We ordered and enjoyed the No. 5 (Grand Dadd's - roast beef, egg, provolone, Russian dressing, mild peppers, onion, and black olives), the No. 18 (Where's Bo - pastrami, egg, cheddar cheese, mayo, onion and green pepper), the No. 23 (Italian Style - pastrami, egg, swiss, mustard and onion) with an order of curly fries. Everything was delicious and freshly prepared. The only negatives, the place is small and each sandwich is handmade by the single chef behind the counter so service is a bit slow. Great sandwiches and wonderful service. I called to see if they could send a large order of sandwiches to my son and his roommates on very short notice for his birthday. Not only did the Maisie and Blue team get the sandwiches out the door in under two hours he surprised my son with a hilarious birthday message. Got the Reuben from Long Island- both regular and one with light meat. I was expecting a lighter rye bread whereas this was more like pumpernickel. Tasted alright, but not fantastic. Can't put my finger on why. Meat portion was good for what you'd expect at a "traditional" deli. Staff was less than blah about having customers. I ordered to go from Maize N Blue Deli and was very satisfied. I got the #12 Kristie's Favorite Lunch, the #18 Where's Bo, and a side of curly fries. Everything was very tasty and generous portions. The large pickle that comes with it is also a nice bonus. The curly fries taste just like Arby's. I would strongly recommend getting the side of honey mustard for an extra $1.50, it is the best honey mustard I've ever had and a perfect compliment to their sandwiches. I'm giving 4/5 stars simply because of the price. I think $1.50 is a lot for a side of honey mustard and so is $11 for a sandwich. If the price concerns you I would suggest splitting a sandwich with someone, it's plenty of food! I would also suggest getting their sandwiches with everything that comes on them, they put certain flavors together on purpose and it all flows together perfectly. read more

The good was GREAT. I assumed the chicken club would have a chicken cutlet (fried or grilled)- but it was actually deli sliced chicken. Didn't matter- the sandwich was stuffed, and delicious. Very rude owner. I'm a driver for food delivery services (doordash, postmates, grubhub and postmates) I went there today to place an order for a customer. Now this place is not a partner restaurant, so we the driver are just like any customer. We place the order, pay for the order and wait for the order. Well, I did all that and the owner saw my delivery bag so he knew I was part of that food delivery service. He comes over says he will cook the food but never again, tell your bosses to get my menu off their system or I will sue. By now he is partly yelling (many customers sitting and eating can hear all of this). I explain, I don't work for them. I'm an independant contractor who just delivers for them. Again, he goes off on a rant. Very rude, unprofessional and jerkish. He ended up losing two customers (myself and the person who placed this order) I was sure to let that customer know not to use a food delivery service to order food from here or else it would end being cancelled. She was very appreciative that I gave her the heads up and baffled at the owner's take on this. read more

A well rounded place for a well rounded guy. Came here to finally try this great destination. They have about 90 different sandwiches, for which i went with the club. The sandwich is huge (about the size and same price of bread basket, and way bigger and cheaper than zingerman) and is very very good ( this and the club lulu from jimmy john are the 2 best for turkey club in the area). I also had a couple bites of my lady's triple play Reuben, and it was good (although I do think that bread basket and zingerman has the better corned beef sandwiches). For my side, i went the curly fries, which were very good ( your GFS bag of curly fries, but hey still good). What really made this a five star place was the cookies, which are some excellent cookies. I mean I'm talking about the best cookies you will find (their M&M and sugar cookie are on point and A1), and they are huge. This deli is perfect. Great food with magnificent value, Every bit as good as the other Ann Arbor deli but 1/2 the price and a much better pickle. The service is what puts it at the top of the list though. You feel at home and a true sense of genuine care for each person these folks serve. I have since moved away from Ann Arbor, but every time my stomach growls, I imagine sinking my teeth into layers of thinly sliced pastrami with fried egg and cream cheese. Anyone who compares this place to Zingermans is cracked... Zingermans is overpriced but Maize is far from inexpensive. I have noticed that there quality has gone a bit downhill and portions a bit smaller. This place is still a great restaurant for takeout but no comparison to a legend. read more

