Yemen is such a gem. My friend and I went soon before close, and we ordered food to go that was great! We ordered lamb haneeth and ada lamb, both were so so good! For dessert and for the first time, I had. some baklava too! & it was so so good! The owner and servers were nice to us, even with us coming later in the evening. Served hot and quick, take a spot at Yemen when you're in the city!

I visited the restaurant for the first time the other day. Not only was the service amazing the food was equally amazing. The manager/chef came out and greeted me personally and gave suggestions as to what to eat. One of his suggestions was to try the lamb soup and lamb. I shared with him I do not like the taste of lamb because it's gamey. He gently suggested I try again. I am so glad I did! I can now say I enjoy lamb! The soup was phenomenal and the lamb was so tasty it changed my mind about it all together. Thank you chef Ali for opening up my pallet to now enjoy lamb! "Shukran kteer!" Katherine

Summary: Went back for round 2 before I could even write my first review. Although I usually try to weigh my Yelp score based on a few different factors, ever so rarely, there's a time when the food is so spectacular that it blows everything else out of the water. We've had a few dishes here - meat with hummus, lamb sandwich wrap, fahsah, masoub - everything has been top notch. The dining space is on the smaller side, it can get loud with other patrons and the places is a hole-in-the-wall type of establishment, but all of that disappears as soon as you take a bite of that sandwich wrap. The pricing is very good and you get plenty of food and the service has always been great.

Second time coming by and it was even better. Firstly - the prices and portions are a total steal. This place is definitely a hole in the wall, no frills kind of dining. We tried their lamb sandwich (shared between two) which was juicy and flavorful. also shared a chicken stew dish with potatoes and vegetables. This was fantastic but my favorite was definitely the sandwich! You get a lentil soup and salad with every order - soup is mildly seasoned and light, perfect start to the meal. I will be going back for the lamb sandwich. Also, saw someone order the fries which I'm definitely getting the next time. Whole meal with a drink cost less than $30.

It was delicious and would recommend for sure. Service was good and flavour was authentic.

I asked the owner for the most traditional Yemeni meal and I was served a delicious meal with salad, soup, rice, lamb, and a side of potatoes and carrots. All the food looked like it would be bland but it was packed of delicious flavor!! Service was quick even though it was busy during lunch and the owner was by himself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The seating was simple but the food was my best meal in Baltimore![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I also loved the tasty mini guava juice - super refreshing and sweet!

Went here for dinner after a happy hour in Fells and wasn't disappointed. Friendly staff and good prices. The lamb hummus was incredible - some of the best I've ever had. The chicken kabsah didn't blow me away but was solid. Be warned that the sauce that comes with it is INCREDIBLY spicy so not for the faint of heart or stomach. I'll be sure to be back for the hummus soon - would make a great takeout dinner.

    Lamb Zorbian - incredible!

Ah, Yemen & Gulf restaurant, a spot as unassuming as it is delicious. Innocuously perched at a corner on Broadway, Yemen & Gulf offers what is surely the best Yemeni, and probably the best middle eastern food for miles. Their portions are generous, the food delicious, the prices reasonable, and the hours long... what else do you want? Recommendations? Sure. Hard to go wrong I think but the Haneeth and Zorbian have treated me especially well in the large portion of falling-off-the-bone meat with tasty rice category, which is really the only category that matters in my book. I will also say that you want to get one of clay oven breads because they are huge and crispy and delicious and go great with one of the meat dishes. You could get the hummus, which is great, and comes with a giant bread! Honestly this is a hidden gem of Baltimore. It's not "trendy" or anything but the food is incredible and you just gotta try it some night! We usually get take out when we are craving what only Yemen and Gulf can provide.

The food was great. Seemed authentic and tased more like home cooking. The prices were very reasonable. There's street parking if you're picking up. Not really an ideal sit down place - it's small. The meat in the meat hummus wasn't my favorite. And they forgot to include the beef samosas I ordered, but everything else was delicious, especially the chicken Mandi. I'd definitely eat from here again.

Little hole in the wall in Fells Point that's definitely worth stopping for. The staff was polite and helpful. Delicious food that makes fantastic leftovers. The lamb soup (marag if you're trying to look it up online) was a highlight as I had never tried it before. Good baba ghanoush, tender and flavorful agdah lamb and perfectly cooked vegetables. There's a communal tea dispenser in the dining room. It got a little chaotic with both the patrons laughing and cutting up and the owner's kids running around and taking tea to patrons upstairs. I love that this is a place where people can just be with each other over food; it felt homey and comforting.

