Talk about a hole in the wall. If it wasn't for the bbq and smoker equipment you could easily miss this place. We actually found it by accident. GPS was programmed for a different place but we ended up here. At first glance there's not much to look inside the restaurant. At the time, the place was empty. We were the only customers. It would be a three star rating just by looking. You have to question, is this a restaurant and is it open? We were greeted by the owner/chef/server/greeter! A one man operation. Very friendly, personable and knowledgeable chef. A cool dude. I give this place a five star because of the food and the one man staff. The BBQ was spot on delicious. The Pork Spareribs (1 rack) with 2 rice plate (for two people) was juicy and full of flavorful smoke and Thai influences. The Three Smoked Meat rice plate was also delicious. The smoking and Bbq are done using wood. No charcoal or gas. You can really taste the natural wood smoke flavor in every bite. I'm glad we found Asian American BBQ by accident, I'm also glade it was not his usual rush hour time when we arrived! This place is a classic cliche phrase "don't judge a book by its cover." The brisket was really flavorful, had a good texture; it melts right in your mouth! The rice was plain white, and complimented the meal well. However, the plate did feel like it was missing something, another side (veggies?) perhaps. I will add that for the plate I paid $27 which seemed a bit high for just brisket & rice! BBQ with an Asian twist. This was everything and more that I thought it would be. If you're in the area definitely a must try. The owner was super helpful and welcoming. Took a few minutes to get our food, but as we were told this isn't fast food, but it's good quality food. He was right, definitely worth the wait. Menu is very straight forward. This is a perfect example of a "whole in a wall". Don't blink when you're driving to this restaurant because it's so easy to miss! The only signage is the one on the front window. There's a small open sign lit on the side but it's easy to miss that too. What gives it away is the number of barbecue grills in front and the smoke coming out of it. If you're looking for a fancy restaurant, this won't be for you. If you're looking for great barbecue, then you're in for a treat! The owner, Thomas is the only one working there and doing everything! We didn't have to wait because we came at an odd time after lunch and not the rush hour. He is very friendly and accommodating. He definitely knows what he's doing! The restaurant needs a little bit of organizing. He has a lit signage inside the restaurant so I suggested for him to move it outside to attract more customers. He said the food will do all the talking and marketing for the restaurant. I agree 100 percent! He has a lot of locals ordering from him. He goes by word of mouth. We ordered 2 combo plates with rice and pork dumplings. Cranky man said dumplings take a long time. That's ok, we're not in a hurry. Order was placed and paid and we were told to go outside. Too crowded inside for our 4 people. Ok! Got ourselves drinks from our cooler and got an outside table. Went to pick up our food and a guy at the inside table said to make sure to try the hot sauce so we asked for extra. Owner said no! You already got some.... Ok Started eating our meal and owner asked if everything was ok. Yup! He asked if we wanted more hot sauce..... um, ya!!! He came out with a smile, gave us tons of hot sauce and extra napkins. I've done the drive from the Bay Area, California to Oregon many times and usually disappointed with the food along the way especially in Redding but I am so glad I decided to stop here! On one of the signs it says something about please understand they are not a fast food restaurant which is true. From the time I got there, waited to order and walked out with my food was 30 minutes but definitely worth the wait. Got half rack pork ribs and these are the best ribs I've had in recent memory! They tasted exactly how I was hoping they would. The meat was cooked perfectly and plenty of flavor. I appreciate how they place the rice in a separate foil so it doesn't get soggy from the rib sauce. Even the rice was just perfect. The smell of the food makes your mouth water, then you taste it and it is a flavor explosion. My wife and I ordered the same thing. A combo plate of chicken, pork, and beef with rice. Nice portion size and all the meat was covered in the same sweet/spicy sauce. If you don't like spicy, order your sauce on the side. We had enough left over for lunch tomorrow! Weed, what an interesting town for Lao food. We saw that there were 3 different lao restaurants in a town of about 3k and that really blew my mind. The meat is cooked out front and you can see the smoke and smell the meat from the bbq. It is run by a man and his wife (I think) who are both Lao and very friendly... I started my convo in Lao but quickly had to switch to English because my Lao is very broken and we all had a good laugh. We ordered the number 3 (pork) and number 7 (beef). The menu is quite big but it really is just the one pork and beef option available. 4/5 - Pork with side of rice and sauce 4/5 - beef with side of rice and sauce Both were great smoky flavor a maybe a tad dry but the sauce added a little kick.
