn't impressive so maybe should have tried for the Tikka version but the rice was surprisingly aromatic and flavorful. read more

I love Maiwand at Hanover in terms of the portion size and taste of the food better than this location. Decor- This particular Maiwand is quite spacious. It attracts mostly office goers on weekdays. Food- I ordered Chicken Seek Kabob. I'm not very good d of salad so I asked it to be replaced with chickpeas curry. The restaurant happily substituted the salad. I found the portion less in comparison Maiwand at Hanover- not sure if they are a chain. The food was okay. Like I said, I love the taste of the same dish at Maiwand, Hanover. I had to order a additional side of rice. I also had Bakhlava which was very good. Service- Very slow and confusing! The extra side of dish arrived half hour after the chicken kabob entree was served. The server was also confused if I had ordered it and was roaming around with the rice from table to table. Price-Same as other Maiwand's. read more

The food is barely decent overall. Appetizers were good -- pumpkin kadu was reasonably tasty (but not as good as Helmand's version), as were the potato samosas. The entrees were disappointing -- the chicken chili kabob was just OK, the chapli (beef) kabob was overly salty, and the side dishes of seasoned rice were inedible (tasted like burnt plastic). The atmosphere was off. It felt a little like an Afghan version of Chipotle in terms of seating and ordering, except with rudimentary and slow table service. The guy taking orders and operating the cash register had the congeniality of an executioner. The glass I received for the water was covered in fingerprint smudges (I picked up a disposable plastic one instead). I felt no joy eating here. Probably OK for take out, if you choose wisely, but not recommended for dining in, which is a shame, since it's right by the Hippodrome. read more

The chicken and lamb combo was dry even with all the sauces they gave me to put on it. However, on a good note the side of rice and salad was good, they had excellent customer service, and my friend stated his salmon and shrimp were very delicious. I would return but not for the same entree. read more

All the kabobs are nicely marinated and well cooked. Their in house Naan Bread with green sauce are refreshing appetizers. Nice and clean environment for family. Obviously everything is Halal and each dishes comes with good portion for a person. read more

We cannot tell you enough how much we love your chicken kabob and Kabuli rice! Anytime we are in MD whether the downtown location or Elk Landing we know your restaurant is a must. We live in Michigan and travel for work. We love it so much we tried recreating this for dinner and it's the first time we failed at cooking anything. We are sitting here in complete disappointment. I have never had Afghani food but it is relatively similar to Indian and Middle Eastern food. I went with a delish chicken kabob and the rice was REALLY delicious! It was delicious yet different, a perfect mix of savory and sweet. Everyone agreed the rice was what really made the meal. Their baklava was really good too. In fact it was too good because I ate it all in one sitting. heh. For people traveling on a budget, this is an excellent stop. read more

Have you not been to Maiwand Yet? Get in the car and go go GO! Seriously, I can't believe I haven't written a review yet, as their rice haunts my dreams (both night and day) as it is so delicious. Chock full of spices and raisins, I could literally eat a vat of rice. I usually get chicken kabob, which is marinated and spiced to perfection. Comes with salad, the forementioned deliciousness of rice, and a huge pita. Yes, it could easily serve as two meals, but why risk someone else eating your left overs?? read more

The tandoori chicken was a little spicier than I expected but very yummy. I forget what it's called but the rice with cardamon, carrots, and raisins is the best, nothing like anything I grew up with but definitely is a great comfort food read more

Oh dang! Soooo delicious! Great service, very accommodating of our large party and even gave us an extra mango lassi. But the food! If you want an eggplant dish, order the eggplant instead of the babaghanoush, both are so delicious but the eggplant has such wonderful flavors! We also had the tandoori shrimp and kofta kabab. The kofta was a little spicy and super yummy! I only visited Baltimore for a week, but definitely considered coming twice in that time! read more

Six of us came here, all foodies, and we all loved it. It was clean, fast, inexpensive, and service was friendly. Lots of vegan/gluten-free options, and only a 10 minute walk from the convention center. AND THE FOOD!!! OMG. Absolutely delicious, piping hot, and clearly freshly made. Would come here again and again - a perfect lunch spot. read more

Let me start by saying that for many years I've been overlooking Afghan food for a while. Since having this really bad experience with the food after being served at a food truck. I decided that I wasn't fan of it. So I've passed by this place a good number of times. When I had finally decided to enter this place after hearing so many great reviews about the good online and also because of my hunger while I was out down town waiting for an evening performance at (Everyman). While also being bored with the other food places around downtown. I decided to give this place a try. The ambience of the restaurant is simplistic and dimlitted and comfortable. The decor around the restaurant gave you the theme of Afghanistan but again simplistic. When you enter the menu is right next to the register, big and bold write in your front of face. So you don't really have to look around a lot for what to order and have a hard rim seeing which was a plus. The person that took my order was friendly. She wasn't overly into it. But okay, for a cashier. I had ordered the: Chicken Kabob which was about 10$. And the Rice Pudding 3$. All together came about 15 something. But let me tell you when I had a first bite of the chicken of the entree! It was delicious!! The chicken was extremely flavorful and tender. The seasonings and sauces were well put together and you could tell that it was well-cooked and grilled to perfection. The rice and the side of salad was also very flavorful! I would like to take a note: that I ordered takeout and you wouldn't believe how many compliments I got on the street just by how flavorful the food smells. It was all very good! Right down to the rice pudding. The spices and the bread that came with the entree was also very pleasing to my stomach the taste alone is making me want to go back!! This place is awesome food destination to go to highly recommend, decent price, nice sitting and could be a good place to eat before a show. But why (4.5stars) because it still leaves a little bit to be desire if they can increase the portions on the chicken that would be nice...but I'll round up to 5 read more