They really know how to warm a lonely soul by their food... I wish I live closer so I can visit more often. I love the yogurt and tea, which I cannot have by ordering food delivery...

Ask the Community - Yemen & Gulf Restaurant

I have never had Yemen, but with the great reviews I want to try it... what are the must order items for a newbie?

The service was attentive throughout our meal, and every dish arrived beautifully plated with great attention to detail. We started with the Beyti Sujuk Rolls and the Beetroot Hadiqa. The rolls were one of my favorite appetizers. They were crispy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the yogurt and tomato sauce. The Beetroot Hadiqa was equally impressive, with beets, apples, walnuts...it was a refreshing combination of sweet, savory, and creamy flavors. For our entrees, we ordered the Riyash of Lamb and the Freekeh Short Rib. The lamb chops were cooked beautifully and served over couscous with broccolini, while the pistachio crust added a nice texture. The Freekeh Short Rib was incredibly tender and the rich beef jus paired perfectly with the mushrooms. It was hearty, comforting, and one of the best short rib dishes I've had. The cocktails were just as memorable. I ordered the Asfar So Good, while my partner had the Ashita Affair. Both were beautifully presented with a silky foam on top and were as delicious as they looked. The Asfar So Good was light, refreshing, and well-balanced with subtle floral and citrus notes, while the Ashita Affair had a smooth, creamy texture with pistachio and rose flavors that made it feel almost like a dessert cocktail without being overly sweet. This is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality of the ingredients, presentation, atmosphere, and service justify the cost. Every plate felt thoughtfully prepared, and the overall experience was memorable from start to finish. If you're looking for elevated Middle Eastern cuisine, creative cocktails, and one of the most beautiful dining rooms in Baltimore, Ammoora is absolutely worth the splurge.

We had an earlier dinner reservation so it wasn't as crowded at the beginning but was quite busy at the end. We tried a couple different cocktails and I loved both of mine - Ashta Affair and Asfar So Good. The Ashta Affair was sweet and creamy and the Asfar So Good was deliciously refreshing. My friend really enjoyed his Old Fashioned Date and had a fun experience trying the El Massaya Arak. For appetizers, we ordered Muhamara and Mousakhan Chicken Rolls. The Muhamara came with pita and was such a great dip. The chicken rolls were equally as good with their own sumac labneh dip we enjoyed. For entrees, we shared the Braised Lamb Shank and Makloubeh. The portions were large and the meat was tender. Neither were over seasoned and were absolutely delicious. We couldn't finish it all and saved the rest for leftovers - yum! We wanted to try their dessert and ending up getting the Ashta Bil Asal and Ruz Bil Karaz. The Ashta Bil Asal had cotton candy which made it a fun dessert to try and the Ruz Bil Karaz had a great caramelization coating. Neither were overly sweet which we preferred. It was such a great ending to our meal. I absolutely loved my experience here. Our server, Miriam, was friendly and attentive. We even chatted with the GM, Iman, who also made sure we were provided a great first experience. I cannot recommend this place enough for anyone who's looking for a boujee but amazing time!

Luckily, we tracked down our waitress for a second round and it took 20 minutes. Worst part was that it was my sister's birthday. While our server Angel comp'ed a second glass of wine for her, it was 2 hours and 15 minutes before we were able to ask for the check and were ready to go so their normal birthday dessert was no longer an option. I can't speak on the customer service because I didn't talk to anyone. I ordered at the kiosk and they called my number and that was it. I paid $19.45 for my meal. I order a side of falafels (3) and the street bowl with beef flank, tzatziki, and mild red pepper sauce. The falafels were way too crispy. I feel like compared to other falafels I've tried these were on the hard side. Thankfully I had some tzatziki sauce to dip them in, if I didn't, they would have been a little hard to eat. The flavor was okay but the texture was not appealing. I really wanted to get beef shawarma but they were out so I opted for the beef flank. I wish I would have just gotten chicken instead. The bowl came with rice and a lettuce salad that was underneath the beef. I'm not sure if the lettuce had arugula in it as well, but the lettuce gave sort of a bitter taste which I did not care for at all. Did not taste good so I would add a lot of tzatziki sauce to it to cut down on the bitter taste. The beef was okay, nothing to rave about. I was just very underwhelmed with my food. Not sure if I would give it a try again. If so, I would definitely get something else or build my own bowl maybe. Try it for yourself and see how you like it.
