It has been a while since I last ate here and my wife and I were very grateful that they are still here and open. A small bistro in a little town of Montague, this eatery is well worth seeking out. Clean and well lit, it is nothing elaborate, but very pleasant. The papaya salad is very tasty, as are the egg rolls. We enjoyed a Father's Day special (bao flight) and found it to be quite delicious. For dessert, we ordered the mango sticky rice. The customer service was excellent, but unfortunately I can't say the same about the food. While on a business trip in Yreka, we decided to stop by for some Asian food. We ordered the crispy pork belly with sticky rice, drunken noodles, and the fish with tomato sauce served with jasmine rice. The first dish, the crispy pork belly with sticky rice, was a mixed experience. The sticky rice was soft and delicious, just like homemade. However, the pork belly didn't seem very fresh. It had an unpleasant smell, almost like the meat was starting to spoil. Next were the drunken noodles. The flat noodles were rubbery and tasted like they had been left out too long and had dried out. The zucchini was bitter, and the only part of the dish that tasted good was the carrot. The last dish was the fish with tomato sauce and jasmine rice. The jasmine rice had a slight brown tint instead of the bright white color you would expect from freshly cooked rice. It looked and smelled like it had been sitting in the rice cooker for far too long. On a positive note, the fish itself was the best part of the entire meal. It was flavorful and enjoyable. Overall, the outstanding customer service wasn't enough to make up for the disappointing food quality. Based on this experience, I probably won't be returning. read more

How unusual to find a Thai restaurant in a western hamlet in cowboy country. However, many refugees from Vietnam settled in the area several years ago. I ordered the chicken Pho. (The Thai version of chicken noodle soup.) The chicken was good, though a few pieces were stringy but was helped by dipping it in some sauces. There were lots of noodles and the broth was good but there were very few veggies--just some cilantro and bit of onion. The waitress forgot to give me a small dish for the sauces, but quickly brought one and she was attentive and cheerful. The furniture is basic, mostly cheap and my tea cup (mug) had some small chips on the rim. Obviously, they opened on a shoe-string budget. read more

We ordered ragoon (appetizer), Pad Thai with prawns (excellent), Chicken pineapple fried rice (yummy, huge portion), and a sweet and sour chicken (very tasty with a great crunch, my pop ordered it and i don't like chicken and I LOVED it). Love to eat at this place! Service is friendly, fast, and food is excellent! Only drawbacks are the lack of vegetables in dishes, and the prices are too high for us to go as often as I'd like. This place is AMAZING the food is always so good and the one time I had poor quality food they were quick to offer me a new plate.( it was shrimp, not much way to tell the texture is ganna be off when you send it out so I totally understand) and the staff are so friendly, I usually get the same plate and ask for some limes to go with it. Well I forgot to order my limes one day and they remembered and asked me if I wanted my limes with my dish. I was so excited that they remembered. We love this restaurant and cheer for its success. After patronizing several Thai restaurants I have this to say. The steak summer rolls tasted like old thin steak with thin peanut sauce. Nothing remarkable. Our four dishes came out at different times. Not so bad. The server was very attentive. Pho had no side dish of cilantro, bean sprouts, and lemon like you usually get with this dish. My pad Thai had no color. It was all beige with everything tasting the same. My husband hates going out to dinner. We had to bribe him to come here. He said he won't come back. He thought the food was very average. If this restaurant wants to be successful add a little more flavor and pizazz to your dishes. read more

This great jewel of a restaurant is such a happy surprise in our remote area! The food, much variety of Asian dishes, is out of this world scrumptious! While the food was out of this world..... This place is VERY expensive. Ordered the BonChef appetizer and shared Dan Dan Noodles with my hubby. We had two beers $7.50 a bottle! Total lunch with sharing a meal......$65.00. Again, ZERO complaints about the food. But the cost is out of line. For the most part the food is very good. I have eaten there at least 15 times, and each and every time I have had to ask for cutlery. The service is terrible. I am shocked and surprised that the chef once was a chef in New York City. I am very dubious of this fact given the poor service of this restaurant. read more

We have been wanting to try this place after hearing good things. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. We tried the egg roll appetizer, Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles and Pineapple Fried Rice. The egg rolls are supposed to have pork in them but we had trouble finding a few small pieces of ground pork. The Pad Thai had little flavor. It was boring. The Drunken Noodles was too greasy. So greasy, it dripped off each bite. The Pineapple Fried Rice had a few pieces of pineapple chunks and was supposed to have cashews but I only saw one pea size piece. We took most of the food home but we threw it away. None of the staff ever asked how the meal was? We were disappointed and will not be returning. read more

Chef Pom, MaiYaj and crew have done a delightful job in breathing delicious Asian flavor into our area. The crispy pork belly was just right (crisp outer layer, with a creamy melting inner layer). Putting the crispy belly into pho was an excellent idea with top notch execution. The papaya salad was refreshing and spicy (as ordered), the gyoza were balanced and delicious. To top it off we had the coconut boba which couldn't have a been a tastier cool beverage to accompany the meal. We'll done to MaiYaj Bistro and staff, you have gained loyal new customers. Now open Thu-Sun with a limited menu, with grand opening for 11/18/2021. Just excellent Asian food, mostly Thai but with some Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. Drink selection is limited (no beer yet, or Thai coffee), but the dishes I had were all great. Simply the absolute best in Sisikiyou County. I come here very often and not once have I ever been disappointed or disgusted, compared to other food businesses in the area. The service is amazing and extremely friendly. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful. I try to order something new every time I go in there just to see what else they have and although it may seem generic, nothing on the menu is either the same or taste dull. It may be a little pricey but once you see, smell and taste everything then you will know where that extra money is going to and its absolutely worth it! All filled with fresh ingredients, cooked moments after placing the order, they will ask how you're doing AND they do so when you don't have a mouth full of food which I have a deep respect for. If you want something new, unique and full of flavor.. come to MaiYaj. Warning however... you will want to return and thats a fact! P.S. The chef specials do rotate on a monthly basis it seems, so more of a reason to visit here at least once a month to treat yourself. read more

Egg rolls were great, appetizer chicken with sweet chili sauce and a crunchy batter was really good. Also pork belly had a crispy outside with sticky rice and a special sauce was outstanding. And we ordered a Thai rice that was very good. We will definitely be back service was friendly read more