From the moment I walked and saw the menu, I was in love with this place! The restaurant was extremely clean , the counter person friendly and helpful, and the food looked amazing. I ordered the samosas, the pumpkin appetizer, and several other dishes I can not recall the names of. (Sorry). Everything I sampled was purely delicious and flavorful. I'm definitely going back soon. I can't even begin to describe how delicious this meal was. I got the lamb and chicken combo and the Aushka. The Aushka was a little oily for my tastes but the lamb and chicken combo was out of this world. It was flavorful, very slightly spicy, and both meats were cooked to the perfect level of moistness. The rice was sweet, well spiced, and just plain heavenly. It was so much food I ended up eating it for both dinner and breakfast the next day. This is a meal I could eat Every. Single. Day. Get it. Eat it. Your mouth will thank you. read more

The Best Mediterranean food around. Food is made fast and the Lamb, Chicken and Rice combo is my favorite.. The combo platter comes with a small salad and side of Naan bread. Great for Lunch and Dinner. I actually split a combo with my co-workers and get a side of their Spinach. read more

Ordered again from grubhub and the delivery driver never showed up to get the food. The owner personally delivered our food to us even with the roads being a bit messy from the snow. Food just as delicious as the first time and exceptional customer service!! read more

When I walked in with my wife and 2 kids, she thought this would be bad. Despite the great reviews, it looked like a fast food place, which it kinda is -- no table service, bus your own dishes. But after the meal, she was pleasantly surprised by the experience. First, the food is pretty cheap. Entrees are about $10 and you get this massive plate of meat, rice, salad and bread. Amazon's Prime Now delivers Maiwand Grill's food, and it's REALLY good (and it must surely only be even better without the time it takes in transit for delivery). (It's also available for delivery directly through the restaurant, I believe.) The spices on their grilled salmon are just perfect, the naan is really good, my girlfriend liked their tandoori chicken tikka, and we've both enjoyed their potato samosas, potato korma, and bolani (pastries with potato, garlic, and peas inside). This is officially one of my favorite places in Baltimore. I experienced excellent flavor, tender meat, yummy bread (best part), and the green sauce really pulled it all together. I love that you get a well rounded meal for a great price that's unique and has enough variety for you to try different things. I got the afghan ice cream; the flavor were incredibly unique, with notes of cardamom, saffron and rose water. I usually have a problem with rose water in my desserts, as it ends up tasting overly flowery or soapy, but I think it was executed well. The toppings of dates, mangos, and figs went incredibly well with the flavors of the ice cream. My only complaint was the service being a bit slow, but at the time we went it was incredibly busy, and I don't blame the workers. Otherwise, this was a great place to go to for an elevated meal! Screwed my order and when called to ask them why numerous items were missing from what was listed on the Eat24 app for the Family Platter, they gave me the cold shoulder and told me those sides are not included. I took a screenshot of what was on the app that clearly states, "This platter consists of Lamb, Chicken, Kofta and Tandoori Chicken Tikka Kabob, also includes side of Sautéed Spinach and Potato korma. Fresh Salad, Homemade Tandoori Naan and Kabuli Palao is Included. Served family style." Well, you can expect to receive a small 6 inch pan of mixed meats, another of plain rice, and another of salad and 3 pitas. Nothing. Else. No spinach, no korma for $45!!!??? This is my new go-to for when I want really good food but I'm on a budget. You can make a meal with the apps alone for under $20! The Aushak is sooo good. They also have another ground beef app (blanking on the name) which is essentially the beed they use for the Aushak. The Naan is bigger than your head! My wife fancies herself a felafel expert and she says Maiwand's are in her top 3. The only entree I've had is the lamb kabobs and they were excellent. Haven't eaten inside the restaurant so I can't comment on service, ambience, etc. Even if all that were to be subpar I'd imagine it's still worth it because of how good and inexpensive the food is. Lastly, this is the sort of food that's always makes good leftovers. The flavors become even more intense when they have a day or two to mature and concentrate. Have I been transported to Afghanistan?! Nope, but when their chicken tikka touches your lips you'll think you're chilling at a kabob stand in Kabul. My boyfriend's chapli kabob was melt in your mouth amazing. Perfectly paired with incredibly favorful rice and salad with a side of chutney. Dinner size portions at lunch prices! Did I mention the management includes two of the nicest men you'll probably ever meet? Thank you for the complimentary chickpeas! I could not have asked for a better meal. Nice little restaurant in downtown Baltimore. I order more than I could eat just to sample more items. Had two different appetizers ( Pumpkin-Kadu & Eggplant) which were good but , I probably won't order them again . based off of the Yelp reviews i didn't think the two appetizers lived up to their hype. The Chicken and Lamb Kabobs Entree on the other hand, was delicious. The meat was very tender and spiced right. read more

his is the go to spot for Afghan food. I drive from Laurel MD to Baltimore just to get this food. The owner is ultra friendly and customer focus. Staff is accommodating but most importantly the food is the best! Going there tonight...makes the drive well worth it. read more

The food came out fast and it was delicious! We ordered the chicken chili kabob, vegetarian aushak, hummus, and falafel. The order came with all normal fixins' like rice, bread, and a salad. Great service and the manager came out to greet us! I'll be back next time. read more