Maize N Blue will always be my "go-to". I get there are other delis in town but nothing compares the sandwiches here. Used to eat here several times a week for 4 yrs while in school and never once had a bad experience. Amazingly consistent. I come back every time I've visited AA over the 15 yrs since graduating and it's as good as I remember every time. I always leave with an extra for the hotel room and stop on the way out of town to take one with me to the airport. The owners are the same as back in the day and still friendly and always pretend to remember us. Love seeing my name up on the wall from back in the day as well. Can't ever get enough MNB. read more

We stopped in here after several hours of driving coming back from a road trip. The only reason it isn't getting 5 stars is that they didn't have a bathroom. In fact, there wasn't a restroom on the entire freaking block! As for food, I got the Turkey Club Sandwich. The turkey was thinly sliced and had fantastic flavor. Wife had the Scooby Doo and I tried a bite, then another, then another. It was extremely good. The bologna was so much better than any I have had. I would recomend it. Went into the maize N blue deli looking for a late night sandwich and was glad to see a wide array of both classic sandwiches but also more modern/ creative sandwiches. I decided to go with a twist on a personal favorite and grabbed a triple play Reuben (#44) at the fair price of $12 because what I got was a more than a large load of corned beef and pastrami with OK sauerkraut and delicious cheese and dressing. The bread was a good sourdough rye but it didn't seem to have the toughness that a good sandwich bread has got to have as the bread got soggy on both sides by the end of my meal. Overall it wasn't the best Reuben I have had but it is definitely on the better side. I would come here again as it its conveniently located and slightly more wallet friendly than the other delis in Ann Arbor. Can't wait to try some of their different custom sandwiches! read more

Was heading to Dimo's Deli, mostly for the donuts but thought we would try their sandwiches as well. They were closed for summer vacation which was annoying but at the same time it allowed us the opportunity to discover Maize and Blue. Had some very good pastrami sandwiches, the owner recommended the challah bread which he explained was a Jewish bread and was his best. Gave it a shot and the bread was really nice. Great sandwich, good portions, reasonable price and the owner is very nice and personable. Some good fries as well. Happy to give my money to places like this. Much better tasting and more reasonably priced than the more famous and overrated deli in town. read more

Okay, so there are a few things i will search the world for - one of them is the perfect Reuben. I have to admit, I learned of Maize n Blue Deli from Man v. Food (which is an awesome show) and it definitely lives up to its billing. The Maize's Reuben isn't the most traditional, but it packs a huge punch. The corned beef is solid (both in flavor and in amount... almost a pound), the kraut is crispy, the jarlsberg/swiss cheese keeps the sandwich together and the 1000 island has some great flavor - but what sets this place aside is the rye sourdough. It is hand cut and is thick enough to keep the sandwich firm. One of my biggest let downs with the Reuben is when the sandwich goes soggy before I get through with it - but that is not a worry here. On the side, the slaw was also very good and service was down to earth in spite of its celebrity status. If there was one thing that surprised me, it was the size of the place. I think i counted six tables --- but hey, you can always take your solid sandwich to go. Here's to Ann Arbor's best Reuben! read more

The sandwiches are really great, relatively inexpensive, and they have some interesting creations. My friend got a "Where's Bo" which was pastrami with a fried-egg on top. He was floored. I wanted to try Maize and Blue Deli after seeing Adam Richman come on Man v. Food, and of course because Michael Phelps purportedly loves it. They have cool sports paraphernalia on the walls of their small dining space, including photos and signatures of many well-known athletes. My friends got the popular Triple Play. Disappointingly, I feel like their sandwiches contained less meat than the multiple inches' worth amount depicted on TV, but I suppose it is likely that the deli gave the TV host special treatment in the form of ginormous amounts of meat. The sandwiches definitely came with an average portion of filling, just not the crazy amount that supposedly separates Maize and Blue from competitors. I personally am not an avid animal eater, so opted for a salad--don't underestimate the salads! They are basically everything you get in a sandwich, but with more veggies. I got the Julienne Salad (nixed the cheese) which includes turkey and corned beef. The pita bread they serve with salads is fresh-tasting, soft, and probably an especially good accompaniment with the Greek Salad. While the food is satisfying, the prices of $9-10 per sandwich/salad are more than I would normally pay for typical deli fare. The staff is warm and welcoming, though, so I can see how it could become a family or friend tradition to go to a football game and then walk to Maize and Blue for a hearty meal. read more
